Welcome to terengganu.. I'm from Terengganu. You must go to Pulau Redang, Pulau Perhentian or Tasik Kenyir at Terengganu. You also must try tradisional food like nasi dagang, keropok lekor, ketupat sotong or nasi kerabu.
Welcome Steve and Ivana to my home town . Unfortunately I’m living abroad otherwise I can take you to see some places of interest. Terengganu state especially Kuala Terengganu district is a coastal state and used to be mainly fishing state and sea trade to a small extent. Until the discovery of Petroleum, Terengganu used to be the poorest state in the country. Unlike our West Coast counterparts who had the wealth from mining and plantation earlier on during colonial times, infrastructure development lags by a few decade comparatively including tourism infrastructure. Because fishing used to be the main profession of our ancestors you will find many of our dishes are fish based ( sorry Steve ) but they are very good if you like seafood. Also English is not as widely spoken here because it’s quite homogenous and everyone including the small Chinese community speaks Malay fluently in local dialect. British influence in this part were also very small comparatively during colonial times. Apart from the islands, few places that may interest you are.. Kuala Terengganu State Museum (Losong) Islamic Civilization Park+Cristal mosque (Losong) River Cruise (Same place) Batik Printing or Songket weaving factory (ask hotel) Kenyir Lake (1hr drive, read first) Batu Burok beach (late afternoon walk) Food to try, Nasi Dagang (fish) Nasi Minyak (beef/chicken) Pulut Panggang(fish/coconut) Keropok keping ( fish crackers best eaten with chuka/spicy sauce) Keropok lekor ( fish sausage eaten with chuka, looks ugly but nice ) Anything deep fried 😆 Best western - Oliva Cafe Roti Goyang dish - Adil Roti Nasi Dagang/Minyak - Atas Tol Most of these places only open for breakfast or dinner so check before you go and be early or they will sell out. Hope it helps.

@@JetLagWarriors yep conservative is the right word. Enjoy your stay! Im frm Sabah so dont knw much bout terrenganu myself. Thts y I always say before I travel the world I will travel malaysia 1st cus theres still so much to see in my own country haha
Because during Chinese and indian labor enter tanah melayu (malaysia) they're usually concentrate in industrial (Chinese) and estate (india). Kelantan and terengganu are left out cause they're used to be more traditional villages that's have local malay once upon a time. Malay only used to be allowed to do traditional stuff.
The east coast states of Terengganu and Kelantan are by far the most conservative in Malaysia. Both states are also governed by the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS). Just some information for u guys. Enjoy your trip there!
Being a Malaysian, what I love about Trengannu is the village outlining the sea shore and the islands. You should find out about Mat Dan. He passed through Trengganu on his way to Ausralia but end up being a residence here. I love Trengganu for the same reasons that he has.
You guys are right. Terengganu are more religious compare to other states. Fun fact: a new cinema just open up on the 3July2020. In KT. its call the LFS cinema. Its the first cinema in malaysia that practice seat separation. Means the male rows are on the left......the female sits at the right rows. Both male and female seating separated by a huge gap in between.enjoy your trip!
Fridays is their day off in the east coast. Sundays is work day. back then Indian migrants were brought in by the brits to work in the west coast states. They're proportionally less in the east coast states Kelantan, Terengganu & Pahang
When i try Satar for the first time in Terengganu, i really like it. Then i bought more satar and eat until I'm full. Whenever i go to Terengganu, i will definitely eat satar and bought back the packets of frozen satar home. I love the simplicity of Terengganu and the people's are very kind and helpful. Enjoy your trips in Terengganu. U also can visit Pulau Kapas, near the Terengganu and Kelantan.
Paya Bunga Square is not considered a mall. The beach side KTCC Mall is the real mall in Terengganu. And that massive construction site next to the drawbridge, that’s another mall called Mayang Mall (KL developer + Singaporean architectural firm). The big brands will be there.
You guys quite popular among the locals.. hahaha.. this is Malaysian. We are so much friendly that you will ever thought. Hahaha.. enjoy your stay.. selamat bercuti which mean happy holiday

Welcome to Terengganu! I've been following your video since your arrival here in Malaysia. Thank you. Terengganu is the best place here in West Malaysia to experience Islands relaxation, with white sandy beaches and crystal clear water, you may want to take boat ride to any of these islands such as Redang, Perhentian, Kapas and Tenggol. Not expert about how to go there but I've been to all of them long time ago and its so rewarding to swim along with colorful ocean fish. In term of food, Terengganu is well-known for her ocean produces. Not so surprise if most of the food here are made of fish, squid, prawns and everything that comes from the sea. I list down several home based food that has its origin in Terengganu, e.g. Nasi Dagang (mackerel curry and coconut milk based rice), keropok lekor & keping, Nekbat (watery sugar sweet spongy snack like a dough but absorbing), Jala Mas (Gold Net made of eggs and sugar, sweet). I can say Terengganu people are either eat fish as side menu for a dish or have a sweet tooth, so to say. So, enjoy Terengganu as much as you can.
Terengganu is all about the islands, the food and seafood. Love it! Go check out the islands. Nasi dagang is heavenly, the keropok lekor, satar, nasi minyak..also I could'nt get enough of. Can't wait to get back there early next month..
If you want more cheaper and delicous food..must go to village/rural area... Nasi dagang/minyak/lemak you can get for around RM2.. terengganu is the place which is full of udderrated stall, restaurant... So ask local for the recommendation ....
hey guys .. since you are already in KT, go to Redang, Perhentian or Kapas .. there are east coast islands belongs to Terengganu states. Now is the best time to go, in fact it's not due to Covid the island should be full of tourists. Good Luck!
I recommend you guys should head up to “Losong” or “Bukit Tok Beng” to watch “Live” making “Keropok Lekor”. You guys should try the fresh “Keropok Lekor” from those two places. Might change your view for “fish-based” food too. 🙂👍🏻
Terengganu keropok lekor is the musang king of fish crackers. Most people who dont like durian changed their mind once they tried musang king. If I am a gambler, I would bet a fortune he is going to like the authentic keropok lekor once he try it.
Nasi Dagang or Merchant Rice..That's mackerel curry dish with coconut milk based rice, really doubt it but nevertheless ..why not? My favorite food each time I travel back to my forefathers home state.
ahmad wafee Dagang here does not mean merchant, instead means traveller. It used to be rice meal packed ready for travellers and fisherman as in anak dagang.
Good vlog guys... We made our 3 months isolation in Terengganu, exactly in Pulau Kapas near Marang coast. Amazing water and reefs. KT is a great city with lot of character and very nice people... Just if you wanna have booze, it's more tricky than the KL, Ipoh, Penang or Langkawi... But in Chinatown you get also your beer ;)
U can go to KTCC Mall, Masjid Terapung (floating mosque) , Masjid Kristal(Crystal Mosque), Batu Buruk(beach), Mydin Mall, Terenganu Muzium, Seberang Takir beach.
Pasar Payang is so modern and beautiful now. It used to be so old, dimmy and dodgy, you'll feel like you'll be mugged at every corner you turn, even in broad daylight lol! I used to study in Terengganu from 2001 until 2004 and for me, hands down, it was the most relaxing and laid-back lifestyle I've ever had in my life (37 y.o.). 9 points for Steve for finishing his sata. 10 if he can finish it off with 10 pieces of keropok lekors.
Nasi minyak is kind of like rice pilaf. It's flavorful & it usually come with ayam masak merah (chicken in sambal) & fresh pickles. The colourful Nasi minyak is also known as nasi hujan panas. It's one of the staple foods for breakfast in the east coast of Malaysia (pahang, Terengganu & Kelantan). While in other parts of Malaysia, you won't see this dish except in a wedding/party banquet. People here eat lots of nasi for breakfast maybe due to the type of work done here in the past requiring lots of energy like fishermen, farmers etc,.. but now everyone is enjoying them because it is so delicious 😋
if u goes pantai timur Pahang...Terengganu...Kelantan.....u must try keropok gentel....nasi kerabu....nasi dagang...and the popular one is budu....super duper....but if u go Pahang one thing u must try patin tempoyak....when u go Johore try it mee bandong Muar...Mee Rachon Batu Pahat...tempe goreng with sambal kicap ... try to go beautiful island at there...
Terengganu is like fisherman village. They eat lots of fish and their kids is intelligence 🤣🤣🤣 keropok lekor is like my childhood snack, sata is awesome and they got good seafood tempura and selling a good traditional kuih. They're popular with songket silk that make a fancy outfit to wear, it's beautiful.
You can also try terengganu's traditional kuih called bengkang telur at pasir panjang.we usually eat them for breakfast.you can eat them with sweet gravy (we called it kuah manis) or coconut based gravy (kuah lemak).
Most fish products in Terengganu don't have a strong fishy smell, because it uses super fresh fish. There is a lot of fishing jetties at every town. Kt itself have several fishermen jetties.
Yes! This is what I suspected, but I wasn't sure. It seems like the more fresh the fish, the less 'fish taste' it has. Actually, I think I am starting to enjoy eating fish! First time in my life lol
@@JetLagWarriors if you are super curious you can try haggling with fishermen at the jetties. They sell super cheap, then you can bring the fish to a restaurant and ask them to cook it for you. I think the only place in Malaysia with better fish stocks than Terengganu would be in Sabah. East coast people don't eat frozen fish. They only eat fresh fish. As there is a lot of it. Sometimes the fish at the restaurants still have the rainbow shine on their scales. Which means it was just caught.
Good observation both of you... i like your videos, very interesting and u guyss really challenge yourself to blend n try malaysians food.. good job, 20 years ago , i still remember my english teacher would politely reject any asian food 😊😊😊
Another amazing excellent quality travelogue showcasing main town area of Terengganu.. architecture ,culture, lifestyle, food, products ,etc..I have no idea what is satar, however I usually avoid buying premade drinks at stalls as I afraid of colouring and added high sugar content in drinks..no offence to local stalls selling
Satar is the sweet version of otak otak. Too sweet for me. Still prefer Johor Otak-Otak. Penang otak-otak is more like Thai & Cambodia version- Amok fish
Welcome to Terengganu guys! Im from Terengganu but currently working in Selangor. Can't wait to go back to my vilage in Kuala Terengganu 😁😁😁😁 Enjoy your stay in Terengganu ✌️ and please try Nasi Dagang and Celup Tepung ( basically fried seafood ) while you're there.
Terengganu has a variety of food for breakfast compare to KL. We have many kind of rice just for breakfast. Nasi lemak with small tuna sambal, nasi minyak (nasi minyak is usually served during malay wedding, but in terengganu you can find it as everyday breakfast meal), nasi kuning (yellow rice served with fish curry), nasi dagang (official terengganu dish) served with fish curry, laksam (some kind of thick noodles made from rice flour) served with coconut milk with grounded fish gravy, and a lot more. Terengganu is sinonim with fish. We eat more fish than meat. Ikan aya or tongkol is a kind of tuna, small tuna, is famous in terengganu dish like nasi dagang, nasi kuning and nasi lemak, and also for our another signature dish, ikan singgang.
Steve and Ivana don't forget asking the local people in Terengganu the best dishes nasi kerapu in Terengganu restoran .... I think the local are very glad to assist you Steve and Ivana
My suggestions are..take a walk along Pantai Batu Buruk and if possible spend a a day at Tasik Kenyir..it is possible to walk around Kuala Terengganu.. Just a few metres away from Pasar Payang is Old Istana (Palace) of the Sultan of Terengganu.. Do visit the Tourist Centre to get more info.. Do enjoy your stay there.. Happy travelling

hey guys .. since you are already in KT, go to Redang, Perhentian or Kapas .. there are east coast islands belongs to Terengganu states. Now is the best time to go, in fact it's not due to Covid the island should be full of tourists. Good Luck!
Stay tuned -- some vlogs from the islands incoming!!
Welcome to Terengganu bro, go visit Pantai Penarik, Setiu
both of you rock !!
What a beautiful video from above the new bridge. I wish I have a drone too........👍👍👍
must eat here sotong celup tepung, nasi dagang and keropok lekor
I recommend you guys should head up to “Losong” or “Bukit Tok Beng” to watch “Live” making “Keropok Lekor”. You guys should try the fresh “Keropok Lekor” from those two places. Might change your view for “fish-based” food too. 🙂👍🏻
Terengganu keropok lekor is the musang king of fish crackers. Most people who dont like durian changed their mind once they tried musang king. If I am a gambler, I would bet a fortune he is going to like the authentic keropok lekor once he try it.
Yeah correct. Cmon Steve, go for the keropok losong!
Recent experience, the best keropok lekor now is in Keropok Lekor Bayu
@@bubbabudan keropok losong is keropok lekor itself
...On the road again... must feel good and another beautiful city!!!
In Terengganu, you definitely need to try Nasi Dagang
we will! Stay tuned for our vlog!
Nasi Dagang or Merchant Rice..That's mackerel curry dish with coconut milk based rice, really doubt it but nevertheless ..why not? My favorite food each time I travel back to my forefathers home state.
ahmad wafee sounds amaaaazing!!! hungry...
Yes. I'm Kelantanese but Terengganu's nasi dagang is much more delicious..😋
ahmad wafee Dagang here does not mean merchant, instead means traveller.
I hope you find someone like abang ajib there to guide you to different places because terengganu sure have a lot of hidden gems.
Wowww i'm just go back from there today..
Nice video..you're good in capturing beauty of place you step in..kudos!
At last, first time a see foreigners get some footage of the Iconic Drawbridge. 👍👍
Wowser...I'm dying to visit Terengganu and the draw bridge and food!
Dont forget tommorrow (6july) at 9.30am.. drawbridge will be operate.. i read the news on facebook.. go watch it👍🏻👍🏻
if u goes pantai timur Pahang...Terengganu...Kelantan.....u must try keropok gentel....nasi kerabu....nasi dagang...and the popular one is budu....super duper....but if u go Pahang one thing u must try patin tempoyak....when u go Johore try it mee bandong Muar...Mee Rachon Batu Pahat...tempe goreng with sambal kicap ... try to go beautiful island at there...
Enjoy your hospitality in terengganu, someone need helping both of u for tour, a lot of beautiful place in terengganu exploring it
I can be their tour guide if they want. hehe
Terengganu is like fisherman village. They eat lots of fish and their kids is intelligence 🤣🤣🤣 keropok lekor is like my childhood snack, sata is awesome and they got good seafood tempura and selling a good traditional kuih. They're popular with songket silk that make a fancy outfit to wear, it's beautiful.
nice video!! i hope you guys get the chance went to KTCC Mall hehe
You can also try terengganu's traditional kuih called bengkang telur at pasir panjang.we usually eat them for breakfast.you can eat them with sweet gravy (we called it kuah manis) or coconut based gravy (kuah lemak).
Please try keropok lekor.. and must try laksam.. nasi dagang.
I love how you describe KL city and Terengganu
Nasi Minyak - Rice mixed with margarine / butter. While Nasi Lemak - Rice mixed with coconut milk
Terengganu’s weekends are on Fridays and Saturdays 😀 Enjoy my hometown, Steve and Ivana!
Good observation both of you... i like your videos, very interesting and u guyss really challenge yourself to blend n try malaysians food.. good job, 20 years ago , i still remember my english teacher would politely reject any asian food 😊😊😊
Pasar Payang looks different and new. Miss the old rustic market though.
We LOVE asam boi! So refreshing! Drawbridge looks incred. Hope you guys are well! xx
The best nasi minyak, nasi dagang and nasi lemak in the world are from Terengganu....they should sell these more in KLumpur!
Welcome to my home town.. please have a great day
Steve and Ivana don't forget asking the local people in Terengganu the best dishes nasi kerapu in Terengganu restoran ....
Happy travelling
we were looking at info to go to tasik kenyir, and it seems hard to get to
@@JetLagWarriors its quite a distance away..please do ask the Tourism of Terengganu Information Centre for more details.. I am sorry I can't help you and Ivana for I am in Perak
@@JetLagWarriors do Google Jabatan Pelanconan Terengganu or look for their page on FB
I love your description of how KL is like a supermodel, no expression, concrete and still haha. That's so on point :D
