I have been using Obsidian for almost 2 years and this has to be one of the best explanations of what it can do, and I have watched a lot of videos trying to master some of the features. Brilliant.
I've been using Obsidian for over a year (genuinely upgrading my professional work while doing so), and this is by far the best practical look at Obsidian. I'd love to see a short highlights video about your recommendations for Wiki-style note-taking, and some creative options for different types of users' specific needs.
I had a stroke and use Obsidian to gather my thoughts while l am learning OSINT. You explained this in a way where I actually learned something new about Obsidian. Thank you!!!
I have used Obsidian for three months and i use tags to group things together, I also use folders to group objects which belong, like locations, people, etc. I also use graph function a lot because it is easy to see how objects relate to each other and how strong the connection is. Because of this it is very useful as a INT tool where you can see which people or places are important. The dots size increase for each node connected to the object. I have never used the canvas because i didn't understand how to use it, but you always learn new things and that was useful.
I am starting to use Obsidian and comparing it with other tools I did not see it as very powerful, however with your explanation I see that I had fallen short and now I will apply its benefits in my notes. Thank you very much for having created this video with applicable content.
Great tool, discovered it a few months ago. Using it for all kinds of stuff. Syncing works like a charm, and now making a nice canvas for internal penetration too plus external and osint
Thank you so much for this video. I've been trying to use Obsidian for forever but always get too intimidated and stop. This video helped me get started
Whilst I haven’t used Obsidian, I’ll definitely check it out. For me I think when it comes to choosing a tool, the place I land is that it depends. Sometimes I’m in spreadsheet, text document or stats package other times it’s a scribble on a page that gets my thoughts together on how I want to take the client on a exploration that answers their questions. At the end of the day if your output brings value then how you got there doesn’t matter, but great tools make the journey smoother. I really appreciate your approach Gary and genuine character. Thanks for making content on UA-cam, I have certainly learnt a lot. 😊
Holy shit bro, you just read my mind I already use it. But today I was just searching for new plugins to use and there you are uploading new video about it. Mind reader.
one thing to note is that obsidian is closed source, so when you talk at 15:00 being stuck with it, that also means you'll be stuck if they start making the app less good by limiting free options. You are correct that markdown files can be used by other programs though, so you wouldn't necessarily lose everything if you wanted to switch. I want to like obsidian and the canvas feature looks really nice, but i have also been looking for open source alternatives. Logseq has been pretty appealing on that front but not a 1:1 replacement in all areas. Lose some features, gain others.
I've installed obsidian on my laptop for a while and i got stuck at some point by using it. Thank you very much for making this explanation favorable to me. I know how to use it now, it's my pleasure @Gary. Can you talk about the vault in future?
I don't know whether you see this or not, I just wanna say..I'm gonna master this stuff. Let's see where this takes me. Hope you uploaded some go to Course right from the very basics.
Hi Gary. Thanks for the demonstration of Obsidian. Obsidian might be what I need, but I want to ask you: Is there a software that will take the notes from multiple PDF documents to create notes in on a canvas in which the notes can be moved around, grouped, and linked together?
@theGaryRuddell It's that the default one? I thought you had another font lol Thanks anyways because your video inspired me to customize that section, so I made a CSS snippet to change the font and make it bold.
I could not replicate copy/paste embed a URL on the canvas. There's no paste when tapping for menu on ipad, there's add webpage, but it doesn't load the content at all, let alone live, like you said

That means a lot. Thanks so much Dean! I bet your Vault is impressive!!!
This is one of the fewest explanations to use obsidian without overwhelming things.
Absolutely a gem piece not a video.
You are so kind 😊

Man I Feel Like You're Literally an Angel I Was Wondering That I Should Learn Obsidian And Your Video Just Came Today 💓✨
Glad I could help!
I see the blacksad comicbook in the background and I approve of this man's exquisite taste.
Haha. It’s great isn’t it! Need to buy the rest of them!
@@theGaryRuddell Will be worth it!
Very cool, I’ve used Obsidian but only a little, I had no idea it could do all this. Gonna give it another shot thanks to you 👍
Enjoy!!’

Yeah you don’t even need to pay for sync if you use iCloud or Google Drive etc

Hey great question, and sadly I don’t know!
@@theGaryRuddell no problem, I'll keep looking. This might be something one of the current software companies can add.
Great Video, what Font are you using in your Obsidian Canvas Groups?
Probably Inter!
@theGaryRuddell It's that the default one? I thought you had another font lol Thanks anyways because your video inspired me to customize that section, so I made a CSS snippet to change the font and make it bold.
@@thepartydude I think it’s the default! Dunno! Need to check
what happened to your latest video? im glad i saw it im using it thanks.

@theGaryRuddell the one on dangerzone I can't see it

I’m not using iPad
👀💪
I wish I could like Obsidian, but you can’t rearrange files to a custom order easily and it makes it almost unusable for me.
Yeah the only thing to do there is manually giving everything a number 001 Filename, 002 Filename - which is a NIGHTMARE to manage
it hits different when you use WIKKY-pedia xD
