Amazing video! Love the colour and design of this device to this day.
Cheers bud. Appreciate the comment!
pro tip: you can watch movies on Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Jackson Louie Yea, been watching on flixzone} for since december myself :D
@Jackson Louie Yup, I have been using Flixzone} for months myself :)
@Jackson Louie Definitely, have been watching on flixzone} for months myself :)
I miss that design of Sony 😔
Your not alone... and why I still own and use my z5 everyday...
@@agent_447 I used to have a z5 before but now I'm using a poco f1
The xz1 compact used it, but the xz2 is a wtf
@@cefirodewinter9086 the xz2 compact design is better than the regular xz2. Cause the position of the fingerprint is better
@@thegadgetarchives7429... Thats some coincidence... I am planning to get a pocophone..

I'm using one, the video quality is amazing, it has 2.7years and wait it was 🔌 almost all the time... The battry 🔥 but still working fine no problems
@@imadkali and what about the temperatures? It's really high at the point of being boring?

I really like the form factor of a sony compact phone. I think that im speaking for a big amount of people when i say we need more compact phones with flagship specs.
It is I who Nuts to That XZ2 COMPACT is probably the best for it's size. S10 E is still quite a large phone but even still its a compromised S10
Yes yes yes. We need smaller than 5" phone screens.
Sony no longer selling compact phones and tablets in Southafrica
It don't sells well is the problem, there just not enough people who have need of them
I'll be honest, being someone who owns an Xperia XZ1 Compact that phone is MILES ahead of the Z5 Compact due to the MUCH better Snapdragon 835. #lessoverheating
fatproduce but z5 is a lot cheaper
My z5c still holds 2days, full use. also pubg and other high end titles work fine. It has same gfx card as Samsung s8.
The Xperia XZ1 Compact doesn't have radio nor a headphone jack. Fuck that.
@@Jucelegario xz1c has headphone jack, and who tf uses fm radio lol are you serious
@@asljdljdhakhdalshdkjasd people who go to camping trips with bad cell reception? People who want to be surprised by new music, radio talk shows, etc? What a dumbass you are. The newer phones don't have a headphone jack and you will actually pay a premium for NOT HAVING FEATURES. You are so stupid.
Happy 2nd birthday to my Sony Xperia z5 phone! 😁 Still using it now to watch this videoo
Mine lasted 5 years
Same
mine the third already yeah
almost 3 yo LOL
Mine is 3rd 🎂
Oh hell yeah! I used the Z3 Compact for years! Looking forward to this video and maybe I'll get one used 😍
hello friend, I'm really interested in buying a Z3 Compact or Z5 Compact. What about compact z3? Is it really good? Is fragile the back and overheats how they talk? Thank You !
Watching this video using my xperia z5... Still using this phone since its launch. No problems (except for small RAM) but still useable in 2019
Still using, never had issues with Ram. Maybe just battery which is fine. I'll buy Z5 Premium in the future or Xz1 Premium
After using and loving this phone for over 5 years, I dropped it for the last time a few months ago. The screen completely shattered. Why now, I'm not sure, because it had been dropped many times before and survived. I ordered a new screen online and repaired the phone myself. Although the parts I ordered were not of the same quality as the original and only lasted about a month before cracking for no reason. I can still use the phone with a mouse but that's not very practical and so I ordered a Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact as a replacement. I love these little brick phones from Sony.
How's your battery life? I wanna buy one!
@@SonyEnthusiast It'll get you through the day.
I was wondering if you had any issues charging it? A family member got me one a couple of years ago but I had stopped using it due to it having really finicky issues with charging after running out of battery completely
Happy with my x compact, using for 1 year and 2 months now.
Using mine since the day it came out.
@@kirbyswarp wow that is nice to hear that.
How's the camera compared to XZ? I used Sony Z2 and about to get a smaller phone, my budget is between Z5C and X compact btw
@@muhammadajiyunus7487 emang x compact yg ente mau itu global apa ex japan? Kalo ex japan tu murah gan di tokped dkk..
@@adityajonathanmamahit2889 ex japan bro.. budget mentok soalnya hehe cuma suka ragu sama kameranya aja
For a Sony phone user who used z5 and using xz1 now, you really want to avoid snapdragon 810, xz1 compact is a much better choice for daily drive
I'm wanting to buy this phone just to use it as a music player. it supports Hi-Res music, and the phone size makes it perfect.
5g upgradable??
Buy a HTC 10 then
Its this phone's popularity made someone make a review about a 2015 phone in 2019...
Proud owner of z5c since 2016
Thank you for the review, Ryan! Intelligent and informative smartphone-related videos such as this are difficult to come by. Thumbs up!!
I’ve been wanting to buy this phone when it was introduced back then. Your video is awesome! It’s quite affordable now in 2021.

I got this phone for my mum and it's serving her well. She loves it and says it's the best phone she used for over the last 2 years.
Super vidéo, After using my Huawei P10 since two years, i just ordered for about 80€ a New z5 compact in yellow, i was loving this phone for two years, 4k caméra, super wide angle camera, and nice waterproof, unless talking of the perfect size phone, stéréo speakers... I will really going to love it again.
it is actually frosted glass on the back.
Ummmm actually no that's on the Sony z5
Flash I0 it is frosted, I have a spare back glass of my Z5C due to replacement. The plastic back issue was from the Z1C to Z3C
Should I buy this one with 1 year and 4 months of use? Sorry for my english. Please help
When the Z5 compact became outdated I really had a bad time finding a decent replacement.
I finally found the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite last year, the specs ticked all my boxes, and I ordered on its release date. Had it ever since, the first time I was truly happy with my phone since.
outdated? I just ordered a new z5 AND its 5.15.22 lol
The S10e gives me the same feel as the compact when I see it in stores, so for me it will go on in spirit!
My Z5 compact still up and running hot, best daily driver ever 👍
I loved my Z5 compact it lasted 3 years! Now I'm rockin a XZ2 compact, this thing kicks ass. It's hard to compare other phones bc I've only had 3 smart phones in the last 6 years. The only draw back of the XZ2 is the missing headphone jack. I know gotta get with the times.
I had the Z5 compact for three years - at the start the battery would last 2 days of average use, but at the end it would barely last 7 hours on standby. The camera seemed better on mine but became a bit temperamental with age. I found the 4K video could only record for about five minutes before the phone overheated. Loved it for its compact size and the unique shape, would definitely say it was a good phone back in 2015. I have a OnePlus 6T now and I definitely miss the Sony Z5C's ability to fit in my pockets.
I really like this phone. I've had mine for 3 years and it's done everything I've asked of it. It has some key features that I demand in a smartphone, such as forward facing stereo speakers, a headphone jack, easy one-handed usage (corner to corner size of no more than 5 inches), fingerprint reader on the side on the power button, and no camera bump. I also like the very sharp corners. I will likely just keep using this phone until it stops working, which it may never, as I've dropped it many times over the past 3 years, I've never used a case, and it has yet to break.
you talk a lot about your personal preference but you get to the point unlike majority of other channels. great video
Xz1 compact is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOS jimny NO
How's the plastic back holding on for you?
Wow thank you man i didn't remember this phone, i do jave an almost 3 years old huawei p10 that is all broken an lagging and I desired to look for a compact - good phone, thank you man

I'm still rocking my Z5 Compact :)
razorg still worthy buddy in 2K19?
@@wahyudiadisyahputra8429 Not buying worthy of course. But it still does everything I ask from a smartphone while being an actual "compact" phone. Quite happy. :)
You should review the Xperia Z2 "handwarmer" next, great price to phone ratio but has similar problems to the Z5 Compact
M5 gets hot as well
I had Z2 great battery, but well some heating for video recording
When I had cold hands I would just start recording in 4k and the phone would get warm...
Would love to see a video on a Android One Nokia phone
The quality of your vids is always very professional
I own an xperia Z1 and still works smoothly with no issues
same
Oh, that blocky design is love. Really.
On the other hand, only thing wrong about Sony smartphones is pricing. It's the only thing stopping me all these years from owning one.
And that can be seen even with the latest models they released. Were I live, the L3, with an mtk chip, is being sold for a fair amount over $200 (not an official price). Imagine all the Xiaomi phones you can buy, with an sd chip.
P.S.: I'll be very happy with the reviews of older phones.
Ragna B I got my XZP in 2017 for under £600. It was rivaling the One Plus 5's and in my opinion as a better phone too. Officially from SONY, yeah their phones are way too much but you can often find retailers or carriers selling them for relatively cheap
@@kapilbusawah7169 Considering where Sony stands, in the smartphone market, almost $800 is a lot of money. This isn't the gaming market, where ps literally prints money for them.
It's not that Sony smartphones don't deserve the retail price their asking for (for me, any retail price over $600 is crazy, for any company, for any smartphone, but that's a subject for an entirely different conversation), it's the position Sony has in the mobile market, that doesn't allow for that pricing.
Yeah, their devices hardware-wise and software-wise are competing their "rich" rivals, but if you're the last competitor (I think their market share is depected on the "Others"?, I'm not so sure about that), you can't price your devices like your competitors in the first places, because you're not in the first places. Lower your prices, for the love of God don't ever use mtk chips and when you move up and find yourself in the upper places, then start asking for the "premium money".
Well, these are my personal thoughts..
Got one last year a steal off Facebook sales for my daughter's first phone, great size for small hands and I was really impressed with the performance, very snappy and great camera.
I used to be a very satisfied Z5 Compact owner for 2 years, when suddenly Android system buttons on the bottom on the screen (back, Home etc.) suddenly terminated to operate. In the beginning I thought it's only temporary (they're not physical buttons, right?), but it turned out, that this is a serious and widely recognized problem, requiring sending phone to service , with no guarantee of succesfull repair. So I retired the Z5 and bought a brand-new XZ2
If I wasn't going to get my Papaya Orange OnePlus 7 Pro McLaren Edition, I'd be getting this!
Oh, you again! Nice too see you. Thanks to your review I got the phone I wanted.
For some while in 2017 I had the Sony Xperia X compact that had an even better fingerprint scanner, usb -c. A bit plasticky design, but I still liked it. Great vid and the fact that you acknowledge these underdogs.
Nice review! Love this Yellow color is so beautiful!
Review the XZ1 you should review😭 it has headphone jack , snapdragon 835 , and I have it 😁
The camera is best of sony , the cameras are the same on xz2 and xz3 same specs
I buy it brand new 3 weeks ago for 189 euros + 10 Euros for shipping in 24 h it arrives at my home
The battery its really good for the battery capacity it has
Better camera than Samsung Galaxy s8 and oneplus 5t
I own xperia xz1 compact too. It is complete beast of a phone in compact size.
@@amolphansekar8256 this phone is so good (mine is the normal size )
I had one and my battery life was great... U have to know how to use it properly.....
I would get 2 full days on a single charge normal use no gaming.. And then there was the ultra stamina mode which made it rediculous
The world needs a compact phone nowadays. In a sea of huge and bulky phones, a small and compact phone is what some people need. I miss phones that can be held on one hand. 😟
Great job, Ryan. BTW, what phone are you recomending at the end of the video(8.19) as not a native speaker can't get it. Thanks a lot.
You don't need to press the button for the fingerprint scanner to unlock the phone, you can just tap it and it'll open the phone to the menu
nach, it does not work like that in this phone, trust me
@@lkn900l how come?

I refuse to sell mine. It's so awesome
I miss this stylish phone and it really fits in your pocket or everywhere else in your bag! And really everything about this phone include the camera are good enough for all the basic daily use!
Idk but I like the block design and color I would probably use this
Don't buy the Z5C.
Xz1 c is much better in terms of future proofing and build quality. However if you seek better option go for zx2c.
XZ2 compact no headphones jack
Well I can live with that compromise.
The brightness can be switched by taking out the auto light balance and check if your Stamina options don't influence the brightness as well
have been using a Z1 Compact for 5 years now, i have changed the battery 2 times and still gets the job done. I won't upgrade until it dies for sure but I think Im getting a XZ1 Compact
Was looking at getting one. But I got an SE today for 25 pounds!

All of your b roll are awesomee!!!
Thinking of getting this as just a music player, because of the 24 bit sound card, expandability, and decent battery life as such. Strictly for my decent wired headphones, it should be a go-er, and 'worst-case-scenario', as a secondary phone.
Nice video review, but if it were to be used as a secondary phone with mostly use on whatsapp or spotify would it still recommended? And about the battery life how long it will preserve in standy mode? Thanks in advance

Me in 2019: Has the 4.7 in. iPhone 7
Me with 1st gen iphone se in 2020, still can out perform some midrangers or budget phone
After 4.5 years of use, I replaced the battery and... I found why the photos are a little blurry. The problem was that in the *inner* side of the backplate some dirty have made the glass in front of the camera a bit “blear”. After cleaning it for 20 minutes with alchool the photos became perfectly on focus. Observing your smartphone it seems very used, so I think that It can have the same problem.
responding to this on my z5, which I got about 6 mo back to replace a galaxy s8. I actually prefer it to the Samsung for its wider angle camera and burn-in free LCD. it's been a fine user experience personally
Maybe you should try the XZ2 Compact. Should be a great Z5 Compact successor
@@RiloxHK Well I wouldn't mind getting a Sony device anytime soon but I've found of the XZ2c sales that are as low as US350. Still based on what you have mentioned it might be an interesting take from you.
@@joelconolly5574 I'm currently using a xz2 compact I got off eBay for $320
I've had no issues with the phone! Worked exactly like my LG G7 was
@@Y_5250 Good for you, probably a lighter user than I am, or it may have something to do with climate (summer in Hong Kong could contribute to some but not all of the overheating and throttling). If it's $320 brand new it's not quite bad I guess, since we don't have a ton of choices for compact flagships.
@@RiloxHK isn't your xz2 compact plagued with a stripped line display issue like mine? I've took it to warranty and Sony said no problems were found, what a shame. Wasted 550€
@@brunomendes8031 My model was fine without the problem you mentioned, although I only spent a couple of months with it before switching to another phone.
did you buy it used? because mine has better camera quality. Also, the dim screen is due to firmware bug and can be fixed by rebooting the phone on maximum brightness set beforehand
using the xz1 compact as my daily driver, i bought a used z5 compact as my secondary phone. for me the battery works quiet fine: the standby time is even better than what I get from the newer model, so i use it as my alarm clock and audio player in my bedroom. using it mostly at home the screen and cam are no issues and it even does a decent job as a mobile hotspot. I like it a lot and will keep it until it dies of old age ;)
I write this comment from my z5 compact right now..Still fantastic smartphone.. I already have it two years and still is fantastic..
Nice phone,, any overheating issues?
Woo just ordered my third Z5 premium dual!
No worries, its still a great phone except on new games, and not good on lowlight but daytime pics are great, i have uploaded vids on my channel using this phone.
Watching on my Z5 premium... I'm happy with it, never disappointed me
You must have low standards then
Had one of these, that colour too. Got rid of it because of serious overheating when taking videos. Bought a XZ1C, same size but much much better.
XZ1C is the best phone ever made imo
i had Z5 as brand new one at 2018 .. and now it look amazing - very smooth at gaming and perfect camera for me .......the battery is very bad.
But i am in love it.
Which color do you use? Is it any heating problem? Mine is yellow and kinda looks like a toys 🤣
@@adityajonathanmamahit2889 i got the Graphite Black, i think the yellow and green are very unique and beautiful colours 😊 . It just get too hot after 10 min of playing pubg 😄 and most of the games and while recording at 4K.
I'm whaching with sony z5 compact now
Idk why but my favorite Sony phone was the Z1 xD
Totally agree with u bro , my z1 was a charm
Z1 compact was a fucking beast, bought it already used and it's still hold for 3 more years for me till I spilled coffee on it.
I miss it so much.
I had SXZ5c for nearly 2 years, having purchased it second hand. This was my favourite phone but had to change due to performance issues. Now I have Huawei P20 lite which has better specs for low price. Due to latest UA-cam, Netflix and Spotify updates, the phones was often overheating, lagging and slow in general due to the updates to new apps. Otherwise, the phone was literally perfect.
Do you have 'adaptive brightness' switch 'on' or 'off'. If it is 'on' the display will be much dimmer even on max brightness to fit the ambiance.
I have this yellow one. It does run better than previous phones i had for 4 years. It’s stil quite fast and the battery is stil great actually... Never noticed something wasnt right with the brightness. And i guess the country i live in is cold enough! I dont know what it would cost nowadays, i guess it depends on that if you should still buy it. Cause im expecting to replace it in two years because it cant keep up anymore by then.
Old is gold👌👌👌
Great video Ryan! It's that one you wanted donations for as your own daily phone right? Like £120-150 I think it was. Also that phone reminds me of a mix between my mom's old Xperia E5 mixed with a Microsoft Nokia phone.
Still using Z5 compact her owned it since launch. 👍
I have this smartphone and it Still works with only one issue. But it is a very quick and capable smartphone. The camera is fantastic.
How's your battery life?
@@SonyEnthusiast Almost like it was new😊😊. No problems with battery. Only with the echo during phone calls.
@@ΑρχείοΑνδρέαςΑνδρέου ok good to know! I'll buy it to add to my Sony collection!! 👍 Thanks brother for your response!
it's frosted glass not metal. Great review though :) I'd recommend keeping your z5c if you already have it but dont buy it. And also lineage os 14.1 works great and solves the smoothness problems
Aah,, custom ROM, sadly i can't customize the ROM since its ex-japan device. Also i cannot turn off the camera shutter sound
Aditya Jonathan Mamahit as far as I know, you can still root the japan models (I didn't even know there were no roms for japan though) and if you can, then you can install greenify and get rid of the stutters too. If you need any help you can reply to my comment and I'll try to answer as fast as possible
Watching this video on my Xperia Z5 in 2019.
What color do you use btw??
Quality video Ryan!
im still surprised they managed to cram a 810 in there without the phone not dropping dead left and right
Had a z5c for 3 and a half years till I upgraded to the xz3 last year, great little phone well worth the money now,,,
Something good in this phone I thought is the video recorder, that super steady mode are really useable for me
Do you have any battery drains?
I have the common Z5 Compact problem of the screen going blank when a phone call is made/received, and control of the phone cannot be regained until the other person 'hangs up'. It is not due to a screen protector (Ive removed it). No -one seems to be able to solve this glitch, and Sony seem to be just trying to ignore it exists. Any solutions out there? Certainly does not inspire me to buy Sony again ...
Could you review the pixel 1 in 2019?
I have one. You can still use it. Still good performance wise, camera is decent, battery life has taken a hit but can last a day if you are not heavy user.
It's awesome....I just got one very soon
Quite amazing actually but gaming on it will drains the baterry very fast
I have an old one. It's pretty usable actually. Only the battery life isn't that great.
XZ1c for me
i buy the sony Z3+ for 100 usd on ebay new from china. change the screen resolution With Minimal ADB To 1536x864 (only lower resolution that works with no app crashing issues). runs great. its got a 810 in it. if you set up all ur setting right u can run games ok. once it heats up its laggy. if you crazy like me put it in a air tight bag, stick it in a bowl of cold water and play with a controller. games run butter smooth.
Been using Z3 Compact for about 4 years.. Headphone jack broke, backpanel is glued with superglue because it kept coming off..
Guess i need a new phone. I want something similarly compact, with a good camera. What do you recommend?
I recently switched from the Z5 dual to the XZ dual
So if i just use it for daily work is it worthy? Looking xz1 compact still high for me and looking z5 compact could save me some money, I'm not kinda guy who like to play game on mobile
I own a z5 for abowt 3 and a half year. Still rocking.
I’m intrigued. I’m looking for a replacement for my iPhoneSE (never liked it, but it’s the smallest phone I can find right now). ZXcompact just doesn’t exist here in Thailand. Maybe I can find one of these.
When phone getting bigger and heavy
Then the best way is back to the compact phone
As a former owner of a Z5, I can say that my Z1 and XZ1 brought me more joy. Sony should have chosen another processor for this.
4 years using this phone. Im kinda attached to it now. Trying to find a replacement but only S10e is available and is too expensive.. M2 Lite has no NFC which I need daily. I'm considering A8(2018), pixel 3a, G8S thinq, P30, but only S10e does what Z5c did back in the days: it was the best compact. With a good price.
