My soal met left me.Now that makes a man bring out emotion beyond belief.I cried more in 1 year than in all my life combined. But now im a new man for the better.
when you said disbelief, I didn't have to fake it. I really cannot believe how well this works! I have been struggling for so long on my emotions, and thinking back to a memory doesn't always work, because sometimes the memory is distant. This works so much better!
This. Is. GENIUS. This is PURE GENIUS. I’ve always struggled with trying to attach my own emotions with my dialogue or getting them to come up, but just saying the word of the emotion I’m feeling works WONDERS for me. It truly gets me to feel something genuine. Thank you
Stranger Things Fandom edits Hey, Iv cryed many times while acting, and tbh, its really easy imo. Crying is a physical thing. So don't do the stupid imagine your dog dying or something like that. All you have to do is keep your eyes open. I hope that works for you. It works really well for me.
Omg yes plssss do a video on this!! @strangereggos you’re not alone hun, I also have problems w crying on cue. Exercises that tell me to keep my eyes open don’t work, and neither do emotional recall exercises. I need help!!!
Crying on cue has been such a mystery to me...I've seen all the videos. When I clicked this video I wasn't even looking for crying on cue, I was just wanting to learn about how to evoke emotions. So I tried your method of saying the word "joy" and notice that "tingle". Kept on repeating the word, 5 seconds in I was suddenly in tears.. wasn't even thinking abt crying but suddenly my associations with the word came to life. THIS METHOD WORKS
Hi Deborah, thank you so much for the kind words🙂.It is so great to hear from you. Boy, It has been awhile, but I remember you. Hope things are going well. You are always welcomed in class if needed. Best, Brad
I had naturally been doing this technique & feeling I was supposed to be doing another approach. Thanks so much for reinforcing what I instinctly knew. Now I have a name for it!
I took part of the money I had set aside to finish the last semester of a Meisner course and ordered Don Richardson's book, "Acting Without Agony." I made the right decision. lol
Pure pure pure genius. Ive never heard of him before but what a talent what a teacher. The other day I was with my acting coach and i told her that i wish we could manipulate our body to make the emotion and less about finding the emotion from our past events
This method is more enjoyable than reliving our own past trauma! Would you be interested in taking class where we put this technique in action? We offer zoom classes so it doesn't matter where you are located in the world! If interested, please email TheHellerApproach@gmail.com for more info!
How can I make my acting be more than just words? I mean, how do I add more depth and make it realistic without it going overboard and getting almost too much. I always try to live and be the character instead of pretending to be the character, but I find when I do that it often becomes fake and maybe too dramatic Ps thank you! Your videos have helped so much, I'm not from LA (I'm from the uk) and can't afford a lesson but your UA-cam videos are a real big help and I learn a lot from them so thank you :)

12:26 you're speaking about the neurology of the frontal cortex PFC and the amygdala that runs your sympathetic nervous system. In your technique you are teaching your amygdala running at 2 million data bits per second with the prefrontal cortex that runs at three data bits per second. Like you state repetition linked with emotion over time will build the techniques that are used with the technique you describe. Keep up the good work :-)
I'm so glad I came across this video, usually people always told me to connect my past emotions with how I wanted to feel in that moment and my biggest struggle was sometimes this didn't work this has helped me a lot! Thank you!
Wow, this is fantastic! Thank you so much sir! Oh, btw, I'm not sure if anyone has ever mentioned this to you but you have similar mannerisms and facial quirks that Robert Downey Jr. has when he speaks and displays emotion and expression facially. You truly do sir. I've been examining his acting methods, and I think that one of his most prominent acting characteristics is his non-verbal facial communication when he speaks or displays emotion.
This makes so much sense. I remember learning about something like this in highschool biology, little did I know I'd have to use it in acting 😂😂 you're amazing🔥🔥
Thank you for sharing these techniques. Alot of people wouldn't be so giving but it seems to Me you share out of empathy for people who have experienced trauma
8:38 thought creates emotion. Individual thoughts run at a thousand of a second. In one second of dialogue within your scene the body has the potential of having that many expressed emotions. Micro expressions happen at a thousandth of a second. The actor needs to control thought to control emotion to accurately Express the scene.
UA-cam recommended your video. I've always has a passion for all things film and theatre. I find myself watching the actor, their movements the way they are delivering the lines. Although I have been a member of amateur dramatic groups, I didn't take the learning further. At 51 I'm happy to say I'm off to uni next year to study drama. The biggest reason for this is because I know I'll regret it if I don't.

Any tips for doing a scene where the character has a gun to his head and is trying (and failing) to talk himself out of being killed then gets shot and lies lifelessly on the ground for about a minute until the scene ends? it's just for a school play lol but I still wanna give teh best performance I can
Hi @Hopefulwatermelon. In a scene where your character faces imminent danger with a gun to their head, the key is to convey the intense emotions and desperation of the moment authentically. Before the fatal moment, focus on your character's objective, which might be something like 'to not die', to survive' or 'to escape.' Embrace the emotions of TERROR or PANIC to immerse yourself fully in the scene. When picking emotion or objective, it should be something that you can relate to. When portraying the aftermath of being shot and lying lifelessly on the ground, maintain stillness to convey the gravity of the situation. Best of luck with your school play!
1:31 micro expressions vocal intonation and body language these have all been define by scientists such as Paul eckman and John gottman I would recommend you read thier books on emotions. You pretend that this is a science yet you speak in general statements this is all been defined by science and would recommend that you define your recommendations in such a frame of communication to your students. I hope this information helps you and your students :-)
This video has helped me so much as a new actor. Thank you! I hit like and then after watching another 10 minutes I wanted to hit like again haha. Brilliant video! I would love more videos about this. Thank you!
This is much healthier and makes your body much more professional than remembering losing loved ones, what if I want to feel happy do I do the same heavy breathing or is there another technic for that.
What get from this, is; we all have a reaction attached to emotion , understanding what the body does naturally, cause and effect , understanding yourself is relative. Maybe?
I think it's important to feel the emotion, but I think putting yourself into the idea of the character and the scene is enough to invoke emotion. When you can't separate yourself from the character in the situation then you can feel the emotion of the character and understanding that characters feeling the motivate of that emotion makes it more real. Some times feeling out of breath is going to make your emotions right at the surface because you are desperate for breath to either unleash the emotion to breath or to catch your breath to calm the emotion. That is my personal approach. While some times taking speeding your breath up ramps your emotions it is that big pause that truly builds it because it's the one second to really feel it and then deliver the lines in that emotion.
Such good stuff! An actual lesson and not just soemone making a 20 minute video saying something they could say in a minute. Nice to see videos that actually want to help and not just get clicks and get higher in the algorithms.
