Thanks for sharing this. I was looking at the Apologia's Physical Science but then thought General Science might be better to start with. We have done (not completed) Master Books Physical World and Berean Science in the Beginning. MB is great but was obviously specific to physics. Bereans is great too - we read through together but then rarely to the experiments. And makes me feel like we didn't get everything out of the lesson. I have a 13yr old and two younger as well, 11 and 10, so we were doing science together. Trying to decide if we could do General Science all together or if I should let the 13yo do on his own. And younger two do a diff version together...hmmm the research continues. Thanks again!

This is where I'm at right now, my 14 year old hasn't done any real science curriculum, this looks great but I also have a 11 year old and 2 science curriculums will be hard to pull off.. what did you end up doing?

Do you know if this general science course could be used at the highschool level? Im trying to determine if my daughter who is going into 9th grade could use this as one of her lab work required science courses. Are the labs enough to count for highschool transcript credit? Otherwise I was just going to go with their Physical science course instead.

Where I am grade 8 is part of high school so it would. However, high school requirements vary so much that it's probably best to reach out to Apologia directly.

My son has picked out this curriculum for himself next year (7th grade) because of the amount of reading. He loves to read and he complains that his current science doesn't have enough reading! Could this be done without doing the experiments? He dislikes hands on stuff and just wants to read everything.

Yes, for sure! My son didn't do very many of the experiments and you can find videos of many of them on youtube if you'd still like to watch but not do them yourself.

Great review! I’m considering apologia physical science for next year, but this video was useful in order to understand the layout, etc. of apologia. We are actually secular homeschoolers, though we are Christians, but I really like the look of apologia science books. Would you say that there is a large emphasis on Bible/scriptures? Or is it primarily science with a touch of Christianity thrown in? Thanks for any input you may have. I appreciated this video.

It is very heavily Christian. I haven't read this level but with the younger ones I have to edit some things out and we use Christain curriculum for other subjects.

My 12/13 year old is grade 7 this year and all he has ever wanted to learn is Biology. I am curious to know, if your son knew he wanted to pursue Biology even in college, would you still pursue this course or would you move on to a branch he actually enjoys? I am a bit torn here because I want him to be exposed to many sciences, he says he is and isn't interested in them, but at the same time I do want him to also enjoy learning what he has a passion in.

It has some biology in it but it also overviews other topics. If you think he is ready for the full biology course you could always try it.

@@OneMamaToAnother hmm.. didn't think of that... I'll look into their biology

Is there someplace my daughter can watch the experiments if she is unable to do them all? Also, is there an answer key for the student notebook and tests?

You can usually find most experiments on UA-cam, especially since these ones are fairly simple. Yes, there is an answer key.

Thanks for this review. I plan to use this in the fall with my upcoming 7th grader. This will be his first “independent” science so we are both a little nervous about it!! I hope it’s not too difficult for him!

I wish you'd stopped on the modules a bit to actually see the layout.

Go to 1:25 in the video and I take you through a module and 3:40 to see the corresponding module in the notebook. Each module is laid out in the same way.
