Currently using Berean Builders In the Beginning and also purchased the science kit for convenience. My boys are looking for the experiments and I like that everything is provided in the kit, labeled and ready to go. The way both Apologia and Berean Builders lays out their curriculum marrying history and science from a biblical worldview is informative, can't go wrong either way. Great flip through, thanks for sharing!
Your experiment kit is so much better than mine. We got ours from another website and I’m having to sort through it all! Definitely going your route the next time we use apologia!!! Thanks for the flip through.
This is the best lab kit I have ever seen! I wish all lab kits would come divided out by weeks. I have had multiple times where I could not find something in a lab kit or there were multiple items that looked alike, and we weren't sure which ones to use. I would LOVE it if they were done like this.
My daughter homeschools. She is a mother of 6. I love to watch your channel and your curriculum videos. I was sold on the five in a row and purchased those for her 3 and 4 year olds and will come in handy for he4 1 year old. Such good information and I really appreciate you sharing. I also feel good by supporting you a young Christian mama and her small business.
I started this with my seventh grader a couple weeks ago, but without the kit. So far so good! It’s a great first step towards learning to take notes, conduct experiments, and take tests, which we’ve NEVER done before (we’re CM homeschoolers too).
Thank you such a helpful flip through! I was trying to decide whether or not to use it next year with my incoming middle schooler and I think I will! I might sign him up for the apologia online class to see if that helps him transition from me always teaching it family style! But the reading looks very doable & understanding … I bet he will do fine understanding the reading and be very engaged … thank you again for doing this it was very helpful!
I hope your daughter is more observant than my son. We had one of those kits for one of the Wiles science books and several times he would say "it's a common household item so they didn't supply it" and since I was chasing toddlers I didn't double check. I would find the clear nail polish or toothpicks or Alka seltzer tab etc. Then at the end of the year he said "I have all this leftover stuff" like clear nail polish, toothpicks, Alka Selzter etc. So frustrating. I learned my lesson with him.
My kids are elementary age right now but I am already researching things like this for older grades. And honestly, I want to do some of their older courses for myself! This one and the health one, especially.
Would love to know how the school year went with this course 🙂 Also, are you guys planning on moving onto Apologia’s Physical Science for 8th grade? If so, I would love a flip through & explanation video like this. I have been searching and searching, and there isn’t much available on their Physical Science
My 8th grader is doing general science this year too, first time using Apologia. I bought the kit too, that’s the only way the experiments will actually get done! And I’m going to have him do the self paced online class. So much more money but hopefully will make it so so doable.
I had never heard of Rainbow Resource. I’ll have to check them out. We are using Apologia’s Physical Science for my oldest and their Elementary Chemistry & Physics for my younger boys. ☺️
Oh my goodness!!!! Seriously? Best online retailer ever!!!! They have mini YT series on their channel, free printable planning pages, amazing customer service, fast shipping and all the things!!!! I purchase through them over other online retailers anyway :) Small business is important. Christian book is another resource.
Would love to see a follow-up to this, just to see your thoughts and how your daughter is doing with this. Have you made a video for this, or do you by chance have one coming?
Great great review! I'm so glad you included the lab kit as I've been on the fence, and I think I'm definitely going to get it. Unit 12 looks yummy! (lol) I'm planning to use this with my soon-to-be 15-year-old daughter who has some learning disabilities. From what I can tell, if I move at her pace, I think it will work, even if it takes her 2 years. How have you liked it? Has it been pretty easy to follow? How has your daughter liked it?
I've heard so many good things about apologia. Do you find the younger levels dry at all? I feel like the younger programs I've invested in have ended up being dull and not especially captivating, which leads me to supplement heavily.
I personally have not enjoyed Young Explorers for before 3rd grade. I know they say you can start in Kindergarten with Astronomy but my kids really didn’t get into it too much until flying creatures and they were in about 2nd and 3rd grade at that point. So moving forward, I don’t plan to use it for my younger kids until 3rd grade ish. I just felt like it was too much info for a 5 year old and dry/boring for them. Now that they are older, they have enjoyed it a lot more and I think it’s just because they were able to understand it better.
@@robandnikkiburris5393 I agree. We TRIED astronomy but it was not my favorite at all and we got 2 lessons in and shelved it. That was probably 4 years ago when my oldest was in 3rd-4th grade
We’ve actually used it since my oldest was in Kindergarten, we joined a science co op that year and used the Botany book. Since we were in a co op setting it was really fun, but maybe not so much without the co op. The next year, we did the astronomy textbook and my kids had a blast with it, but again, we had a guest teacher (my dad) every week that made it so much fun, and we also live within an hour of Kennedy Space Center, so it was perfect for us. Swimming Creatures we did struggle through, and that’s when we stopped using the notebooks. After that, I think the only other one that took us two years to get through was Land Animals, because we started incorporating nature study for half of our science and we didn’t have as much time. We are cycling through all of it again with my younger ones and enjoying using just the textbooks and the projects, not the journals.
I will also add... I used Apologia personally as a homeschooler in Jr and High school and loved it. (And I don’t enjoy science 😂)it is an excellent upper level science and my kids will be using it as well!!! So even if you don’t use it for Elementary, definitely keep it in mind for the older grades!
Has anyone ever used the lab kit with multiple kids? I have two kids who are taking Apologia's General Science this year and wondering if I should buy 2 kits or if 1 will suffice.
Abby, will you do an update/review now that you've used this? I'm considering it for my 7th grader but would love to hear how it worked for you.
The kit was a lifesaver for us too! It took all the preparation out of science.
Excited for this. We use TGATB for everything but I love to see what other curriculums offer. ❤️
Its so amazing to see how far Rainbow resource center reaches! Its in the small town i grew up in 😊

Thank you for the positive feedback on our kits! We hope your family has a blessed school year! ❤
Are all your kits broken down by week or is it just the Apologia ones?

Appreciate you doing this! We're doing Apologia for 6th grade and I was curious how the middle grade levels would be

Hah thanks for the heads up 🤣
That kit is very cool. Big time saver for sure.

Hi Abby, Could you do a flip through of the etiquette program you picked up for you CM co-op? Thanks!!

I actually spoke about it on today’s Spring Homeschool Favorites video, as well as last week’s Curriculum Hits and Misses video 😊
@@RootedinRest awesome, thank you! I'm playing video catch up this afternoon lol

I got this science for my daughter this year also with the lab kit.

This video helped convince me because I was on the fence of buying the science kit for Apologia this year. Lol
That’s amazing!
Could a 6th grader use it as well?
How much time do you have set aside for her to complete all this science and her independent work? Does she actually do science 4x a week?
She does! Four days a week, and it seems like it takes her 30-45 mins a day at least.
My 7th grader is doing this with a co-op class. Now I don't have to look through it myself ;) Okay, I guess I still should...
