Why would everyone copy this line? It makes no sense in a song about an English convict in Australia. It served Tarantino's narrative purpose in the movie - but here? The line makes the song sound a little like that Les Humphries Singers' song which has nothing to do with Mexico.

@@ashleytaylor7621 No, it makes no sense. This was Tarantino's addition to the lyrics that otherwise makes no sense. There is no connection between the movie plot and Australia.
He has the orangest skin I think that I have ever seen, NEW VERSE ( NOTE: Use the theme to, "Botany Bay Song," ) LOL He smelled so bad it scared the cats into an awful scream, He often bragged he'd never serve or ever go to war, He said that he had bones of spurs a growing out his toes.
I'm sitting in Pinellas county Florida, at 7:20am waiting for hurricane Ian, and this is THE BEST hurricane song ever. Thank you for the beautiful song and performance ❤️ you've brought me a piece of something wonderful to keep my chin up during the storm. Your voice is hauntingly beautiful.
Not gonna lie, this might be my favorite cover of the song. You've got an evocative, beautifully haunting timbre to your voice; makes me think I'm listening to a well-preserved recording from the era. Suffice it to say, you've made me a fan. Keep up the good work!
you sound amazing! i'm a Tarantino fanatic as well! i watched the hateful eight 3 times in a row bc i just love all the dialogue as usual in his films. but, when i heard Daisy sing this song, i immediately became obsessed with it lol. i have been listening to any version on you tube i can get my hands on, but so far you're the bc i love the style in which Tarantino arranged it! rock on girl! lol
i had exact this verion of this song on my mp3 player for last year, and i just found out that it wasn't recorded in studio. I was sure that this record was made specially for OST album of the hateful eight.. Brilliant work, thank you very much.
As a 17 year old girl in high school trying to sing this song (and having no luck) you have a beautiful voice and I love your cover the most of the ones I've heard. Thank you for making this video. One day I hope I can sing like you. - chloe
Great job. I love the wink at the end too, that's a nice touch that compliments the aftermath of this scene. I hope to see many, many more covers of this on UA-cam. This song was actually my favourite part of the movie after Samuel L. Jackson's speech to Colonel Smithers.
It's such a coincidence that I read about Botany Bay and all this stuff in last month's issue of the National geographic Magazine! Awesome song and beautifully sung! great work
Dear Miss Lawson I can't tell you how much pleasure you give me with your brilliant and beautiful performance. When I watched that movie it was maybe half of the first verse of the song that immediately sent me on the research for that song. The movie version with all the obvious flaws in musical craftsmanship had still a magic and beauty I missed with nearly every other recording I came across. Some time ago I came to the conclusion that simplicity is what brings out the most of the essence that these folksongs carry in them. You had the perfect idea and went straight to the point. And what you bring in as your own approach that makes it unique and in every right lets it stand as a genuine work of art the world ows to your person. I can tell you from my heart your performance is the best interpretation of this beautiful song I know. Besides you there is only the one by A.L.Lloyd from the album "The Great Australian Legend" that is really satisfying to me. Congratulation and Thank you very much. You might want to listen to "Moreton Bay" by Marian Henderson. Anyway, You are an artist and don't need my advice. I wish you great success in your future endeavours and of the same happiness your music brings to your audience there shall be as much of it in your own life as you should ever need. With much respect H.J.Schmid
+zürihegel Wow I am blown away by your kind words! Thank you so much! People like you bring so much encouragement to artists! I felt the same way when I saw the movie...about 1/4 into the song I knew I wanted to do a cover of it. :) Thanks for listening!
+Kari Lawson Glad you feel encouraged, that was the intention of what I posted. I forgot to mention that You of course have a beautiful voice. And about the interpretation of Folksongs in general and the reason I like Yours is the following, the pictures they allow to come up by means of the words are definitely loaded with enough drama and dont't need most expressive effort to become alive and full of colour. Melodramatic emotional vocal dynamic plastered all over is contraproductive if not distracting from the story the song wants to tell us. I mean "high up on the gallow tree, the crow will pick your bones", that is absolutely strong enough. There are variations of the text, all working fine, one that I especially like is "Day and night the irons clang and we're like poor galley slaves" for I imagine beeing in that ship and always hearing those chains . It's not that one's good, the other's bad, just another example of the poetry in those ballads. No bounderies must be put for artistic freedom. But to bring out the magic that is in the song, it is paramount the listener can clearly understand each word, understand and quickly follow the tune and to be very precise in keeping the rythm to not disrupt the flow that lets you feel the message the whole thing carries. A good example for all that is in my opinion Sarah Blasko singing "Spanish ladys". O.k. that are just some thoughts of an amateur and of someone who always enjoyed Folksongs of this kind, among other music. You do your thing as long as you enjoy doing it it can never be wrong. Be passionate in following your dreams. Craftsmanship.
Hello Kari, this is really an amazing cover, you are very talented and made me very happy when I heard this beautiful performance. I'm a huge fan of Tarantino as well. Regards from Madrid, Spain. Sorry about bad english...
Wow, this is really great. I could tell I liked the song during the movie but couldn't understand all the words, when I finally could, of course, they were epic. I liked the older versions but hearing it in a woman's voice really makes it great, Daisy's and then young lady who posted this amazing cover. I also liked how this video added drumming to go where, in the film, was the pounding of a hammer and nail in the background. Anyway, super great cover! I listened about a dozen times so far and am nowhere near finished!
+FilmTreasures Thank you so much! I couldn't understand all the words in the movie either....but when I looked them up, I was amazed by the powerful lyrics! Perfect for Daisy! I'm so glad you are enjoying the cover! :D
+Kari Lawson My pleasure, and thank you. I am still enjoying it and will be for quite some time! In every Tarantino movie there is at least one song I never heard before but winds up becoming one of my favorites; in Inglourious it was Cat People, Kill Bill was The Wound that Heals, and for Hateful 8, it's this one; since yours is the best version of it I've heard you're going to be on my permanent playlist. You have a great voice and I look forward to hearing more in the future. Best Wishes!

+Kari Lawson Yes, absolutely I am a HUGE Tarantino fanatic. I have been ever since Reservoir Dogs. He's been a huge influence on my own writing even though I write novels and not screenplays, not so much for his violence and dialogue but how he isn't afraid to let things slowly build up so that when 'it' finally does happen, it hits you harder and means more. Anyway, if I might make a request, I think your voice would do great justice to that Cat Stevens song that goes, 'oh, baby baby, it's a wild world'.
FilmTreasures I am Tarantino fanatic as well...stuck in the middle by stealers wheel from reservoir dogs became my go to song after watching michael madsen dance in that movie! Love IT...and Kari Lawson your voice is unique and entrancing great cover lady!!
