All kidding aside, back when I used to do things like rebuild my carbs, or a brake job, etc, I used to draw pictures as I went along. Nowadays we have cameras in our pockets. Easy-peasy. Always enjoy your curiosity

Good call. I was having a similar issue with mine. It sat for several years ... No real trees on my property. That being said, an 16" branch came down off of my mother-in-law's maple tree. I fixed my chainsaw with a new spark plug. Didn't think to check the fuel filter but the air filter was barely dirty. Thanks for the video.

Spark plugs work Steve! I would suggest using the pre-mixed fuel if you don’t already. Thx! Eric.

in case you havent been told yet carb clean or even brake clean will do just as much as a untrasonic cleaner and costs 5ish dollars a can, would save you a lot of time and money just having to adjust the high flow screw instead of replacing and resetting a carb, great video

It could be the carburetor or it just needs the carb adjusted. I opted to replace the carb, so I would know it was new and not gunked up.

I'm a huge fan of Tru-Fuel (a brand of engineered fuel up here in CanaDUH). It burns much cleaner and shelf life is years not months. Never any issues parking the chain saw and whipper snipper over the winter, always fire up in the spring.
Love your vids, been subbed for years but usually I'm just lurking and smashing the like button.

Always try adjusting the carburetor before you order and install a new or rebuilt carburetor. He ended up having to adjust the rebuilt carb he installed anyway to get it running correctly. Imagine saving the $25 and all the time spend ordering, waiting for, and then installing that carburetor that was not needed in the first place. The quick adjustment attempts on the carburetor is time well spent before you give up on the carb that is already installed and already shows to be operational but in need of adjustment. Don't get me wrong! I don't blame the guy for not taking that route. It would have been a very short video indeed and his ultimate goal was to not only get the chainsaw running again but the create a useful video for the rest of us. And that was worth the time spent going over more possible options that you might need to do.

Cellulose fast thinners is very good at removing residue from carburettor Jett's. Just find the jets and soak them in thinners and maybe get single strand of stiff brush hair in the jet. Sometimes just submerge very small carbs in thinners overnight. Also blast out with an airosol of carb cleaner.

For minor carb issues, just spraying a few short bursts of carb cleaner into the intake may be sufficient...and rather painless. Just avoid spraying too much at once or the engine may over rev.

I didn't come to see "replace carb"... I just did that 10 months ago. I used the hell out of the Polan Pro 50cc with a 20" bar in April and just came to it for a 3-4 month maintenance start/run and it's doing exactly what this one did in the beginning of the video.
P.S. I don't buy that expensive 50-1 pre-mix fuel. Besides I mix mine @ 32-1 [4oz/gal] for longer engine life and the plug never fouls at that rate.

I know what your dog said. And both gave clear body language before the one spoke. In case you don't speak dog. It said get the camera out of my face. Lol 🙄
Mine is a ms170, bought it at an auction. Didn't realize it was a California piece of___. There is no mixture screw, just an idle adjustment. And the saw couldn't have been ran much as I had already checked the screen which looked new along with the spark plug and fuel filter. Doubt a new carburetor would make a difference. Mixture changes with altitude due to altitude density. And there is no computer on this little thing. LOL. Even the most basic of carburetors on my airplane are nothing more than a gravity thread throttle body,no float. Just a slide, a idle adjustment, and mixture screw, which is controlled from inside the cockpit depending on what altitude I fly at. It's sad that Stihl pandered the California and forgot about the rest of the country. They should have thought about pandering to the country and forgot about California.

Normally im not about replacement carbs if its not Genuine, but man Ive had this Poulan carb beating me UP. Out of nowhere it suddenly has issues, cleaned the carb screen FULL of saw dust and redid the fuel lines for $4, clean arrestor and im sick of taking it apart. I cant imagine the adjusters need tuning since the issue arose OVERNIGHT but thats the only thing I havnt done yet.
As soo as the high throttle plate begins to open it chokes out, so I guess Ill order the adjuster tool along with a new carb package, and probably will then find that Ill have a brand new carb for the next time it begins acting up lol.

did you try screwing the high speed needle all the way in, and then returning it to the original setting on the original carb, before buying the new carb? There are some pretty cheap ultrasonic cleaners around thee days... but I don't have one yet...

How do you know the carb is bad? I’m having a problem where it is difficult to start my chainsaw. Once I do, it stalls in idle. I had the exact problem you show at the beginning occur, but it has not re-occurred. Bought a new spark plug, but it gets moist after I attempt to start the chainsaw - I noticed because I checked it again. Inside, there looks to be gas underneath the carb, around fuel lines. Not much, but noticeable. Can anyone help?

    • @joshweigel1131

Could be a leak in your fuel line. The introduced air could be leaning out the fuel to air ratio occuring in the carburetor.

A can of carburetor cleaner is really all you need you don't need an ultrasonic cleaner dude I don't have an ultrasonic cleaner and I service my own weed eater chainsaw any of my 2-stroke Motors carburetors myself most four strokes and when applicable older cars and I've never used an ultrasonic cleaner all I've ever had was a can of carburetor cleaner and the spray stick that usually comes with cans and I completely disassemble it pull the needle Jets and take the stick and spray a good couple sprays through each hole in the carburetor and let it dry and then just reassemble it but I never spray the diaphragms or gaskets because carburetor cleaner will destroy them but that stuff dries up pretty fast and then I just put the diaphragms back in whenever it's the carb parts are dry and I've only bought rebuild kits whenever the diaphragms getting worn out or the needle jet Springs news there rigidness good video though

I bought an Echo chainsaw last week. Worked great for two days. On the third day, saw would stall when I try to accelerate the engine. If I give it a little choke it will get over the dead zone and will produce power at full throttle.
I'm thinking something clogged the idle jets but it idles fine. It just has no low end torque after two days of use.
