Can I just say.. Your decision to "if the projector lives, it MUST be repaired" absolutely made this episode special for me.

@@MadMavn I mean, a good fix (I think), for unpowered grid tools sounds like is a “powered” tool box. . . I like the idea of a line of “tools” of various lengths that are all “connected” to a grid.

What about launch shafts for drones digged underground? Like missle shafts, but for drones. They can still be in that pose as on roof, but more protected and looks cooler when you use them.
Love it! and with the new tunneler I should be able to pull that off.
Since now you have a projector on the drones, a nice thing in pinch is to have a repair zone outside for them if you get caught in a fight, it's useful to fly home , get repaired and head back out.

Just watch out that the cleanup in the game doesn't delete your ship. It deletes unpowered grids.
The default is unpowered grids of 20 or less blocks iirc
These settings can easily be changed or turned off in the Alt+F10 admin menu

OG here, been here since episode 1, and I've got to say with all the series going on, friday has become the day I look forward to during the week. Hope sometime to try my own no suit survival playthrough!

By the way, you might like a thing I've done. I am sometimes a pilot IRL and for fancier airplanes there are external generators on little carts to power planes during various maintenance operations and start-up procedures. So in SE I have made two battery carts to recharge newly-made craft or ships that have run out. One of them is small and the other is fairly large. The big one (8 large-grid batteries) sports a small nuclear reactor and the small one (two small grid batteries) has to plug in to recharge. I made them wheeled because I made thrusters way more expensive to build and operate, but you could make yours fly. All you need is one or two batteries and some remote control capabilites. My little one doesn't even have an antenna, since I only use it in close proximity within my hangars.
I. Freaking. Love. your cart idea! That such a smart idea. I always feel like I have such a short window of time to plug in my ships so I love this idea of having a mobile battery that I can just keep charged until I build a new ship! Thank you for the suggestion!! Also I'm very glad you enjoy the series, makes me feel good!
You legit made AGPUs in space engineers? I've considered it before but never actually done it
Isy's Block Renaming Script might help with renaming the blocks in your drones.
Whips Block Renamer works well too.
Even better, there is a plugin that allows you to do it from the block properties. No need for programmable blocks.

I did use Whips Block Renamer for the drones. I would not have done all that without it. That being said @DarkArkAngel640 I am interested in this plugin of which you speak.

You should build a drone facility underground. There they are built automatically and get kind of dispensed like a Pez-dispenser when one is needed for combat.

I genuinely enjoy the minimalist look of your bases with the color choices you choose. I do look forward to what you can do with inspiration from others though.
Also, I am so friggin excited to see how that bucket excavator mod works, because it's right up the alley of my must haves!

Hey man, enjoying your series a lot. I think you should look into making a missile silo using Whips LAMP and WHAM scripts. Even smaller missiles with only a few small grid warheads are hugely devasting, and with WHAM and LAMP you can easily mark targets and dispatch guided missiles to them after being printed.

You need a drone docking bay so you don't have to depressurize and represurize the base every time

your miner could fit thru the airlock door u have to the plantation area of ur base u could make a drone thats the same width and height .. u could make it so they launch via airlock tubes on the base or something
meaning u dont have to vent the entire base u simply finish them place them into a airlock area and then launch them out sort of like battle star Galactica launch tubes XD

I love seeing the five lined as they are. The fact you took number three back and rebuilt it was cool, love to see it.
On the drones and deployment, I see two weaknesses, they either get their remote connection destroyed, and it takes a long time to deploy them due to everything having to be depressurised.
On the first issue, maybe some extra protection for the antenna/remote control is warranted? Or something to distract the enemy, such as decoys on the outer sides of the drones.
On the issue of deployment, maybe a new hangar designed for remote controlled vehicles, would be beneficial? It would not need pressure, for you'd never physically step foot in there. All it would strictly need to be is a pad with a strong ceiling and several connectors.
Love this no-suit series, I tried my hand at it a few times. so hats of to you man... Now! as for your base and the Reavers that keep on hitting you. Your base needs self-contained watch towers around the perimeter at a moderate distance out. This will give your base overall protection and stop it from being one massive target for them to hit, not to mention if one of those big boy ships turns up, you'll have much more firepower to throw at them as that single tower you have is not enough. Once you have that up and running, anything looking for a fight will get a very painful greeting.
You made a very good point how to avoid the reevers, reduce your antenna range to something the far out spawned reevers won't detect. Perhaps 1000m or less depending on how far you plan to fly drones out to. Additionally, you can also make antenna outposts to act as low lying relays or laser antenna.
This is probably the best space engineers play through I’ve ever seen
You saved drone 3, Danced with Clang, the most elegant I have witnessed, and nothing got blown up, an SE Miracle
I think it would be really cool and effective to build some sort of a small suicide drone with warheads, you'd have to store them really well tho :D
Hey Mavn, something I find helpfull with drones/ships in fights:
Having all backwards thrusters (on/off) on the hotbar and turning them off while fighting. That way I can keep my forward momentum without holding W all the time and it allowes to me to concentrate on lateral movement to escape incoming fire.
Hope that helps you too. Never the less: dog fights are hard!
That might be a double edged sword for me. I would likely forget that I turned them off and then BOOM I run right into the ship or something.
if you dont bulk up your ship, staying at the edge of a firefight is the better survival strategy...
So I'm not the only one who likes to do this, I find it handy in both combat and travel
@@MadMavn If you have a (extra) timer block (hot bar loaded) it can be set to turn backward thruster back on in xxx amount of time, if you are still "fighting" just active the timer again. I have had run a way ships before where by the time I caught up to it I died again doubling the distance. Eventually I had to admin stop or just claim it as a lost.
Great fun. You should build a balcony/garage outside with 5 connectors under it for the drones.
I love the orange! Maybe with a darker color for the body?
Also, it looks like one of those cool fan boats in Florida. I’ve always wanted to try one of those out!

I like the combat stripe idea for the drones, might be a good idea to set up a text panel somewhere just to have each colors meaning in writing for quick easy reference

1. You should build a tower with connectors where you will store Drones maybe make it on a piston so it can hide underground
2. Build more decoy towers around base and further away as base got damaged because decoy tower is too close

Orange is my favorite color. It does not bother me seeing orange lol. I’ve been enjoying this series. Can’t wait to see that new miner in use. It looks pretty sweet. Keep up the awesome work, love the content.
I think that orange works pretty well for a construction craft. It especially makes sense on those side bumpers.
The only thing that could possibly be improved is the distribution of colors on that craft. I'd probably switch the orange of the rails that run along side the cockpit with the white/silver of the cockpit. And paint more of the surface in that white. With that little white it looks a bit like that color is only there on accident.
I like industrial builds so the oranges, greys and grime work for me. Carry on!
I also have an idea, for your turrets, make them on pistons, and so you can lower them below blast doors, so you can pressurize and repair them, in case lets say your Construction ship dies. Love the videos, keep it up.
Daym, that is one of the most intence episodes ever.
I know this makes your to-do list longer, but the drones having their own separate hanger (maybe hidden underneath a hallway or on a sidewall) with individual connection points could make your launch process a lot smoother. You also wouldn't need to depressurize your whole base and each drone would be connected for power/ammo. Just a suggestion, love the series.
For your drones, I'd suggest covering the cameras with glass panels. The cameras are extremely sensitive, and in pretty much all cases it's what you lost first. If you give the camera better survivability, you'll increase the effectiveness of your drones drastically!
I gave Erock10r the same suggestion, and ever since he started doing that, it was a lot easier to avoid going blind with his drones.
Mavn, it may benefit you to incorporate more vents for faster depressurization. Or..... Maybe add blast doors to compartmentalize your base... Naval vessels have doors that close of in case of emergency to prevent the ship from sinking if damaged... Food for thought.
Also, your miner needs neon. And a slick name.... The front reminds me of the tumbler from Batman begins... Call it the Growler

Also you need a drone hanger, I'm thinking a domed tunnel with open ends. Kinda like a old school hanger. Maybe partially sink it so it doesn't harm visibility from your tower as bad
Also like 4 missiles that are just fuel, warhead, thruster, camera and gyro may work well as a last ditch defemce

i got giddy when you came to the same conclusion as i did with drone 3 lol.
I would build a rotary turret that can just spit out rounds at the revers. put a projector on it with a welder underneath it. There are mods that extend welder fields that would allow it be be repaired by the base if it gets hit.
for cost efficiency, I would suggest just making s-drones meaning no weapons very sleek like a pillar just a few thrusters 1 gyro and a heavy armor nose cap to run into stuff then build a batterie tower for it where you have 20 stored in it and you just pelt the enemy ship with it and not using normal batteries but warfare batteries for the drone since the small batterie is only a 1x1 in size
I've heard drill work great for making ramming drones. Maybe I'll give that a go!

Given the operating environment for the new digger, I'd argue that the high-visibility/safety orange would be the ideal color for it.
Something like a 2 way drone bay would be neat, a row of airlocked compartments that allow you to pull them into the pressurized cabin for maintenance and replace them from inside,. without having to worry about the main compartment depressurizing while still having the drones ready to go.
I like orange on utility ships. Very constructiony
Hiding the mauler away is for the best, though it still needs heavy repairs better to keep it hidden, its funny though because it reminds me of captain shack's old series with the Skyforge when they had to also hide it on an ice world in a cave

Watching you make a hangar for the Mauler in the hill made me think that a cave-like base would be pretty cool especially if it's at the base of a hill and goes underground. Just have the hangar door visible at the bottom of the hill...Just a thought.
He left a base like that on Helghen.

Your drons get destroyed even more quickly than erock's xD
Consider building a small shuttle for the command center. If the base gets hit hard and you can’t get to a med bay you can escape to the mauler.
Interior turrets are great for missile defense, just set them right and fill them up to the top.
you can make a solar drone and have it fly circles around your base - you will get advanced notice and have plenty of time to deploy drones, your roof connection was a good idea but think drone tower like limpets on the side of a ship. auto attack to weapons will also help.
Man that opening was more bleak than normal. I'm still impressed with your videography skills.
@31:10 I like use an '0A' new ship designation tag in my blueprints, instead of a number like '01' etc... I find it easier to search the newly built unit by the 0A tag and replace the 'A' in that unit number.
@37:40 I would recommend more anti-missile turrets around your base, perhaps a tower that is just for anti-missile defense.

Great show, your tools for the Switchblade placing a landing gear/ mag plate will also keep "clean up) from removing them from the world and you can put up your tools when your not using them lol.
Adding interior turrets to the high point on the base set to target missiles would be beneficial to the non tower side (blind spot). down side of interior is the manual loading of these, but if you stock then up it should be a awhile till they are empty. Then the tower and other weapons can focus more on the enemy ..not having to switch target to protect from missiles.
Cool new car... occasionally need for ice.... where are going to find a source of that? .... hmmm
With the reaver corpses piling up around base id build a sarlacc pit of grinders and some sort of sky crane to harvest the scrap from them

it might help with drone recovery and repair to have an alternate arm or an arm attachment on the welding setup, that way damage drones can be plopped down on a magplate and rotated for automatic full repairs while you go out to recover other drones
It looks like these drones are everything but effective. The amount of time you spend by renaming containers in them is greater than the time spent by using them because they get shot down so easily.

If you automated these defense drones you'd have way more fire power and you'd haven't to fly them so it'd let you go to build and fly a proper fighter to beat the reavers down.
I don't remember what script exactly but I know there is some that can automate your defense with drones and as far as I remember they are pretty efficient.
I think that the new Grid AI update will allow for something like that and I am greatly looking forward to it.
@@MadMavn Yes. It's probably a thing that would push me again on Space Engineers (but I'm also very afraid of that because each time I do, I spend like a year or so in the game).
maybe put a remote on your new borer ship and maybe on the one on the side of the base (the repair one) just in case you cant reach the pilot seat like when your up in the control room and cant reach the repair ship would be a good idea i think also love your work so far i went and binge watched this series from the start just to know what is happening keep up the great work so far can keep making great content
So... since you're building ships that can pass through the gate blocks, might be worth having a secondary hangar area with individually pressurized launch bays, so when you want to launch and land with one of your ships or drones, you don't have to depressurize the main hangar bay. That also means your main hangar isn't getting taken up by the ships you've built.
Also might be worth making one standardized, adjusted blueprint for the drones, that has only 0 signage on it, so you can just add the correct number beside it. And name the blocks inside 0x so you can do the same there. (Though I see other comments about renamers that you've used.)
You need three more self repairing towers and they need to be twice as tall. The drones are fun. It the stopping power is in that tower design.
Just make it a static grid and make sure static grids is unchecked in trash removal. Then it can still clean things you actually want cleaned.
I think it would be useful to have one of the new custom turrets to control it when your drones get destroyed. It could have heavier weapons and armor
I'd say give the body a higher contrast to the orange. So a darker orange or a darker grey/black would probably look awesome
It would be cool if you could use the drones as rotor turrets while you don't need them that can separate from the base when you do

Please, for the bunker, turn it into an armory that also includes the Combat Computer AI, and also, what ever happened to the seeker, I know you got the drones now, but you could always bring the seeker back as your personal, Fighter/Contingency ship.
It may be a good idea to cover up the docking area for the switchblade and the big drill, because right now they are potentially going to be exposed to a lot of enemy fire, which could be at least mitigated with a bit more armor

You should put a little arrow strip on the sides someone. Like ranks for them as they been in more battles

A hanger crane using the PARK script may do wonders for getting back up and going after a defense

Loving the new ship and the drills you used, but i have to say that one thruster that sticks out further than the drills do bothers me a bit :)
You could/should check the fallen reavers to get the uranium from their reactors. Not much but it could be helpful to have some for ammo
add some armor panels to the side of the tools so it exceeds 20 blocks and wont despawn
This is why i cant wait for the AI patch to finnally come, so i can send out hopefully a bunch of drones to atack such an encounter.

At minute 28: I think this clanging was because you were connected to a block and while printing another block (maybe a half block) came in between the connection.
Put more spotlights in your hanger build area.

That's what I was asking myself in the very moment.
I believe there is a mod for renaming ships too, which might be very handy once u get to little guy 10, save renaming everything individually, u can change name by prefix and suffix, so u could have the printer with them just labbeled without the number designation, then add them in after its printed then blueprint em for the ship projectors
I will search far and wide for this mod. That would make my life so much easier!

I feel the same way, re:projectors. if the projector has so much as 1 steel plate in it, I always bring it back and weld it back to full. And feel weirdly smug, like I beat the game.
If I have an axe, in which Inhave replaced the handle three times and the axe head has been replaced five times, is it the same axe? The answer is obviously not, but its still my axe.
If you don’t have names for your drones, perhaps you could call them “wasps” with the collective of them being “the swarm”

Aircraft during wars past would be annotated with symbols or flags of how many kills/downed rival aircraft they were credited with taking down. That could be a different way to mark your drones instead of simply how many sorties they've been in.
Name idea for the recovery ship: the Genesis!
