Roy is the reason why Jaws 2 is a decent follow up. His performance alone (not to say there aren't other decent things like John Williams' music) is the reason this movie works, even if he had a bad attitude on set and didn't want to return due to contractual obligations, he turned in a great performance.
Mmm. Not sure many would agree that it's a decent follow-up. It's really not a great film but you're absolutely right, Roy S was a wonderful actor and you can always rely on John Williams' music.

I wasn't comparing it to other films today (you're right, there are some stinkers), but as a stand-alone movie, it just felt a bit flat and paint-by-numbers and really didn't do it for me.. Just had a look and IMDB has it as a 5.8/10, with 61,000 having voted. I'd say that's about right. Definitely nothing special but it's all about opinions. Jaws 3, however, really IS a stinker! And don't get me started on Jaws: The Revenge!!

What’s noteworthy is that Roy Scheider really didn’t want to do this sequel and did it to get out of other contractual commitments- but even so he puts a fully invested performance and gives it his all. True pro.
Jaws 2 is probably one of my all-time favorites. The Sanity of Brody is more what this movie is about. Nobody believes him and he has to go through THAT HELL AGAIN, but ALONE this time. I can feel Brody's pain.
I remember my cousin telling me the story of when he went to see this film in the theatre. He said the audience would applaud every time the shark ate someone. The audience was rooting for the shark lol.
Man when I saw this scene where the shark was charging at Brody like that with the wake it was creating was insane it was like seeing a small boat coming at him from underwater.
I was gutted when Roy died. R.I.P Roy. Quick note. A sharks home is the sea. Please respect that. If you want to offer yourself on a dinner plate. By all means, swim in thier home. But it is your risk folks
Jaws 2 actually was a pretty decent sequel in all honesty, not a classical masterpiece like the first, but good enough to sit and enjoy Jaws 3 and 4 however.....

Plus the fact that I saw a behind the scenes documentary where they showed a handful of horrifying, and gory scenes that didn’t make it past the cutting room floor. Love the idea of a movie about a monster shark that eats people in horrific ways.
Jaws: The Revenge is one of the worst movies ever made. How the shots of the shark with a clear revelation of the mechanical components under the shark made it past the director and editor is clear indication of just how bad they knew it was and didnt care to edit it out. Awful acting, lousy writing, and terrible art direction ( the shark seems to grow in size and looks like paper mache) add to this disaster of filmmaking.

The Town Council was so stupid to refuse to believe that Amity has another shark problem a few years after Martin Brody personally killed one. If they listened, they would've saved a lot of trouble again.

Either Brody and the teenagers on the island of Cable Junction had managed to get the boat loose from that island or Brody had contacted the US Coast Guard to come take them back to Amity Island after disposing of the shark by getting it to bite on a power line and get such an electric shock and burned alive until it couldn't take it anymore and sunk to the bottom.
It's funny that he never did another Jaws movie after this again and yet he would return to the sea again as the captain of a futuristic submarine in the sci-fi t.v. series Seaquest as Captain Nathan Bridger for all of the first 2 seasons of the show and making a couple of guest appearances during the 3rd season just before his death.

Jaws 2 certainly doesn't deserve to be trashed.. 3 and 4 are horrible though.. I love it when animals can try and out think human beings. They usually end up dead. And Roy is a good actor. Just like watching anything to do with the actor Tom Hanks, in Sully, based on a true story, crashing in the East River. I like singers,like Brittons got talent, Susan Boyle,came out of nowhere, to win,she also won,now she's is on a World tour .I love entertainment, like most Americans .

Jaws 2 was exactly what Jaws set out to be. A well done B-movie that was entertaining to watch. Of course, Jaws had to go off and surpass every expectation, but the sequel is still a good flick and lived up to the essence of what it should have been.
From this scene one thing I always wondered about is just how much voltage was coursing through that cable that Brody used to kill the shark it must've been a lot considering hearing it and seeing it when the shark bit down on that cable it must've been insane.
Personally, I prefer "Smile, you sonofabitch!" but I do applaud the writers for using something different and not turning it into a catchphrase, like "Yippie-ki-yay" in the Die Hard movies.

As I stated before, it would not have worked, a scuba would not explode even if shot at. The solution used in the second movie was more workable plus the face down aspect was a real bonus.
In my head, the Roy character expected he would go too, but knew it had to be done. Also in my head, I'm not so sure Sharky is dead. Why didn't the jaw release? He is sulking at the bottom, regrowing his headskin, biding his time. Next time, it's personal.
Now Amity Island has to worry about getting the lights back on, because I'm sure that after a shock like that must have caused a complete blackout, and boy the electric bill, I don't even want to know jajajaja pretty decent end for the shark though.

An incredible, intoxicating film, but how the Jaws films shaped public perception of sharks, likely fuelling their decimation in many parts of the world, can't be overstated.
This man had bigger fish to fry. Had. In the George Lucas remaster, this is where Jaws briefly morphs into everybody he has eaten before finally going down.

As a child I loved jaws and jaws 2 have these in my blu ray collection not the others though they were a pass.
I've got the whole set 1-4 just because it's jaws.

This is one of those sequels where it’s not as good as the first but still is an Okay continuation of the story

Imo jaws 2 is an excellent sequal. Its a very worthy sequal. Part 3 has always been a guilty pleasure for me. Part 4 on the other hand....,

What bothered me about part 2 is that it's too friendly. Not enough blood.
Plot twist: That was the mechanical shark explosively malfunctioning beyond repair and they just kept it in the film.

I imagine they just shoved the boat back in, it still looks pretty seaworthy, the front was probably just banged up a bit
