So much fun trying to sacrifice the queen! Apparently on the other end there was a similar IM/GM level opponent streaming on what to do when the opponent is repeatedly offering a queen trade 😂
This video deserves an award for best chess video.. It is pure art to push yourself into end games with nicely lined up pawns. Also amazing to see him knowing where to lose pieces. There are so many 'in between rules' being shared here 🎉
That last game was pretty instructive and the opponent was actually pretty tricky. And guys please like the video Nelson is doing a great job here, we need more clicks!
Extraordinarily helpful and instructive content! Thank you so much for doing this. I’m learning a great deal from the series, especially this video as I needed to improve my endgame skills. Kudos to you man for for this fantastic series. I’ve been binching it for the past week now ❤
Peter is on a 117 game winning streak right now. Regardless of the levels you’re playing against that’s pretty awesome. Great work and love the channel.
One thing I’d like to point out in the last game: white sacked the knight for (apparently) no gain. But, what it did, was minimize the chances of an accidental stalemate. This could also occur if white had a queen and bishop in an open endgame position. It also simplifies the mental calculations since you now only have only one major piece; the queen. And a queen and king vs. a lone king is a win. In other words, the minor piece is kind of a liability here.
Impatient opponent? Well, luckily there is always another one waiting! I am totally happy to spend hours watching until we find one who can manage to not quit before the endgame. It is absolutely time well spent!
My 2 cents: rather than blundering your pieces in an obvious way, I'd prefer to see you play "to the level" of the elo you're facing. Walk into forks or skewers and see if the opponent spots it. As you climb up the rating ladder, you can move on to more advanced tactics. The middle game can still be instructive as you effectively analyze it from the opponents perspective, and hopefully they punish you for one of those mistakes and you can move into an endgame that way.
I really like the new twist of trading early to get to the endgame - even at a slight disadvantage. Getting instruction on this element of the game is fantastic! Great job!
i find lots of players at this level up to 900 are not really interested in end games. They want all out fight or nothing else and will just abandon or resign when you get to the end game. Also these people play 10 minute games but it's like they don't know there are other options to play 3 or 1 minute chess which is what they really want. Maybe just play the game to the end game and not talk until after the game.
Bruh, i love this guys videos, but i just feel sorry for those poor buggers that have to face a 2200 rated player, moreso someone who is deliberately making mistakes and still winning.
The last endgame didn't feel like 400 elo at all. Also, when I'm having fun by promoting multiple pawns, usually I make only one queen, and the rest are rooks: you still have easy ladder checkmate, but now the risk of stalemate is much lower. I think it also might be useful to give some tips on how to do the one-queen mate quickly (with 10 secs on the timer).
The slow approach and talking about different ideas is perfect for your puzzles videos which i love, for this ones i think you need a faster approach, just a suggestion.
my suggestion would be to alternate between the old and new style so that it balances between work on beginning/middle games and end games. Other than that, seems pretty helpful to me
Appreciating the trim dude. I think the crew cut suits you as well. You have the same problem as me in trying to cover the thinning. I EVENTUALLY just embraced my balding and looked at myself like a fine wine ( was good to start with, them an awkward phase where I wasn't so good, then flourished into a new flavour) 😂
They do get their rating refunded. But yea, getting stomped on like that isn't fun. Honestly though, learning to take a beating is an important chess skill. It happens from time to time if you play, and if you can handle it with grace, well, all the better.
@@kruksogi completely agree. these players can learn from their mistakes in their games. it's a learning opportunity. learning to take a beating isn't just a chess skill, its a skill in nearly every sport/activity.
Even as a player who is higher elo this helped me. Struggled a lot against the deadpool bot of 1300 elo. Watched this video and immediately beat him. I like to believe it was because of this video. Thanks a lot!
nelson , i think maybe you should do a zig zag type of games where you try to win in the first, and then the next game you go to the endgame. I think it might be more useful that way
How funny would it be for both players to be streamers trying to demonstrate an endgame, and each of them plays sub-100 chess until the endgame and then they both play bigbrain chess
Hi Nelson, re-viewing the rating climb, and it struck me here that one thing I think that You haven't covered yet, is how to attack/exploit the opponent's undefended pieces, I mean, they are usually easy to spot, but how to exploit it....? Also, I keep bumping into pawns being in the way for my maneuvering, either my opponent's defended pawns or my own misplaced, and I'm wondering, is there a way to plan pawn placement, or force pawn trades, to open up the position....??? Any way, wish You a good recovery from Your recent problems, You probably know, but we all love You for all that You are and give....!!!
I don't care for this style. As an intermediate player I got lots of ideas when you were playing at full strength. I loved it. This is deliberate bad chess and not really necessary. As the rating climb people will see real endgames.
thats pretty far fetched. to be under 600 elo, one would have to not even understand how pieces attack. that knowledge is not basic tactics or strategy; its in the rule book. i dont even understand how such low level examples can be used for "teaching" when the players havnt even read or comprehend the rules. hers a lesson... go read it or have someone read it to you. :D :D :D
29:05 why didn't you play rook e8? If the opponent got tunnel vision and kept pushing, they would lose a queen, and if they did notice it, well, you got a free tempo
Cripes [as just a regular player] that scares me! I'd never [be confident enough] to trade Castles and leave myself with just a Bishop and Pawns. I'd feel so much more confident that I could eat up more Pawns and get checks having a Castle. I also have never understood why there is always so much emphasis when it's one Bishop v one Knight. Surely the Knight has more scope, in at least, if northing else, being able to cover all the board and not just 50% like the Bishops?
So you are correct the knight has an advantage of being able to attack both color squares and if you look up bad bishop v good knight endgames you'll see just how big that can be. However, knights are also short range and clunky which means they are bad at dealing with action on both sides of the board at the same time (note the open center and shear number of isolated pawns also help in that game) additionally knights are very bad at dealing with A and H pawns. So in that particular endgame the bishop is far better than the knight. To some extent it will take practice and pattern recognition to figure out which piece is better in which endgame but a few things to look for are How open is the position? Will the knight have a good outpost on a square the opposite color of the bishop so it can never be dislodged? Are there pawns on both sides of the board or just 1? What colors are the pawns on (especially if they aren't mobile)? Bishops tend to like their opponent's pawn being on their color and their own pawns controlling the opposite color.
This happened with me and my opponent in a 1600 game. I was playing black and game started with 1. e4 e5 and white resigned coz I didn't played c5 as black 😂😂😂😂😂!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This video gives me more ideas. You could let the subs decide a move and you could analyze it. Also wonder if these guys felt like they got trolled 😂 CM with 5 seconds left
Love your content Nelson! I’m curious? What would you do if someone reported you for cheating because you were taking to long and you had someone email that you were doing leg exercises because of the gout? But they’re subscribers convinced him you were cheating? Crazy thought huh? Could he have been making rice?
Also, another thing to mention about trading a rook and a pawn for a bishop and a knight (37:45): these pieces could be attacking the king, and now they are gone, while the rook was simply guarding the pawn at best (at worst, it often gets in the way of your own king). So, after this trade, the king becomes super safe (+ there is no back rank checkmate), and you can just forget about your king until the endgame.
Yes, but at 5.38, why on earth would you not take the black queen on H5 and be up a queen? Black has totally had it if you do - in fact he's blundered his queen! I don't get it...

13:16 actually you can go Nf5 as the bishop is pinned. Then depending on where the kingside rook moves to you can go either Ng3 or Ne3+ later.
