1.Get a gearbox 1:2 2.Get a go kart axle 3.Keep the mower engine do some mods on it 4.the gearbox will be used to transfer the belt to a chain... 5.then you will be able to drift longer! That's what I did for my racing mower she doesnt break alot! Like so they can see
I would go for belt because it won't fall off all the time a chain is worst any ways if the belt slips off well that's an easy fix because all you need to do is hold the clutch on the chain you would be taking half the frame apart because you would need to take of the trans and the motor and if the crank snaps it will hit the tires and that will be a wast of money
dont mean to get weird but y'alls friendship is awesome!!! it's rare to see two best friends share a passion like you two!!! keep up the great work guys!
Keep going guys!! Love this machine! Build a belt guard on the bottom and just make sure your pulleys are all on the exact same plane. This is such a cool machine.
"That sounds really gross. Sounds like stirring a pot of macaroni and cheese." "... I love macaroni and cheese... " "me too." "So that doesn't sound gross to me when you put that way." "Honestly yeah that sounds really good right now." "Yeah sounds good sounds ah.... maaan let's have some macaroni and cheese tonight." Lmao. Guys getting side tracked :D
I've noticed the transaxle has no cooling fins. might i suggest you put a couple of barbed fittings in the case of it, with some rubber hoses and a small transmission cooler. run a small electric pump to circulate. increase the durability.
I still think a go kart rescue mobile would be just the coolest thing ever. Literally like a flatbed that you can pull a kart up on to with two seats and a good powerful engine. that would be the best tool you guys have lol. Thanks for posting all, can't wait to see what's next!
There is something about this thing that is just awesome :D But.... needs a bit more power, and better diff/gearbox, and belt guard, and turbo, and.... ohh you get the point. I like this series, I hope you keep it going for a while.
You guys should try buying Kevlar drive belts, i used to break belts all the time until i switched, oh and belt retainers around your pulleys will make huge improvements.
Guys ..... Jus' looking at your closing shot and wondering if you'd thought about reducing the negative camber on the front of the mower? Because it doesn't have suspension I reckon if you flatten the tyre's contact patch onto the ground it should increase front end grip hence reducing its tendency to understeer an' help with the drifting. Gotta be worth a try, eh?! Keep up the mighty fine work (or should that be FUN?!)
You guys should switch that belt drive system on the rear to a chain drive. Then you wouldn't have belt split so all the power would be put to the ground. Keep up the great work guys!
change to chain drive in place of the belt and put a guard on that bad boy. i can see someone gettng injured with that front puley between your legs. chain drive equals no drive loss.
SickenedSparrow not only that the chain and sprockets will be riding sideways most of the time they're not designed for that, gravity will try to pull them off the sprockets
chain drive will add a lot more problems with having to keep it oiled so it don't break or eat the drive sprockets but they do tend to last longer than a belt
Install an idler pulley to keep the belt from jumping around so bad and a couple hoops to ensure that it stays there. If you make the idler a tension pulley on the slack side it will have the ability to spit out small rocks rather than jumping off as well. With just a little more time and working the bugs out you can have a really cool toy so don't give up.
have yall thought of maybe taking off the pulley system and maybe welding on some kind of gear and chain system? you could get way more torque than what you're getting. it would be a hell of a task but its just an idea. im sure with y'alls mad genius it could be done and it would be a first!
Awesome build! it looks super fun to drift. But near the end you guys were talking about the stop marks from the steering and I think you should remove the Ackerman angle when steering left and right, this will extend your drifts and control of the mower like a proper drift car.
IF you are still wrenching on this, I think you could use the mower deck lift lever as the shifter - put an 8-ball on that and THAT's your Rat Rod Drift Shifter!
Throw some PVC tubing on the back wheels and go drift a parking lot(less rocks to dislodge the belt). Can you guys weld in a tensioner under there somewhere?
Maybe you guys could put a helper pulley next to the little drive pulley so that the belt wraps around the drive pulley more than how it is now just less than half way around. I have a feeling its so small that no matter how tight you get that belt it just isn't going to have enough metal to grab on.
Build a bottom skid plate drift edition when you get the belt drive fixed? make it lip out in front as a splitter, bend the back end of the skid plate as rear diffuser. It'll look fine + it helps to keep rocks from hitting that belt drive
Skid plate guys, skid plate! I dunno if you guys already tried it but overinflating the rear tires will probably help in giving you less traction in the gravel/dirt making drifting easier. I don't know how much more you can overinflate those tires but it might be worth looking into.
Need to rethink that drive system and put a full torque converter on it vs just the half you have on the engine. Then you wouldn't need to deal with so many gears anyway and it might help your belt cooking issue.
the pulley change has the belt spinning alote faster then stock. id suggest a guide pulley infront of the rear pulley. guard attached with some kind of pins for easy removal. just my thoughts. love your videos. cheers
Wow I would say that that trans was a nice upgrade. It actually kicks out sideways without really having to crank on the steering not like the old trans.
Am I the only one questioning why you guys never cut the muffler off that thing? Those engines sound great opened up... My friend in High School had a gokart powered by a Briggs engine and I made a straight pipe for it... amazing sound.
On my old go kart the guy sold it to me and I put in so much time then put on a 420 and it turned out that every single gear had pieces missing. I was done with it because it was too big to do a solid axle and the transaxle was made in Italy and discontinued, so I sold it to a guy that said he needed a project for the winter and he was happy.
as far as your starting problem check the alternator that sits under the flywheel. My lawnmower had the exact same problem until one day it just seized up and wouldn't start. It turns out one of the magnets that sits on the inside of the flywheel broke off. I too thought my battery was bad and my charger was bad but all along it was the flywheel.
Maybe mcgyver a centrifugal clutch assembly for the drive belt? Might help it stay engaged longer and reduce the chance of the belt coming off the pulley.
Need to put slick go cart tires on the front and the biggest slick tires on the back you can find and hopefully with that the mower will be low enough without it rubbing the ground the mower won't flip if it catches something in a drift
I see an elongated chassis "rad rod" looking mod making space for some kind of chain drive in your future. Also a companion drift/race mower so's you can both tear it up at the same time!!
The Gear oil is not enough for those transaxles. Best thing is to pack it full of Grease. Drill out a spot and put a grease zerk in and pump it full of grease. It will definitely be better for it in the long run.
take the pulleys off put a couple of sprockets on there weld on a casing in the front between your legs just in case that the chain comes off and it doesn't wrap around your legs and rip your leg off that would be better than that pulleys with the fan belt.... go fig. it's just an idea..... 😉
Might be better off getting a Peerless 700 race spec transmission and converting to a live axle. Very hard to kill the 700 and if you do, parts are decently cheap to get.
For a project you guys should build a recovery kart. Something to recover other vehicles when they break down. For example a kart with a low, built in bed like a truck so you can just roll it right onto the bed. Or build a towing trailer that can attach to the back of a kart
I'm surprised that the bearings that support your transmission pulley don't dry up and Fry, I figure gravity and friction would pull the lubricant away
Would love to see this mower fixed up to a go kart type of rear (solid axle and chain drive) some performance parts and see how she top speed then. I have no clue where y'all are located but I'd be willing to build a racing mower just to beat ya! 😝
one thing I found out about the mower rearends. was that the thicker the oil the better it was. I used 80/90 Gear oil. and a tub of high temp grease. then ran it and let it warm up and mix. worked for almost 6 months till I broke the shift key and it broke the case
I'm so envious of how much fun you guys have. This show shows you how much fun you can have on a budget.
Humble beginnings. I remember the good days. This is what made me want a racing mower...
1.Get a gearbox 1:2
2.Get a go kart axle
3.Keep the mower engine do some mods on it
4.the gearbox will be used to transfer the belt to a chain...
5.then you will be able to drift longer!
That's what I did for my racing mower she doesnt break alot! Like so they can see
wthomasw2 And still do an under guard! A rock between a belt and pulley is one thing but a rock between a sprocket and chain is more broken parts...
Zeke770 They just have to build a chain guard i guess Im racing on concrete and never saw someone who got a rock in their pulley or even chain
wthomasw2 no no no
I would go for belt because it won't fall off all the time a chain is worst any ways if the belt slips off well that's an easy fix because all you need to do is hold the clutch on the chain you would be taking half the frame apart because you would need to take of the trans and the motor and if the crank snaps it will hit the tires and that will be a wast of money
Dude dirt bikes has chain and sprocket and they are fine with rocks
dont mean to get weird but y'alls friendship is awesome!!! it's rare to see two best friends share a passion like you two!!! keep up the great work guys!
thanks
I must say, that was the finest bit of lawn mower drifting, i've ever seen!
lol. thanks
Keep going guys!! Love this machine! Build a belt guard on the bottom and just make sure your pulleys are all on the exact same plane. This is such a cool machine.
thanks
"5 minutes of fun" pretty much sums up mine and my buddies experience with our racing mowers. those 5 minutes are glorious though.
Sounds like my first wife..
it seems to drift better with the five speed. you were holding the drift longer. Awesome
"That sounds really gross. Sounds like stirring a pot of macaroni and cheese."
"... I love macaroni and cheese... "
"me too."
"So that doesn't sound gross to me when you put that way."
"Honestly yeah that sounds really good right now."
"Yeah sounds good sounds ah.... maaan let's have some macaroni and cheese tonight."
Lmao. Guys getting side tracked :D
I love it tho
I've noticed the transaxle has no cooling fins. might i suggest you put a couple of barbed fittings in the case of it, with some rubber hoses and a small transmission cooler. run a small electric pump to circulate. increase the durability.
I think it needs nitrous until she blows.
Check out the nitrous vs push lawnmower video and become legends in youtube history yourselves
CarsandCameras. the mower needs racing go kart tires. and put the hood back on. please!!!
CarsandCameras when will you do the other lawn mower
Phat Ballz I think it looks better without the hood
Fat Bean it does look good. just it would look kinda professional with it on lol.
I still think a go kart rescue mobile would be just the coolest thing ever. Literally like a flatbed that you can pull a kart up on to with two seats and a good powerful engine. that would be the best tool you guys have lol. Thanks for posting all, can't wait to see what's next!

You guys should try buying Kevlar drive belts, i used to break belts all the time until i switched, oh and belt retainers around your pulleys will make huge improvements.
2 things it needs: Direct steering (no reduction, so just a straight shaft like a go kart) and go kart wheels and tires with pvc sleeves around them
Belt solution, sprocket on torque converter and jack shaft and driven using a chain!
Guys ..... Jus' looking at your closing shot and wondering if you'd thought about reducing the negative camber on the front of the mower?

Ben Pratt don't you think they should supe up a 4 wheeler
Ant Splungie i like the oddball builds!
They would also have to find a way to engage and disengaged the chain when pushing in the clutch.
SickenedSparrow not only that the chain and sprockets will be riding sideways most of the time they're not designed for that, gravity will try to pull them off the sprockets
switch to a chain as it has a torque converter. just weld gears on top of the existing pulleys.
chain drive will add a lot more problems with having to keep it oiled so it don't break or eat the drive sprockets but they do tend to last longer than a belt
Install an idler pulley to keep the belt from jumping around so bad and a couple hoops to ensure that it stays there. they would half to make a cimplicated clutch system ive put lots of thought into it
Awesome build! it looks super fun to drift. But near the end you guys were talking about the stop marks from the steering and I think you should remove the Ackerman angle when steering left and right, this will extend your drifts and control of the mower like a proper drift car.
I would try to double up pulleys and run dual belt. And add guards from rocks of course.
Make it chain drive? No slipping and no more broken belts. Just have to find a few sprockets and a long chain
IF you are still wrenching on this, I think you could use the mower deck lift lever as the shifter - put an 8-ball on that and THAT's your Rat Rod Drift Shifter!
So glad you brought it back!!!
Weld in some stops for the steering to save your tires and keep em from locking up. Just an idea.

You guys were getting some angle, that was awesome
Build a bottom skid plate drift edition when you get the belt drive fixed? make it lip out in front as a splitter, bend the back end of the skid plate as rear diffuser. It'll look fine + it helps to keep rocks from hitting that belt drive
Great works guys :) Next time, try to drift by turning right, there will be a big cloud of white smoke
You need to dial in this thing properly, it's the most interesting build on this channel imo!
This is amazing :) I'm planning to do this with my dad's old mower
Skid plate guys, skid plate!
I dunno if you guys already tried it but overinflating the rear tires will probably help in giving you less traction in the gravel/dirt making drifting easier. I don't know how much more you can overinflate those tires but it might be worth looking into.
Need to rethink that drive system and put a full torque converter on it vs just the half you have on the engine. Then you wouldn't need to deal with so many gears anyway and it might help your belt cooking issue.
you guys should make two to do drift races and put skid plates on the bottom to protect the belt
the pulley change has the belt spinning alote faster then stock. id suggest a guide pulley infront of the rear pulley. guard attached with some kind of pins for easy removal. just my thoughts. love your videos. cheers
things badass you guys! looked like so much fun
Should you use a chain from the jack shaft to the transaxle to limit slip?
Wow I would say that that trans was a nice upgrade. It actually kicks out sideways without really having to crank on the steering not like the old trans.
you guys are having way too much fun. keep it come
yall should build a towing and recovery rig for dragging in the go karts and stuff when they break down
my five speed feels about the same as my six speed. the mst y'all are putting in it is still a good one but not as strong.
Am I the only one questioning why you guys never cut the muffler off that thing? Those engines sound great opened up... My friend in High School had a gokart powered by a Briggs engine and I made a straight pipe for it... amazing sound.
This was pure greatness
Do you think a hand brake would help with the drifting? Maybe a plate up against the tire like the old go carts used for brakes.
I started my own racing mower just because of these guys
On my old go kart the guy sold it to me and I put in so much time then put on a 420 and it turned out that every single gear had pieces missing. I was done with it because it was too big to do a solid axle and the transaxle was made in Italy and discontinued, so I sold it to a guy that said he needed a project for the winter and he was happy.
build off vs red beards garage!! oh and a rice between the two karts would be sick!
She's like a lady, a lot of hard work only to get the best 5 minutes of your life.
LOL!!!
The ladies could say the same about the guys as well.
5 min, what a pud!
It be fine, lol
@@ModMINI not possible.
i know ike didnt enjoy downgrading to a 5-speed but now it gives mor torque to spin the tires for drifting
Could you change the rear shaft to chain drive to avoid slipping?
You guys should try to out the hood back on it!
Nice video
I think you should wrap some PVC or HDPE pipe around the rear tyres and go on the road or at a carpark :))
Love the vids :)
wish we was closer we could run some tandems....would even let you ride mine when yours breaks down haha
I was having the same belt problems with one of my mowers, I put a full skid plate on the bottom, haven't blown a belt since
as far as your starting problem check the alternator that sits under the flywheel. My lawnmower had the exact same problem until one day it just seized up and wouldn't start. It turns out one of the magnets that sits on the inside of the flywheel broke off. I too thought my battery was bad and my charger was bad but all along it was the flywheel.
Well, at least you were having fun for the few minutes that it worked...
Maybe mcgyver a centrifugal clutch assembly for the drive belt? Might help it stay engaged longer and reduce the chance of the belt coming off the pulley.
I had the same issue witht the briggs ic in my mower. adjust the valves. the ics have a bump on the exhaust lobe to lower the compression for starting
Drift mower is best mower, sucks that it's not reliable. Love the videos as always!
thanks
yay a new video from card and karts
Need to put slick go cart tires on the front and the biggest slick tires on the back you can find and hopefully with that the mower will be low enough without it rubbing the ground the mower won't flip if it catches something in a drift
Thought about chain for the drive line or a shaft driven cub cadet rear assembly?
love yhe mower and i am making my racing Mower and you really helped in the process with it
love the mower
You guys should put a light bar on the front part of the frame.
You should get one of those 80cc bike motor kits and do a video on putting it together
they should put a splined belt and pulleys to keep the belt from slipping and it will help keep it in place
It will definitely be better for it in the long run.

this is like the lawn mower version of roadkill
I needs drift sleeves on the tires in the back
Might be better off getting a Peerless 700 race spec transmission and converting to a live axle. Very hard to kill the 700 and if you do, parts are decently cheap to get.
For a project you guys should build a recovery kart. Something to recover other vehicles when they break down. For example a kart with a low, built in bed like a truck so you can just roll it right onto the bed. Or build a towing trailer that can attach to the back of a kart
y'all should put pvc on the back tires like the trike!
Can you mix and match the gears from the new and old transmissions to achieve the ratios you want?
It's a dumb question, but for all the starting problems, have you check the gap on the valve rockers?
yep
For the future you guys should consider swaping a good size dirt bike engine or sports bike engine in one of the carts
Have you guys thought about moving the seat forward to help with the drifting?
how about a skid plate? That would help with debris hitting the belts. And you can jump it to lol
You might have to adjust the valves to make it start easier.the valves can get tight making it have
too Much compression
I'm 13 and bought a lawn mower and when by your step by step and it looks the same my nabours hate me
Same here dude
You guys need to put that turbo from the drift trike on the drift mower
I'm surprised that the bearings that support your transmission pulley don't dry up and Fry, I figure gravity and friction would pull the lubricant away
Why don't you guys make it shaft driven?? Keep up the great work. Really like the videos. 👍👍👍👍👍
you guys should put a different muffler on there, maybe some stacks?
You know harbor freight now makes a vertical shaft 670cc as well as the
horizontal shaft. You two should put it on the mower to make it faster
thats a clean eg, when are u stancing it`?
You should make the handle to lower the blade into some kind of e brake. Then you could do some proper drifting.
tap a hole in the case so it can relief heat and pressure and run a line and put like a fuel filter or any filter on
Would love to see this mower fixed up to a go kart type of rear (solid axle and chain drive) some performance parts and see how she top speed then. I have no clue where y'all are located but I'd be willing to build a racing mower just to beat ya! 😝
Lol, the disappointment. "It'll be fine......."
I think this mower will look so much more badass with a custom made hood...
one thing I found out about the mower rearends. was that the thicker the oil the better it was. I used 80/90 Gear oil. and a tub of high temp grease. then ran it and let it warm up and mix. worked for almost 6 months till I broke the shift key and it broke the case
I have this same lawn tractor. I wish I could do this to it. But I use it to mow the lawn. Maybe I'll change out the pulleys.
you guy should get a led light bar on the front frigin right
I think the clutch is what keeps making y'all shred belts. if y'all throw a 6in pulley on the front y'all should be back to where it's fast still.
