This is simply my opinion, but i kinda agree with you... i'm born in generation where classic/opera isnt popular genre as many of my friend of similar age leaning more toward modern music... But as i often time spend times with people older than my age, i start to listen more on the classic which in their own way has jts own charm... So when i heard dimash perform i can feel the modern touch in the classic/opera like singing n vice versa... That is what i like about dimash, he is like a bridge that connect 2 different generation n show to world old doesn't mean obsolete, n new doesn't mean better...
The most craziest thing with this song is that when I heard this 2017 version of Dimash’s SOS for the first time I thought it the most perfect and amazing performance ever, but then came Slavic Bazar 2018 version, and then UAE performance, and then from his Digital Concert this year. And each time it’s more and more perfect, amazing, emotional, mesmerising, although it seems impossible to be so. Dimash is such an incredible, talented, disciplined, hard-working and humble person! He is from Kazakhstan and has been music schooled sense 5 years old and told the teacher that the piano was out of tune! He sings about 6-7 octaves or so! No one knows he is still learning. He sings higher than the piano can go! He also writs and compose own songs, plays bunch of instruments including Dombra there own Kazakh instrument that has a sound you can’t believe and onley 2 strings! He also sings in about 12 languages and speaks 3 so far. Dimash has an excellent education: he graduated from the College of Music with a degree in Opera Singing, university of arts in the specialty "Estrada and jazz vocals", and on June 18, 2020, he completed a master's degree in Composition. He graduated with a degree in opera from the music school at the University of Aktobe (2014), a degree in pop/jazz from the National Arts University in Nur Sultan (2018), just completed his Master's degree in composition (June 2020) and have started his PhD. He have done some contests in his life but the one I think got the worlds intension is "The Singer" (Allso called "I am a singer" or "Singer") from China in 2017. The Singer is a program for established Chinese singers to face off against each other invites only in a competition where votes were cast by an audience of 500. Dimash Qudaibergen was a last-minute inclusion (a 'dark horse'). But his performance of 'SOS D'un Terrien En Detresse' electrified the audience, his fellow competitors and the viewers who numbered in the billions (this program was one of the most-watched in China and outside). They also got him the nickname "Imported little brother" the day after the show. They also had to get bodyguard for Dimash do to the famous over night both in China and also the world. Dimash wasn’t really prepared for that. He had come to China at 22 years young man by him self and didn’t know the language. They hade contracted him for 2 shows because they didn’t think he cold go further than that. He didn’t think they would like him. So he was nervous this performers that he had also to start the show with. But they hade to change that do to his famous over night. Dimash got many new friends from this show and he said at some point he learned a lot from it to. Its a beautiful French song from a 1970s rock opera called "Starmania". Dimash is here an eatrthling in distress calling SOS (the title of the song). This was Dimash's breakout performance. He had done amateur competitions previously in the Kazakhstan/Russia/Ukraine area. Because of his previous contest wins, someone at the "I Am A Singer" contest (huge, huge Chinese 13 week show) noticed him and gave him the first ever wildcard entry for a foreign singer, not yet pro and quite young. So he got the opening song on the opening night of the 2017 show. It's a tough show, so all the pros in the green room are clearly pulling for the new kid. The directors also acknowledge the tough spot he is in, so they ask the audience to give a warm welcome. But then the quick reversal when they realize they're in trouble! And someone has to go on next. And Dimash did feel the pressure. Right after the big run, that little smile shows his relief of hitting the big run cleanly and having the whole house silent during the pause. I haven't seen him break character during a song since that one little half second smile. He needed bodyguards to go shopping the next day. There haven't been many men who can sing this song effectively. It was part of a French-Canadian rock opera, Starmania and this song was written for a particular french singer, (Correction) Daniel Balavoine. There is YT video. Gregory Lemarchal also sang it and also has a YT video. Thanks to Faja Lobi for the correction. Some women have sung SOS, but they really suffer on the low notes. This was a chinese show for highly respected singers to compete, Dimash was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan is 6ft 3, 1/4 and was the youngest ever competitor in 2017 at only 22 years old. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China. He is now a world class artist, still just turned 26 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, (on hold until next year due to covid-19) he also performs in concerts with the famous russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and now has finished his master degree in music composition and it is about to start his doctorate in Musicology. This is simply my opinion, but i kinda agree with you... i'm born in generation where classic/opera isnt popular genre as many of my friend of similar age leaning more toward modern music... But as i often time spend times with people older than my age, i start to listen more on the classic which in their own way has jts own charm... So when i heard dimash perform i can feel the modern touch in the classic/opera like singing n vice versa... That is what i like about dimash, he is like a bridge that connect 2 different generation n show to world old doesn't mean obsolete, n new doesn't mean better...

The most craziest thing with this song is that when I heard this 2017 version of Dimash’s SOS for the first time I thought it the most perfect and amazing performance ever, but then came Slavic Bazar 2018 version, and then UAE performance, and then from his Digital Concert this year. I just heard him two days ago and I couldn’t function for two days after I heard this song. I literally couldn’t do anything after hearing this song. It took me out of this world. It's so fun for us "Dears" (that’s what Dimash calls his fans because he loves us as a dear family) to see how people react to him.
Some info about Dimash. He is born in May 24 1994. He is from Kazakhstan and has been music schooled sense 5 years old and told the teacher that the piano was out of tune! He sings about 6-7 octaves or so! No one knows he is still learning. He sings higher than the piano can go! He also writs and compose own songs, plays bunch of instruments including Dombra there own Kazakh instrument that has a sound you can’t believe and onley 2 strings! He also sings in about 12 languages and speaks 3 so far.
Dimash has an excellent education: he graduated from the College of Music with a degree in Opera Singing, university of arts in the specialty "Estrada and jazz vocals", and on June 18, 2020, he completed a master's degree in Composition. He graduated with a degree in opera from the music school at the University of Aktobe (2014), a degree in pop/jazz from the National Arts University in Nur Sultan (2018), just completed his Master's degree in composition (June 2020) and have started his PhD.
He have done some contests in his life but the one I think got the worlds intension is "The Singer" (Allso called "I am a singer" or "Singer") from China in 2017. The Singer is a program for established Chinese singers to face off against each other invites only in a competition where votes were cast by an audience of 500.
Dimash Qudaibergen was a last-minute inclusion (a 'dark horse'). But his performance of 'SOS D'un Terrien En Detresse' electrified the audience, his fellow competitors and the viewers who numbered in the billions (this program was one of the most-watched in China and outside).
They also got him the nickname "Imported little brother" the day after the show. They also had to get bodyguard for Dimash do to the famous over night both in China and also the world. Dimash wasn’t really prepared for that. He had come to China at 22 years young man by him self and didn’t know the language. They hade contracted him for 2 shows because they didn’t think he cold go further than that. He didn’t think they would like him. So he was nervous this performers that he had also to start the show with. But they hade to change that do to his famous over night.
Dimash got many new friends from this show and he said at some point he learned a lot from it to.

Gloria Wu's channel has the back-story about the song that is so sad and from a life story about a boy losing his parents in an awful way. Also you get to hear how Dimash sounds like then loosing his voice the day of the show!!! When he went on he didn’t know if he could sing. Looking close at the other contestants they where so worried about him. He lost his voice again after. Li Jian another contestant bought him a very very expensive Chinese medication for him so he could get better soon!

If I remember correct he wrote the music to this one when he was 17 or 19 years old and lyrics by Oral-kosai Baisengir, who was a poet/lyricist father of a friend of Dimash. Also in this show another contestant "Terry Lin" that was about 51 years young here he considered Dimash a dear friend at this point. But Dimash started telling them al he was his father around episode 9 I think!! That is a big respect and love from his part of the world to call him! Terry was gladly accepting it. They are still that close and also invites each other to there concerts and sometimes singing this song in duet to. They sang it in Jackie Chang movie festival in 2019 and Jackie was choked in how good they were. Terry was known as an alien before Dimash and they have similar vocals to.

This performance is only the tip of the iceberg.This beautiful song: "SOS d'un terrien en détresse" was written more than 20 years before Dimash Qudaibergen was born, but he definitely made it his forever, when Luc Plamondon and Michel Berger composed it, they didn't have an idea, they didn't imagine who was going to be his definitive owner. I also enjoy other Dimash's versions of this song that are always in a unique and masterful way (my favorite is "SOS, Slavic Bazaar"). For those who have just started this long journey to the magical world that opens with the celestial sound which comes from Dimash's throat, it will be a before and an after in their lives, but it will be for the better. 👉 This was a historic moment and the song of the songs for Dimash and us, his Dears (This is what Dimash calls us fans.) This song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' 1978, well known in French-speaking countries) and is one of the most difficult songs to sing and made Dimash a mega-star overnight.
In 2017 Dimash received a wild-card for the competition “The Singer” in China. He was the youngest participant of all time (22 years) and the first non-Chinese. Only professional, award-winning singers take part. Nobody knew or hear Dimash before and he also had to start first... and after this song Dimash captured the hearts of millions of viewers overnight. The next day, bodyguards stood at his door.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds, over 4 months. The jury consists of 500 spectators. With up to 1 billion people see this tv-program, that's generated international interest. The performances were uploaded to UA-cam... and so, we became Dimash’s Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned that Dimash would survive two episodes of the competition and go home again. They didn't really believe in him. But Dimash came, sang and stayed... for the next 3 years in China... but he only finished second in the competition because he's not Chinese (conditions have changed: The next year, Jessie J. won).
👉 In January 2021 Dimash was one of the few foreigners who has been asked to attend the live online show marking the inauguration of the President of U.S.A. Joe Biden. He is here as a representative of his country Kazakhstan and he is also here for his Dears from all over the world. This is the first time in the 67-year history of the Sister Cities and the first time since relations between the United States and the concentration camp began (almost 30 years ago) that an artist from Kazakhstan has attended such an event.

Its a beautiful French song from a 1970s rock opera called "Starmania". Dimash is here an eatrthling in distress calling SOS (the title of the song). The lyrics are mesmerizing, when you know them and listen to the song is an enhanced experience. It is also his first appearance in a great Chinese Show "The Singer" where he ranked second I think. He wasnt talking French or English by the time (22 years old here), he sang them phonetically. After this he won millions Chinese fans and more worldwide since all his appearances were otherwordly. This was Dimash's breakout performance. He had done amateur competitions previously in the Kazakhstan/Russia/Ukraine area.
Because of his previous contest wins, someone at the "I Am A Singer" contest (huge, huge Chinese 13 week show) noticed him and gave him the first ever wildcard entry for a foreign singer, not yet pro and quite young. So he got the opening song on the opening night of the 2017 show. It's a tough show, so all the pros in the green room are clearly pulling for the new kid. The directors also acknowledge the tough spot he is in, so they ask the audience to give a warm welcome. But then the quick reversal when they realize they're in trouble! And someone has to go on next. And Dimash did feel the pressure. Right after the big run, that little smile shows his relief of hitting the big run cleanly and having the whole house silent during the pause. I haven't seen him break character during a song since that one little half second smile. He needed bodyguards to go shopping the next day.
There haven't been many men who can sing this song effectively. It was part of a French-Canadian rock opera, Starmania and this song was written for a particular french singer, (Correction) Daniel Balavoine. There is YT video. Gregory Lemarchal also sang it and also has a YT video. Thanks to Faja Lobi for the correction.
Some women have sung SOS, but they really suffer on the low notes.

This was a chinese show for highly respected singers to compete, Dimash was the only non Chinese singer invited because the producer saw him perform for the Chinese and Kazakh presidents and was very impressed. He is from Kazakhstan is 6ft 3, 1/4 and was the youngest ever competitor in 2017 at only 22 years old. This was his first performance on the show and the audience went wild for him. When the show was broadcast on tv he had to have bodyguards for the first time in his life as he had become a superstar overnight in China. He is now a world class artist, still just turned 26 on the 24th of May but touring the world to sell out arenas with his solo concerts, (on hold until next year due to covid-19) he also performs in concerts with the famous russian composer Igor Krutoy, is constantly collecting awards, attends many prestigious red carpet events, film festivals and even models for lots of high end fashion houses. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and now has finished his master degree in music composition and it is about to start his doctorate in Musicology. Dimash is the Most Skilled Vocalist ever!!! ❤️🎤🔝🎼👏👏👏👏 Dimash rendition of 🆘 is quite better and more beautiful 👌

This was the perfect first song to have done from Dimash. It was his first performance from the 2017 The Singer competition in China.
