How does Arc stack up in 2024? (The Current State of Arc) | Destiny 2 Design Analysis

  • Arc was the final light subclass to receive a 3.0 update during the Season of Plunder. Over time, Arc has went from being the best subclass in the game, to being pretty forgotten about. Without seasonal artifact mod support since Season of the Deep, most people are sleeping on this subclass. But does Arc have what it takes to be a true meta choice in 2024? Today we'll be talking about how Arc performs on Hunter, Warlock, and Titan in PvE and PvP. I will also be giving my recommended builds for each class, as well as providing a DIM link to Arc loadouts below. Will Arc be your subclass of choice going into The Final Shape?

    Arc needs 1 new keyword atleast, maybe a new one that’s like the new manticore effect where things are less likely to hit you (because it’s arc and you are moving so fast the enemies can’t hit you)

      This, for the love of God. Make it so when I'm Amplified & Boosted enemies can't track me as easily, or seeking stuff just can't lock on to me. That would be amazing.

      They should just change mobility to do this, which in turn would massively improve amplified

      If they went that route they should add the ability to sprint in all directions either when amplified or when speed booster is up, that way it's less awkward to engage enemies while periodically turning away to sprint to keep speed booster up

    minor correction on Chaos Reach: It DOES outdamage Nova Bomb, but the problem is the time needed to commit to that damage. Especially if you want more damage with geomags which costs you more time. The problem is the damage to value ratio of Chaos Reach will never be there due to it requiring time to sink into damage, when you can run a burst super like Needlestorm and get the damage out immediately.

      Chaos Reach really needs a Pyro Gales/Celestial Nighthawk type of exotic that outputs its damage quickly while buffing it simultaneously. Its long duration is why it’s so unpractical in most situations.
      The only problem I see with the creation of an exotic like that is that it would almost completely invalidate an exiting exotic like Geomags (If it still had the super charge, it would still have a use)

      Came here to mention this. ALL of the arc subclasses really struggle to get going when you're remotely under power for an activity, hunter especially since it relies on your melee so heavily.

    Honestly, I think putting subclasses into the artifact is horrible for build crafting. They end up forcing a small number of builds to the top of the roster unless it is a truly busted build (throwing hammer titan, BOW titan, WoR, etc). And that hurts the game if you ask me.

      I don't mind subclass stuff in the artifact but I would like it if every subclass got one or two perks minimum instead of having like 5 solar perks

      My fix to this is that in final shape or some time after if bungie just gives us access to every artifact. It'll allow us to choose what artifact we want to use for our builds and would add a ton of build diversity. This would allow people to use what they want in the content they want. Artifacts would become a part of our kit again like D1 rather than just a seasonal rotator.

    I absolutely love Striker Titan in PvE, I hope that eventually we’ll see an update to Cuirass of the Falling Star a bonus that’ll affect its neutral game. Specifically I hope it gets the Pyrogale Gauntlets treatment and augments Ballistic Slam, maybe something like an Overshield on impact, or unleashing a frontal wave of Arc energy along the ground like the D1 perk “Shockwave”

    Chaos reach needs a buff desperately, I think that the lighting blasts from sustained damage should do a lot more damage. So we aren’t just increasing the damage of the actual beam to make it completely op but with a huge increase to the lightning strikes from sustained damage it would increase its potency as a damage super while also buffing geo mags indirectly

    Arc is perfectly fine OFFENSIVELY. Jolt and Blind are great Verbs.
    The issue lies with Amplified and Speedbooster
    1) Sprinting should have Resistance when Amplified not just Speed Booster
    2) When Amplified you Regen 20 Shields per second when Sprinting
    3) Speedbooster has the Manticore Accuracy effect against Combatants
    4) When Amplified your MAX shields increase by 30% and Regenerate 30% Faster ( Reduced to 15% in PvP)
    5) Ionic Traces should Heal 10 Shields and 20 When Amplified
    It doesn't need a new Verb just boost Amplified as its the main and ONLY Buff Verb
    These wouldn't even make it OP its a nice boost anls Restoration is 35 Health a Second. Just make Amplified all about Shields not Health

      speed boost has DR in it, but need to revamp either by moving DR into amplified at base or make speed boost easier to maintain.
      or Arc class get a new verb that gives them massive resistance since arc fragments functions well on low health.

      Thats my response to this. Ionic traces are already the best base elemental pick up and the shields per second thing is not balanced.
      The rest I could see but I don’t think arc makes the most sense to have over health. For me that’s stasis (I dunno if we know what that does yet but I predict that)

      The problem is jolt is way too much of a focus. They shouldn't have made the arc grenades jolt fragment and kept that warlock exclusive.
      Titans should've then gotten a focus on blind

      1.) Give damage resistance to both Amplified and Speed-boost?
      2.) A miniature version of Banner of War?
      3.) Give Speed-boost a bit of Lightning Reflexes(Arcstrider 2.0 skill tree)?

    As a hunter main, I think arc is very much lacking and can’t remember ever seeing an arc hunter with me in a GM. Maybe when the artifact comes back around, that will change, but solar, strand, and void are leaps and bounds ahead of arc in harder content, imo. I would even say that Stasis hunter is ahead of arc for high end content. The other 2 classes, I don’t know. I don’t use arc on either. Strand titan and solar or void Warlock is the usual. Great videos, btw. Love this series

      As a hunter main I agree with you I will never run arc on GM's when void exists ,it's too risky (arc needs similar DR like woven mail) funny enough I run GM's on arc with warlock and titan, ability spam is soo awesome,but hunter kind of heavily rely on melee playstyle
      I do remember people speedruning GM's with arc hunter
      Biggest issues I have when I run arc hunter is my team kill everything around me and I can't proc comb blow or invis and iam screwed
      In the other hand I was add clear in Ron,in planet encounter,its best memories I have with arc hunter

      Agree with both of you. Im stubborn and always run arc hunter, also dont do the punch dodge build, but i pay for it in gms. The best off meta thing i can do is try to blind everything for my team to cleanup and prevent it from killing me while i hide in the back of the room. Meanwhile a BoW titan is just rushing through mobs like theyre butter. Arc hunter needs something to allow it to branch out from the one viable playstyle of rolly polly punchy with assassins cowl and 1,2 punch shotgun.

    So, something you missed about Geomags, it is by far (at least to my knowledge) the fastest way to get your supers, since Ionic Traces grant super energy via the boots.

    Arc is like the coolest class, some of the best SFX and effects in general
    what if enemies were less aggressive to you while speed booster is happening? Would be a good way to make it a little better
    And for a defensive keyword how about after images while amplified\speed booster: you leave behind 3 low health after-images every 10 seconds that work like Threaded Specter where they draw attention from ads(again at very low health) while speed booster is active. Could even have them activate off hunter dodge, Thruster, and Warlock slide melee while amplified(to make base amplified even better). I know Arc has a lot of keywords but I think that would be the sickest addition to the “aggressive speedster fantasy” Bungie wants the class to be; you’re moving so fast enemies can’t even decipher you from the after images you leave behind, its so badass

      I think some kind of ‘evade’ effect for speed boost would be good. Where in around 20% maybe of the shots that ‘hit’ you just don’t register at all. It would stack with spark of resistance but its still not a huge boost as it will do nothing if you get sniped from across the map and its hit registers. Or it could entirely save your bacon if you’re lucky by evading something like a Wyvern smash. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    while it is true that Thundercrash does a lot of Burst damage, it also tends to put the titan in a pretty bad spot, or the boss might even stomp and send you flying further away, and in most raids it actually results in lesser damage, because you either need to run back to your team or Thundercrash just doesent work on the boss, and without the falling star exotic, thundercrash is probably one of the weakest supers in the entire game.
    honestly at this point Bungie should just make the damage buff the exotic provides baseline for the super, and then rework the exotic so instead you can teleport back to where you activated it or something so the titan can participate in the DPS phase more reliably
    and don't get me started on the consistency of thundercrash, for some reason trying to hit most enemies with thundercrash just makes you slide around them, like your covered in soap or something.

      I like the teleporting idea, especially when in boss encounters which require you to stand in a certain place to do damage. Look at the KF raid Warpriest encounter, for example, if you're not standing in the red sphere, the boss is pretty much invulnerable. There needs to be a work-around for that or else it's pretty useless.

      Here is the thing, if we multiply the damage of BASE thundercrash by 1.8 it is now equivalent to BASE needlestorm. The exotic should be base line, and with upcoming star-eaters becoming available, cuirass should also be competitive to that. Its absurd how little damage thundercrash does. Melees will out damage it without too much building.
      I would also like to point out that thruster was the only subclass specific ability that didnt include any subclass verb. Doesnt break aim assist or grant second effects. I still love it but it pales when i play hunter.
      Also knockout and juggernaut are not real aspects. Knockout is weaker than spark of feedback lmao

      I know exactly what ur talking about when sliding off enemies, but i think it would be sick if they just either made a new super or make falling star do it, but 1 make falling star work on gorrilla spam too, and also i would like to see thundercrash reworked i to an almost thunderclap-esque one shot ranged thing but obviously super damage

      Make falling star work for Fist of Havoc as well, and have both Thundercrash and Fist of Havoc have a baseline increase of power of at least 1.5

    I kinda wish Spark Of Resistance would be changed to be more like the artifact mod Amped Up (While amplified you gain damage resistance). Because in higher-end content having to be so close to 3+ enemies is kinda of a death sentence, changing it would allow the player to play at more of a distance. I really don't think it'd be overpowered since every other subclass is able to get healing, over-shields, or damage resist without having to be in harms way. Also, a fragment that would allow a small amount of healing on Ionic Trace pickups, similar to Recuperation wouldn't be terrible either, it would really help with survivability, something Arc sorely lacks.

    With this week’s surge for pantheon being arc and stasis, it made me realize how rough of a state arc is in compared to solar, strand and void. My team was getting cooked on planets trying to use arc, and as soon as three people said screw the surge, I’m using solar, we cleared in one attempt. The lack of survival tools in the arc kit across the board really hurts, and the dps/add clear aren’t so much better than arc/void to warrant using it over them.

    Amplified should grant 15-20% damage resistance instead of Speed boost. Speed Boost should give the effect Manticore does where enemies are less accurate while Speed Boost is active. Knockout should give chunks of health instead of starting health regen so you can't have the healing interrupted, and it should refresh. Across the board (besides Gathering Storm) give every arc super at least 10% increased damage

    You mentioned vesper of radius, but I think it’s one of the most slept on exotics. Being able to throw down healing rifts that damage consistently is insanely good for recovery which is arcs primary weakness. I’ve easily used arc warlock the most because of it. I always felt safe, and racked a ton of kiss doing it. I think in Ghost of the deep I did more than 1000 kills on the boss encounter almost every time. Usually my buddy and I two manned it, and he did the puzzle while I add cleared. Rarely if ever died, and constantly had a rift down with an arc soul. The big thing with it is the blind and rift recovery when near enemies.

    Now that ability regen has been nerfed, can we PLEASE revert the nerfs to Touch of Thunder? That raw damage will be a good offset to the terrible survivability of striker titan.

    Arc Titan just is a glass cannon. Zero survival but lots of damage. It’s my least played class for sure.

    Perhaps make it to where ionic traces absorbed during amplified causes a "high voltage" state which supercharges your recovery a la restoration.

    As a veteran warlock main who finds himself gravitating towards chaos reach frequently, through extensive testing, I have found that with geomagstabilizers, and with the artifact mods provided from season of the deep, it was one of the most powerful supers by manner of potential. However, now that those artifact mods are gone, it does like behind needle storm. honestly, it just needs to buff. Also, if I were to do anything, I’d bring back the geomagstabilizers, providing enhanced super regeneration through running, or I would have it so that ionic traces help generate super energy. Otherwise, give it intrinsic ashes to assets or the melee one which I keep forgetting. it needs to have more passive buffs.

    arc hunter in pantheon showed me that it is the best option for top plates as you can punch psions to kill all of them, get massive health back, and run faster

    I've been playing arc on my hunter (which I never really liked it before) in prep for prismatic and have found it to be really nice, the exotics make it really lackluster at times though

    I use chaos Reach warlock in onslaught and it rocks. I just switch out exotics when it's time for the boss room

    As the resident Arc Titan main in my clan, i love everything about Arc. Am I a glass cannon titan? yes, but my loadout weapons make it ok since i can cover almost any distance. Plus, Point Cannon Contact Brace has been the best way to clear waves of enemies to protect territory in pve

    I always thought Arc Blind was supposed to be its endgame debuff on the same power level as Devour and Restoration and Woven Mail keeping you alive. But it's barely there. At this pt. every subclass has some kind of surviveability aspect and Arc is the only one missing that.
    I think Blind should be more prevalent around the kit, more things should apply blind, remove restrictions around needing Special/Arc weapons, etc and Speedbooster should take effect immediately when you sprint, etc.
    I think they were on the right track, they just didn't lean into it hard enough. The Moth build is a good reference for this, it offers surviveability and damage output. A little push and it could be great.

    Arcstrider was my absolute favourite play style before they gave the orb generation mods cooldowns. The extra healing from an orb on every melee kill plus the ability uptime from those same orbs felt so powerful

    By far my favorite subclass, I agree it's missing something and for me it's having more focus on melee combat to be different from other subclasses that are grenade focused. The amplified need to be better and consistent with melee combat, as well as adjusting these issues that someone said in the comments. I wish I could shoot while running like locks when flying.

    I think you really undersell Precious Scars as a healing option for Arc Titan. That thing is nutty in enemy dense areas.

    This is why I miss the season of the deep artifact mods so much. Genuinely the most fun I’ve had in this game in years. I’m an arclock main at heart and i’ll still use my builds regardless of what the mods are, but season of the deep was something special.
    Our supers absolutely need some love though. Nova Bomb and Chaos Reach could do with approx a 10% and 20% buff respectively at minimum. Stormtrance is just too cool not to use, and has actually come in clutch many time during onslaught. But again it also needs some love for general players usage outside of niche encounters.

    You can use your rift to refresh the arc soul timer from getaway artists, so all you have to do is eat your grenade once and keep an eye on the timer
    edit: also idk why everyone loves the punch dodge combo with arc, it's very inconsistent, the melee doesn't do enough damage to kill a lot of redbars especially in higher level content so I find myself either using forbearance or shooting them to get their health low enough to kill them
    Genuinely I don't think arc hunter is that great as far as just abilities go, I typically use forbearance and thunderlord for add clear and orbs with stareater scales, and that works much better

    The fact that you barely mentioned Vesper for stormcaller is utterly criminal. It is easily a top 5 warlock exotic in pve, and maybe even a top 5 exotic in all of pve. The amount of blind that you get with it, and the rift generation with vespers 2nd effect and arc soul creates for one of the most broken exotics in the entire game

    If Bungie kept track of time spent on each subclass then it would undoubtedly say that I spend 90% of my time playing Arc Hunter. It lets me live out my Way of the Open Fist Monk flow-style combat and it's both entertaining and satisfying to be able to punch bosses to death with Combo Blow x3.

    I would very much disagree with the state of striker. Ability uptime pales in comparison to solar, strand, or even stasis. Cuirass also isnt as great as people think. It is extremely situational, doesnt hit due to bugs, requires you to leave dps plates, cant hit out of bounds, and if the stars align and you do damage, it will be equivalent to a base needlestorm. Without cuirass some melee builds will out damage it.
    Aspects are lacking. Knockout lacks any meaningful loop and is outclassed by feedback fragment. It doesn’t refresh and is clunky. Juggernaut is useless in pve, and pales in comparison to void shields in pvp. Takes class ability away.

    Warlock also suffers from the super exotic options , they basically just cut the supers potential in lots of puzzle pieces that you can only choose one piece of

    Arc and stasis need some kind of sustainability/damage reduction verb to be viable on its own outside of pvp or GM content where stuff like restoration and devour won't save you anyways. Sure they've got sustainability OPTIONS but they're all situational unlike the other subclasses that just have something worked into the element. I thought knockout would've been perfect for arc whith a bit of tweaking but they made it a titan aspect.

    The only issue i have with arc titan (as a titan main) is that with how much thundercrash has been slowed down over the years sometimes other players can literally run away from it like slowva bomb(a skill issue i know) but also the fact that even with cuirass of the falling star the damage is kinda ok but falling star adds absolutely nothing to your nuetral game and has to compete with synthos and contacts, and for some reason (as of today5/15/24) thudercrash flies straight through most large targets in onslaught or stops at their face and slides off… so it gets more damage for hutting things with the actual fist… yet cant do it

    My first real experience into Destiny buildcrafting was the Assassins cowl Arc Hunter, so it’ll always hold a special place with me but MAN is Arc overall outpaced by everything now. Probably only as useless by void titan/warlock

    My favorite as well. Problem is there is no way to have sustain or healing. If it gets healing in any way it will never come off my character.

    Arc damage be so good and then you remember how you virtually have no survivability whatsoever (Warlock main). It’s the ultimate glass cannon subclass which I think would be cool if Warlock Arc Supers didn’t kinda suck or were mediocre.

    what bothers me most about arc is that it basically doent have any keywords, it has only three with one being a complete joke and the other two just being weapon perks. So nothig really unique, sure i still love my arc hunter and titan for the great ability uptime and ionic traces are the best elemental pick up outside of tangles but still it feels really beare compared to the other elements

    To me the BIG problem with arc is its only buff, amplify. Yeah you run faster and jump higher, cool. In end game content? Useless, compared to other light buffs like devour, radiant, restoration... I literally can't think about 1 light buff that is worse than amplify. They need to add a base damage reduction while amplified, maybe ramping up while running, but they should do it if they want us to play arc in endgame

    The only thing I’ll criticize is that crown of tempests is straight up better than sun star for solo content if you play aggressive and use your abilities freely.

      It's such a powerful effect that I think they want to limit how much of it you can put out, but there's definitely still some interesting ways to inflict it other than a flashbang.
      Spark of Beacons is really good and surprisingly frequent and easy to trigger (amp'd special arc final blows sounds like a lot, but amplified comes often, and a special like Iterative Loop, Indebted Kindness or Forbearance can kill a lot of enemies). Brilliance is a lot more situational to trigger but it exists.
      Also: Chromatic Fire got an update last year so its elemental explosions also apply subclass verbs, so Chromatic Fire on Arc means blinding explosions on every precision kinetic kill, which is kinda spicy!

    Arc hunter is the most consistent but so damn boring. The whole "dodge, punch" thing gets real boring quick, but any other options are so far behind that youre basically throwing without it. The kit could have been way better off if combination blow was an aspect similar to roaring flames: arc ability kills stack a melee damage boost. It would help tempest strike be a real threat, incentivize and benefit the few grenade builds with a more tangible payout (especially because arc hunter grenade builds are the "small but spammy" kind), and keep the current punch builds intact for people who like them.

    IMO Arc doesn't really fulfil a lot of the fantasy or it isn't just practical in most content. It's very aggressive but doesn't have the slipperiness needed for that kinda playstyle, is heavily dependent on the season, and REALLY drops behind when you get into harder content as your abilities rapidly loose effectiveness. (Hunter main)

    Arc subclasses need a new fragment that give you 50-60HP when picking up Ionic trace (With the minor -10 Recovery to balance it out in pvp). Their current survivability is horrible so having another source of healing should be great and Spark of Resistance also need to be pre-nerf (In PvE only)

      Nah it doesn't even need a -10 Recovery. Ionic Traces are non-existent in PvP for the most part.

    As a Titan anything Arc can do. Forbearance can do while being a better subclass. And the higher difficulty you go. The less useable options for arc there are.

    Arc needs something to buff their weapons. Solar has radiant, Void de-rounds, and arc has nothing, and sucks. After multiple kills or precision hits, we should be able to gain a stack of jolt for the weapons or anything to pump their dmg.

    A major problem with arc is the aspects. Running arclock without electrostatic mind is running half a subclass, there's no reason to ever use another aspect.
    Arc souls also get pretty much all their value from making ionic traces through electrostatic mind
    Knockout and juggernaut on titan are just bad and can't build.
    And on hunter, why woulf I use tempest strike over just combination blow? I can apply jolt just by dodging using lethal current so I'll be able to take out similar amounts of enemies but without losing my melee charge. Meanwhile flow state is the worst kind of aspects, an aspect that should be a fragments intrinsic or at least have 3 fragment slots.

    Despite the power of the dodge/punch combo for Hunters, I much prefer using Disorienting blow for a better neutral game, rather than putting all my eggs in the melee basket

    When you talk about solar will you mention how the solar warlock aspects are expecially bad? Icarus and touch of flame add nothing to buildcrafting and the identity it used to have (healing and burning) is non-existent. Instead the entire identity is now defined by outside things like exotics or eager edge

    I'm very slow and much prefer to be more passive so Arc is the antithesis of my whole being. I don't think I have more than a thousand kills on any of the arc subclasses.

    Frustrates me that arc hunter is hard stuck on a one two punch shotgun, assassins cowl, combo blow for anything past normal strike difficulty. Youre encouraged to move around but without the healing or ivis you just get whittled down while you run until you die, or you have to take cover and wait for everything to come back up. Wasting amplified timers, not getting speed boost benefits etc. i love the concept of disorienting blow and tempest strike but notice how no build ever includes them, theyre barely even mentioned for any real content.

    you ask me arc isnt really a pve class and is a weaker pvp class the reason for this is way arc is built will get you killed in higher end content and it needs buffs to numerous items in pvp including wave frame melee (carefully), movement speed while reflecting on arcstaff, and shinobu

    Arc subclass from a PvE only perspective Bc i dont play pvp.
    Overall i find Arc to be more funner and more viable than Void.
    Hunters: i mean what can i say Hunters on arc are eating well. Lots of exotics to run it with for combos and beefy melee damage. Arc staff fantastic for boss DPS and ad clear. But Arc hunter in GMs and harder content isnt doing well and thats because of Arc hunters need to be in that melee range to do good and being that close to a Ad or yellow bar in a GM no.
    Warlock: haha Arc souls go Brrr. Warlocks Definately my fav Arc subclass out of them all. I love arc warlock the ability up time with Ionic trace and the Arc buddy is a fantastic time. Arc warlock can even do great in GMs. My only thing i wish that Arc warlock had was another buff to Chaos reach's damage towards Champ/Miniboss/boss. Using Chaos reach during a DPS phase actually causes the warlock to lose alot of Damage because of how long Chaos reach lasts. Its better to throw an insta Nova bomb and go back to Shooting rockets than to spend the 4-8 seconds of beaming with Chaos reach.
    Titans: Im not gonna lie Arc Titans are not eating good. Yes i know they have Tcrash with curiess and HOIL. But i really think Arc titans are the weakest out of all the 3. Arc titans dont have much and it feels like Arc titans were specifically made for Pvp. Tcrash is not the best DPS super and the fact that we need an exotic for this to be brought up in damage really hurts it. Arc titans dont even have a good clear thematic identity to it. Hunters are the melee monks, warlock are elemental storms, and titans are what ? Just Fist with lightning i thought hunters do that already and i say that hunters do the melee arc fanasty 10x better than titan does. Alot of Arc specific exotics for titans are also really bad very nieche.
