      Thank you for your video. It's very helpful for me to install GNS3. With your help, I successfully installed GNS3 and VM and successfully linked them together. Then I successfully installed IOL image. However, I didn't get the way to install Cisco ASA firewall from the video. I have ASA 981 firewall image, but I don't know how to install them on GNS3 and run them successfully. Would you please issue another video to explain how GNS3 installs and runs Cisco ASA firewall? Thank you

    Thanks Dave. One of the first issues for anyone starting off with gns3 imo, is the initial install and setup of gns3 can feel like a cumbersome task, as you don’t really know what you’re doing and what to expect. This video makes it quite clear and easy to get set up on gns3. Very informative.

    David ! I want to thank you for the time you take to teach and share your knowledge to your fans ! Seriously! Any advice?

      @davidbombal  5 років тому +2

      Thank you Meglo. Practice. Practice. Practice. That is the best advice I can give you.

    • @scottluebke5012
      @scottluebke5012 3 роки тому

      Subnetting kicked my butt for about 6 years. I intentionally avoided really learning it because it just seemed so confusing. I even earned a Net+, Sec+, and a MCSA in Server 2016 without really learning it. And I earned them clean, no dumps. Then I studied for the CCNA and I decided I was sick on not understanding it, and I finally learned subnetting. I would say that if you study, like really truly study and focus, subnetting, it will click. Right it all out, do the exercises on paper. Learn the formulas for figuring out how many hosts are available in a particular subnet. Learn the tricks for figuring out the first and last IP within a subnet. It takes time, but it's just like math. It's confusing for a long time, then it just clicks and you get it. Once I resolved to finally learning it, I was able to learn it. And on the CCNA, there's no scratch paper or whiteboard. You have to do all subnetting in your head!

    First of all, thank you for the video series. It's amazing and really helpful. It helped me a lot to better understand the nuts and bolts of GNS3 and better design my lab environment.
    I want to take this opportunity and ask you if you heard about the QT GUI issues that some macOS users are having. All of a sudden we can't drag and drop devices into the topology area anymore. I've searched on the user's forum a looks like other folks have the same issue, but we don't have a root cause or fix for this.

      @@davidbombal hmm okay. I saw one of your earlier videos from the same topic where you said that gns3 would only work perfectly if windows firewall and anti-virus is turned off. I have got two different thoughts about how I get this to work.
      The first thought is that I've got gns3 installed on my work laptop which I also use privately. The processor is green at the right side of the gns3 program when it's turned on and it works fine. But when I import gns3 vm into VMware workstation 15 pro it directs me into bios and I don't know what to do afterwards. The checkmark in VMware "Intel vtx" or whatever it's called is ticked on.
      My second thought:
      Again on my work laptop which I also use privately. Create a virtual server through VMware. Install windows gns3 on the first virtual server. Then create another virtual server within the first one with VMware again and on the 2nd virtual server install gns3 vm.
      I don't know what's right and wrong and why I have got these two thoughts. I hope I made somewhat sense so that you can help me as much as you can understand. Thank you in advance boss

      @davidbombal  5 років тому +1

      @@omarb6991 I said to turn off the firewall as part of troubleshooting. You can keep the firewall on and create rules to permit GNS3 (better way to do it as a long term solution). GNS3 gives lots of options. You can do many things with it.

    Hi David, I watched the other video where you guided to install Cisco image from VIRL website. Question is: I’m confused as to when do I need to obtain Cisco image? whereas in this video you were not instructing doing that

    I was checking out your other videos and I got ONE QUESTION: Are you using a Neumann mic!?

      I have used a Neumann TM103 for many of my videos. In this video, I am using a Sennheiser MKH418. But, I will probably go back to my TM103 as I prefer the sound on that.

      David Bombal oooh, that is an AMAZING mic! I started using using a Mojave MA-201fet that has also been pretty nice and worth checking out (if you’re a mic connoisseur). lol

      @@gustavomendez6279 Looks like a cool mic. Do you prefer that to the TM103? I have way too many microphones :)

      David Bombal oh, correction, I meant MA-301fet! And yes, I do! It’s very smooth and not harsh. I’ve used it for recording music but I’ve also used it as a voice mic when my headset failed and it was so much nicer. Fun feature is being able to change the mic pattern. Set up a decent EQ and noisegate and you’re good to go!

    Hi David Bombal
    Hope you are fine. Your videos are very good. Could you start CCIE online Batch for students in future? Because, Your teaching method is very good. If you have not planned for CCIE, then guide me, which CCIE trainner would be beneficial for me. Because, CCIE certification is my Dream. So, I want to achieve this goal in near future.
    Thanks and Regard

      @@davidbombal I am undecided whether to use windows on Mac with VMware and use GNS3, or try to create a lab using VMware and using Kali Linux on one machine and windows on another. What would you do?

    I avoided virtualization by installing linux on WSL (could also be done through Docker, but more complicated). I got a powerful windows desktop where my gns3 server runs natively and I can use it within that desktop or any other thin client :)
