It's a virtual Gold Rush, a race to see who, well, strikes gold and make it big, and in that race people are looking to pull out ahead of the competition and are fighting each other to win the race, so to say. Plus, due to the nature of Vtubers, there are those less savory types that joined the race and uses their avatar as a shield against hate and criticism, which to be discarded when its usefulness has run out, instead of a extension of oneself and as a tool to be used to better the viewer experience. All this makes for an dangerous and cutthroat environment for independent Vtubers, where many people backstabs and schemes to make it out top while leaving the genuine good folks out the spotlight. Without the backings of a Company/Organization(like Holo or Niji) or a collab group, one will struggle to pull out ahead of the pack.
