Circuit Bending a Video Title Generator (VideoTech VTG228)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- I was commissioned to make a music video for a band that wanted text, so clearly had to take the easy route and circuit bent an old VideoTech title generator to give me some crazy effects. In this video I walk through how I approached the bend; how it was different to modifying a video enhancer; and show it in action. I might make some more of these in the future once I tidy up my panels drilling.
I post a whole pile of stuff, including WAV stems of my music; sample packs from my gear; collections of video textures; early access to videos; and a whole pile of other stuff on Patreon. I know I know, I hate doing this as well, but if you like what I do and want to get more of it, while also helping me offset some of my ludicrous gear purchases, this is the best place to do it:

If you just want individual sample packs or downloads of video footage to use in your own projects, get them on Gumroad here: gumroad.com/al...
If you're in the market for new gear, my favourite place to find new and interesting synthesizers and other electronic music gear is Signal Sounds. They are based in Glasgow, but ship all over the place and often have stuff nobody else does. Find them at www.signalsoun... They didn't pay me to say this by the way; they are just genuinely nice folks that I know in person and have consistently good experiences with.
If you're in the US and shop at Perfect Circuit, you can click through to see what they have in stock just now through my custom link. I get a small commission for any purchases made, which keeps me stocked up with whisky and beard oil. link.perfectci...

I want to thank you for trying out and making videos about so much weird, nerdy stuff that I would love to own. Please keep it up!
You can do it! This thing cost me a fiver on eBay to fuck about with!
@@StephenMcLeod What a bargain. Off I go to eBay.
@@Mode-7 I should stop telling people about the mods as it means more competition :D
more ebay competition that is haha
glorious 😤😤😤
Thanks!! I have another one sitting here that I need to bend.
Super dope!
Thanks for watching!!
Love this bending!
I just bought one of these to play with in feedback loops. Any idea how to change the font of the text!?
very cool.
scrolling text over a feedback loop would be interesting to see.
It's on the list! Cheers for watching.
Hey ya thx for sharing ur knowledge 😎😍😎 greetings c ya
Thanks for watching!!
what was the music video. i would like to see the result. if the band wanted to stay private, that's alright too. However: Mindblowing Device
Cheers
I can't remember the exact video I mention in this upload, but if you search - Head Noise - Miracle Mile - that might be it.
Primitive technology: How to make glitchy video effects for an analog horror video! LOLZ!
I do love a bit of horror.
Hey man! A cool thing ive found to do for poking around is soldering multimeter leads to your aligator clips, it speeds things up quite a bit for me
That's a great tip!
hardcore bro, you also got it plugged the device inside your wall?
I do indeed. I'm careful to avoid the power lines so should be grand. Probably not recommended mind you.
Wow, thanks for sharing this!!!
Thanks for watching!
Just picked one of these up love the effects it has.
Looking to circuit bend it, where could I find schematics for it?
And does the scroll function only have the 1 speed? I've pushed everything with shift keys and option keys.
Yeah only one speed I believe. I'm not sure about schematics. It's an easy one to fry so be careful! :)
@@StephenMcLeod Just literally done my first circuit bending extravaganza tonight, on the sima pro edit 3, all went well. Marked all the power using a multimeter as shown in a tutorial and is working nice. Will take it slow until I am more confident cheers
@@sparkstron73 Nicely done! The Sima Pro Edit 3 is a good one to bend.
Nice work!
If the vactrol wsn't working for you, then look into trying out transistor switches. If you can find a power rail to power them, then they will allow you to switch using a jack from your modular.
Thanks for the tip!
@@StephenMcLeod you can use photo transistors too

crappy, sick and crazy cool
That's going to be on my headstone
Nice one mate. :)
Thank you!!
Thanks a lot for sharing your process, this turned out really good! I'm currently trying to get into the magic world of videobending and your videos help a lot :)
Nice one! I'm glad they are useful. Good luck in yer bendy journey!
You have such cool gear. Awesome stuff. And nice bent job, man.
Get into it! This cost less than ten Euros on eBay to mess about with!
@@StephenMcLeod What? That cheap? Oh it's tempting. But I don't have any clue when it comes to circuit bending. Zero. Still looks like a fun addition to my setup tho.
@@vvlvmusic I might end up bending some more for folks to pick up. Watch this space!
This was a fun watch! Thanks! 😀 👊
Thanks man!!
Oh hello there..
howdy
This is great to see, you clearly have an indepth unserstanding, you make it look easy to my nieve self who hasnt circuit bent before. Ive got one of these videotech title generators so will def be referencing your video at some point!
Good luck!! They're tricky to find good bends but fun to play about with.
Great vid! What a psychedelic chyron you have constructed !
What a wonderful turn of phrase! Thank you!
🔥🔥🔥
Thanks a lot!
Ah, nice! I’ve got one of these in the queue for bending. I’m working on a pair of strange Vivancos, and a VEC 1060 (one of the steel cases; a real chore) beforehand. I can’t wait to tear into it. Still watching this video. It’s probably cracking. Thanks for posting.
You’re a brave man for going after this one without tracing out the ground plane!
Just finished the video. Love how it turned out. This will be fantastic in conjunction with your Vivanco. I
Brave or stupid. One of the two. Maybe both?!
What Vivancos are you working on? I've done a few of them now - but need to record videos of them. They are fun to bend, though some of them are a bit harder I think with the more compact cases.
I think you're the brave one going for the 1060. Those cases are wild. Drilling through that is no mean feat ha. The 1070 is similar but plastic... I will probably pick one of them up at some point to test out.
@@StephenMcLeod both the 1060 and 1070. I’m working on a pair of 1060s (incorporating a banana jack field, multi-format Gate/CV inputs, voltage scaling and more). I’ll send you a photo. The first is almost finished.
Coincidentally, I just sent you a PCB shot of the Vivanco MVX about an hour ago. I’m making 2 of those as well. I used a ribbon cable in order to make additional bends or service easier. I’ve got a bunch of Vivanco models in the queue but will probably do some Blaupunkt/Panasonic units first.
@@KentBuchla That sounds awesome!
What a cool machine! Love how you can ad effects real time with no rendering lag, like in a video editing software.
Yeah! It's awesome. I'm pleased with how it came out. Might need to make a few more...
@@StephenMcLeod i could use a video like this, but I don't have that machine...
Great stuff - when is the final video up?
The deadline is the 17th of January I think. Hoping to have it finished by then. They may well of course hate it and decide never to show it to anybody, but still. Haha.
This is so wicked cool and such a fun watch! Looking forward to the video you made for them! 🤘🐀
This has to be really fun for you! I know I'd be locked in and messing with that stuff for hours!
This has to be really fun for you! I know I'd be messing with that stuff for hours lol
Thanks so much man!
that ricoh gr though!
Hell yeah! Love the Ricoh.
@@StephenMcLeod now all we need is a circuit bent gr and my life is complete
@@9billiondogs I am not brave enough to tackle that project!
