HAWKMOON
(written by Alynda Segarra)
In the bus I sleep all day,
In the back I am, uh huh huh.
Everybody wanna know my name,
I give just a sliver to them.
That's the way I've been taught I am.
Any day, Any way,
I drive a fifth before 3pm.
Little girl with a buck knife and a fake ID.
Sleeping bag and a back pack in the big city.
Now tell me why, well don't it look like,
I'm always crying.
You try to hide, when you're high
Baby I know you're lying.
Well it's a hawk moon,
and it's just begun to rise.
Here's a silver spoon,
So you can gouge out both your eyes.
I couldn't believe them when they said
Watch out
I'm becoming the kind of girl
They warned me about.
And you'll never know the way I miss
Miss Jonathan,
She was beaten in the street and then
I never saw her again.
She opened up my mind in the holes of
Her fishnet tights.
Dildo waving on her car antenna,
And I coulda ridden shot gun forever.
She'd say
Oh baby, where do you wanna go?
I know a place no one will ever know.
Well it's a hawk moon,
and it's just begun to rise.
Here's a silver spoon you can eat your heart out
As a prize.
I couldn't believe them when they'd say
Watch out
I'm becoming the kind of girl
They warned me about.

My new favourite song of the year. A day is not complete without listening to this song at least once, or one of the other songs from this album! It's the lyrics, the melody, the imagery - the whole package! I identify with it so much - it really hits close to home for me, and where my life has been. 💗💯💫👏🌛
Sometimes people will say that there's no good music anymore and I say, "There is, every age has good music, but today, you might have to do some digging to find it." Well, this is the good music of this age. This is music that will still sound good to you 30 years from now and when you hear it then, you'll connect it to wherever you are in the universe, right now. It's the music you broke up to or fell in love to or listened to on a long solo road trip through the desert.
Truer words...
@@andrewwalsh8274 what you said!
I agree. This is great.
Exactly, there was a ton of bad music back in the day, it's just mostly forgotten.
I totally agree. I'm 63 and so many people (and even younger) use that lazy phrase. The approach to finding great new music has certainly changed but the payoff to a little exploration has quite a payoff. This song is a great example of that.
Every record by Alynda is indispensable…
UA-cam needs a love button.
I love the "Right hand drive" '59 Edsel.
Listening to this album feels like reuniting with an old friend. Each song is increasingly more nostalgic than the last hitting closer and closer to home. A desperate love letter to our generation to turn to and hold onto each other tighter with each passing moment, because this life is fleeting. Thank you for this beautiful and deep cutting album. 💖
This is so awesome!!!! I visit Tucumcari, NM when I travel Route 66 every year and I love seeing so many familiar landmarks and people. The woman speaking at the end is Lilah from The Palomino Motel which is also featured. I stay here every year and she is just one of the loveliest people I have met on my journey! If you’re planning to visit or pass through Tucumcari stay at The Palomino and chat with Lilah! This song is so good and I love the video!!! 💜✨
As one who calls the desolate deserts home, this song hits in all the right place: sorrow laden lyrics, wonderful guitar and rhythm, a sense of loss, a RHD Edsel (wait, what???), neon lights and Route 66, and glory hallelujah filmed in Tucumcari on the old Mother Road. Now if that does't put polish on your tailfins, you're a lot more lost than ye know...
This came on local radio channel as I was driving. One of those songs you hear and you have to pull over, stop, and just listen.
Played on "Sunday Jukebox" June 9, 2024 ~ BeFM, Busan, South Korea
My new favourite song! The singers vocals are so rich, layered and beautiful!
Wow, I haven't thought about Miss Jonathan In forever. Oh my heart, how did I not know what happened to her? Darlin it has been an honor to watch you grow into the person you are now
F87K I love this song
"Hawkmoon" is currently # 27 on my playlist chart. It has been on my charts for 2 months.
The end of this video gave me serious chills. Wow.
i love your story about Miss Jonathan - I’ve had similar people show up in my life. This song will be an outlet I can use for them as well - thank you. And keep it up, your music always gives me something more than just a good tune. Appreciate it!
incredible. song of the year.
Kutx put me on to this song. Now it’s stuck in my head lol
Just beautiful. Your songs always cut to the heart with love and compassion.
Hawkmoon is an absolutely amazing fantasy book series by Michael Moorcock
Figino Serenza, Italy, last sunday: you gave me a lot of positive energy with your songs, thank you.
I'm pretty sure the diner in this video is the one that I had mozzarella sticks at for the first time while on a road trip with my family in the 90s.
Good ol days!
Not sure bout the mozzarella sticks but this diner is Kix on 66 in Tucumcari New Mexico
Absolutely stunning! Loved it. Loved the whole album.
Oh this is a magnificent song. I love it!
2 measures in and I was hooked. Fantastic. Badass. Genuine.
Come back to Tucumcari any time..... just stay longer and have a concert... You're good
Very Badlands. Love it.

Hell yeah. The video is amazing. But the music... Otherworldy.

👏🏼🙌🏼✌🏼🌗❤🔥
Please remain accessible to the rest of us Poor People. As Warren Zevon once advised "beware the Shithandlers" Regardless, Beautiful.
Magnificient ❤
Wonderful! Thank you Alynda! (By the way, why is the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car? Why is everyone driving on the wrong side of the road? - Is that another layer of symbolism? Mind blown!)
Cellphone imaging? or a genuine UK import Edsel???
@@rbeigh4761 The steering wheel is on the right, it's clear on the shot below the hotel sign. Which means that using stolen licence plates is pointless... "Hey, captain, it's a 1958 Edsel with the wheel on the wrong side... But the tag doesn't match, so it can't be them". But who cares? Great song, great cinematography, I don't think realism was anyone's intention! 😀
Another masterpiece by the amazing lyricist that Alynda is. So stoked for the album
Gorgeous 🥰🎥💕✨
🖤🖤🖤
Please can someone write here what Lilah says at the end of the video ? Thank you from Italy
Cool ⚡⚡⚡
Hearing a lot of Runaway Train on this one
🪷🪷🪷🪷🪷
kiss her
Pa’lante
this song glorifies smashing car windows with golf clubs and I'm not sure how I feel about that.
Good song, but it feels like some wasted potential. It builds and builds then never really "kicks in".
Please add NM to the tour🥹
I strongly recommend for everyone to read the caption💙🤍💗
do you mean the lyrics? I can't tell if I missed a caption. thanks ❤
@@anytreeinbloom oh no, they must have changed it, :( there were this whole story about the person who inspired the song!
