  • Its been slim pickins at the junkyards lately so I decided to check out the auction again. This 1993 #bubblechevy #capricewagon was among the few classics that were on the lot.

$1700 is a good deal, I would've taken it. I had a '92 Roadmaster Wagon, and before that a '76 Caprice Estate. I loved those wagons - they weren't rockets, but they sure made running multiple errands easier and fun. If you had young children, if they were big enough, they could sit in the rear facing seat and wave at other drivers (but not now, too many people have rage issues and might get mad at kids making silly faces and hit the car). Yeah, those were the days.

A 76 had a frontward facing 3rd seat. Kind of a weird narrow seat between the wheel wells with a hump in the middle for differential clearance. The "metric" 77-up had the rear facing seats you're thinking of.

Been a long time since I've seen one of these Chevrolet Caprice Classic wagons & sedans. I remember them when new.

Since about 11 or 12 years old i had been studying consumer guide books and my hobby was waiting to spot the first new ir refreshed model on the road as seen in the book. I still remember when i saw a 91 caprice, late summer 1990

Nice wagon, hopefully it doesn't end up in a Demo Derby. Thank you Benny

These are not that desirable for a demo car. The frames seem to want to fold down and drag the ground.

Awesome car. In the rust-belt of North East U.S.A., these cars were extinct by 2010. Glad to see a classic survive..

The 1977-1996 GM B-Body platform is the best all around car. The early square bodies are the best. But the LT1 engine in my 1996 Buick Roadmaster sedan is pretty good. I really want to swap it into an older B-Body though. They just look so much better in my opinion. I wish my Buick had cloth seats. Leather seats suck.

93 is a good year, all wagons started coming standard with 5.7 LO5. Sedans got the open rear wheel well that most people prefer.

I wonder why Cadillac never made one.... Roadmaster is close but still not a Cadillac Fleetwood.... Damn near the same look on those front ends. A Cadillac Fleetwood station wagon would be awesome 😎

Better call the cops Benny, someone *STOLE* this Caprice for that price! In this day & age, $1700 is a good deal for a car in decent cosmetic condition.
Wouldn't take much to get her to run right. Most of your investment would be focused on the AC. After that, ROAD TRIP time!!!

Whoa Nelley, a bubble that may turn to rubble.....
This was the last year of the "rounded wheelhouse" B body. 1994-1996 were straight and could also had the LT1 (or the 4.3 VIN code "W" V8). 1993 is the last year for TBI engines. The 1994-1996 versions spawned the Impala SS which was pretty much a police spec hot rod. The LT1 equipped cars were absolute rockets and they can really haul ass with style. So, here we go from the top:
We got the VIN, we win: 1G1 for US made Chevrolet, BL for Caprice/Caprice wagon, 8 for four door wagon, 3 for driver's airbag and manual seat belts, 7 for 5.7L (350) V8 with throttle body injection, aka RPO code "L05", 8 is a check digit, P for the 1993 model year, W for Willow Run, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Willow Run plant was located at 2625 Tyler Road and operated from 1959 to July 1993. It was a parts distribution center for GM for a time after that. This style Caprice was the last product assembled there and then it moved to Arlington, TX after that which was the sole plant that made them after the 1993 model year and through the end in 1996. Transmission should be the RPO code "MD8" THM700R4 four speed overdrive automatic.
No tag, can't brag. No SPID, wish you did. Paint is code 40/WA8554 White exterior paint.
Whoa Nelley, RPO code "L05" took a nosedive. "Bubble" could be in a lot of trouble. We got the VIN and we win. We didn't get the tag and we can't brag. No SPID, because it was probably hid. B body looking a bit shoddy. Made in Willow Run and could be done. Paint code 40 and may have to go. TBI and maybe going bye-bye. Body of "B" it may be over for thee. Could be flat and that would be that. That might be it and could be time to quit. Please don't get squished because the B body faithful, many here, Benny included and surely the Google Man would be very, very, very, very, very, very, very pissed.

When I went to college they had one of these, a 91-93 with the TBI, as a donated car from GM. Not sure what was wrong with it, no obvious damage. By the time I got there it ran poorly because it just sat most of the time. OBD-1 was already obsolete so they didn't spend much time on it.
I just remember being surprised it was a TBI and not port injection of some sort.

@@googleusergp Well there's nothing wrong with the TBI per se, simple, reliable, they'll go 300K or more. They're just not that powerful.
