I have a 19 batch and fortunately it’s considered to be a more smokey batch. I prefer those and enjoy it. I’d get a older one, but no way in hell I’m paying the prices the fanboys want.

The proprietary musk is a captive form of Helvetolide (dextro-Helvetolide) and was/is only available to a select few. Helvetolide is a popular modern musk that has impact as a top note, creamy, pear/apple fruity now very popular.

Thanks: I just bought a 1.7 oz. vintage bottle of Gatsby. I paused the video, checked its Fragrantica page, looked for it, found it, bought it. I love the idea of a honey accord as most dominant.

Honestly, after trying a few Aventus clones/inspired frags. I still prefer Aventus. I've never smelled the older batches, but people I trust say it's been watered down. Thing is I still find I prefer the "watered down" current version over other brands take on this DNA. It's nice, but I don't think it's the king of frags. I can understand the hype. The way people feel about Aventus is how I used to feel about Oud Wood. It was the best thing I had ever smelled. Of course that changed after I smelled more exclusive designer and niche fragrances. There's always something better if you go looking for it. That's why I barely own any full bottles. I know no matter how much I love it at first, I'll grow tired of it and go searching for something more "interesting".

Ramsey just wanted to let you know that the new F batches of Aventus finally fixed its lackluster longevity. I might get Aventus now 🤔

I got a flacon and a bunch of bottles, yes all before ‘18. Practically got a liter in total- Totally normal. Love Aventus, give a damn what the batch zealots, counter hype haters and whoever else thinks about it.
Yes it is a special fragrance for me too... for some reason though lately I havent loved it like I did in the past 🤷♂️
These things go in cycles ... I could wear it next year and could feel its the greatest perfume ever again! 😂

I got to say that i love Creed. Its my favorite brand, but now i only buy vintage till 2016 prodcution year.
Regarding Aventus. I smelled fornthe first time in 2022. Was a 2020-2021 batch ...nothing special and weak. However has high quality ingredients compared to Explorer.
Now i got a 2016 bottle very spicy , not so fruity.
I also have a 2014 bottle with old gen atomizer and you know what is a fruity vanilla heavy with no smoke or woods. But soo sweet...
This year 2024 i got an original creed aventus sample batch 11x02:
Its a different fragrance, totally. The smoke its like real and its creamy pineapple smoke and vanilla....real niche, even today people will say wow.

I'll post separately on Creed. I have a bunch of Creeds. I've read the book The Ghost Perfumer, and was surprised that the rumors were true. I thought it would be too big a risk, but it looks like Olivier Creed took that risk. I wonder what and how he informed Blackrock of the falsities. Anyway, Creed fragrances themselves. I cannot at all compare modern with vintage, as all of mine, with the exception of a decant of Green Valley and a decant of Chevrefeuille, are modern. But my modern juice SMELLS natural to me, the most natural of all of my fragrances. So if the vintage juices are that much better they must have been something else.
P.S. I was in the Las Vegas Creed boutique (Ceasars Palace) last weekend and there are rumors of a Green Valley re-release. The Sales Associate took me into a plush back room with Creed bottles in display cases. He pointed out a bottle of Green Valley he said was in its "new packaging". He didn't have a lot of details. He let me take a photo and I posted it on Fragrantica Fragram, along with the story. Go check it out.

I still wouldnt buy it because the brand lost my trust long ago even though that is one of the creeds I would pay 4 or 5 hundred bucks a botrle if I could find the vintage... but very interesting! I have 5 bottles of Aventus from different years. 2014 Smokey batch. 2016 vanilla heavy. 2018 citrusy heavy bergamot batch. 2021 Fruity Pineapple heavy batch. 2022 metal cap balanced Smokey birch. They all last long on me even if I don’t smell it at times. It’ll be the 6-7th hour and ppl would compliment me. Sorry to hear about the Flacon. I never bothered to get one due to the ugly bottle imo. Keep in mind that IFRA has killed it for many fragrances having them to Reformulate them.

I have 18K11 batch from 2018, its not citrusy at all. Its pineapple and black currant heavy mixed with vanilla and oakmoss.
Aventus used to wow me every time I wore it back in 2015/16. Still a great fragrance but I don't feel the same about it and rarely reach for it.

Interesting video and cool channel, here are some thoughts on these topics. I own several Creeds, and they're all "vintage"; most recent is 2016, I have a 2013 Himalaya, and 2010 Royal Water, and a rare 1997-2003 Erolfa. As for Aventus, I ended up with a 2017 batch I'm satisfied with. Admittedly, I've owned several different years of Aventus, but none past the late 2019 official refomulation. The original interpretation of Aventus is long dead, and I would argue it's not all Creed's fault. Aventus has only two officially documented reformulations: late 2013 when they removed most of the cade oil content, which is used to produce the birch note. And in 2019 when they were forced to remove lyral, which is used to produce jasmine. There have also been oakmoss bans, patchouli price hauls, and possibly other ingredient issues that resulted in Aventus losing steam in its profile. Make no mistake, the batch variation is true. Where Aventus falls is in its reformulations and the woes that has brung to the market. Also, real ambergris is not allowed by IFRA, it's a musk/ambroxan accord as another user pointed out. Herault brought over the special ambroxan and Creed used their special musk (Helvetolide) to create Aventus. No Creeds are worth retail right now. It's sad, but I still find joy in their older stuff.
Thanks for comment mate... I like their their older stuff too... its unfortunate but niche pricing is out of control... I would rather wear Royal English Leather or Acier Aluminum (the old grey caps) over any modern creed like Viking or Aventus Cologne🤷♂️
They might be using the low grade Ambergris tincture, you may never know. But its definitely not Ambroxan they are using.
Hello Ramsey, this is one of the most detailed talk on Aventus. Nobody has ever given so much clarity on Aventus, especially describing the scent structure perfectly. To my nose mid aventus smells like black currant ice cream to my nose, lol. The drydown smells like OAKMOSS mixed with Ambergris and Musk.. In the background that fruity is still there far away. Let me know if you get this too.. :)
Yes I could see that... i also know that they used a new type of musk that was very expensive in 2010 and made cloning the scent structure a huge barrier to entry
Also my Aventus lasts very poor & scent gone in 4-5 hours on clothes, does it get better as it matures??.. I read it lasts a long time after it matures.
@@RamseytheRam Thats interesting, wonder if it was a black musk or a white musk. Probably white.. And I'm assuming they use the low quality black Ambergris Tincture. This is also used by Acqua di Parma in their Colonia Ambra.

I've never tried any Creed fragrances! Returning to having more than a few bottles of fragrances that I like and some I would wear as a signature. I came via the wet shave community and again vintage is revered for equipment, soaps and aftershaves. A few channels branched out to include some present day fragrances and of course Aventus was held in high regard. Not one to follow the mainstream I virtually stumbled across vintage fragrances many of which I used to wear and love.
I get where you're coming from here, I'd say the same thing about certain fragrances but as you know with fragrances they have a funny way of calling you back. In fact yesterday I was questioning myself on what I was wearing and kept sniffing my arm as it was unpleasant but nice! I thought to myself I would never have worn this in the past but I'm fascinated by it now, just like Aromatics Elixir or Cabochard I've smelled those over the years on others and thoroughly hated it....now I find I can't get enough of it, it's like a hit.
I am still in awe what happened the other day re: Russian Adam interview, I've re- watched it, there's so much to take from that. I was listening to Bodega yesterday 'How did this Happen?' the title seemed so appropriate! Really appreciate your honesty here, fortunately we live in an age where from the comfort of your home you can offload anything unwanted.

Same experience with the presentation 🤦♂ Bought a new bottle of Royal Oud and the sticker came half peeled off lol. Ended up sticking it on the inside of my watch case to serve as a reminder... snagged a 120ml bottle and the difference in quality is actually saddening. As always, appreciate your honesty and spreading the good word on fragrance, cheers!

Your opinion is spot on! I bought a 100ml bottle of a 2018 batch of Aventus for full retail in a fancy shop. It’s nice and citrusy but by the time I’m out of the house, my date can’t smell anything on me (not joking, it happened to me). On that same day I walked into a clone shop and asked to try their ‘inspired by’ Aventus and that was finally the day I ‘got’ it. It smelled complex and smokey, lasted a long time on my skin and had little to do with my juice. I got to experience Aventus from a cheap clone and not from the one I gave Creed my money for!
I ended up buying Green Irish Tweed later and I’m happy to say it was still phenomenal. As for my bottle of Aventus, it is just useless. I can’t imagine how pissed I would be if I had gotten a flacon like you did!

I got my Absolu Aventus in and wanted to see if you had reviewed it yet. UA-cam treated me to this! Like you, my first was a 2012. I had a 2015, 17 and just recently I got a brand new batch on the super cheap. I’ll tell you…the new batch was very similar to my 2015. I felt 2017 was the end of it for me, as I thought it was way worse than my 15, but I’m glad I revisited it.

@@RamseytheRam you won’t love Absolu. I got it for collecting purposes at a deep discount. It smells great, because Aventus smells great, but it’s nothing new and it’s overpriced.
Today you can buy a modern Aventus for 220 dollar's and not for 500, there are also excellent batches from 2019 I even prefer them more than 2016 and 2015, Modern Aventus is much more fresh and light, Some people like it even more than vintage

@@RamseytheRam With batches like - 19s21, 19s31, 21s01 I get a lot more compliments than 15x01, 16h01, I have 10 bottles of Aventus from all kinds of years, today there are also some great Batches

You explained this perfectly! In my eyes I feel the same way you do. I will never pay for a Creed Frag again.. after my first 3 bottles of Aventus I got in 2011 was used up I got a 2015 batch and I was pissed. It didn’t smell the same at all n was much weaker and is even worse now n cost a ridiculous amount of money for the quality. When I got my first 3 bottle it was $125 to $150 for a 4oz bottle n now it’s $300 to $500 for a 3.3oz bottle absolutely insulting! You hit the mark on this video. I couldn’t agree more with you. Great video. I have CDNIM EDP and I’m happy enough with that when I want to smell like the Creed Aventus I remember.

Edit: Also, I have two bottles of Aventus from 2016 (16A01 & 16F01) and one from 2017 (17N01) and even those I don't care about. I haven't been spraying them much often because I've been reach for SMW and VIW. One day, I MIGHT sell it just to get rid of it. However, I'm still trying to give it more chances to shine.

I have a 19 batch but quite honestly prefer Loewe Esencia EDP (recent discovery). Something about it makes it more rounded and dare I say it ‘mature’.
Never smelled that EDP but I love the EDT

I have only 2020 batch of Aventus, and it's just for my collection.
Amouage fragrances are stronger and deeper, just like Enigma and Diaghilev by Roja, and some Frédéric Malle. fragrances.
When you develop your nose and some parts in your brain, after years of wearing fragrances, only one thing matters for buying niche and Indies ; who is the nose behing art perfumes.
That is the main reason why Guerlain (for example) house is so famous.

The 11X02 is the greatest scent I've ever smelled. Super niche (nothing smelled like it back then), monstrous performance, and an absolute panty dropper. It was worth every penny back then.
I never owned a 2011 bottle but I had a decant from that batch... dont know of it was really a decant from the batch or if the guy was BS'ing me but I remember the Red Apple note being really amped up ... my first aventus bottle was in 2012 😁

Creed sent me an official sample from 2022... Montblancs version is dead on... having said that, I smelled Aventus for the first time in 2014 and took a sample, about ten sprays...which I used up in about 3 days...I never understood the hype.
I love the old stuff ... it just worked for me I still 3 good sized bottles left from 2015 2016 & 2017... once they are gone I will never buy another one though... Creed lost me with their Shenanigans 😂😂😂
I wish I could appreciate Kouros the same way you do. I just have a strong scent association with it that reminds me of a urinal cake in a rundown gas station. I feel this is also why a lot of normal people don’t appreciate lemony scents because it just reminds them of house cleaner.
Man Kouros was an instant love for me... it might be one of those growers for you ... give it 6 months and revisit it... explore it all the way through the drydown... on skin of course 🙂

Ever since it took off in popularity, I've honestly been a bit self-conscious to wear it. I suppose it's like that with any popular item or fad. Whether or not you're recognized as wearing the original or a clone, it's like branding yourself as a follower, wannabe, band-wagon jumper or poser - even if you were wearing it long before it became popular. It seems to ruin social dynamics by broadcasting impetuous pressumptions or expectations. Personally I enjoy the scent, but not as much as Spice and Wood, which I consider to be more refined. The white collar to the blue collared Aventus. As for clones, I still find myself reaching for Matar from Spirit of Kings once in a while. But I've honestly recieved more notice with Amouage fragrances.
Yes thats a fantastic point... I guess I felt that without realizing I felt it...its interesting but you summed it up beautifully... especially for a contrarian like me... its a nightmare swimming with the other fishes 😂😂😂
i smelled a few Aventus clones before i ever smelled the original, which i never have nor now have any interest in owning. i do have a few perfumes that are often referred to as being inspired by Avnetus, of which my favorite is absolutely "Orion" by Tiziana Terenzi - which i do NOT consider a clone; and whether it was it inspired by Aventus or not, you'd need to ask its nose Paolo Terenzi from 2015. i find that Orion has what Aventus doesn't, a spine! Orion has a spine of woods and oud, providing structure, strength, and significance. i'll leave any further details up to formal reviews of either/or both perfumes. thanks for this video presentation, Ramsey, i thoroughly enjoyed it.

Appreciated the the thoughts/facts about Aventus and Creed...Ramz, in your opinion, was kreed guilty of more "story spinning" before aventus or after?
I dont think the aventus hit changed their SOP... the Creeds did lots of story spinning to get the brand off the ground etc....I think Aventus was just a hit they werent expecting and it blew up the brand so much they couldnt hide anymore 🤷♂️
I had bought a 25ml decent in early 2018 of aventus and I liked it but I didn't love it enough to buy a whole bottle. I finished the decant around 2020ish and never smelled it again until today. Bought a 10ml decant of a new batch and holy shit... I thought these batch guys must be exaggerating but nope. Modern aventus is just a shell of it's former self. The birch note is all wrong, it's not even the same ingredient in my opinion. It smells very cheap and I just now remembered what it reminded me of and that is Nuit d’Isseys smokey leather note. I can't get over how poor this smells compared to the original batch I purchased.
The batch guys are can come across as crazy but many of them are spot on 😂😂😂
Fabulous thoughts on the house of Creed ,and the reign and demise of the King ,totally brilliant and non,negotiable tell is as it is point of fact. That said I really do like Aventus,not gonna lie ,however I first sniffed it when a manager I worked under in 2019 gifted me a 15 ml decant from his bottle bought for him by his wife to be on their wedding day ,now I was a newbie to the hobby then so I was unaware really of the history or hype surrounding Aventus .Stay with me Rams I will cut to the chase lol 😝. So dating this it a little tricky because my manager moved on in 2020 and I never asked him about batch code cause he isn’t a fragrance guy anyways,and I didn’t know about Aventus,however in 2019 his eldest child was 6 years old so if she was born in the same year ,later end of his wedding day it would be a 2013 batch at the latest even earlier if she was born a year or two after the wedding date ,fascinating stuff.So I got spoiled on vintage Aventus from the get go haha 😂,so I did buy a 50 ml 2018 bottles last year for a song, to see the difference between them and yes indeed the vibe is there opening really good and then alas it pales beside my 15ml origin unknown decant .Sorry for the War and Peace length comment (love that ALD fragrance) just thought it an interesting bit of my fragrance trivia have a great day R ,oh did ya catch Rich’s short,Duck in A Cup so goddam cute lol 🙏✌️

@@RamseytheRam 100%, but both 19s I have in 500ml flacons and haven't used apart from opening every 5 or 6 months to let them breathe and I can tell they have matured well too, gone heaps Darker and the smell from the bottle appears a lot richer and deeper.
I also had a 19U11 in a 100ml that I have finished and you couldn't compare thst to the older batches for longevity or scent.

@@RamseytheRam in Australia my 15Q1 is the grail of grails but I my favourite from mine is the 14H01, love the stuff plus it lasts literally 50% longer then the next best one, which would be the 16E01, this batch is unique as it has a licorice note
The bottle I have that has about 5ml left is 14M01 .. and it is really good :)

Shit, I forgot I have a 50 ml decant of this I got back in 2015/16.
I think I got it with Royal Oud and my favorite, GIT, and I think VIW.
Was going through some of my Creed samples, I only have two 2014 samples left of Aventus.
I also was going through my Parfums vintage samples. They've seemed to have evaporated some.
I'm going to give some away to a person at work.
He was wearing Club de Niut. That's gotta have that fresh ambroxan in there.
I gave him what was left of a decant of an Aventus 2014.
Ramsey, I have way too many samples. I must have over 40 5ml samples just from The Decant Shop.
OK, let's put these samples back. Keeping Parfums Vintage out. Use them up and give some away.
Oh look, a bunch of Lubin samples from LuckyScent when they were pushing them in 2017.
What's Cherrefeuille from Creed? I have a sample of that. Well, let's put that back in the Creed bag o samples.
OK, just looked through the decants and the 4 Creed's are still intact.
Sadly though, some of my travel sprays and a couple decants have evaporated some.
I noticed my decants of Aceir Aluminum and Original Vetiver smelled like this wonderful tobacco?
Kinda like Back to Black. Well, there's a reason for that. That decant had some evap.

Never smelled it but I avoid anything new from Creed....for me Creed doesnt exist after 2017 batches

Elysium is weak af. If Aventus is weak, then moreso Elysium, and it's more pricey.
to me, these perfume houses are just making dupes of their original scents furthermore should not be selling these dupes with their original names.
