I do like it already (mainly because I'm masochistic and super difficult stuff like this gets me going), but being able to pogo his spikes would make me enjoy it even more. Use the reach of the great slash to hit him outside of the shield's reach then shadow dash through any floating nails he shoots. The stop in mid air allows you to choose the direction you want to escape in. Alternatively, the dash slash can hit from the other side of the room, although it is harder to hit and leaves you without a dash to avoid the flying nails and get back to the (relative safety) of a platform. Save soul in the first faze and equip shaman stone to absolutely destroy his ass with spells in the second phase (if there is excess soul, fire off a vengeful spirt or 2)After however many nail arts, he pauses mid air and begins to spin his shield. You need to hit him in this intermission. After this, because of the increased nail spawn, focus on dodging the nails and his shields. When he pauses to spin his shield, fire a vengeful spirt from a distance, then get closer and abyss shriek his 2 times. If you can get 1-2 nail hits in. Dodge until he spins again, then repeat. I’ve learned from playing this fight for over 50 hours that the best strategy is patience, and doing a single dash slash every time he begins the spinning shield attack as well as when he is about to finish it. I like this because it ignores the annoying shield while trying to pogo and trying to attack whilst being surrounded by constant swords. It feels as though the least RNG based thing in this fight is the swords, so I made a technique to avoid the swords while waiting for him to do his shield spin attack. Pick only 2 platforms. Stay on one and try to move ever so slightly to dodge the swords by the skin of your teeth. I feel like this is the easiest method considering how spastic you can be moving along 5 platforms avoiding swords, Markoth, the shield, more swords, and more swords. The reason you should pick two platforms is for an escape route for when Markoth decides to be a bitch and elegantly float toward the platform your meditating on to unlock your chakra points. So what you do is when you think he’s coming do whatever it takes to get to that second platform. Double jump, shadow dash, crystal dash, pogoing, wall jumping, anything. I prefer the top 2 platforms since I don’t have to worry about above me and I have 3 other platforms to fall on beneath me just in case I fuck up (Which is almost always) If you can guarantee a great slash/dash slash when dodging the swords, go for it. But if not, just wait it out. Try to get a rhythm of the swords. The distance between you an the swords is (Almost) always the same. If you traverse platforms, this won’t be the case. As it will spawn whilst moving. I’ve literally had a sword spawn inside my character. Luckily, this strategy also works on phase 2. You just have to have a better reaction time and rhythm to avoid the swords.
First confident PoH I attempted ended with Markoth drifting off the side of the screen. I swear to god, the world had never felt louder than that single moment.
Its kinda cool how he's the only Moth Tribe member you actually fight. Makes you wonder how tough they and the Radiance were in their prime. Must have been why the Pale King settled for converting them
I really felt the part where you are listlessly swatting at thin air and markoth is chilling a few pixels below nail range. Markoth is the true final boss of P5 for me.
Nail arts are the most consistent way of doing damage. Dash slash has enough reach that you can hit through the shield safely, and great slash has so much area that you can somewhat safely attack markoth with it, although this does not surpass the shield. A little trick is not using spells during the first phase at all, while attacking only with pogos (you can always connect at least two or three when the fight begins) and then nail arts. The second shield is not summoned until he has 50% hp or less (475hp), so hitting him with 5 regular attacks and 7 nail arts maximices damage (527,5 hp) before activating the second phase of the fight. Then you can dodge the nails he throws at you, and when he does the shield spinning, unleash the pain and hit him with shade souls. You will need a total of 10 shade soul hits to take markoth down at that point, so multi hitting is key, and that’s why you wait until he does the shield spinning, to guarantee he gets hit multiple times (if the rng doesn’t help and markoth does his attack next to a wall, wait p, dodge the attack phase agains and repeat until you get a good position). That’s how I did radiant. For charm build, there are two viable options (those which I have won) for me. A combination of strength, nail master’s glory, shaman stone and soul eater, with either spell twister or mark of pride. Mark makes doing the pogos safer and the first phase of the fight overall, pretty easy, as the riskiest part are the pogos thanks to the nail arts range. But with it you can only cast 5 shade souls with the soul gathered, making obligatory at least 2 hits per spell, and possibly forcing you to dodge three or more attack phases. Spell twister on the other hand makes the beginning harder, as you have to get closer to markoth to connect the attacks, but at the second phase you will have soul for 7 spells, making it so much easier, and only forcing you to connect 3 double hitting shade souls or just one, and another that hits thrice. For me, spell twister is the way to go. Hope to be helpful although I am late. Also, sorry for any miss spelling or mistakes in general, English is not my first language. Hope this comment is useful to at least one person who is struggling to defeat radiant markoth :)
Nail arts get through the shield! You know, those things that leave you open for half a second and get rid of your dash so nine times out of ten you just fall helplessly into the void anyway, because you either can't consistently wall-jump off the platforms or bonk your head on their underside. (which is all doubly-fun after the 50% hp mark, of course)
Well he now has one weakness The meme charm note: I've started just started playing hollow knight haven't finished yet(just getting lost in a bunch of fungi and waste) so of course i haven't learned much about alot the charms aside from the ones i could afford cause i keep dying in other words im a noob
This deserves way more views, the comedy and editing really show how much time and effort you have put into this which 18000 views and 7.6k subs doesn't justify. Although I feel kinda guilty laughing at your pain...
I remember I counted how many great slashes it got to make him go into the second phase so that I could do so in a good position in order for me to melt him with vengeful spirits and yes, great slashes *do* go through the shield. However I also remember suffering in every single possible way. Btw, I consider radiant radiance to be harder than radiant markoth, but he really deserves that second place right above Pure Vessel (or the Obblobbles, believe me, they are just as bad as markoth if you remove his shield and the platforms and put a big damn floor)
Windette’s strategy: realize you can use Elegy to bypass the shield and attack from a safe distance, elegantly solving the biggest problem My strategy: go onto the wiki to see exactly how much health he has in phase two of Radiant mode, check the damage value of Shade Soul with Shaman Stone modifier. Calculate how many hits required to completely take out the second half of his health bar, then calculate how many casts possible with a full Soul bar and Spell Twister, then find the difference to determine the number of multi hits needed. Lastly go into the first phase after having memorized all the starting positions and rotations of the shield to get as much damage in early and then play super passively until reaching phase two. Then focus entirely on dodging, only attacking when Markoth attacks with Shield, making sure to count each multi hit and not cast when he’s near a platform. All to avoid interacting with his phase two since it’s so fcking hard.
You forgot to mention when his swords spawn literally where you're dashing or jumping, also how depending on your location his swords can spawn pretty much behind walls and in your blindspot. Actually, this is one of the only design flaws i really dislike in the game, it's like that bee attack that the hive knight uses and you have to squint real hard to see the freakin bees or how you can't see when your void dash is back up against pure vessel because the whole background is dark and there are some chains that show up in front of your character.
Nail arts are also great in this fight. A well-timed great slash or dash slash can get past the shield due to them being even larger than longnail+mark of pride
@Yunkai Shi i think the reason why he could do it in PoH is because the damage is returned to 1 but if you actually do the fight in hall of gods prepare to have fear
@@vernbaa ayo he said all binding, and the shell one is almost an acended fight since you take the same amount of hits to die, the only diference is markoth's health
Its harder to do markoth with all bindings PoH than ascended. You can take 1 less hit, no charms, less damage and basically no soul capacity. So he basically takes more hits to kill in PoH, plus u can only take 4 hits instead of 5 sooo... Seems legit
During phase 1, focus entirely on dodging his primary attack and don’t go in for nail strikes unless there is a clear opportunity. During his shield cyclone, wait for the shield to orbit him twice and squeeze in to get 4-5 good pogos. Shadow dash away. Do not use spells or heal. During phase 2, look for openings to blast him with shade soul. Spell twister will help a lot here. Once you’re out of soul, your window to hit him will be very slim so be extremely careful and pray you get enough chances.
radiant NKG isn't that hard (or it wasn't for me) by the time I was killing him ascended I pretty much had his attack patterns down perfectly, and it only took me like 2 more tries to radiant the fight
Here’s a strategy I made for it a while ago when I was grinding radiant *Ahem* For charms I used, •Unbreakable Strength •Mark of Pride •Shaman Stone •Spell Twister •Soul Catcher Your goal is to basically get him to half health and then spam spells the second you can once he’s there so you dont even have to deal with his second phase Go for individual one or two nail hits rather than nail arts, you get more soul this way, and his attacks aren’t as bad to dodge during the first phase (not to say its easy, just, not as hard as his second phase) At the beginning of the fight when he’s first spawning in quickly get over to him and get a pogo or two in while he spawns When the fight starts there are a number of ways that he can move, he can move in any diagonal direction and his sheild will either move left or right to start, I’ve found that the best runs come from him moving diagonal up and left, while having his sheild go right, this allows you to get anywhere between four to six pogos in at the start of the fight before having to worry about dodging As for dodging his attacks, realize that your limited mobility, the poorly placed platforms, and the rotating sheild are a greater threat than the nails he summon ever were, be as careful as possible with your movements and make sure not to dash into any of the platforms walls Keep track of your shade cloak, it is your life line in almost any situation When he starts to do his sheild spin attack thingy, wait for it to go around him twice, it will the start actually moving away from him and you can go in and pogo him or whatever, it’s usually safest to go for two hits before getting away with shade cloak but depending on how fast you got to him and what your position is you can get a few more hits in. Keep that up for the entirety of the first phase, you can track his health by keeping note of your own soul, once your soul reaches the full 99, two full 33’s, and ~2/3rd full on your last mini soul bubble, he’ll enter his second phase Stop hitting him just before reaching 2/3rds, you want to wait until he does his sheild spin to get a few extra hits in before he gets his second sheild. Once he reaches his second phase, focus on dodging by bouncing of the wall and moving up and down the side platforms while as far away from him as safetly possible, wait for him to do another sheild attack, and then spam shade soul on him and pray he dies. *This whole strat requires an insane amount of luck and you are going to have to make possibly hundreds of attempts to get used to his attacks before you even get passed his first phase.
How I, someone who died to Soul Warrior 100+ times, actually managed to beat ascended Markoth is a miracle. I’ll NEVER attempt to beat him in radiant though. For any other boss even include abs rad I could still possibly make it to the second or stair climbing phase, but I swear I’m going to die in 10 secs if I ever attempted radiant Markoth.

I actually quite like this fight on ascended after doing it on radiant. I’m having far, far more trouble with Radiant Absrad than with Markoth. Markoth took like 4 hours and I’m already 10 hours in on Absrad. Great slash is the way to go
It took me a bit more, but yeah, great slash + dash slash on the first phase and spells on the second phase helped me to beat him. But still, even absrad took me less attempts.
@@loganxavier Great slash works better for me cause with dash slash you are more likely to miscalculate and run right into him or his shield. With great slash you just gotta kinda hop around him and strike when there's an opening

While I think a large chunk of these bosses have readable patterns that take time and patience, there are some here that are just not designed well. Especially for radiance difficulty. The absolute Radiance *is* the Radiance in her prime
I really felt the part where you are listlessly swatting at thin air and markoth is chilling a few pixels below nail range. Markoth is the true final boss of P5 for me.
I love how he’s constantly insulting me but that “sit there, look pretty” actually made me blush lmao
But your not Markoth?
@@Nopenguin4875 no no I was referring to his other series, “(insert Hk place) explained with insults” in which he frequently insults the viewer.
Hope this comment is useful to at least one person who is struggling to defeat radiant markoth :)
such a complete and helpful comment ! thank you so much that's sure will help !
i fucking forgot nail arts existed
'English is not my first language' He says before cooking up a masterpiece of english literature
@@donkekung4150i swear it's always the people who are self-conscious about their english that manage to cook up masterpieces like this
the build i did was using nailmasters glory for his first phase then using the soul i got to completely skip the second phase
I had a lot of fun with Markoth, because my only gaming skill is being nearly unable to play with a pattern
This speaks to me on a deep, personnal level
You’ve turned my angry inner ramblings over obscure inconveniences into video form
Moths are cruel, little ghost. And i'm VERY in touch with my inner light.
Well he now has one weakness
The meme charm
note: I've started just started playing hollow knight haven't finished yet(just getting lost in a bunch of fungi and waste) so of course i haven't learned much about alot the charms aside from the ones i could afford cause i keep dying in other words im a noob
Great slash + that one charm that makes it fast (nail masters glory) is a godsend for this fight in the pantheon of Hallownest
what charm makes it fast?
@@stuffing09 nail masters glory, found by getting all nail arts and heading over to sly! Don’t know how I forgot it’s name a year ago.
WINDETTE: markoth is RNG

At least you know the projectiles spawn on the sides
No Eyes tests your dashing and Monarch Wings tbh
Be careful my guy, if you keep making content this good you kight become successfull
heaven forbid, if I did that, reality itself might just crumble!
Markoth is so powerful that he can mess you up without even being alive.
I remember how hard this fight used to be. Then I started playing with all bindings and realized that nail arts make this fight WAY easier.
I like to scream at him out of anger and with abyss shrieks.
Btw, I consider radiant radiance to be harder than radiant markoth, but he really deserves that second place right above Pure Vessel (or the Obblobbles, believe me, they are just as bad as markoth if you remove his shield and the platforms and put a big damn floor)
screw oblobbles, all my homies hate oblobbles
@@jaxryz_380 heavy blow destroys obblobles
Thank you... You made me feel really good about actually beating him on radiant lol.. Still haven't beat absolute radiance on ascended yet though
Markoth: *exists*
Everyone: *Can you don't?*
Windette’s strategy: realize you can use Elegy to bypass the shield and attack from a safe distance, elegantly solving the biggest problem
My strategy: go onto the wiki to see exactly how much health he has in phase two of Radiant mode, check the damage value of Shade Soul with Shaman Stone modifier.
Bro why is my fav video even when i watched it 2 years ago
Looks like I just found one of the most underrated guys on this platform-
Windy: Look Pretty
Me: OH! Something I actually know how to do!!
Markoth exists to mock those who think that Primal Aspids are the worst thing in the grame.
Nice editing and video pacing man. And btw, WITNESS ME, for I arrived before your channel exploded with subs. Because it will
witnessed and screencapped
I am GREAT at dodging his swords. BUT HIS FUCKING. SHIELD(s)
took me 9 hours until I defeated him in radiant with a magic build, AR took me over 21 hours.
Nail arts are also great in this fight. A well-timed great slash or dash slash can get past the shield due to them being even larger than longnail+mark of pride
I've beaten PoH with all bindings and I still can't beat markoth on ascended
Seens legit
thats horseshit lmao
The only place where kingsoul is useful
0:31 is me. I beat all the bosses (that I’ve unlocked) on radiant. Then there’s Markoth…
I tip my hat off to you one legend to another
Beating all radiant bosses especially GPZ NKG and absrad is insane
radiant NKG isn't that hard (or it wasn't for me) by the time I was killing him ascended I pretty much had his attack patterns down perfectly, and it only took me like 2 more tries to radiant the fight
NKG is easy. Took me like 5 minutes to radiant. Obblobbles though. Evil
@@blueberrryy you get it.
Here’s a strategy I made for it a while ago when I was grinding radiant
*Ahem*
For charms I used,
•Unbreakable Strength
•Mark of Pride
•Shaman Stone
•Spell Twister
•Soul Catcher
Your goal is to basically get him to half health and then spam spells the second you can once he’s there so you dont even have to deal with his second phase
Go for individual one or two nail hits rather than nail arts, you get more soul this way, and his attacks aren’t as bad to dodge during the first phase (not to say its easy, just, not as hard as his second phase)
At the beginning of the fight when he’s first spawning in quickly get over to him and get a pogo or two in while he spawns
When the fight starts there are a number of ways that he can move, he can move in any diagonal direction and his sheild will either move left or right to start, I’ve found that the best runs come from him moving diagonal up and left, while having his sheild go right, this allows you to get anywhere between four to six pogos in at the start of the fight before having to worry about dodging
As for dodging his attacks, realize that your limited mobility, the poorly placed platforms, and the rotating sheild are a greater threat than the nails he summon ever were, be as careful as possible with your movements and make sure not to dash into any of the platforms walls
Keep track of your shade cloak, it is your life line in almost any situation
When he starts to do his sheild spin attack thingy, wait for it to go around him twice, it will the start actually moving away from him and you can go in and pogo him or whatever, it’s usually safest to go for two hits before getting away with shade cloak but depending on how fast you got to him and what your position is you can get a few more hits in.
Keep that up for the entirety of the first phase, you can track his health by keeping note of your own soul, once your soul reaches the full 99, two full 33’s, and ~2/3rd full on your last mini soul bubble, he’ll enter his second phase
Stop hitting him just before reaching 2/3rds, you want to wait until he does his sheild spin to get a few extra hits in before he gets his second sheild.
3:27
*laughs in unbreakable heart, grubsong, and soul eater
A solution with three charms; Grubsong, Thorns of Agony, and Shape of Unn.
If you can’t beat him(grabs Dream shield)
Beat him with his own weapon
How I, someone who died to Soul Warrior 100+ times, actually managed to beat ascended Markoth is a miracle.
I’ll NEVER attempt to beat him in radiant though. For any other boss even include abs rad I could still possibly make it to the second or stair climbing phase, but I swear I’m going to die in 10 secs if I ever attempted radiant Markoth.
Thank you markoth for destroying the man that destroyed my self esteem
Markoth: I fear no men
Markoth: But that thing
Grubberfly's Elegy
Markoth: It's scares me
Literally a skill issue
I just watched this man complain about everything In this fight and then he reveals the solution to all of his problems pretty much nullifying his initial frustration
I’d say dash slash for the distance
@@loganxavier Great slash works better for me cause with dash slash you are more likely to miscalculate and run right into him or his shield. With great slash you just gotta kinda hop around him and strike when there's an opening
@@MrPatrickbuit ehhhh, I guess. I feel like that’s too much of a gamble of getting too close. I only attack during the shield spinning attack phase personally with dash slash

1:01 i can hear the frustration
As a man who has spent an entire day grinding until beating Markoth on radiant.
*Yes*
me in pantheon of hollow nest moving on to grey prince zote with 2 masks and a sliver of soul left: "hey that was a pretty good markoth fight!"
Elegy is his weakness, Markoth cannot block elegy's cuts
I really needed this, I've been slamming my head into this boss for a few days now and I am glad that you brought up the same points that I was yelling at my monitor.
Hate is a concept... But became real everytime i fight this mf, this is the personification of Unfair under every point possible
Unpredictable?! Hahaha Zote... he laughs at Markoth
The Grubberfly's Elegy reveal was GLORIOUS
Literally Skill issue
was literally thinking about the grubberfly's elegy right before you decide to mention it. perfect timing
It seems as though Markoth was a great warrior in life, and an even greater one in death.
Me who uses weaversong with grubsong thus giving me soul whenever they hit the mothy boi: I KNOW NO SUCH WEAKNESS!
You can also use dash slash to get thru the shield
It feels amazing when you did 45 rooms in the Pantheon for 40 to die in this guy
Or when you manage to beat him with next to zero Soul and only 3 masks left and Failed Champion decides to screw you over.
I never seen so much anger against a single enemy ever since primal aspid
And Primal Aspids aren't hard to fight
If you use kingsoul, then you won’t have to worry about hitting him! Great tips from ya boy, Elderbug 👍
While I think a large chunk of these bosses have readable patterns that take time and patience, there are some here that are just not designed well. Especially for radiance difficulty. It cracks me up there are some bosses on ascended/radiance that get increased obstacles that deserve none and some that don’t get it when it is probably merited
_"no voice to cry suffering"_
So that's why
I beat him twice on my first two runs of hallownest then died on the 3rd, so thought I’d go train him, failed the next 40 tries and realised how lucky I was to beat him those first two times
When he was talking about the charms I was thinking about using the dream shield and dream nail combo so you can have a big thing protecting you from projectiles sometimes
imagine how the bosses feel fighting you if they had feelings
uumuu 🤝 markoth
🤝: being the 2 bosses that i hate the most
I enjoy how as I am watching this a CrankyTemplar video of radiant Markoth sits at the top of the recommendations
so friggin relatable. I have most bosses done radiant or ascended and for a long time I didn't even look at this atrocity
I just got my ass beat by Nightmare Grimm in the last Pantheon because I was still in the mindset for his _original_ form and this video cheered me up great.
Thank you! I was able to radiant every boss without really any problem. Markoth was the only one that gave me issues. I wouldn’t say he’s insanely hard, but he’s definitely the hardest boss in Hollow Knight.
My friends laughed at me when I said he’s the hardest boss. However, they never completed the final pantheon, nor radianted every boss, so I say they have no room to talk.
