A few years back we wanted to buy a boat too, preferably a sportcruiser. You wont believe how many rusty engines we have seen. The ond we bought was in perfect conditions, but had some minor problems anyway
that baby is doing 90 miles an hour standing still purring like a kitten and im a sailboat guy but in the 80s had a glastron gt-150 with Evinrude 115 with trim and tilt wake jumper but for some reason sailboats took a hold of me but there is still a place in my heart for stinkpots / checkmates glastrons and hydrostreams
Just finished watching all 49 videos, very inspiring stuff. I am now thinking about buying an old fibreglass boat and rebuilding her once i sell my ally boat. I feel i have learn't a lot from these videos, they are just great. I wish more people would video their boat projects.
He Fogged the Engine when he put it away for the winter. The spray the fog down the carb until the engine dies. This coats the intake, ports, cylinders and such for corrosion.
It is new, and the water is coming from the exhaust. The replacement exhaust tube is not a bellows any more, therefore the water comes out near the rear of the boat.
The new updates serviced kit does not have an exhaust bellows any more. It has a tube that does not actually attach to the drive. It makes the boat a little louder though.
Jake Pugh, Ford Engines are not Mercruiser. The boat before the one I won now had twin 351 ford engines. But they were not Windsor's. Mine were Cleveland's. They have the four bolt main and the beefier cam for the high rpm's. I have a smaller boat now. Only 21 feet, and it has a Mercruiser 898 engine. Which is the Chevy 305. I see a lot of the 305's have the 228 or something emblem on them. I do not understand this. I am new to Mercruiser. But the sticker on the valve cover says 305 cid, blah, blah, blah. I am putting a new engine in it starting this weekend. Got to be totally ready for the halibut season.
on the closed loop cooling setup, do you still need to add the recommended coolant for regular normal operations? I don't have a heat exchanger but the manual is still calling for a 50/50 mix. I've seen a few videos where they unplug one of the water lines, flip it upside down and use that to pour down the coolant. Any help would be much appreciated! thanks
I'm considering either doing a v8 swap on my old 1969 IMP or turbo on it. either way it'll be at about the same hp. what are the specs on the prop on this boat?
How do you rev it like that? In a car it's just the accelerator - is this just pushing forward and back on the hand throttle? Sounds like how you rev a car more than a boat! (New to boating all FYI)
On my old Century boat with the same engine, the hand throttle has a button you can push so that when you move the lever it only pulls on the throttle cable and not the gear shift cable. Then a forward and back motion will rev the engine just like a car's accelerator pedal would. Hope this helps!
The water coming out closer towards the fiber glass of the boat like not near the prop. What does that mean or what could it mean? Good bad is it supposed to do that?
@@FriscoBoatersGarage hey so I’m looking at a boat that is letting the water out of the same spot near the transom. I was told it was no good all the exhaust need to come out of the prop. Also the boat I’m looking at the bellows are in great shape. Just was worried about something going wrong.
Me and my dad just bought an 89 regal medallion with a 3.7 mercruiser. We hooked it up to the hose today to run it and when we did water was coming out right by where those two hoses are by the transom. Is that normal? I don't see it happening here
The only time it's normal to see water in your bilge is if your washing it or have a traditional packing gland. Or sometimes people will route like ice chest drains or AC condensate drains to the bilge (lazy)
Fogger oil in the engine. It's a oil used to winterize the engine over there winter to prevent cylinder rust. Or if you have a motor being stored this can be applied to prevent the cylinders from rusting up. First fire up the engine will smoke because it's burning of the fogger oil. The rest is steam, cold water, warm engine, cooler day equals steam. And the boat had a aftermarket exhaust is why the water wasn't coming out of the prop. Incase you were wondering.
I am buying a 23ft boat has mercruiser 260 guy said cant start engine till it's in water. How do I check if the motor runs . How did you hook up water hose?
Armaan khan best be don’t buy it something not right if he said that and sometimes it best to past it up and why get a inboard outboard man outboard motors came so far in the pasts years find u a nice 22ft that got a nice four stroke 175 and call it a day
There is an impeller in the lower unit that will be damaged if ran dry. To start out of water you must use a motor flushing attachment. New Mercury Mercruiser Quicksilver OEM Part # 44357T2 FLUSHING KIT. (found on Amazon). I owned a Mercruiser 165 years ago and it was a good I/O but needed TLC.
Throttle is super smooth. Well done. Nice to see some people actually take care of the stuff they buy. These toys aren’t cheap.

LOVE the sound of that idle
Forget it being a boat car or plane nothing exhaust fumes. Love the look and smell haha
Lmfao same here espically on the water everyone tells me im weird. One thing I love about summer.
My dad had a glastron jet boat with a 455 olds in it. Still my favorite boat and the best sounding boat till this day

As a California boy. My winterization routine consists of warm beanie and gloves. Good luck.
For a minute there I thought I could smell the exhaust lol

Now that sounds like a mustang. Yeah my favorite
I really liked this boat. One day if you get time I would love a video talking about the pros and cons of this boat and the sea ray.
One of the best sounds on earth!!
Sounds great! Take care of your shit and it'll take care of you.
I talk to him all the time. He loves the boat.
FriscoBoater still can’t believe you sold it

There is nothing quite like the sound of water in the duals.
Love the smoke coming out. Reminds me of my old two cycle outboard. mmmm.
it looks like the bellows are shot. note the water running out behind the outdrive and not out of the prop hub.
Sounds good. I think id have rested something under the outdrive rather than straight onto the drive. Thanks for sharing.
@SWD2263
That was fogging oil smoke at first, and then it was steam. It was a cool day.
I got a 1975 Invader I can't get turned over. It won't do anything and the battery seems to have 12.7V when I hook up my Jumpstart pak
Do you perhaps have a part number for the water pump? Mine has just seized. We've got the salt water version.
are mercury V8’s pretty much just a GM motor outfitted for marine use?
What size was the propeler and max speed?
Do you have a picture pf you engine.
I got. A 350 . In a boat. But its lock up. And. Im planning to swap a 5.7. In to it
Sounds nice and healthy
Does the exhaust exit the propeller hub?
Is this a nice Boot Engine V8 love
Its an explosions of smoke

228hp
Paul Newman not true I have a 19 1/2 ft StarCraft with a 5.7 mercruiser
I just purchased a mercruiser alpha 260/v8 and I need to do a full tune up. What do you use for plugs and wires and oik
Do you have a "Waking Up" checklist that you use. I will be doing my seasonal maintenance myself this year.

350, solid engine
0:43 tic tiic TIIIIIC BOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!
Wierd my boat had that problem til i replaced the exhaust bellows and it quit. I had a 351 Windsor in mine.
How is it going ?
What's ur top speed? My 21ft starcraft lx has same engine and I get her up to 58. If it's choppy 62
GAS TOO EXPENSIVE RIGHT NOW
Just so people know the only reason there is so much exhaust is because of the fogging sprayed I the motor in the fall to protect the motor.

I know its to late but i woud rater take the v8 i had an turbo charged boat once and it tend to brake a lot
Do you ever hear from the guy that bought this? How sweet to have a whole documentary on your boat's rebuild.
Merc 5.7 V8 / V6 is always chevy i think
How do you rev it like that? In a car it's just the accelerator - is this just pushing forward and back on the hand throttle? Sounds like how you rev a car more than a boat! (New to boating all FYI)
It’s the choke on the throttle so it doesn’t put it into drive

You push the gear override button which allows you to push the lever forward with the lever putting it in gear, so it's only operating the throttle .
@@dieseldime thank you! I’m new to boats so it confused me I’m like “where’s neutral!?” Haha

Yes u can a ford is always better
O took ford 8 years to catch up to chevy
water dosnt run out of thr prop hub its running out where it is sopose to
I have a lot white smoke coming out is that normal ??????
Yes, it is the fogging oil burning off that I put in the plug holes in the fall.

it has a nice chug to it :)
yeah bro
music to my ears xD
👍
Next time show us the whole boat.
What is this like on fuel ⛽️?
