I was surprised at how balanced it sounded with everything at noon, and how well the gain stages blended into each other. Not to mention the KILLER deal you got!
Hey. Thx for the comment. It’s just an outstanding all round amplifier. It can do every style of Marshall sound exceptionally well. It’s small, light and extremely well thought out and featured.
Finally a great demo of the studiotone! Damn man thank you so much for the video. I've been thinking about getting a combo version and now I'm 100% convinced to just go for it. Sounds amazing!
Great demo! I think these amps are pretty underrated; the studiotone has been around for ages and its features are still pretty ‘up there’ I think. They are well built and easy to service.
I know man. Just the perfect amplifier. I just made a video on how I record guitar and all the clean and dirty tones all come from this amp. Running the emulated out into my interface. This amp can literally do anything!
Hey Drip N Rip. So I’ve never really understood the need for an attenuator on a master volume amp. Unless you are strictly looking for a lot of power amp distortion which I’ve never really liked at low volume levels anyway. I play this amp with the cab for all my rehearsing at home and it’s distortion characteristics are all really great at low volumes. The clean channel does sound great cranked but you can get a similar vibe on the clean channel with a boost pedal. This amp works really well at low volume. Definitely worth checking out.
I will get its big brother soon : the studiotone XL. Thanks for your review it helped. I will use either a volume pedal in fx loop or power soak between speaker and amp to tame it at home. Do you think it worth it swapping the tubes? I have heard that Paul Reed Smith uses himself some Koch amps. I do not understand why this brand does not get bigger, quality is there.
Hey Alain. Thanks for the comment and for watching the video. The XL looks cool. Just more power and a volume control for the drive+ channel so my review would probably be quite accurate in terms of sound. To be honest I don’t think I’d bother with a volume pedal in the FX loop unless you want to push the clean channel all the time as the drive volume very much acts like a master volume on the drive channel and works great. An attenuator would bring the power amp distortion into play which is a different thing snd may be worth trying. I agree they are great amps and not as widely known as one might expect.
Amazing demo Mr!!! I'm about to get this thing but i just got a question : i'd Like to pair it with my Helix, play with headphones and jam with a backing track on my computer in the same time! Do you think it's possible ? Do i have to plug my headphones in the amp or in the Helix? Thanks ! Take Care! Julien from France.
Hey Julien. Thanks for your comment and glad you enjoyed the demo. So that would be easy you would simply place the preamp of the Koch in one the FX loops of the helix and use an IR or cab sim in one black at the end of the signal chain. With regard to listening to the backing track at ye same time you’d need to plug it into the helix somehow. Does it have an aux input anywhere?
So got my amp...love it!! So to plug into my focusrite is it best to use the speaker out or just the line out ...I don't have any IR software ...would be using reaper ...many thanks
Hey Dan. Congrats. Brilliant amp. Just about to put a new set of EL84s in mine. Definitely the emulated out abs experiment with the mic position switch and the speaker select switch. Also if you wanna try IRs download Lancaster Audio’s free IR loader and the Line 6 Allure pack (also free) good to start with.
hi ,im very interested in buying one of these amps ,your demo is great and the amp sounds superb!il need to use it at night sometimes and wanted to ask you if the sound through the headphones is as good as straight out of the speaker? thanks.
The mid shift works together with the Treble knob. Very unlogical but I figured it out with the manual. That's why there is no difference when you just switch the knob.
Hey Malcolm. Yep. I still use it every single day. Never leaves my studio. It’s the most consistent piece of gear I’ve owned in teb last 10 years. And I think I paid €450!!
@@TheGuitarEffect Koch just popped up on my radar so to speak. I see one here in the netherlands where they are made for 500 euro. Seems like a deal for what it is !
I have the combo of this, I find that the EQ on my pedals are more powerfull than the EQ on the amp which I mostly use for finetuning certain frequencies. Mid shift and the bright switch are quite powerfull though.
Hey. Thanks for the comment. I generally find Marshall style amps have pretty passive EQ. And I’d agree the EQ on this is subtle. Really not a problem though with the mid and bright switches. It really is an absolute stunner of an amp.
@@TheGuitarEffect I can't play it loud enough (yet, got an interface on the way so I can take the recording out to that) to fully utilize it's preamp section but I agree. Then again, that's a good thing right? I mean, we have "the marshall sound" :)
The only Orange amp ive every liked is their Tremlord amp and thats because it does its own thing that is far removed from Orange "norm". Sorry, just wanted to chime in with what you were talking about early in the video about not liking Orange amps. ;-)
Weird that in my 30+ years of playing ive never actually tried a Koch before and ive sat right next to one to try out another amp or two haha. Thanks for the video :-)
Hey man. I’ve not heard of the tremlord. I’ll check that out. Yeah I still have no love for orange. Just not my thing. Koch make fantastic stuff. Can’t recommend them highly enough. Thx for the comment. Appreciate it!
Hi Pawel. Thanks for the comment. The TC dark matter demo and Mosky Drive pedals videos are both through this Amp’s clean channel. I would happily use it as a pedal platform.
The best demonstration of this amp I've seen so far. Keep up the great work! You got me really interested in this amp. Would it be possible to run both the internal speaker and an external cab at the same time? I've got a Marshall 4x12 (either 4 or 16ohms in mono) that I like putting on the opposite side of my combos, so I can feel it, while standing between them, if you know what I mean😄
Hey SW32. Thanks for the comment. Loads of people seem to love this demo!! It’s a brilliant amp. I’ve been using it direct to record all my UA-cam videos since March. I love it. Absolutely creaking simple multi channel amp. And the different recording outputs and speaker kill switch are genius. With regard to your question, I don’t have a combo I have a head so there is no internal speaker. I’m also a complete idiot when it comes to ohmage matching with external speakers. So I’d say head to the Koch website and download the manual. But it’s definitely possible to run an external cab as well as the internal speaker. For sure. And I know very well have great it is to have two amps / cabs onstage. Live I run two line6 DT25s. I use the boss ES8 to switch between wet dry and stereo. It’s sounds amazing.
@@TheGuitarEffect Thx for the fast response. I checked the Koch website and they specifically stated that only one output at a time can be used. So that is kind of a bummer, sadly. But how about playing it at home through a speaker. Is it possible to get some powertube distortion without blowing your ears off?
So no you absolutely can not crank it to the point where you’ll get power amp distortion. It’s 20 watts. But it does sound great at bedroom volumes for both clean and dirty. I boost the clean with a boost pedal when playing at low volumes. I have a load of clips on my Instagram that are recorded with a phone in the room while playing through the cab. Go have a listen. They are all very quiet.
Finally a good test video for this unknown amp. I have mine for 3 years, I love it! What speaker do you use? I use mine with an Orange open back 2×12 V30.
Hey man. Thx for the comment glad you like the video. I generally run mine direct at home but I do have a cheap jet city 112 cab here that sounds great. I just completely retubed my head and it sounds amazing.

Very impressive presentation of this beautiful amp!
Thanks!
Great review, thanks! BTW, it's a Dutch (not German) company. Cheers.
Hey Thomas. I know, I found out literally hours after I made it the video! Can’t change it though. Great company making great amps.
Many thanks that was a very useful demo.
Thx Philip. Glad you enjoyed it.

Uwe Janssen I only got mine at the beginning of lockdown so I haven’t been able to gig it yet. Really hoping I can soon though.
You will love it! 😎👍
Excellent amp.. but for my needs, I need the attenuator function to reduce the volume to bedroom levels.
