    smpratte is one of the best in the game. Highly informative youtube channel! Hopefully more people will notice your channel. I mean come on, 2000 views on these kind of quality videos? That seems silly. Hope you keep up the great work.

    Hey Scott, you're videos are always fascinating to watch! I've learned a lot from them! I was hoping you could enlighten me on this: How familiar are you with "Holo Bleeds"? I was told they are common among newer sets. However they are much more rare in the WOTC sets, primarily base set through fossil. I wanted to know if this was true and if there was any real value in "Holo Bleeds" from the first sets. Thanks for your time, man! And keep up the good work!

    Thank you Scott for reinforcing this point. I get so tired of the same question over and over. THEIR IS NO GUARANTEE. Thats why I always say collect what you want to collect, if it accumulates or increases in value then great, if not, at least it has sentimental value (which sustains the hobby).

    Another great vid man, would love to see a video of keeping rare sealed products sealed vs opening and grading the cards...i have legendary, skyridge and 1st edition base set blister packs which i wont touch but would love to know your thoughts on wether they should be opened and graded 👍

      Pokémania! Keep them sealed man. There’s always that risk of not getting the high grade. And sealed product is rising

    Loved this video, I'm just going to add to the points, I always think there's a "Late stage" basically the stage before the card or booster just jumps in price, if you know the older products you can simply check the online stores like Troll, Ebay, Chaos Cards to understand how many are left online, take the initiative to buy those last few and 9/10 you'll be rewarded. I mean products that have low quantity left on Ebay and are sold out in the stores, if the prices seem fairly low still in your opinion then go for it and buy the last ones, It's likely they're a low price because the seller hasn't realised the quantity left online, a lot of shops don't have time to review the quantity every day as they sell thousands of cards and boosters but you do have that knowledge, use it and research. Two recent examples:
    + Pop Series 5 Boosters (2017 was £25 a pack, 2018 now over £80 - £100+)
    + 1st Edition Dark Charizard (Completely under priced at £40 in 2017, has jumped to maybe around £80 without PSA)
    Another thing is that recent cards can fetch a price, it's just you REALLY have to understand what is truly wanted, your GX is mass printed but one good example is the Rainbow Rare Charizard, SMPratte made a video called "Woulda Coulda Shoulda" which this is a great example, I got 6 of these on the original eBay listings and was told it was a stupid idea, got them for £65 each, purchased them because i noticed the stores were bought out and the eBay listings were getting a lot of bids showing interest. They're now going for £150+ and even £350 for a PSA 10. The recent Rainbow Rayquaza is looking like a similar situation, he's a highly loved Pokemon, the prices maybe not as dramatic as it's still early days but even the lowest priced ones are going for £65 each and practically none are in PSA cases online yet so its a really good time to pick one up.

    I personally don't collect for the sake of 'investing' per se, but mainly just to enjoy the hobby, the art and the nostalgia. I would never recommend anyone to collect Pokemon just for the sake of making money, I would think that there are safer, better and more profitable ways to make money on the stock market than trying to invest in Pokemon. But not everything can be quantified with dollars and cents, the experience of holding the card and enjoying it would be my number 1 reason why I would recommend anyone to buy shiny cardboard like me.

    I generally just collect cards I like the look of at random, it's a nice feeling when you see one rocket in price like that one. Like you said I'm a collector though, I'll never sell this stuff so the price is irrelevant to me, I collect because I enjoy it, not to turn a quick profit

    Hey SMPraatte I recently started collecting PSA cards. Just curious if you think it’s worth buying up cheap low grade holos from WOTC now 5-8 grades and holding on to them for 5-10 years. (I may never sell them honestly) but I can get old jungle base set and fossil holos for like 5-10 bucks at those grades but is it really worth it?

I have every version of Charizard ever made not including 1st ediiton, shadowless, 1st edition shadowless.. so i have like 45 different cards.. but most are a little damaged. Do you think vintage slight damaged cards will rise in value in the future ? If its not psa 9-10 theyve barely rose in price.

    When investing in vintage graded cards in your opinion is it better to go with unlimited psa 10s or 1st edition psa 9s? The prices are usually pretty similar on most cards now but do you think the 1st ed stamp or the psa 10 will be more valuable in the future?

    • @blakeconklinUSN1985
      @blakeconklinUSN1985 5 років тому

      1st edition stamps have more of a limited print and would most likely guarantee a higher premium since the unlimited would be a higher print run. Though some cards just tend to be harder to get a higher grade which can also potentially increase the value

      Very nice! I just started (re)collecting a couple months ago. I scored a 1st edition Dark Raichu Rocket secret rare from Team Rocket for only $15. I haven’t gotten it graded yet but it looks to me to be an 8-9. No scratches on the holo and centering is decent. I also got 1st ed Dark Charizard and Dark Balstoise holos as well as their 1st ed evolutions from Team Rocket. Those are maybe a 7 or 8 if I had to guess. I’m waiting to get more cards to send in to PSA in bulk. Just working on the rest of the set.

    As i sealed collector i love your videos man.
    I have about an $800 collection. A few older items. But most stuff from the past 5 years.
    Everything is sealed mint
    Booster boxes
    3 japanese pikachu blister packs
    2 korean booster boxes
    Elite trainers
    Tins
    Collection boxes( all generations red and blue boxes and mythical collection)
    Booster packs
    I bought alot of stuff this summer. Now my plan is to buy more rare stuff when i find good deals on amazon.
    Also gonna continue to buy stuff thats on clearance at target or walmart.
    Basically i try to get my best bang for my buck. Collect good recent sets like generations. And evolutions. And stuff like legendary collection.
    I keep everything sealed mint. Gonna keep doing what i do over the next year or two. Then put it all away for 10 years and see if anything is worth selling, if not ill keep it.
    Thanks for all the information in your videos. It really is helpful👍

    • @blakeconklinUSN1985
      @blakeconklinUSN1985 5 років тому

      In this current market, most serious collector's agree that they most likely won't retain their value, unless you are talking about exclusive/limited cards. All the cards look the same and most old collector's are offset on it. Too much of a mass production w/ no end in sight with Pokemon cards just like the sports cards in the late 80s/90s.

    • @Master-rz1xi
      @Master-rz1xi 5 років тому

    • @blakeconklinUSN1985
      @blakeconklinUSN1985 5 років тому

      @@Master-rz1xi Most likely they will keep going up. Even the older unlimited base set. Even though it had a higher print run, WOTC is no longer producing them. Boxes continue to be opened which only makes the cards rarer. Shadowless cards have had a decent increase as well.

    Not all collectibles thrive on genuine interest. MTG has been going up because of a lucrative speculator market the emerged independent of genuine interest in MTG.

    • @Mr.NiceGaius
      @Mr.NiceGaius 5 років тому +2

      MTGDog Would the speculator market exist if there was no foundational interest in the cards? Like, if suddenly there were no players would the cards continue to trade hands as investments?

    • @mtgdog5657
      @mtgdog5657 5 років тому

      Mr. Nice Gaius MTG has been in decline, yet prices have continued to rise at unsustainable rates. There was some price growth during the MTG boom of 2011, but the real price jumps started in 2016. Not because of increased interest in MTG, but because normies learned how to scalp on TCGPlayer thanks to the infamous Craig Berry incident.
      Demand didn't increase, in fact, it DECREASED. The only thing that increased was public awareness of how to manipulate the market.

    • @Mr.NiceGaius
      @Mr.NiceGaius 5 років тому

      MTGDog So, the people participating in the speculative market have no interest/emotional investment in MtG, and they are just basically treating the cards as stocks? I’m honestly not being facetious but just trying to legitimately understand how something could increase if there is no value.

    • @mtgdog5657
      @mtgdog5657 5 років тому

      Mr. Nice Gaius Not all of them, but alot of them are. Let me put it this way: you have people like Rudy and OpenBoosters who are genuinely interested, and then you have people like Daniel Chang and James Chillcott who just treat it like the stock market.

    • @Mr.NiceGaius
      @Mr.NiceGaius 5 років тому

      MTGDog Ok, I can see what you’re saying: There’s a lot more “investing for investing‘s sake” in MtG. But I really doubt there would be anything for speculators to make money on if there were no individuals on the ground floor playing MtG or interested in MtG for the cards themselves. The speculators now might be treating the cards like a stock, but the “stock value” is derived from genuine interest. Like, a company’s stock value is the company’s output and what people think that output is worth at the end of the day. Card games, like MtG, do not have an output, so their value (I would argue) is closely tied to some fundamental interest/appreciation by players/fans. Speculators would have no money to be made if people completely lost interest in the game and/or the cards.
