I always assumed that people in Yharnam cover their eyes not simply as symbolic meaning to Willem, but also to try to hide if their pupils have collapsed, which implies that they're close to turning into beasts. It just became an accepted social norm that everyone's got bandages and whatnot over their eyes, and they all just say it's some tribute and whatnot, but it's moreso to keep themselves safe from hunters noticing the most obvious sign of beasthood.

They also literally put eyes on the inside of their brain. So it's definitely not a figurative thing. I'm not sure why he thinks they are just being figurative. There are numerous sources talking about eyes actually being put into skulls.

      Maybe you're right.
When we talk to Gilbert in the center of Yharnam, we realize that he is sick and coughs everytime we talk to him. Later, after defeating Vicar Amelia, he's worse than before and asks the gods for help. And finally, in the blood moon stage, we found him fully turned into a beast with a bandage covering his eyes.
The suspicious Beggar in the forbbiden woods is found feeding upon corpses and if we attack him, he turns into a beast. He also has bandages covering his eyes.

I wouldn't say the story of the game itself is amazing, but rather the story put together by fans. Even if they are correct, the game very rarely having anything to confirm them is a flaw in my opinion (granted that the DLC did possibly confirm some).
I think the Souls games would be much better (atleast in terms of characters, lore and story) if they had an in-game info page similar to Nioh. Essentially having the lore notes of the fanmade Wikis be part of the actual game.
Oh and they really should just animate NPC's faces when they talk. Why even bother having them blink?
It has to be laziness, but even then, I'd rather they'd just cover everybody's face.
(and know about the theory that it's like that on purpose, so that the slight facial movement of the Doll is more meaningful. I still think it's just embarrassing in a 2015 game).

This is good lore... however, there is a possible explanation for the Cainhurst summons you find at the clinic. According to one theory, you, the playable character, are the last survivor of the massacre of the Fishing Hamlet. You were seeking help for an unknown blood condition (possibly due to exposure to Kos) when you arrived at the clinic (beginning of the game). You possessed the summons at the beginning--that's why the Vilebloods are interested in your character, because of the mystery of the Fishing Hamlet and the possible power of Kos.
This also explains why you are chosen to be the Good Hunter, in order to--in one sense--redeem Gehrman and the other hunters who participated in the slaughter of the Hamlet inhabitants. One clue indicating this might be true is the 'Lone Survivor' class you can choose at the beginning of the game: 'lone survivor of a lost hamlet' is the description, if I'm not mistaken.
I'm not sure what the blood minister did to make our character lose his/her memory prior to encountering the Messengers at the beginning of the game--maybe Gehrman wanted our memory to get zapped so we would be willing to redeem him? I look at the game as an adventure to stop the Great Ones from ruining mankind, and a puzzle to figure out what happened to our Good Hunter in the first place. Anyway, this is just a theory, but I like it, personally.

I don't think the Great Ones are as malicious as you seem to believe.
Ebrites does literally nothing, only attacking in self defense. The Moon Presence's focus seems to be on the other Great Ones. The Brain was captured and tortured by Mensis. Only three Lesser Amygdala's are hostile, two serve as Gate Guardians, and one just lasers everything. Oedon's off being Formless. All and all, the Great Ones (apart from one asshole Lesser Amygdala) don't display any real aggression or malevolence to humanity.
Now, you could make an argument the Great Ones are indirectly harmful to humanity.

Queen Anelise isn't speaking in 3rd person, dude. The "we", "us" and"our" which she uses is referred to as the "royal we", the "royal us" and the "royal our". And it's traditionally used by Kings and Queens to refer to themselves. Even the current Queen of England makes use of these phrases when referring to herself. Didn't you think it was strange that these words were written in capital letters in the dialogue? Even though they appeared in the middle of the sentence? It was a dead giveaway.

I don't think Laurance was the Cainhurst scholar Alfred was alluding to. Given that he was the founder of the healing church (the first vicar), it is unlikely the church would make a mortal enemy out of his studies. Additionally, Lady Maria's weapon and armor descriptions allude to a time when hunters from Cainhurst trained under Gerham, suggesting the nobles were not antagonized in the early days of the church.

I really like this video. However seems a bias was towards liking the executioners, I prefer vilebloods.
The church messes up and someone takes blood to Cainhurst, not knowing better they drink it and the answer is to form the Executioners. A group of fanatics who never question the church but are quick to destroy any who do. Executioners go to Cainhurst and their answer is to literally destroy everyone (infected or not) there and obliterate the culture. Mirroring that of which happened to Old Yharnam.
Also Alfred hardly knows any of the inner workings of the church, but hates the Vileboods because the church tells him to. Proceeds to pretend to know what they stand for, when he doesn't even understand his own organization beyond rudimentary knowledge.
Also it seems that you thought the description of the Executioner Set was something Logarius often said. However, to me it reads more like a death poem, I believe they are a bit more common in Japan - emperors there would sometimes write them. Sounds like something you would more so reflect on after having done something you didn't want to but believed was right.
But I probably have my own bias as well. Thanks

Vilebloods aren't the good guys though
The executioners are fanatics, as is Alfred if you let him go 'indulge himself' at cainherst
But the vilebloods are still corrupt nobles and vampiric beasts that are greedy and care only about their Queens blood and blood dregs

    • @bryangan2224
      @bryangan2224 4 роки тому +51

But you don't know that the Vilebloods did anything wrong. They were the ones that were slaughtered for receicing a gift someone brought them (some say it's the bloody crow, some say it's Maria, who knows, but it's not like the Vilebloods planted a spy to steal it).
The church claims the Vileblood is tainted, but you don't see any evidence of this either. (Arianna's blood restores stamina, Adella's restores HP, but who knows if the type of exact healing doesn't differ among different individuals, rather than church vs cainhurst?) Also, if we're talking about tainted, it seems like neither blood is able to escape the beastly scourge to begin with, so the Old Blood is tainted regardless of which faction uses it.
The church and executioners in general are the bad guys, greedily wanting ascension and killing everyone or everything in their way, along with the massacre at the Hamlet and the choir experimenting on orphans, etc. I tend to see Cainhurst merely as a political rival that they wanted to get rid of, especially since someone brought them some Old Blood. It seems more likely that they didn't want to share, rather than their propaganda that everyone at Cainhurst is evil and them having some old blood will taint the church's own (although it's a good story to feed to devoted simpletons like Alfred).

Rather than Ebrietas being discovered and brought to the cavern beneath the cathedral, wouldn't it seem more likely she was just found there and the Church built the cavern around her? It makes sense when you take into account the Isz Chalice is found there and the fact that the area is already cavernous, much like a good portion of the Pthumerian Ruins. It wouldn't be too absurd to think the Alter of Despair is the likely entrance to Isz. When you look at it that way, she being the source of the blood just seems more like a satisfying conclusion. And to not even remotely sound sarcastic, can you honestly imagine the Church not only transporting a giant alien through town but the Rom-like alter as well? Surely someone would of taken notice. Taken all of this into account, it seems more plausible Ebrietas was simply discovered exactly where we Hunters find her.

Why are the vilebloods and healing church enemies exactly? Seems they were just trying to accomplish roughly the same thing. Were the healing church just not able to bear the fact that another organization could have been more powerful if left unchecked?

    • @kenzieuchiha1191

AndrewLuis CrespoDeMoura Seems like it, but the Healing Church is the very reason why the Vilebloods exist in the first place. Or at least Laurence is to blame, since by all evidence given he's the one who brought the "forbidden blood" back to Cainhurst.

AndrewLuis CrespoDeMoura The healing church sees them as a threat because they are attempting to birth a child of blood. Also the family linked to the pthumerians and are gaining power so the church doesn't like that. If that makes any sense

Kenni Cumberbatch Not necessarily. The knights in the tombs is evidence enought to prove that the Vilebloods were the first group after the Pthumerians, so perhaps they were the first to find the "Old Blood". Laurence appearance and the establishment of the Healing Church was way later. So he doesn't have anything to do with it. Also, the executioners garb will tell you that Logarius is way back in the timeline. Why? Well because the attire was the one that the church took inspiration to make a holy shawl. "later became the basis for all Church attire, with its heavy draping of Holy Shawl". So the Executioners were also a group that was founded way back. Cheers.

I think you were pretty spot on about most of this. However I do think you mistook Lawrence as the one who Alfred references as the byrgenworth scholar that betrayed willem to bring the old blood to cainhurst. While I do think it's plausible, I don't think it's likely. For instance, why would Laurence give them one strain of the old blood establish the "Healing Church" with a different strain and then create the executioners to eliminate them? It just doesn't make too much sense.
Also, the blood lickers outside cainhurst aren't cainhurstians. They likely showed up after the battle that took place in castle cainhurst. If you go into some of the deeper chalice dungeons you'll notice that sometimes after killing strong enemies or even a large number in one room that one (a blood licker) will appear. I'm not sure where these things originate from, but they seem to be similar to the carrion crows in that they definitely do over indulge in blood themselves.

After studying Bloodbornes lore for many years now, the big take away I have is to show the folly of man. Between the Crimes of Byrgenworth, and the Totalitarian, Genocidal Healing Church, I think it really shows what mankind is capable of in the pursuit of knowledge. I think Laurence diverged from Byrgenworth with totally good intentions, but his belief in the blood and his ability to control it were fatally flawed. And I think that once the church was established, the power it had over people got to his head and of course, he fell like everyone else to beast hood, losing his humanity in the process.

Golly good show.

Concerning the connection between Pthumerians and Vilebloods, I feel like their 'blood magic' is a connection. Queen Yharnam uses strong blood magic during the PC's fight with her. The Bloody Crow of Cainhurst also uses blood magic via his sword. Lady Maria--who is from Cainhurst--also uses blood magic during her fight with the PC. The only other character to use blood magic is Brador, using Bloodletter, however since he and Maria were both protectors of the Healing Church's dark secret, it's possible he also had a connection to Cainhurst, or at least a connection to Lady Maria. I don't think it's obvious, but I think the argument can be made that there is something unique about blood magic in the game, and it seems to originate from the Pthumerians.
My theory is that whatever blood the nobles of Cainhurst got a hold of was of the same stock that granted Queen Yharnam her blood magic abilities. Cainhurst nobles also are known to have pale skin and fair hair, a sort of vampirish look that Pthumerians also share. Idk, there's no overt connections I suppose, but Soulsborne games are all about piecing the puzzles together from the scattered clues. I think there're enough clues here to make a decent connection to these respective parties, imho.

You say that Laurence literally cannot be the Bloodletting Beast because we fight it earlier, well the same can be said for all the main game bosses that reappear in the chalices. I don’t think the chalices obey the laws of time. How else would we be able to fight Ebrieatas in Isz even though she’s currently either dead or residing beneath the Grand Cathedral. Laurence in the DLC was retconned into a Cleric Beast reskin, that much is obvious, but everything else points to Laurence being the Bloodletting Beast. For one take a look at Laurence’s skull in the real world, then look at the Bloodletting Beast’s head. I don’t know about you but, they look remarkably similar to each other. The Japanese name Lord of Beast Blood could also refer to him as the master of blood, like you said. Also, if the Chalices don’t obey time like I suggested, this could explain why we fight both the regular and decapitated version, and why it’s missing it’s head at all.
This is just my take on the whole thing, but basically what I’m getting at is Laurence was originally the Bloodletting Beast, then From retconned it and made him a Cleric Beast.

I quite like Alfred. He's kind, well mannered, and clearly driven by Logarius' beliefs. While his apparent madness after killing Annalise can be misunderstood as him manipulating you, madness is pretty common in and around Yharnam, so I actually expected it. And you can't say he doesn't do anything for you in return. He gives you Fire Paper, something you otherwise can't get receive until you get a very high-ranking Hunter badge, and that's just for agreeing to cooperation, which seems to both rare and frowned upon by other Hunters. Then he can be summoned to fight the Bloodstarved Beast and Cleric Beast. To us those bosses aren't hard, but in Bloodborne they're huge and horrifyingly strong monsters.
Then he gives you the Wheel Badge, something coveted and reserved for the highly zealous Executioners. That shows a lot of trust. Alfred clearly has devoted his entire life to Logarius and the Executioner's beliefs, so he's not giving that to you as a careless trinket.
His death is sad, but fulfilling. He sacrificed himself to become a martyr. His hatred of the Vilebloods isn't unfounded either, if we're honest. The Vileblood Knights took pride in the brutal butchering of beasts, whereas Yharnam Hunters seemed to despise it, hence the refining of weapons from savage Beast Cutters to elegant Threaded Canes. And then Annalise's own Guard are straight up murders who go out in the night to kill people of strong blood (most likely other Hunters and Blood Saints) so they can collect disgusting Blood Dregs for their Undead Queen to consume. I just can't feel bad for them.
In the end, Alfred fulfilled his chosen purpose in life, and I'm glad he died satisfied and happy.

Dark souls 3 however seems different to DS1, it's like they have tried to copy the combat from Bloodborne without much changes to the player. Enemies hit hard and fast, by the time your stamina is back up they have swung again, I have only yet found 2 enemies I can stagger the rest just deplete your health in 2-3 hits. Hopefully they can sort it out because I had high hopes for DS3

I like to think the people of Cainhurst were descended from the makers of the labyrinth. they may no longer have been guardians of the old ones, but would have still been upset when it was found and the blood taken. bygenwerth was more interested in eyes, so the cainhurst people wouldn't have hated them so much. but then the healing church split off and got addicted to the blood. I like to think the cainhurst people were actual noble, and preserved the old ways. but because the old ones and the old ways are incomprehensible and foreign to mortals they simply appeared vile to others, like the church. it didn't seem like the people of cainhurst turn to beasts, which suggests their blood source is different. it gets a bit confusing figuring out who is drinking what blood, but it could just be that it is the same blood source of the old ones but that the people of cainhurst could use it no problem, because they were descendants of the people that made the labyrinth, not just normal humans. the ancient cainhursts brought normal humans under their wing, but the vilebloods thus created became addicted to their blood just as people got addicted to the churchs blood.

      *****
I'm not basing it off of hours but it shows how much less of a game ds3 is. Dark souls 3 lack the content of bloodborne and the difficulty. Dark souls bosses are super easy. It took me one try for all except the old king, dragon slayer and the final boss. As an experienced hardcore souls veteran, I was super disappointed. I asked my other souls fanatic and he said he was also disappointed with the length.
The bonfire locations are horrible. There are too many. They catered to the people who complain about the difficulty. Why can't we have just one per area. You die half way in well you'll learn not the make that mistake again. In ds3 there could be more than five bonefires in one area. Bloodborne had one lamp per area. So be careful. The game is dark souls 3 is disconnected. Bloodborne fells like ds1. Shortcuts matter in bloodborne while in dark souls 3 there are enough bonfires for you to never ever need a shortcut. The only useful Shortcuts to me were in lothric castle.
Bloodborne fells connected like ds1, ds3 feels like ds2 but with better environments. Dark souls 2 has better enimies.
This is not about personal opinion this is pure fact. I'm not being biasd I'm in new game plus 4 in ds3 and new game plus 8 in bloodborne. I know the games and Bloodborne is a much better game. This fight needs to happen as it shows Misaki Cleary couldn't handle two games.
And the weapon changed in bloodborne have real advantage. The longer axe is better for many enimies. The cane changing to a whip making range and speed better. Holy blade being small and fast for small enimies, big for big enimies. Bloodbornes weapon changes have a real impact during gameplay.
After all that bloodborne has much better world design and much better combat.

***** also I'd like to add healing where in dark souls you can never run out of estus meaning you can use five and have five when you respawn. In bloodborne you have to keep track of your viles because you could easily run out and respawn with nothing at all.
      Same with bullets.

So what happens if you kill the queen first and left her in pieces then invite Alfred to the castle?

Nice one, Fungo! I love all these Bloodborne related videos. This game was GOTY 2015 for me, after the massive letdown of MGSV and Fallout, Bloodborne had no competition in my book (I don't really care about The Witcher, never got into it).
Really looking forward to your Dark Souls 3 related videos (especially the Fungo Review), I bought it a couple of days ago and I'm loving every second of it.

+Mr. Painless85 MGSV and Fallout 4 were undoubtedly the two hypest games that were some of the most mediocre of the year. I did not believe it was possible.

Did the nobles eat their men ? All the ghosts appear to be women. With the marriage proposal being refused and suggesting it would end your life, and with the blood splatter in front of the queen being mostly on the side of the empty chair, it just make me think she would do things to you that involve sucking. Your blood. Maybe I'm just grasping at straws tho, then again straws is exactly what she would need in that situation cos the mask wouldn't help, perhaps the mask is even put on her to insure she wouldn't eat someone again. Can you even propose her if you play as a woman ?
There are some men in the castle, maybe some of the servants are, I dunnow yet it wouldn't matter since they seem to be characterized as being worthless. But the gargoyles definitely are men. And they're not within the walls of the castle, act in a more sneaky way by trying to blend in with the environment. They are very skinny compared to the bloated ticks (are those all women ?) also outside. Are they acting this way because they were fleeing from the women inside the castle ? The wikia calls them "lost children of antiquity", which is hard to make sense of (especially given I've never played the game and only watched wlakthrough therefore never really delved deeply in the lore myself) but could it simply mean that they were patronized by the women of the castle as simple feeble minds whose time was past ? Maybe them being lost is more of a way to say that they got lost, fled, for the ones that didn't ran and hide got eaten, perhaps even willingly given how the queen makes no real secret that marriage would be quite a hazard for your health and doesn't expects you to be surprised by it.
I think Cainhurst was a society of strong independent women that needed no men. Tho honestly I'm just throwing out these ideas out without much thought put into them and no idea where to go from there.

I like alfred's "change" in character because its not really a change.. he just doesnt show it as well because one itself isnt a enemy of him.
