It's applies to no gi, just grab in other places
I feel like it's best for uke to lead on the okuri ashi barai drill. In other words, they step first with tori trailing behind slightly. I also like to lead and feel with my knee for a lot of my ashi waza. I try to teach students to rely less on their eyes and more on feel and timing.
