    Two of my buddies survived the hurricanes in Florida. There solar systems lost panels (impact damage) and one junction box was damaged. Having extra panels is something new I'm added to my preps. Their system still worked, but at less power once they disconnected the damaged panels.

    • @dustydawson8977
      @dustydawson8977 2 місяці тому

      It all depends on your type of system, they must have a DC system, my panels all work individual, so I don't even have to remove a bad panel, I'll loose the power of that panel but it doesn't affect the others. In a DC system, if 1 or more are damaged, or even shaded, it henders the whole system

    • @exploitthechildless1510
      @exploitthechildless1510 2 місяці тому

      @@dustydawson8977 I thought the errors they were seeing were interesting. These errors (ground fault) prevent the string from sending power until the fault was cleared. They did not have to replace the panel(s), but had to clear the fault before the string would send power.

    • @dustydawson8977
      @dustydawson8977 2 місяці тому

      @exploitthechildless1510 If the panel was damaged, sure it could be ground fault, but even shade on one panel will pull the overall power down on the whole system, on mine it just effects one panel not the whole system

    • @exploitthechildless1510
      @exploitthechildless1510 2 місяці тому

      @@dustydawson8977 Shade can be a problem, but with DC optimizers prevents shutting down the whole string. Only the panels that are shaded see less power production. In a natural disaster, maximum power production is important. I'm still amazed at how many people refuse to prepare for these events and demand the government help them. And we both know how well the government helps out in hurricane.

    • @dustydawson8977
      @dustydawson8977 2 місяці тому

      @exploitthechildless1510 Yea well if your waiting on the government, you may starve or freeze to death first. Optimizers are good, I have Enphase micro inverters on mine,so I know what you mean. Being unprepared for any number of things these days is just flat stupid. I'm stacked,packed,locked and loaded, with backups to my backups. But I have kids and grandkids that just don't get it, I'm just crazy! Where you think they will run when SHTF! How do they say it, your lack of preparation, doesn't constitute an emergency on my part, but if your willing to work for it, I can keep ya warm and fed

    An entire solar farm was wiped out by a tornado spawned from Milton outside Sebring, Florida on US27. 100s of acres of panels destroyed. I would say if the panels remain unscathed and the energy is stored, solar would be very beneficial, but renewables are vulnerable to natural disasters.

    We all need to rethink how to prepare. You have some good basic tips. We have a cabin in W-NC at a high elevation. No flooding issues at my location (below us had devastating floods)but serious wind damage and landslides from Helene took out our rain water tank, propane tank, cemented in the ground per spec solar array and additional food supply. Still no grid, cellular or terrestrial internet. Almost impossible to get there as the roads are gone also. Not sure what plan B is but never thought a hurricane could cause this much destruction inland. People that did have secure bunkers in TN and NC saw them wash away, even ones made of solid concrete.

    We seem to learn and then forget every time there is a major disaster.
    We were in the bullseye of Helene on Tuesday. Fortunately for us, the path shifted about 70 miles east, and we had zero issues. If the eye had passed over us like they were forecasting, it would have put Atlanta just east of the eye, and we all remember what happened in New Orleans with Katrina. Atlanta would have been a mess with rioting, looting, and killings.
    We simply can not be prepared for every eventuality.
    Preppers who spend all their efforts on guns and ammo? Waste of time.
    Preppers who have gas generators and one can of fuel?
    Waste of time.
    Preppers with solar backup when the sun doesn't shine for 6 days?
    Waste of time.
    Freezers full of food and no backup power?
    Waste of time.
    All of these things are dependent on the others. I saw several UA-cam videos with people who had generators and only owned a single gas can? That's okay for a 3 hour power outage, but that's about it.
    The term "prepping" gets a bad wrap because the media tends to focus on gun culture. Hint for all the preppers. If Armageddon or the zombie apocalypse comes, those guns and ammo may extend your life, but food and water will save your life.
    We are as prepared as we can be. Multiple generators, gas and dual-fuel. We keep 25 gallons of gas and 200# of propane on the farm. We run the gas through mowers and vehicles at least every 60 days to ensure it stays fresh. I crank all 3 generators at least once a month and run them for 15 minutes or so.
    We have 4 freezers full of food. We can vegetables. We freeze dry fruits. We have at least a year's worth of food for 4.
    We keep 10 cases of bottled water and rotate it. I drink a lot of water and take bottles when I'm fishing, so we keep that pretty fresh. We also have a lake in our property and 2 spring fed creeks, so water isn't an issue. We would need to boil it, and we do have a couple of filters for drinking.
    We have some solar capabilities. At least enough to keep our food frozen. I have 2 of the Bluetti units and 2k of solar panels. I've done the testing, and it works, but it is a bit of a pain to deal with.
    Guns. Lord, I have guns. I love guns and have been collecting them all of my adult life. When our kids were younger, it was normal for us to blow through 5k rounds of 22lr over a weekend. Now that they are all grown, 5k rounds lasts us 10 years. I've gotten into shooting suppressed and thermal shooting in the last few years, so I'm mainly shooting bolt action rifles.
    All of this could be rendered moot by a tornado. I know that, but I can't prepare for 150mph winds destroying everything I own.
    I hope my kids understand how lucky we were with Helene.

    The gas station issue is solvable, States should require by law that all gas stations have working generators large enough to power the pumps, and the store, they should be Dual or Tri fuel if there is natural gas in the area, or they should run on propane, and reg gasoline. The reason is if you run only on gasoline, and you don’t run the generator dry, and then empty out what gas is left in the Carburetor bowl it’ll gum up if left to sit and be hard to start the next time you start it. Next mandate all gas stations have Star link, this will give them both a phone, and internet link. This would allow use of credit, and debit cards. Seeing what is going on in the Carolina’s I would recommend that every police, fire station, school, library, and church have a Star Link mini as standard equipment, along with battery packs, and a Dual fuel generator. Governments should do this in their budgets for the police, fire departments, libraries, and schools, and church groups should do this for their churches. With the infrastructure destruction in the South East Star Link became the primary communications device.

    Christ isn't going to save you; if Christ/God gave you this life, it is to save yourself, you are responsible for your decisions, stop praying and asking for things, this is just trying to change God's plan, why would you want the plan changed just for you, do you doubt His wisdom? If you don't doubt there is never a need to pray, you already have everything you need; if God made man in His own image, he made us gods. You are a god, yet you don't realize your power. God has no power, He is immortal, everything is super easy for Him; we are mortal, we continue on even though we have much more limited power and are mortal, so we are in a sense much stronger than God; God can't lose, we can.. that's what makes us all powerful, and God a weakling. Who is more powerful, someone that is living in a rigged game with all the cheat codes to the universe, or someone that plays the game without cheat codes? We have all the power.

      I filed for SSI. It took SSI 3 years to start paying me.
      I exhausted my savings, then I had to cash in my state pension. The government charged me 40% in taxes because I had to cash in my retirement early.
      I exhausted my pension. I was going to lose my home.
      I was crying out to my Lord Jesus Christ.
      Someone stepped in and began to make my mortgage payments, taxes and insurance. Another person started paying my utilities. Another person was paying my cell phone bill.
      Yes I had to start receiving food stamps.
      It wasn’t easy. I had to swallow my pride.
      In 11 I started receiving my SSI and the people who were helping me asked for Nothing in return. I asked them why they had done everything for me. They told me that the Lord Jesus Christ had spoken to them and told them what I needed.
