Justine,
I love your videos. You know how to keep them short and sweet.
That white paste behind the flowers was gorgeous.😊
Thanks so much!
I've never seen the ironing technique. I agree; it has to be a super special card if I'm going to spend a lot of time on it.
Thank you for sharing Justine.
Me too! Long projects aren’t my favorite…but I have been known to craft in installments. I will make backgrounds all at once and put them aside. Or layered flowers or stamped images…and then make them into cards in a different crafting session
OMG i'm only half way through your video and feel so mega inspired by it and i suddenly think of all kind of other products i have and things i can do with them, thx so much for your inspiring examples and inspirational talk 😀😘👍, LOVE your channel!
Thanks so much!
A variation on the Joseph's Coat technique that saves even more time is to start with a colorful patterned paper. Clear heat emboss your design over it, add the black ink, & you're done! No ink blending & drying that involved. I've done this, and it can really look cool. Thanks for the tips, Justine. Take care, & have an awesome day! :)
love this idea, I'll have to try it!
Well, I agree with Candy - making lots of backgrounds at one time works really well for me too.
But, I am a artist that works in oil paints. when working in oils you acquire a level of "patience" because sometimes the oil paint has to be given TIME to dry before painting again. Because of this acquisition of "patience" I guess I am more geared, than most, to the waiting game. With being an artist my family EXPECTS a mini work of art when their cards arrive :)
Great ideas! Loved the subtle white paste through the stencil, it really took that card up a few notches! Layered stamps are often disappointing to me, they look flat and fake oftentimes. I have tried a bit of ink blending on them to make them more realistic, but it’s time consuming. I tend to watercolor or ink smoosh papers to get more gradients for the layering dies, then a bit of touch up for details, again time consuming but if I do a batch of them, put them into the envelope with the dies I then can just grab one or two and add it to a background quickly! It’s actually relaxing some days to do this vs making a totally finished project! I do the same with sentiment dies and stamps, just store them in a binder with pocket pages. Thanks for all you share, really appreciate your clear tutorials! 🌷😀
Great video, Justine - as always! Loved the Joseph's Coat, but my favorite was the layered daisies on the gold "frame" - gorgeous!! These tips are inspiring...thank you so much.
I find that when I use wet media to make backgrounds, I'm happiest if I make a batch with no expectation of finishing a card in that session. This applies to the shaving-cream technique, using powdered watercolor pigments, and other things that tend to require cleanup. (Alcohol ink work would qualify if I used those as well.)
I've lately been more apt to do layered (and some that aren't even layered) die-cut florals using watercolor paper and coloring the pieces individually, or using a previously created (usually ink smooshed) panel to cut the pieces. If I were inclined to make multiples, layered stamping would make more sense to me, but I tend to avoid both.
I'm not apt to regularly pull out the iron to remove embossing, but it's one of those things I might do some time.
I don't have a laminator, so my foiling (which I've done for a long time using sticky media) happens even less often than using metal leafing. I did get some duo gel, so I can use my die cut machine to get a good pattern transfer, but mostly I'll use tape for lines or a die-cut from double-sided tape.
Thank you for your techniques. I agree drying time sometimes takes longer than you want. However, it you get the effect you want, it's worth it. You are awesome and I love your techniques and tips.
I also like a 15 min card! I have some pastes/gels which I have not used. Now I will try them! Thanks for your continued inspirations.
Yes Joseph’s coat is one of my favorite techniques! I have not tried the iron off yet but I did like the mat look! The daisy card is gorgeous!
Hi Justine. Loved the video. I find that I have to be in the mood to do cards that are going to take a long time. I have learned to NOT work on them unless I can devote the necessary time because innate, leaving a project unfinished. If it is not finished, I just don't want to go back to it. 😊
Great Technique’s Justine, thank you!!
Thanks!
Thank you so much Deborah! I appreciate this :)
I need to get some transfer gel for sure! I like your ideas Justine! I’m like you and tend to only do cards i can accomplish quickly, though i do have several layering dies and love the look when finished. That said I do not color things that need a lot of blending or shading like animals. I also do not like scene building but I appreciate the look when others do them. I don’t generally go for cutesy cards unless I’m making them for my granddaughters.
Clean and simple is my go to.
I do enjoy Joseph’s coat, it it can be really hard to be sure the ink blending is completely dry. I’ve messed up a few pieces when I haven’t bothered to check (and check again) that the card is dry. I do the test by tipping white embossing powder on and seeing if it tips off easily. Of course I use a powder tool, but it takes forever sometimes to make sure it is dry. I usually use Distress Oxide inks. Perhaps it might be quicker with Catherine Pooler inks. Not tried with them yet.
It definitely is because of the oxides - they have pigment in them. Use a heat tool to dry and you should be perfectly fine. Catherine Pooler inks are straight dye inks and dry within a few seconds (like all dye inks) which makes it a bit easier.
Thank you Justine, appreciate these very useful tips and technic!
Love this video, as always, gives lots of inspiration. Are you planning on making any videos to use up paper like paper pads, Scraps or wallpaper samples anytime soon? Would love to see some ideas.

I wish! I don’t think I’ve made a card yet in less than 2 hours - I’m definitely one for the time consuming, detailed and intricate cards. I can’t seem to do simple.
I always wondered why ppl spent so much time coloring in the background when Jo. coat would work faster. Good reminders !!
You definitely get a different look with colouring - a lot more depth and detail, but it's often a little too time consuming for my liking.
Great video. I have to pull out my pastes more often. What was the sticky sheet you used for your dies?
Love these techniques as well. I am wondering if instead of pulling out the ironing board you could add the copy paper, insert into parchment sleeve and run through laminator again?
It unfortunately doesn't get hot enough - I did try it!
great tips - wish the sound was a bit louder.
What are those white things (maybe magnetic), that you are using to hold your stencils in place? Love your video's. I hate to wait for paste drying times, but love the outcome.
Mary I think it’s a glass mat which is also magnetic so the white things are magnets.
Exactly what Lori said, they came with my glass mat which is magnetic
How did you know I spent a good 2 hours gluing stacks of flower die cuts together this morning? Now I have plenty for future cards - just pull a few from the bin when I need them.
QUESTION, Please … I’m trying to figure out why you’d have multiple projects “in the works”. In MY CASE it’s because I dream up a card, but then can’t find (within my budget!) the various sentiments or illustrations IN THE NEEDED SIZES. All things I don’t have ready access to. I don’t mean to sound flip, but could “access” even be the reason why your projects don’t come to completion within few days (if not 20 minutes) ?
For me I doubt it’s access. If I need an image or sentiment I don’t have, I usually just print one from my computer. Generally I don’t dream up cards that are impossible for me to create because that would just make me not want to create or feel stuck. I can’t speak for everyone, if the issue is access, but I think for most it’s probably just things like waiting to dry, or simply starting something new and forgetting about the previous project. That kind of thing.
❤️❤️❤️
Layering stamps and layering stencils: I avoid them both.
Fantastic tips . Thank you.
