It's been such a long time since Lost rocked my world. Recently I've been watching tons of clips from the last season, including watching a few whole episodes. Because I felt like seasons 3-5 was kinda filler, except some few key moments, so I don't feel like rewatching the whole show. But in seasons 1-2 the show had the greatest potential ever.... Sure Lost changed TV in a certain degree, as all shows that were super popular did. But they had the potential to make the best show to date. And then I'm even on board with the whole island being teleported and timetravel stuff. But some questions still haunt me. Seeing/reading a theory is always fun because one might wonder about things, but it is still not the "actual" answer. Strange how the actual answer is just something another dude made up in his head, or a group of people, and sometimes we care so much about what they made up

I always thought that when Jacob touches them, he marks them in a sense. When he marks them they are destined for the island when the day comes. Also, he could be touching them to confirm that they truly are the special people that he needs to come to the island to replace him.
@DollyHot Smokey has made a previous comment about even while in his smoke form he cannot traverse large bodies of water. So he'd need one of the few methods of escape.

i think locke was simply a pawn jacob used to help jack find his path, perhaps locke was made to believe he was special and suposed to be the leader, so jack would eventually realize he had to do the same, thats why john had to die, to ensure jack would return and become the leader, we have been told numerous times jack is a natural leader. i think hurley will play a big part aswell for example he saw the cabin! i think the others time is over, the losties are the new others. my theory :D

I did a little research on this and basically the writers took a bunch of different religious stories christian/eqyptian/greek/buddhist/hindu/muslim etc etc. and threw them all together. Sticking with that theme the sister being taken ( Claire, jack's sister) is very important to the story. Obviously a few resurections will be required. Someone has to be torn into pieces. And one brother must kill another brother or (betray) another. Jsut thought I'd throw that out there see what u guys think?

did you notice too that when hJacob revived Locke after the fall, he told him "...i'm sorry this happened to you" what is he sorry about? probably because he knew everyhting John locke was about to go through and where it would all end. John locke was sacrificed to save the island. Jacob knew the outcome of bringing Locke to the island, he knew it would lead to himself being stabbed. A good player doesn't just beat his opponent, he out thinks him. He leads their actions to benefit his own.

Maybe these flashbacks did not originally happen in their lives. Maybe because they have all been to the island we see Jacob visiting them in their past (Like Faraday telling Desmond to go see his mom at Oxford). The only problem with this is that he did not visit Juliet. But maybe that is because she was already on the island when the plane crashed.
For each person, he did something that made them be on the island in the sixth season. For the people who never left, he did something that made them get on the first flight (e.g. for Saywer, going to Sydney to kill the real Sawyer). For the people who left the island in season 4, he did something to make them go back (e.g. for Kate, the idea that she shouldn't steal (i.e. steal Aaron)).
Already heard this theory... Aparantly by touching them he 'writes' out there future if you will. He touched Kate when she stole, making her a criminal and being on flight 815. Touched Sawyer so he'd continue to write his letter and shoot the guy in Australia etc. Basically so they all end up on the island and become a protection for Jacob if you will...
Remember what he said to Jack. Something about how sometimes it needs a little push... When we buy from a vending machine, the proper course of action is us getting the thing we bought. Many other things need to be explained, like why some people have special powers? (excluding Jacob, The Monster and Richard) And why so many people in the story have their father and/or mother killed before the crash?
Basically the point of the whole thing was to crash a plane have everybody go through all this crap, just to convince jack to be a leader for ten minutes to plug up a hole that desmond unplugged, which could have been done with the equipment from the darma initiative, and then he dies... I'm sure Ben or Richard would have done that along time ago, heck Jacob could have unplugged that thing a long time ago and then killed the MIB, When you think of it like that, nothing else matters!

I understand what it looks like. However, the Dharma Initiative called the Smoke "Cerberus" which was the 3 headed dog who guarded the underworld in Greek/Roman mythology. Basically the Man in Black was fused with Cerberus when he went into the source. Jacob talks about the island as a cork that keeps evil at bay. And if the Man in Black leaves, the evil will spread. Essentially if he lets the Man in Black leave, the guardian to hell will not be there, and evil, all the souls of hell will be able to leave hell and roam about the real world... That's why he won't let him leave.

reksub10 Anytime! The scene with Jacob and Richard and the wine bottle made me believe that the Island was the cork, the wine was evil, and the bottle was hell. Hence why Jacob wouldn't want his brother to leave. Had it just been his brother pre-merge with the smoke monster, than I'm sure he would have seriously considered letting him leave. But after they merged, he knew he couldn't. And I love that you put the 3 forms in perspective, never thought of it that way. However, I think of the monster as Cerberus for the scene with Mr. Eko and Yemi on the island. When the monster first encounters Eko, he doesn't attack him since he is a man of God. However, later when the monster as Yemi asks for Mr. Eko's confession, and Eko says he is not sorry for the sins he's committed and the people he murdered, the smoke monster kills him. A) He's not a candidate so Smokey can kill him. But B) I think of it as since he is not sorry, the guardian of the underworld said, well, you don't deserve to be alive anymore and brought him there. Just my thoughts (I get bored and watch the show a lot hahaha)

If one theory is correct the touching doesnt mean anything other than symbolism for what Jacob is aiming to achieve. It says there is going to be an event on the island that will end the world and these people are the ones believed to cause this event. Jacob is aiming to manipulate these candidates so that some minute thing will alter the course of fate. I'm so excited for the finale
Maybe these flashbacks did not originally happen in their lives. Maybe because they have all been to the island we see Jacob visiting them in their past (Like Faraday telling Desmond to go see his mom at Oxford). The only problem with this is that he did not visit Juliet. But maybe that is because she was already on the island when the plane crashed.
For each person, he did something that made them be on the island in the sixth season. For the people who never left, he did something that made them get on the first flight (e.g. for Saywer, going to Sydney to kill the real Sawyer). For the people who left the island in season 4, he did something to make them go back (e.g. for Kate, the idea that she shouldn't steal (i.e. steal Aaron)).

Aparantly by touching them he 'writes' out there future if you will. He touched Kate when she stole, making her a criminal and being on flight 815. Touched Sawyer so he'd continue to write his letter and shoot the guy in Australia etc. Basically so they all end up on the island and become a protection for Jacob if you will...
Remember what he said to Jack. Something about how sometimes it needs a little push... When we buy from a vending machine, the proper course of action is us getting the thing we bought. If that course of action is interrupted, we have to push it a bit for things to return to what they should be. Jacob did just that with Jack and the others. yeah i guess your right, it does make you think, theyre not there to rescue them, so mabye he did die for no reason, but he did warn them because if he didnt tell desmond then they may have never been suspicious about the frieghter folk and that may have got them all killed, what was just as sad as his death though, when they all met up at the cockpit and hurley told claire charlie was dead, that was just as sad as his death. thinking about it, i loved charlie! at least hes on flash foward tho!

Many other things need to be explained, like why some people have special powers? (excluding Jacob, The Monster and Richard) And why so many people in the story have their father and/or mother killed before the crash?

Basically the point of the whole thing was to crash a plane have everybody go through all this crap, just to convince jack to be a leader for ten minutes to plug up a hole that desmond unplugged, which could have been done with the equipment from the darma initiative, and then he dies... I'm sure Ben or Richard would have done that along time ago, heck Jacob could have unplugged that thing a long time ago and then killed the MIB, When you think of it like that, nothing else matters!
By touching them they became like Richard Alpert. They wouldn’t be able to kill themselves or age. The MIB wouldn’t be able to kill them as well. Pretty clever

I understand what it looks like. However, the Dharma Initiative called the Smoke "Cerberus" which was the 3 headed dog who guarded the underworld in Greek/Roman mythology. Basically the Man in Black was fused with Cerberus when he went into the source. Jacob talks about the island as a cork that keeps evil at bay. And if the Man in Black leaves, the evil will spread. Essentially if he lets the Man in Black leave, the guardian to hell will not be there, and evil, all the souls of hell will be able to leave hell and roam about the real world... That's why he won't let him leave.

reksub10 Anytime! The scene with Jacob and Richard and the wine bottle made me believe that the Island was the cork, the wine was evil, and the bottle was hell. Hence why Jacob wouldn't want his brother to leave. Had it just been his brother pre-merge with the smoke monster, than I'm sure he would have seriously considered letting him leave. But after they merged, he knew he couldn't.
And I love that you put the 3 forms in perspective, never thought of it that way. However, I think of the monster as Cerberus for the scene with Mr. Eko and Yemi on the island. When the monster first encounters Eko, he doesn't attack him since he is a man of God. However, later when the monster as Yemi asks for Mr. Eko's confession, and Eko says he is not sorry for the sins he's committed and the people he murdered, the smoke monster kills him. A) He's not a candidate so Smokey can kill him. But B) I think of it as since he is not sorry, the guardian of the underworld said, well, you don't deserve to be alive anymore and brought him there. Just my thoughts (I get bored and watch the show a lot hahaha)

I think that the reason there are polar bears on the island is because they are the ones that would move the island! Come on! when ben moved it looked all cold and then he ended up in the desert. We also saw that charlotte found some bones of a polar bear in the desert too! Random theory for you!
