For me, 77 year old former music candidate, my limited improvisational skills are what keeps music being an expression of life's essential core. I would love to hear more Schubert-like improvisations, too, such as variations on a theme, or song-like adagios, nothing virtuoso, but like Schubert painted moods and thoughts with his last piano sonatas, those famous ones in Bb major and G major. You probably have experimented with analysing how JS.Bach could improvise, and the wealth of techniques in his works must tell us something about the way he "worked" to conceive music compositions. By doing an improvisation like this, you show that classical music idiom can be used today with great effect.
