Great review. I asked my dad, when I was 10, after I received Torpedo, what a Navy SEAL was. He explained that a SEAL can jump out of an airplane really high, parachute into the ocean, sneak up on land, take out the enemy, then leave on a raft they had in their equipment, and nobody even knew they were there. The first three versions of Battle Gear gave him plenty of weapons and our rec room was about 20x15. Put out a blue 70s fuzzy blanket, voila water. I received a second Torpedo so I could disassemble broke thumb Bazooka in 85, and now Torpedo had a unmasked visage. Loved taking things apart when I was 12. And yes, my brother and I had real Chinese throwing stars.
I remember this was my 3rd GI Joe figure ever! it went COBRA trooper, Doc, and Torpedo. after that, I haven't the foggiest! I do remember that I got to choose Torpedo myself at the store though. CT and Doc were X Mas gifts
Agreed about his simple-yet-striking colour scheme, but I think his look would've been better if he'd had some painted details, perhaps on his belt and the devices on his legs. The thing I see that's really great about this guy, though, is that he's visually non-distinct. If you wanted to, you could cast him as a generic and build a whole team of him, playing out grand Thunderball-style underwater battles.
I use to have a butterfly knife and nunchucks and ninja stars my parents were cool they put me in Taekwondo and Kick boxing I had parents who were interested in Karate type things my dad grew up in American Karate and got his black belt so he was all for us in the Martial arts
The cover of GI JOE yearbook #2, Michael Golden gave Torpedo, correct me if I'm wrong, an M-60 and he looks a lot better with that! I always felt disappointed by the darned harpoon. Anyhoo, I'll try to force an aftermarket M-60 into his hands.
I kind of liked torpedo. I had the Water Moccasin and the Hydrofoil, but no Joe Water Vehicles, so he was my go to guy for any sea based missions. I think his color scheme worked better than Wet Suits' too ! Nice Review as usual.
i remember having 3 of these, one from christmas, one from a friend ,and one from a friend as a birthday gift. I always used him as a generic diver soldier
Wow!! Another awesome review. Thanks. Also, thanks for sharing those memories on GI Joe battles. So cool. I do have a question. Was it Wet Suit that was competing all the time with Leatherneck on the cartoon?
cool figure but he could have gotten a few other weapons to fight on land , would have liked to see a better head on this one, looks more cobra like imo, the cobra Eals have better looking heads and have a good diver - look to it ... any way cool fig :)
Most masks and a lot of the helmets or goggles or anything like that aren't removable. What are you gonna do? It's an OK figure. I probably prefer Wet-Suit. Way more detail. No weapons though. Eh.
When I was a kid playing with torpedo and before I understood who he was I thought he was a female joe figure. Having the small feet a hidden face and what appeared to me as a small bust line. I just assumed torpedo was always a girl.
He looks sleepy, not good for a Navy SEAL trooper and a spear gun is a one shot weapon completely unsuitable for anything other then spearing tropical fish. I think Hasbro needed to do more research on Navy SEALs and their gear and weapons. A second more updated version would not have gone amiss in 1985 had they done that.
Torpedo was one of my favorite G I Joe figure, great review as always
TheDarthvalen I'm glad you enjoyed it!
You got it

cool review
Awesome 👏
G.I. Joe Torpedo is a great action figure, it's simple and not overly detailed for a collectible toy. I love it.
like Snowjob, Torpedo was a very specialized but still very cool figure

First figure I got.

I had Torpedo and I though he was pretty cool. As for his harpoon gun, I just imagined it was some sort of laser rifle.
I use to have a butterfly knife and nunchucks and ninja stars my parents were cool they put me in Taekwondo and Kick boxing I had parents who were interested in Karate type things my dad grew up in American Karate and got his black belt so he was all for us in the Martial arts
GI Joe is where as a kid, I was introduced to the word "Torpedo"
Cool! I have it with the file card!
Haslab should make a new Torpedo !!!
Torpedo was my 2nd Joe that I got after Ripcord back in the day.
wild bill is a warrant officer.
Would make a good James Bond action figure

sonic360 Thanks! Your Torpedo had plenty to do, fighting Cobra's navy all by himself.
I lost one of my torpedo flippers today at the beach
It's too bad he didn't come with an MP5 or something so he could fight along with the other joes.
shipwreck memories!
Torpedo pre-dates Shipwreck?
AnnMarie Evetts Yes, Shipwreck was from 1985.
Great review as usual, dude!
Droopy is a great way to describe his expression.
I feel those orange things are oxygen tanks so he can breath underwater.
i remember having 3 of these, one from christmas, one from a friend ,and one from a friend as a birthday gift. I always used him as a generic diver soldier
Russian made APS rifle for forg mans & submarine crews !
Those tube worms gave me a headache once.
sirkowski It's hard to imagine a more horrible sound. It's like fingers across a balloon, through an amplifier.
Aiea is pronounced "Eye-A-uh." Aiea and Honolulu are on the island of Oahu.
So my favour guys was " Deep Six " - G . I Joe diver , " Uptown " - Destro frog man & Hydro Viper ...
I feel this is a great figure also torpedo made a lot of appearances in the comics.
Why would torpedo have a helmet on in a wet-suit even if the mask was removable that would look extremely out of place.
Wow!! Another awesome review. Thanks. Also, thanks for sharing those memories on GI Joe battles. So cool. I do have a question. Was it Wet Suit that was competing all the time with Leatherneck on the cartoon?
Neal G Thank you! Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was Wet Suit that interacted with Leatherneck in the animated series.
Yes. I caught it on TV this morning. Thank you, sir.

MP 5 N or M4 Seal Recon Rifle could be OK for him ...
scubadiver

Torps totally looks like its meant to be a female mould....
Tim Roper Now that you mention it, they could have made Torpedo a woman without changing much.
Wimpy figure.
he reminds me of stinky diver.
