Great review! When I saw this version on the back of the card art, I had to have the toy. In '85, I asked my parents to get me the figure that looked all black when they went out shopping. They brought me Eels, and that wasn't disappointing, but it wasn't Snake Eyes. What was my seven year old self thinking?! Then I saw a kid had him in the neighborhood, I traded a figure for it, but the kid stole him back. That same year in '87 I saw him on the pegs at a Long's Drugs store, and I begged but my folks didn't have to cash to spare. It wasn't until 1994, when I was in high school when I told a classmate I was buying GI JOEs. The next day he sold me his complete Snake Eyes for $8! Thankfully I still have the figure.
Congrats on getting your hands on one! It is a nice figure. I could be wrong, but I think Snake Eyes v2 was a little harder to find on the pegs than most figures. That may have just been high demand. Who wouldn't want Snake Eyes?
I finally just got my hands on a complete one with file card, but it cost me $50 on Ebay which appears to be the going rate. :( Still happy that I finally got him though.
I started collecting as an adult in April 2018, and i picked up a sweet looking Snake Eyes (great paint, great joints) with his backpack & Timber for $16. Great deal. I copped his uzi for $15. I got his sword for $15 as well because I copped one with a bent tip. Otherwise, it probably would have been $25. I flattened the sword tip out pretty damn good, so I basically caught a complete Snake Eyes in great shape for $46. Sweet deal, particularly since so many ask between $50-85 shipped depending on quality of the figure & accessories. It's a cool ass figure. I caught Frankensteined a '84 Storm Shadow as well around the same time. Bought one that was yellowed, not really yellow....but still yellowed, for $12. I put the figure through the Salon 40 process and was able to get the legs, waist and back of the torso minty white without messing up any other colors. I couldn't get the arms, head or front torso anywhere as white without ruining the red logo (even using vaseline on the logo). So I caught another Storm Shadow (this time complete) for $45 that was also yellowed....but with a damn near perfect red cobra logo. I was able to whiten his sleeves, front torso and head using salon 40, almost as white as the parts from the other storm shadow, and I didn't mess up the skin or the logo. Took those whitened parts, put them together and BAMM....I had a very white.....COMPLETE Storm Shadow with a bright red logo....for just under $60. So now.....i have both. Sorry bout all the details and going into SS as well. Yo Joe!
Great job on the review. V2 Snake Eyes, along with 1984 Firefly, are and always will be my favorite figures of all time. I still remember the day I was actually at the store, with cash in hand, and one Snake Eyes figure still left on the peg. Greatest day of my life up to that point.
Excellent review 👌Snake Eyes was the first figure that started it all for me. I remember going round my local toy shops trying to find him eventually picking him up in the very last shop before going home. I remember being so happy that I found him. I loved that figure then and I still love it today even if I've moved on to the modern versions of Snake Eyes. Thanks for bringing back the good memories I had with this figure 👍Oh and if you can't tell I'm a big fan of Snake Eyes 💥💥💥💥
One of the greatest GI Joe characters and figures ever created. If you don't have this figure in your collection your not a true fan of G.I. Joe. And on a side note that ending was bad ass I dug how you had storm shadow turn into Zartan. Now that's poetic justice.
Well, that's bullshit, that if you don't have this figure in your collection, you're not a true fan. I have the first version of Snake Eyes, but I don't have this one yet. But, I have over 200 other Joe's and 50 or so vehicles, and playsets, but I guess I'm not a true fan. What an asinine thing to say.
@@christianhafer9819Definitely agree with you Christian. Most Joe fans are lucky if they can find and afford this version. It was just a sheer stroke of luck that I found this figure with a busted o ring in mint condition in an assortment of Transformers and Go Bots.
@johnsoehnlen4781 For sure. And I have it now, by the way. I have all the artic vehicles now as well. I picked up the Ice Sabre, Ice Snake, and the Blockbuster all recently. And the Scorpion, because I had thst as a kid.
Naw, Storm Shadow did badass things as well. The "Boba Fett of GI Joe" AKA, a character with a cool look, and a overrated reputation, would probably be someone like Firefly. Now I love Firefly, and his version 1 figure is as cool as it is iconic. But his actual deeds and accomplishments in the comics and cartoon aren't terribly impressive. Even later on, when they retroactively made him a ninja, and had him take on all of Ninja Force, he admitted that he knew all along that he'd never be able to take Snake Eyes in a fight, and got Zartan to carry out the assassination for him just to cover his own ass. That's sort of clever, but kind of cowardly as well.
this was the character I wanted the most out of any when I was a kid! never found it until the next version with the butterfly swords on his chest came out! also found the 82 version (non swivel arm) at a Goodwill type store
I almost got him once! By 1986 he had become hard to find. I begged my mother to get it for me but she told me I had to wait until I got my allowance of Friday. I told her it wouldn't be there Friday but it was to no avail! I showed up that Friday and it was gone! Such a tragic story!
Nice review! I like this version of Snake Eyes never owned him the first version I had was 1989 and is still my favorite. I agree the early versions of Snake Eyes are better because they retain the Commando look before the line ninjafied everything. I can see him using that scimitar as a multi function tool to slice through heavy vegetation in a jungle as well as Cobra.
Love this figure. I guilted my dad into buying this I said dad, I gotta have this guy..he is so cool. Please??? Lol he was as well worn as my Storm shadow, super loose knees by the end of his days. 😎
Awesome review for an awesome figure what can I say about Snaky that hasn't already been said except I'd love to see a completely white Snake Eyes that be interesting 👁🔺️🏯
@@mrdonigan It upsets me that it was actually Zartan that nearly got the best of Snake Eyes here and not actual Storm Shadow but a fantastic fight sequence regardless. Highly entertaining.
One of the best figures of the original run. I wish I'd been able to get Storm Shadow at the time to fight him. Sadly, when they released the second version of Storm Shadow I passed on him strictly because he wasn't the 'right' version. Same with Battle Armour Cobra Commander.
i love joes and as a kid..was introduced at the very start. its weird how tastes can change among us...v2 storm shadow is my fav fig of all time..and battle armour CC was my fav version of him (i had both the helmit and hooded versions at the time). Awesome review! I love this figure with a passion. I need to get another one and retire my old one. I remember when I first saw Snake Eyes when I saw the 1987 movie, I thought he was a knight. That was because of his visor and the fact the he had a sword aha. I must have been 4 years old at that time.
+Silent Wobby Some reviewers have commented that his visor looks like a knight's facemask. Ron Rudat has said he got the idea from Geordi LaForge in Star Trek:TNG, but he must be misremembering, because Snake Eyes v2 predates Star Trek TNG.

I do like *this* version of Snake Eyes (from 1985, wearing all black outfit with slotted Knight-style visor) [and seen in the majority of episodes of the 80s Sunbow G.I. That's *four* versions of him I like. By 1985, the 1982 character Snake Eyes was deemed as just 'irreplaceable', hence, rather than replacing him with another character, Hasbro just changed his outfit. Now I'm aware why he was always masked in the cartoon, and why he never spoke - his vocals were damaged by shrapnel from an explosion, which additionally left his face scarred (so he *is* incapable of speech).

It seems the Deadpool character's disfigurement was inspired by Snake Eyes. My favorite and only Snake Eyes that I got when I played was the 1989 one. I am fond of the Arctic Trooper version with the parka that was produced with the 25th Anniversary line.
easily on the short list of best gi.joe figures..and my 2nd fav figure in the classic line. he was all badass. i never could get him thru retail since he FLEW off the shelves. here is my story on how i got him...JUST before i lost interest in toys..maybe 1 or 2 years before....i walked out the steps of my house and came across a pile of figures in a plastic bad on the side of the road. my street was a common walk way for people to catch the bus and i think some kid with family was heading somewhere and just dropped it. inside that TREASURE BAG...like 8-10 figures strong..i got some vipers...and HELMET COBRA COMMANDER, SILVER HEADED DESTRO, GOLD HEADED DESTRO, SNAKE EYES V2, DUKE, and i forget who else. none of the figures had their accessories but were all MINT...hardly a scratch in the lot...save for i think gold destro...his helmit head wasnt right. needless to say these were MAGICAL additions to my set and in my waning years of playing with joes i made up for lost time. No one beat snake eyes..neither in the battlefield or the makeshift wrestling league i was a promoter at the time. ;-) a multi belt champ with the best scorpion deathlock the world has ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's awesome! What a great way to pick up Snake Eyes! Yes, I do remember this figure being incredibly popular at the time, and kind of hard to get. He's popular NOW! His accessories can run a little high. He is worth it, though. I do love version 1, but this figure really feels like Snake Eyes to me.
i think your videos are making me going to have to get the classic line version. i do have his updated 25th anniversary one...but that might not be enough. You are the best g.i. joe reviewer out there!!! (no diss to formbx intended). Please keep it up and you simply ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice review of a popular figure. I never warmed to this version of Snake Eyes myself but I know this is how most fans remember him. I also concede that between the wolf and the sword you get a lot of extra play value. I just wish he didn't have that damn visor. Hated it as a kid, hate it now. I am, of course, in the minority. Again, great review. I know you've probably got your next couple of reviews planned but I just wanted to plant this in the back of your mind: The 1987 Drednok Cycle. I'm curious about it and I've never seen one in person. The concept seems like a natural but I'm not sure they pulled it off. I'd like to get your take... when you have the time and the resources; I know it's low priority.
these figures go for well over $100 on ebay now complete in good condition. I got mine for $50 mint. and had to pay an extra $25 for a mint sword. most were in bad shape. it was really hard to find. Im only missing his backpack and timber right now. but those pieces are much cheaper to aquire on ebay then the figure and sword.
Well am regret that I never had that version in my team ... My Snake Eyes was version 3 with strange : " Hole sword " , muonchaku ... Thanks for great video ... By the way this sword could be Chinese because I spotted something similar in old Kung fu movies ...
I think in the comics he was doing that before the helicopter crash back when he could speak. In one of Scarletts flash backs before the crash he is an instructor.
The macho man to bad randy savage never joined G.I joe like sgt. slaughter or roddy pipper cause then they could of added his manger and given the joe team another girl .

i could have got him but used to buy cobras alot i would firefly and other cobras instead like crimson guard.
I have the 25th Anniversary Snake Eyes which is probably based on this one.
He should be at least E-7..
Always bugged me that a guy who can't talk is a hand to hand combat "instructor".
I think in the comics he was doing that before the helicopter crash back when he could speak. In one of Scarletts flash backs before the crash he is an instructor.
His birth name is Joe.
Zartan learned the Sleeping Phoenix...too late
Who would win in a fight: Snake Eyes or Batman?
I still have mine but he's REALLY messed up.
+sirkowski I'm sure he's seen a lot of battles.
It would be altogether unacctable for Snake-Eyes to be made anything but black.
No barky mcbarkbark
man i wonder how much $ u spent on gi joe
The macho man to bad randy savage never joined G.I joe like sgt. slaughter or roddy pipper cause then they could of added his manger and given the joe team another girl .
Commando just means that he doesn't wear any underwear
He's must have chartreuse underwear and socks.
Johnny Cash has nothing on Snake Eyes
This is the one an only Snake eyes! All others sucked.
