This shoe has helped me get back with my routine due to my Plantar Fasciitis issue. The zero drop , although getting my calves used to it, has really helped as I have been able to get my running back on track.
On the Altra website, buyer Beware!!! The one star to star and three star ratings are showing pictures and complaining about the narrowness comparing paradigm six to paradigm five. (Paradigm 6 is more narrow in the toe box and midfoot). According to the reviews on the Altra website. I'll be skipping these unfortunately. Looking forward to escalante 3 with the new wide edition!!👍
Really good review, Steve. Agree completely as a neutral runner that you don't really feel the stability support. I alternate between the Paradigm 6 and the Torin 6 for my training, but take advantage of the extra cusion (stack) in the Paradigm for my longer runs. I probably have about 10 runs in them so far and they feel great.
@@sptnk87 Biggest difference is stack height (+2mm for Paradigm) and the stabililty guardrails. I'm a neutral runner, but I like the rails on longer runs. Paradigm feels a little more plush but I suspect that may narrow once the 7 comes out for both lines. Hope that helps.
you are a great Altra spokesperson, always appreciate your videos and explanations. I used to run in the Paradigm 4.5 but that shoe did not wear well. You sold me the Paradigm 5 and it is my main running shoe. I felt there was big upgrades in that 5.0 From looking at the 6, the upgrades looks mostly visual rather than structural. Thanks for all the work you do in making this brand accessible to so many runners.
Really?, this looks like a completely different shoe, essentially a modernized Paradigm. I think Altra is finally realizing that other brands are really ahead in the upper design and materials, this is a step in that direction.
Nice review!! I haven't enjoyed the Paradigm since version 3 which I loved the best!! The five was too narrow in the mid foot for me so it was a no go. Really looking forward to getting my feet into a pair of these!! Also, love that t-shirt your wearing... Where might I purchase one??
Can anyone run in a 0 drop shoe? I had a knee scope and back fusion. My orthopedic surgeon says I can run but would be better if I could land less on my heel
@@brenthjen I know you asked your question a long time ago, but anyone can run in zero drop. Running predates the invention of shoes with clunky big heels. However, you might have a transitional period. Hope you’re running and doing well.

I had surgery on my calcaneus. When I finally returned to weight bearing, it was very painful. My one support group kept loving on Hoka Bondi...I tried those on and wasn't as impressed as I was with the Altra Paradigm. These are very floaty and stable for my post surgical needs.

Thanks for the detailed review..... I am starting to get into the Zero Drop shoes. Can you suggest me a good shoe to start with... I know its a bit of a silly question but let me know your thoughts. The pinky finger on my right has torn Adidas, Nike and now Asics. I feel the Toes get cramped in a normal wear shoe. Hence looking for something with a decent Toe Box ,great comfort, durability and grip over different terrains. Just to add on I have a neutral Foot. I havent decided for any budget so thats not a constraint.
I must say that I'm 800km in on the 4.5 version and still have a good 300km left in them I think! I never felt the stability pod things... but I'm excited to see what the guide rails feel like as my running mechanics are not perfect - but also not really bad either. So a gentle nudge is all I really need. Excited to see if I can get over 1000km in the new version, because it'll definitely win them some more brand loyalty from me!
I have to agree with the complaints/comments on the Stabilipods. I have the 4.5s and the outside Stabilipod causes me a good amount of discomfort on the lateral part of my foot. I like the guiderail and if the pods are eliminated on these, I will certainly give them a try.
Great review. This update look awesome, really excited to get my hands on a pair. Liked the last version but didn't love them. I have the new Torin and the new mid-sole is holding up great. I have high hopes for the Paradigm 6. New upper also looks more streamline/modern.
I usually use this as a recovery shoe after long runs and I love it. Recently I did a 30 mile run in the carbon vanish and my inner ankle has been bothering me. Is it possible that as my arches got tired that I began to pronate and this caused this inner ankle pain? Perhaps I should use the paradigm on all long runs until my ankles become stronger. Your thoughts?
Thanks for the review - I’m looking to switch from Saucony Hurricane to Altra b/c I’d like to get back into minimalist shoes since the Brooks PureCadence line is gone/ I have some pronation - thus on my 4th pair of Hurricane for the support and cushion - Q: would you recommend going into the Paradigm 6 or looking at the Torin 5?
Think a shoe like this will help a return to run from mild post tibial tendonitis pain? I do not pronate normally but had an ankle roll a few months ago and am trying to baby my foot back into running after taking a few weeks off.
I have been running in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS for years (over-pronator with borderline narrow feet and flat feet, bunion on my right foot and mild planter fasciitis right foot). I run a 5k on the road 4 times per week. Would the Altra Paradigm 6 be a good alternative? I am trying a pair of Hoka Arahi 5s right now. I feel a little hot spot or something where my bunion is. The Arahi 5 tends to run a little wide and the engineered mesh upper offers quite a bit of flexibility, so not sure what’s going on there. It is not as supportive, but more cushion compared to the Brooks Adrenaline GTS, so maybe that’s why…? Used to shoes with guiderails? Additionally, is it odd that the Adrenaline GTS feels better when standing/walking and the Hoka feels better when running? I don’t know what it is. Maybe I am trying to adjust to the new shoe since I’ve been running in another shoe for so long or just over thinking it all.
Nice review. Been wearing Torin for years. Discovered the new Torin 5 runs a half size short which Altra confirms. Looks like I’m going to try the Paradigm.
Awesome video! It just made me order those over the paradigm 5. I have sesamoiditis in my right foot and have been on crutches for a few weeks, which unfortunately caused the same issue now in the left foot. Everyone seems to love the hoka bondi to support healing from this while still being able to walk a bit. After I had to put my barefoot shoes in a box due to this I got a pair of Altra Olympus 4 and love them for walking short distances outside, now I'm looking for a shoe that I can use in daily walking and I think I just found it. Thank you!
Hi Steve thx for all your videos. I set of the year with a goal to run everyday but my old Morten’s N came back and that’s when I got my first pair of Altra’s and got the Paradigm 6 I’ve lived the cushioning but due to my MN I’ve been doing more walking than running and have even been doing some km20+ hikes in them. Question about sizing on the new Paradigm 6. The 5 fit fine with no issues and was wondering how they compare. The torin 5 was off, I usually wear a size 13 and the new torin was running narrow and short, sized up to 14 and all is good. Just hoping Paradigm 6 doesn't have the same issues. Thanks

This would likely be a great option for you. There is a little more cushion, that is firmer and more durable than the midsole of the Torin 4.5. In addition, it has a great arch profile which is ideal for plantar and some good stability
I have Paradigm 4, the ones you can see your socks thru. And that does not work very well here up in the Arctic (meaning they are only usable in late spring, summer and early autumn). In winter I will freeze my feet off in them. It is the most airy shoe I have ever had. As airy as an open sandal, I would say. Are Paradigm 6 just as airy or are they more fit for winter with cold degrees? I'm looking for an all year round shoe and Paradigm 4 is definately not that at all (but absolutely lovely in summer). If Paradigm 6 is more or less as extremely airy and breathable as the 4 is, that is not what I'm looking for to replace my pair of Nike. It is maybe better if I ask this way: Can you feel the wind blowing on your toes when walking in Paradigm 6?
The Paradigm 6 has a slightly more substantial upper than the 4 but is still a light and breathable shoe. If you are looking for something more durable up top with a little protection against water and the weather, you might want to look into Altra trail shoes, particularly the Olympus or Lone Peak.
@@RunMoore Thank you! :-) Now I now exactly what to look for. I have never really thought of trail shoes before. But, we have long winters up here in northern Norway, so yes, it makes perfect sense. I just have to decide between Olympus or Lone Peak, or buy both. Thank you again :-)

We are sorry to hear that! Those 4 examples are all max cushion and max stability, so there is not really an option that goes above any of those in terms of cushion or support. For a softer cushion, you might want to look into the Brooks Glycerin GTS.
Yes, thank you! I tried on the Paradigm 6 and loved everything except my outside toes were a tiny bit smooshed. I think I should try the men’s. I think I’ll come to your store. I am also in MD in Baltimore Co.
I really couldn't get on with the Paradigm 5, I currently use the Torin 4.5 Plush but really need some support. I hope these are more comfortable than the 5's for long distance
Anybody else has problems with the durability? After two months and 190km a small part of the outsole pealed off, almost lost it and the outsole looks quite bad, way worse than my Escalante 2.0 after 600km. Tried to replace them under warranty but no luck.
For your patio treadmill 5K (that's set for 45 minutes only then get off it), can you just do a long heel-slap sprint to warm up instead of all that other NONSENSE people recommend? Mine is only a 10MPH machine whose handicap crap i ripped off so the control unit's on the patio bench. i set it for 10MPH & then get on it without a warmup
Sprinting as a warm-up is not a good idea, as it highly increases the likelihood of hamstring and hip flexor injuries. We always recommend jogging for about 5 minutes before starting any workout.
Really want to give this shoe a go, but does anyone know if the paragrim 5 was more supportive? Also have torrin 5 and the cushion is not very supportive , I love the softness but felt it broke down too fast
Paradigm 5 and 6 are comparable in support, the paradigm 6 is a little firmer and therefore more stable so that should work well for you. The Torin is a neutral shoe so it is not surprising that it did not work out if you are a fan of the Paradigm.
The depends on your preference. Both shoes are max cushion and max stability, but the Gaviota is firmer while the Paradigm is a plusher cushion. Besides that, the main differences are the Paradigm has a wider toe box and is a zero-drop shoe, meaning the heel and the toe are on the same plane.
How stiff is the shoe? Does it bend back like the Torin 5 does? I'm looking for a stiffer shoe due to metatarsal issues and the Torin seems too flexible. This would normally be great but at the moment it isn't helping.
The paradigm is a road shoe and the Olympus is a trail shoe. Both the most cushioned Altra shoe in their respective category. Also, the Paradigm is more stable than the Olympus.
Yes, this would be more or less the stability version of the Torin 5. They both have the ego midsole and are considered max cushion shoes, although the stack height on the Paradigm 6 is higher than the Torin.
That depends on your preference. Compared to the Gaviota, this shoe is softer, more flexible, and has a lower heel-to-toe drop, while still providing high stability and cushion.
This shoe has helped me get back with my routine due to my Plantar Fasciitis issue. The zero drop , although getting my calves used to it, has really helped as I have been able to get my running back on track.

Would you recommend or say that these are Good for front strike running?
These have plenty of cushion all the way through the forefoot so they will be more than fine for a forefoot striker.
Is the Paradigm getting an update soon / in Q4 2022?
hey hows it going? im gonna buy P6, i think P7 is coming in few months
My normal shoe size is size 9. My altra 5 were 9.5. My altra 5 needs to be replaced so I wanted get the paradigm 6 do I get a 9.5 or a 9?
I would stick with the 9.5
Really want to give this shoe a go, but does anyone know if the paragrim 5 was more supportive? Also have torrin 5 and the cushion is not very supportive , I love the softness but felt it broke down too fast
Paradigm 5 and 6 are comparable in support, the paradigm 6 is a little firmer and therefore more stable so that should work well for you. The Torin is a neutral shoe so it is not surprising that it did not work out if you are a fan of the Paradigm.
Would you recommend these over Hoka Gaviota 3?
The depends on your preference. Both shoes are max cushion and max stability, but the Gaviota is firmer while the Paradigm is a plusher cushion. Besides that, the main differences are the Paradigm has a wider toe box and is a zero-drop shoe, meaning the heel and the toe are on the same plane.
How stiff is the shoe? Does it bend back like the Torin 5 does? I'm looking for a stiffer shoe due to metatarsal issues and the Torin seems too flexible. This would normally be great but at the moment it isn't helping.
It is definitely stiffer than the Torin but remains a very soft shoe.
Haha Freud with the superior. Awesome
Hi Steve
Is this going to be more cushion and soft than torin 5 ?
It will be the same type of foam as they both have the ego midsole.
@@RunMoore if I want a max cushion neutral will i be ok with escalante? Or is it torin plush 4.5 ? It’s for a friend who has plantar fasciitis
@@sumanthsamson6797 No, the Escalante is a very light cushion shoe. The Torin 5 is the max cushion neutral from Altra.
@@RunMoore torin 5 not available yet . Can u go for 4.5 plush
whats the difference between the paradigm and the olympus?
The paradigm is a road shoe and the Olympus is a trail shoe. Both the most cushioned Altra shoe in their respective category. Also, the Paradigm is more stable than the Olympus.
Looking for a half marathon shoes is this shoes fit for a half marathon I’m heavier runner
This is a maximum cushion shoe that is very plush so it should supply enough cushion and support for a half marathon!
Its stability analogue of torin 5 in this year lineup of altra?
Yes, this would be more or less the stability version of the Torin 5. They both have the ego midsole and are considered max cushion shoes, although the stack height on the Paradigm 6 is higher than the Torin.
Would this be better than Gaviota?
That depends on your preference. Compared to the Gaviota, this shoe is softer, more flexible, and has a lower heel-to-toe drop, while still providing high stability and cushion.
If I have flat feet - is zero drop ok for me?
Only way to find out is to try these out.
It'll be great if you ship internationally.
We hear you, one day we hope it will cost-prohibitive for us to offer international shipping
Super Ego is a way cooler term than Ego Max, so Freudian. Haha!
looks like good sure for someone who suffers from Plantar Fasciitis. (Like myself)
This is one of our best shoes for plantar fasciitis because of the good arch support and zero-drop platform!
