I would have gone a different way, but that doesn't mean I'm right and you are wrong. Just different. I love what you did, and wish more ppl did it. Not every laptop needs to be tossed away after it's had a fall or collision. Thank you for documenting this, and sharing.

I would have found some wood laying around in my garage, took some stand offs, screw them into the wood, slap the board onto the stands, powered it on and called it good. Amazing work.
That's why restoration is really good way to perform in all gadget even some broken can be use as a new one. I hope some diy laptop can be buy in market for some people that can't afford the brandnew unit Good project👍👍

definitely not how i would've done it as some others have said but i like the style a lot it really shows a realistic DIY with very minimal work that i think how most people would actually do even though i said i would've done differently but probably wouldn't have out of over estimating myself.

I found your really great, but just one suggestion whenever you design something, make sure you account for the required tolerances based on the material you will be using that way you won't have to resize it again to fit it properly. In Engineering we follow a standard Design guidelines to account for it, I am pretty sure you find similar guidelines for 3d printing online or in the machine manufacturers website.

Thnks !! As for the LEDS depends on the voltage… You can use the pins on USB yes if it is 5V or you can search for another 5v source on the motherboard…

I hate seeing laptops with broken screens and shells going to the landfill when they probably have really good components inside that still hold up. I wish a company made a modular case like this for laptops so that less would end up in the landfill. Good job.

Well you could use a battery i dont use because i have another laptop similar that uses the same battery and i keep it but you can also use that wall sockets with power surge protection…
haha.. I mean that was pretty obvious, but I was wondering if there was another work around that you can place on the system itself that's not pretty large. but placing the battery is probably the best idea.
Looks cool. I broke the screen of my Lenovo x220i when I accidentally bumped it off the table while chasing a mouse 😠😥. Fortunately, it still works, and a couple of 24" monitors are plugged in it as I like reading my documents, including online comics like manga, manhua, etc, on portrait mode. Sometimes, when I'm studying, I have my documents on auto scroll
Exposed led strips are not too appealing, otherwise pretty neat, should look at building one of these rescue builds into a custom mechanical keyboard like a Frankenstein, that would be really cool if you can get it thin enough

Hello, I have two laptop with broken lcd. I wanted to know, how did you managed to boot into BIOS without your laptop's screen? Connecting to HDMI doesn't help, there's no display on my external monitor.
Hey! Some models do not display image until boot to windows. This does that its cool for projects like that… In your case try connect a working display change the default display for hdmi and then try again…
I love that you did all that work and never cleaned out the CPU fan.

The micro atx cases could be an option but some mods for shure will be needed … not easy to find a 100% fit

I track a 5v power line and solder a wire … i think if i can remember just next to a usb port

is there a way for a short circuit protection? since it doesn't have a battery a sudden surge will definitely burn the board.
