Mazda’s KODO design philosophy doesn’t get enough credit for countering the 2010s over styling era. They always been smooth, simplistic, and very recognizable for the most part, especially with latest additions like the 4th gen Mazda3
I missed Rosie being on camera haha, Honda came back to its roots, simple but definitively not sloppy, a needed upgrade to their design language, appeal the current market and yet still being recognizable. Last gen seems they were experimenting, feeling kinda forced.
Honda hasn't made a good looking car since the NSX and S2000 back in the early 2000' but originally in early 90's, since then it's been about big, ugly chrome grills, "edgy" but nasty angles, big speaker grill looking plastic near the rear defuser was silly and needless on Civic's... they still don't have it right. The Integra is so wrong paying zero hommage to the original design or mission same thing said for their motorcycles Honda has been WAY off in terms of innovations, appearance, and marketing to focus groups here in the US
@@slowery43 would be nice though if they could bring back the s2000 keeping similar chassis so people would buy it and I can get my hands on an ap1 for cheaper. But anyway I'd say so far they've done a much better job in terms of design where its not like what happened with last gen where they but so many non functional plastic crap that it made no sense and had no real proper plan in the way they designed it. I felt the type-r has matured a lot. Not perfect and still prefer the 90s civics but they definitely got their crap together.
They did a great job with the Civic's rear end and overall simplification, but I'm not sure about the shape of headlights/grill-in-between area and the side view. It's missing some dynamics, this "ready to jump" feeling, thus becoming static, where Civic shouldn't be a static car.
I really like the new looks of all the vehicles you covered from Honda. I think the new generations look way better than the previous versions (especially the Civic Type R).
The Honda Accord is the only one out of the 4 that I honestly prefer the previous model then the new model. Otherwise I like the new Honda model better then the previous generation.
I agree 100%. Honda's new designs look great. I always hated their previous design language with all all the different grill pieces. They even messed up the NSX front end with that design, but later fixed with with the Type S refresh. The new Accord kinda looks like the new mustang too imo
I like the new look. This trend reminds me a bit like the late 1950 era with the chrome work. This trend that honda was along the same lines in regard to styling. Now something i am working using a hotwheels casting. Whether you will like it of not i am working porsche pickup based on the wagon hybrid design. I will see were it goes. They have some ideas thstcare going into it. They havecsports cars, a sedan, and a suv. Why not put a sports pickup in the mix. I am trying in now.
Their design has developed to a point where honda cars look pleasing to the eye, but what I don't like about their new cars is the proportions. The accord and civic seems to have jumped in size since the early 2010s, especially when they elongated the greenhouse to the back of the car. I'm more of a fan of the old, longer trunk part.
I like Honda's new design philosophy, well, somehow the front parts are beaten very clearly, and in the back I don't really like the headlights, which are no longer as eye-catching as in previous generations. And crab claws are a top solution, as in previous Civics
I still disagree on that new Accord front end... It looks very very very generic. The previous edition in the right trim looks way more stately and unique. You knew you were looking at a Honda Accord then versus guessing what generic car is approaching now!
It's especially interior-wise that I like what Honda is doing recently. Sure, the big Pilot has the same interior as Civic and some call that original, but nobody is complaining about how a BMW X7 has a very similar interior to a 2 series. The hypocrisy of those critics is sticking out like a sore thumb.
I think that Honda did a great job with the Pilot and CR-V redesign. You show the Civic type R in the video which is okay. I hate the lower trimmed Civic's front design. It looks cheap, bare-bones and boring. The previous Honda Accord is the best looking exterior-wise IMHO. The new one is way too smooth with a hideous front end and boring taillights.
I'd love to hear your opinion on the apollo ie. Hypercars/supercars are supposed to look extreme, fantastical, like concept vehicles. You won't see hundreds of vehicles with the same style everyday, so it's less likely to cause design fatigue.
Why did get to the point of not knowing what comes nxt . That’s shows a lack of design direction. Nothing to be proud about there . Honda peaked design wise in the 80s , nothing lately has shown otherwise .
I like this movement in many brands and their car designs too but I think the cars loose identity because any brand is doing it like that. The new Hondas could all be fords if you removed the logo. The back of the old honda looks even better i think because it looks more graceful. The new one is pretty serious
True, the old ones have a much stronger identity, the new ones are literally look like a GM parts bin mix and match. Put 10 suv rear ends in a line and you’ll never figure which one is a Honda.
I think the pilot's new design applies better to the ridgeline/passport than the pilot itself. it's design will probably turn away family suv buyers while off road buyers will probably just go for the passport.
I wish the new CR-V kept the higher side rear window kink, because lower like it is is giving almost too close to the Ford Explorer, especially with those new lights and grill. Ironically the new Pilot's new design with that greenhouse/windows are giving modern first gen CR-V to me?
Honda fans should thank Mazda. The Mazda designs made Hondas look so ridiculously over-styled that Honda had to clean up their designs. Now if everyone else would get the memo.... The Accord and Pilot were nice though. I think the new Accord is a step back.
Mazdas def look nicer than Hondas for a good while, but I feel like Honda has been getting a lot of design cues from Ford with these designs - lots of boxy right angles & bold industrial graphic elements that feel rugged and muscular. Mazda is still using sleeker, more organic & aerodynamic lines.
