      I have no love for Trump or Biden. But it's true that Biden has has been involved in two wars! Can't deny that. While Trump has been involved in zero. Gaza is on Biden. He keeps supplying weapons to aid a Genocide. That's 100% Genocide Joe.

    I listened to all of the UN 🇺🇳 Hearing… and imho, the U.S.’s abstention is mainly political, domestically. No bite to it. Only hope that those here at home, extremely concerned about our involvement in supporting Israel in this war, will be appeased. I posit this will NOT work. Bibi is heinous. Voters remain angry & see both candidates as having nothing to offer but rhetoric.

    Love Bernie Sanders. He's one of the few people in Congress who is willing to address the monster that's been with us since WWII - the military industrial complex. Eisenhower addressed it before he left office. It's a corrupt system. It's why I get so enraged whenever someone from the Republican Party complains about Social Security costs getting out of control. When Congress addresses the $900 billion elephant in the room, then I'll listen to their ideas on Social Security.

      I think it's also important to recognize and appreciate that the overwhelming superiority of the American military is what stopped the rise of other military powers (USSR being an obvious example).
      While the military industrial complex may be costly and inefficient it's impossible to know how a counterfactual world without it would have developed.
      Power vacuums don't stay empty, sometimes to secure peace is to prepare for war.
      Call me crazy, I'm glad China or Russia don't have the strongest military.

    Good show, except the remark, "Netanyahu doesn't care for the children in Gaza dying of hunger," a sorry euphemism for a openly declared policy of genocide the Zionist regime communicated through it's defence minister Galant who, on October 8, stated that, "there'll be no food, no water and no electricity for Gaza," and borne out by the fact that all life sustaining infrastructures such as hospitals, schools and all universities and cultural sites including museums and archives in Gaza have been flattened and hundreds of university teachers, journalists and writers and poets have been victims of targeted killings. Didn't the Israeli PM invoke the Amalek story in the Bible to incite mass killings of Palestinians, which reverberates among the IOF(IDF is a misnomer) troops' display of triumphalism in Gaza and the ugly bloodlust voiced, as latest polls show that very large sections of the Israeli society want their military to be even more forceful to annihilate the "enemy." In order to fulfill its mission to kill as many as possible, Israel has been blocking the entry of trucks carrying humanitarian aids while Palestinians children are starving to death, clearly in order to deprive the besieged population of any means for survival. By textbook definitions and as per international law articulated by the genocide convention, Israel has been committing genocide and war crimes in Gaza since October 7th, 2023.

    • @dsmith33
      @dsmith33 6 місяців тому

      I believe ISIS released photos and a video they recorded prior to the attack so I think there’s credibility to that aspect of it. What’s less clear is why Russia dismissed US warnings, waited an hour and a half to respond to the attack, then allowed the men to escape and nearly reach the Belarusian border before apprehending them. And their agenda to blame Ukraine certainly questions Kremlin motives about whether they intentionally let it happen for ulterior motives regarding the war. Wouldn’t be the first time Putin used this playbook even if ISIS was responsible.

    the other thing about the torture of those suspects is that they are SUSPECTS. we have been kind of vaguely aware that there is a significant amount of torture in Russian prisons and more acutely aware of war crimes their mercenary groups commit in other countries-mercenary groups that tend to employ convicts who are promised clemency for fighting for these mercenary groups and may have witnessed, been subject to or have participated in violence within the prison system. so it’s not a surprise that they would do this. but the question is: are these legitimate suspects or just four brown guys they took off the streets and tortured for the sake of a quick result? I find it hard to believe they would take no action in response to the warnings received and yet had enough intel to immediately identify suspects.

I think the main difference between them and a lot of lefty online people is that these two have actually worked in government and know how it works (or often doesn't) so in that way, they may be more cautious about criticizing people in the Biden government because they know it's often not as easy as a lot of online lefties seem to think it is. But they're still pretty clear about their policy disagreements in this matter and always have been.

      They absolutely have not been criticizing Biden from the get-go. Its only been in the past couple months that they have come around to the progressive side's approach. October through January their stance was that "Israel has every right to defend themselves"

      Just because they don't yell a lot and do laugh a lot, doesn't make them moderates. Favs may be the closest to a generalist and moderate. Tommy's the closest to internationalist except for Ben. Dan is most experienced. And Lovett may well be the best analyst & biggest goofball on the team. They're really all lefties. They were all ready to salute Biden until Bibi, a right wing nut case, ignored Biden on the Who is the superpower? level.

      @@nolanwoods4173100%. Pod Save insulted everyone with legit concerns of our dying democracy for years, and still complain about “mentally ill Bernie bros” emailing them after the Super Tuesday betrayal in 2020. They were full of shit then and full of shit now because Biden could end this with a phone call but doesn’t. They used to call it “Green Lantern” politics when ppl ask Dems to do anything, and now one man doing one thing could end a genocide and save our republic and they fidget nervously on the deck of this sinking ship. It’s pathetic and I hate these losers.

      @@nolanwoods4173 it's not true that they have only criticized Israel since January.
      it HAS been pretty much since October, maybe November. i know this because as a bernista i had always checked into Pod-x with a side-eye as they (to varying degrees) tended to get nasty when Sanders came up.
      so i was quite surprised when they were having the absolutely correct HUMAN takes regarding what was starting to go into motion in mid/late October '23.
      better, at least outwardly, than Bernie at that time.

    Ben - there IS no traditional left/right divide on foreign policy. No substantially. Mostly just on how it gets talked about. When push comes to shove the US always acts to boost its Military-Industrial complex. Frankly, that’s been the foundation of US wealth and power since at least WWII.
    Bernie’s question about whether the US really believes in democracy is absurd. Of course it doesn’t. Not only has it never hesitated to crush fledgling foreign democracies which don’t give the US enough financial benefits, it has fallen well behind the rest of the Western World in achieving a democratic system of government.
    Trump is only one of many elected officials who've progressed from adopting corrupt behavior once elected to seeking re-election purely for the purpose of "representing" the highest bidder instead of those who elected him. And it's legal.

    Tommy did so well with the Taoiseach pronunciation but failed with Fine Gael. "Fin-eh". Varadkar was one of the most conservative Taoiseachs we've ever had. Prior to the 8th amendment referendum, he, a physician, didn't believe in a woman's right to choose. Just because he's gay and the son of an immigrant, doesn't make him "of the people". He grew up privileged, as the affluent son of a doctor in Castleknock. He hates poor people, despises the homeless

  • @catherinebirch8263
    @catherinebirch8263 6 місяців тому +3

    I disagree with most of what Bernie has to say, and some of it is just plain incorrect.
    The idea that Israel is accepting tens of billions of dollars from the US while still telling the US what Israel itself is going to do is not at all absurd IMHO. It’s much like my nephew who continued hitting his brother no matter how many times his parents kept telling him to stop. Why stop when there are no consequences? And in the case of Israel, the US hasn’t even TOLD it to stop. And in the case of my nephew, at least his parents didn't hand him a stick. Or a bomb.
    Bernie is also wrong that it is illegal for Israeli to block American humanitarian aid to Gaza while receiving financial aid from the US. Yes, that is contrary to a US law. However that law applies to the US, not to Israel. It is the US that is breaking its own law by continuing to GIVE the financial support. It is not against the law for Israel to continue RECEIVING it - US law has no standing in Israel. Frankly I find it quite worrying that a US senator believes that US law applies to the rest of the world. We don’t have One World Government … yet. (I do however agree with Bernie that blocking humanitarian aid is obscene.)
    I ALSO disagree with Bernie that the immediate concern in Gaza is to feed starving people. At least, not while they’re still being bombed. It’s entirely analogous to advice about what to do after being snake bit - first and foremost avoid further snakebite. Then treat it. Stop bombing the Gazans.

I tend to tear up when I hear him speak about higher goals and hopes for Americans and humanity as a whole... both because his purity moves me and because I'm saddened by the fact that I don't believe the world will ever even come close to looking like the beautiful picture he paints.

    Ben: As Americans, I think we don't have to figure out "what the Royal Family is". That's for the Brits to decide. We left that behind us 250 years ago. The most recent YouGov polling (17 March, before Catherine's cancer video) reveals 51% of adults in the UK think the monarchy is good for Britain; 25% neither good nor bad; 16% bad; 5% don't know. There were no big fluctuations in those numbers over the past few years. I expect there will be an uptick in support the next time the bi-annual polling is done, out of sympathy for Charles and Catherine, but also because of the new transparency being instituted by the King in several areas. I appreciate your comments and agree with some. However, I think we need to step back and let the British monarchy do their thing in ways not many people outside their shores really understand. I've been a British royal watcher for 45 years and I still don't get all the ins and outs of it. Thanks for the forum. Loved this episode, especially the Bernie interview.
