I am Clive's brother. I loved him. I miss him. Today was his birthday. He would have been 89 years old. I still do not know what he died of but I can guess. Thank you for posting this. I only wish my other brothers and sisters and our parents were alive to see it.

Clive Baldwin, the living voice of Al Jolson, this man is amazing, who doesn't like this, and lets not forget the Jolson Story, with Larry Parks as Jolson, a great Performance, one of my all time favourite musical films

I was at this festival but sadly had to miss this performance. I’d always wanted to see Clive Baldwin because he was the only entertainer who could do Jolson. Everyone else was an imitator.
Clive Baldwin was never invited back for reasons no one will discuss to this day. That was when Al Jolson died for me. There’s no one else who could fill those shoes 😓

    This was simply, “Outstanding” even
the “ Great Man” himself would be
hard pressed, to recognise if it was him
    singing!!!’
    Clive, you’ve brought the “ memories “
flooding back, even down to the whistling
No wonder he got, a “ Standing Ovation”
And what a “ special treat “ seeing Rudy!
This is one recording, I will be playing
    back on a regular basis.
    Thank You, for Posting!!! 😉

Wow - wish my old man was still around to witness this guy. He loved Jolson and passed it on to me. I know every nuance of Jolson's songs and this is absolutely spot on. Got the right personality/patter too.

The VENETIAN ROOM at the Fairmont Hotel in S.F. was the first time I saw Mr.BALDWIN. or should I say "Mr.Jolson In person! Never forgot it!! JOLSON was truly the GREATEST ENTERTAINER of all time! CLIVE ...the very close second! Loved and still love Jolson even though he's become "politically incorrect" ... He's part of our history just as much as Burns n' Allen...or Fred Allen or any number of great entertainers! Don't like the fact that he was a Jew in "blackface"? GET OVER IT ! As hard as you try...you'll NEVER change history...Thank GOD! F**K all you haters! LONG LIVE JOLSON!☻

This guy is so great you cannot call him an " impersonator "...it is amazing but he has the exact same voice as the real Jolson. The same resonance, phrasing, vibrato, range and power. Of course he is copying Jolson's style but still he is Very special. And then he also whistles !!!
Si many talented people around . There are many Elvis impersonators and some are very close but a real fan can tell in a few bars that it is not the real McCoy. But this guy really sounds like Jolson in every way and it would be hard to take the Pepsi challenge on this guy and tell him apart from the real deal.
In some ways I have to say that he almost had a better voice in the sense that he has better vibrato. Really incredible but...let's not forget that the real Jolson sounded exactly like this

I think what you have to remember is the audio difference brought about by the microphone and p.a. system. If you ever had the chance to hear this guy sing and talk live and better still with absolutely no mic/p.a. system I think you may well change your opinion.

@@Ken-ci2lq not sure about the UK. Here in the USA we have one. I used to be a member but I became super busy and just never had time to do many posts. Jolson is still much bigger in the UK than here because of the blackface so I would imagine there are some groups there.
The most interesting member we had here was Sybil Jason who played in a movie with Jolson. Sadly she is gone also. But she left a book “My Fifteen Minutes” and she devoted part of the book to her scenes with Jolson.
      Look her up!

Double wow there's a difference vocally Clive seems as if he's straining his voice to sound like Jolly, he's pretty good but isn't Jolly just a good impersonator, he looks like he's enjoying himself.

My voiced craked around age 11, i became a bass singer in Choirs but could do some lower tenor lines My issue was that i needed time to pull my voice down for really low singing, and then, prior to Mandel's Messiah it took two weeks to get in the tenor range and stay there. Not too many 60'000 seat arena's filled just to hear a bass singer. Jolson and Johnny Cash were my fans .In an Orchestra I played bass-lines with a trombone and baritone. Sometimes, life isn't fair.
