I don't understand Kannada, but Mansurji and Venkatesh Kumarji both are ......beyond words! You don't need to understand the language to feel the divinity of this holy verse...🙏🙏🙏
This vachana has a climax in the last line. After desiring with mortal eyes and then finally with the grace of Lord that opens the INNER eye. Akka for Shiva Sharanas but Amma for mortal like us. This is a great country with such gems. Pt Mansur has an edge may not be on the musical side but carries the mesaage much better and this Pt Venkatesh may also agree. Namaskaram to all such greats
b.j.gumaste.i am born and brought up in marathi atmosphete i heard this beutiful song Akka and liked it immediately i got it trsnslted in marsthi.and i am lisenimg almost daily.beatiful song.
.. this rendition by Pt ji is more of addiction to me. The more I listen, the more is the desire to hear it obce again. This is true with all his renditions esp the vachanas .. the poignance never seem to end.. ಹೊಸ ಆಯಾಮಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಣುವ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ವಿರಬಹುದು..
Here " I opened my eyes " can be interpreted as achieving salvation. The moment she saw the supreme God, though in her dream she attains moksha. That is the power of bhakthi.
I use to hear Pandit Venkatesh Kumar Basavannavara Vanacha repeatedly and the pronounsation so clear. I feel proud when I am hearing songs time and again.
In Hindustan renderings there is a stage of achieving a condition called "climax ". That usually comes at middle or fag end of long session. But in this Vachana, Panditji takes us to the stage with this single rendition!!!
Earlier Mr Mallikarjun mansur used to sing, Mr venkatesh Kumar has improved upon it. Pandit venkatesh Kumar is legend in Hindustani Music. Bhimsen Joshi had called him his successor in Hindustani Sangeet.
I have heard Sri Mansur sing as well. His grandchildren were my classmates and have seen him up close. But Sri Venkatesh Kumar's rendition has an edge. Takes you to a different dimension..must confess
In this Vachana; Akka Mahadevi (AM) is telling her elder sister (Akka) a dream that she had. In her dream she sees auspicious items such as rice (akki), beetle nuts (adike) and coconut (thengina kayi). She also sees a tall and handsome begger (gorava) who has plaited hair (chikka chikka jade) and good looking teeth (sulipalla) coming to her door steps begging. When she comes out of her house to give alms, she sees the beggar has already left and is walking away. Just then she realizes that the begger is none other than the Lord SHIVA. She runs behind the beggar and holds his hand and looks at him (Chenna Mallikarjuna). Right at that moment her dream ends and she opens her eyes. What a miracle! Can you imagine seeing and holding hands of Lord SHIVA, for whom you have been worshiping all your life? I have no words to explain that moment, which Akka Mahadevi experienced.
This Akka's Vachana in Pt. Venkatesh Kumar's magnificent voice (sorry I have no matching words) resonates all over inside the body. If say I have heard the same tune in another 'nasal' tone of a late renowned singer which has no comparison with this superb melody, may anger some if I mention his name. So let me stop here. Akka in Kailas must be nodding her head in ecstasy. Kumarjee is blessed. May his Divine Vocal cords let out more such golden hits to quench & soothe our thirsty hearts in times to come !

Oh! Sister listen, I have seen a dream I have seen rice, beetle nut, Beetle leaf, Palmyra leaf and coconut With little plaits and beautiful teeth, I have seen the Gorava come home for alms With exceeding lust i have followed him and took his hand, After seeing Chenna Mallikarjuna, I have opened my eyes.

I am glad that akkamahadevi's vachanas are being sung like this
I use to hear Pandit Venkatesh Kumar Basavannavara Vanacha repeatedly and the pronounsation so clear. I feel proud when I am hearing songs time and again.
Akkamahadevi- The True love to Channamallikarjuna (Shiva) can be felt in this beautiful Vachana 😍
Pandit Venkatesh Kumar is a versatile singer of high calibre. His rendering of Vachanas is excellent.
In Hindustan renderings there is a stage of achieving a condition called "climax ". That usually comes at middle or fag end of long session. But in this Vachana, Panditji takes us to the stage with this single rendition!!!

No words to describe the purely blissful experience that Akkamahadevi would he e felt.
Very nice heart felt feeling

Oh! Sister listen, I have seen a dream
I have seen rice, beetle nut, Beetle leaf, Palmyra leaf and coconut
