  • After years gathering dust in an Ohio barn, this art deco outboard was tuned up and run in the Fox River in October, 2011.
Thanks to www.waterwitch.net for info about these great motors.

Nice! I just watched Mustie1 bring one of these back to life after a 60-year sleep.

The one I got was originally fished out of a lake in the 50 s and my fathers best friend who lived next door got it running untill magneto went on it and it sat my whole life untill he passed and my father unbolted it from the stand and I got it but no magneto to bee had so my brother-in-law has it now hoping to resurrect it

Those old 2stroke motors were a tinkerers nightmare, always fiddling with the air fuel mix and the spark advance...runs great one minute and craps out the next. I'd be willing to bet there's thousands of those motors at the bottom of every lake in the Midwest , out of sheer frustration!

Very nice, them Water Witches were nicknamed "Mae West's" for obvious reason. I am glad to see so many old outboards restored and saved. I have a nice 1956 Mercury "Mark 20".

I was happy to find one not all dented up. It's polishing up beautifully.

Thanks for posting. Cool to see a look in the past. And the design had to have been inspired or lifted off the screen from the Buster Crabbe Flash Gordon movie.

Not enough blue smoke. Needs more oil in the petrol. Plain bearing engines need 8 to one , even on modern oils, in a desperate attempt to get oil into plain big end bearings

    is that watercooled? Woah!
on another note it run pretty bad, a good sign of a healthy motor is being able to idle at the slowest speed.

I had one when I was10 or so. I paid five bucks for it and had high hopes for it. I lived on the pergatory side of the Charles river in Waltham Mass. I changed the oil, carberator and spark plug. Must have spent hours trying to start that thing. Heck I only paid 15 bucks for my 14 foot flat bottom rowboat. The Charles was my place to escspe the world from. It would have been faster with that outboard.
      Thanks for the memories.
