- Several folks I indicated they’d like to see how I create and glue in the pre-assembled hinge signature inserts. This video shares tips I found help, how I assemble the signature inserts and how they’re added to the journal’s spine. Thank you for watching and happy creating.
What an amazing ideas for making our journals journaling life way much much easier. Thank you very much for showing us that it is never late or a waste of time on using our old- forgotten proyects to make a new one by reusing and remodeling with new ideas. You're so humble and beautifully clever. Thank you, thank you so much! I enjoy all your ideas, methods and even your calm tone of voice!
Your kind comments are greatly appreciated Marisol, thank you 😊
Hi Cori! Thank you so much for showing us how to create the spine!!! It's time consuming, but well worth the time and effort. That had to have been difficult to make on camera before the glue dried. You're so wonderful! Thanks again!
My pleasure Pat, and thank you for your kindness 💕
I love this binding. Cori, you are amazing and have a wonderful gift! Thank you for sharing it! ♥️
I have made soooooany bindings in an effort to get my books to lay flat and none were as easy or beautiful as yours.
Thanks so much Cori- I thought I had figured it out after watching your 1st video… but I hadn’t. So glad you did this one!!! Many thanks.
You’re welcome Liz and I’m sure the way you did it works great too!
Cori I love this technique! Thanks so much for showing all the options as well.
My pleasure 😊
The inner hinge is such a great idea! Thank you so much for sharing!💕
Greetings from Germany!
Nicole 🌼
Thank you Nicole. I hope it works well for you!
This is going to be a great way to put an envelope in the center of a signature, I made a sample while watching you so I don't forget how its done, I'm so glad I haven't already bound my newest journal. Thank you!
Thank you, Jill and I'm happy it worked out for you!
What a great way to do hidden spines. They look fantastic. TY for the instruction on how to make them. I like the way you explain and show how to do it in depth and slowly. I'm the type that needs to know why each step is the way it is in order for me to remember the steps. Drove my Dental instructor crazy. But I graduated Valdictorian! So again thank you.
My pleasure. There is almost always a reason I do things the way I do… I figure it makes sense to share the reasons.
OMG!! Cori you are a genius! I can get tons of pieces done and together but HATE putting them in the album. Hidden spine with pamphlet stitch is a pain and having the stitch on the outside of the album is hard on my OCD "super neat" gene. This is perfect! Thank you for sharing. Can't wait to start!
What a great technique! I’ve saved several Jello boxes and will try this on those mini journals! Thanks for such great directions! 🥰
Have fun 😊
Yay for the jello boxes. I have to get to making some instant pudding for the boxes only....just the boxes..sure sure just the boxes not the pudding. Lol
@@marlenejones6266 , LOL! I understand! I buy strawberry jello for the boxes only…not to make the strawberry cake or the strawberry pie…just the boxes! 😉
Thank you so much for showing how you create the hinges, I loved the tutorial.
You’re very welcome Ginny 😊
HI Cori. Thank you so much for sharing this technique. I haven't seen it elsewhere so it's new to me. I truly do appreciate all the effort you have put into presenting this tutorial. I sure have learnt heaps from you . It's been a pleasure spending time with you. Be blessed always.
Thank you Helen. I hope the technique works well for you. Blessings to you, too!
This is an awesome technique Cori! I want to try this in a regular size journal too!
It works well in any size. My new favorite about this is that it’s perfect when you need a few filler pages… if your gap between signatures is too wide. I’ve not had that issue (yet… because, chubby pages) but I know others have.
Your thoroughness is awesome -Thank you Thank you Thank you
You’re welcome, you’re welcome, you’re welcome 😊
Wonderful Cori, what a great way to attach your signatures. I will definitely be trying this technique. Thanks for sharing. I am so glad I found your channel recently.
Thank you Evelyn and welcome!
What a clever way to bind the signatures. I’m excited to try it! You give so much good information in your tutorials. Thanks, Cori!
Always happy to share with you, Paula 😊
I thought I was the only person who did this attaching with paper hinges...but I did mine with fabric hinges. I only did this on one journal. A normal book size though. So far it's held up. I just absolutely hate sewing with the pamphlet stitch. Any time I have ever done it, it's a huge mess. I don't know what I do wrong or why it becomes a disaster but it always does. I usually just put the signatures in my journal with elastic. I use the jewelry elastic and put a dot of glue on the knot. I sew my signatures together on the sewing machine but only like maybe halfway...it holds them together. I made a watercolor notebook with good watercolor paper and I used fabric hinges. It's holding up just fine and I like the look. I subscribed today. I like your soothing voice. I like the ease of how you do things. So I will be here watching and learning. Thank you for this video....very informative
I love that there are so many options and that we can all find something that works well for our style and preferences. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Fabulous technique Cori 😍thanks for sharing it with us ❤️
I’m happy to hear that you like it Antonio. Thank you 😊
These are great ideas. Love your videos. Thanks for sharing. 🥰💖
Thanks Cori. Those are some small spaces you were having to work in. The journals turned out beautiful.
I played with this to have different options with a hidden spine. I like being able to mix it up.
Really interesting. Especially like the laminator idea! Thank you.
Thank you Christine. I love using the laminator to make flat, well adhered pieces.
Great idea for a hidden spine Cory, I'll definitley be trying this. Thanks for sharing 😊
I so love using those. Perfect for gap filling is well.
Ingenious system Cori. Thanks so much for sharing. 😊💕
I’m happy you like it Debbie 😊
Thank You Cori…..love it! Nice work…❤️🥰
Thank you Deb!
What a great binding idea, and I love the idea for the center of the signatures. Thank you so much for sharing! Hugs!
I do love trying different things 👍🏻
Love this way of making a journal 👍❤️
Me too. I like having options, but I'm enjoying this method.
I absolutely love this method of attaching pages. I am looking forward to trying it out. I cannot imagine how difficult it would be creating it all on camera, but you pull it off every time. I think you should contact Art Glitter because you essentially filmed an ad for them:) I do love that glue, and also use Bearly Art. Thank you for sharing your creative genius with us. Hugs from Ky.
Lol! I like having glue options. Well, creative options 😊
This is so much fun! Still don’t have my sewing machine, but gonna give it a try with mini staples! Thanks girl, takes all the guess work out of it!!🥰❤️❤️❤️
I’ve not yet tried it with staples… but I’m going to!
Love this little journal!
Thank you Carol!
Love this new to me concept. Got a new project to try this great idea. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome and I hope you enjoy making your project 😊
Great! Thanks for doing this Cori.
You’re very welcome 😊
Another amazing tutorial Cori, thank you so much for your inspirational journeys
It’s truly my pleasure. Thank you Sherril 😊
This is such a genius technique. I like using staples but don't like the look of them. Thanks for sharing this new technique for my crafty bag of tricks.
Options are always a good thing!
This technique looks awesome! Thanks 🙏🏼 for sharing Cori! Can’t wait to give it a go. I hope your well. Happy creating x
I’m good, thank you Paula. Have fun!
This is awesome, I love it, Thank you for sharing 🤩
My pleasure and thank you 😊
Love this technique and will be incorporating it into my next journal creation ... thank you for taking the time to make this video for us!
I hope you have fun with it!
Thank you, Cory for demonstrating this binding technique. I will have to try this! And I'll have to be very careful not to bulk up the journal 😂 👍❤️
Lol! I always manage to bulk up the journal 😊
This is what I've been looking for! I'm making myself a journal with an old book cover that has a1 1/2 spine. I checked out the Stack the Deck spine from Laura Denison and the Hidden Hinge from Kathy Orta King that you suggested, but they weren't quite what I wanted. This is perfect! Thanks!
I hope you enjoy it and that it works well for you!
Wonderful! How fun!
Thank you Robin. Just another twist.
Great tutorial!
Thank you Lee!
Wonderful ideas in here! Could also use brown packing paper. I have so many one sided papers. I have never seen this method and can't wait to try it. Thanks & Hugs !
Agree completely. The thin brown stuff is a great alyternative!
Thank you! Great again!
You’re welcome and thank you!
Wow I can’t wait to make some of these journals. Thank you for your tutorial it is very helpful
I’m happy to hear that it’s helpful. Happy creating Rebecca!
So unique Cori!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
My pleasure Pat!
Hello Cori, thank you so much for sharing how you did the binding on the signatures.
My pleasure Denise 😊
Excellent tutorial, thank yoiu! I have been looking for another method besides scoring a piece of paper several times and tipping in the pages.
I love having options and I'm glad this video gave you a new one 😊
Absolutely brilliant Cori! Just love them! Now to see if I can purchase the long policy envelopes. Not something I see a lot of here in Australia. Probably Amazon I guess? Thanks hon! 😊❤️🇦🇺xxx
I hope you find them Jan! I got them from Sue at Paper Inspirations, so right there in Australia. Maybe she stocks them in her shop!
@@CoriDahmen oh wow Cori! Sue only lives a 40mins drive from me and we’ve also become good friends as well. Fancy that! LOL I will have to give her a call! Thankyou so much! X
I absolutely love this! Thank you so much for sharing
It's one of my favorite techniques. Thank you!
I can't wait to try it. I love making little notebooks. ❤ I love your videos. I'm slowing making my way through them. 💖
Really enjoyed this sweet Cori!! TY!! so much for the breakdown!! LOVE it!! Can wait to see the final outcome!! I'm actually using 'jello' boxes lol - someone mentioned it below too -right, use what-ya-got-in-your-stash!!! 🥰
Amen! I’m pretty sure I’ve got a Braille pasta box waiting for me to get it in gear 😊 Thank you and happy creating!
☺️ I believe it’s called a hidden spine.
Good explanation
It is a hidden spine style, just a bit different (I think…) approach.
Love this!
Thank you 😊
I've done something similar, I used heavy file folder so it was just a little different=same concept tho and works well to keep the gator mouth at bay while allowing expansion space for the pages. Your explanation was great and wonderful tips! tfs
Love that option Jamie. Thank you!
This looks fun. 😍
I had a really good time with it and I hope you enjoy it too!
I had a really good time with it and I hope you enjoy it too!
great tips tyvm for sharing them
My pleasure Thelma 😊
I would like to hear your thoughts on when to sew and when to glue pages and different elements. I have enjoyed your tutorials.
Thank you and I wish I had a good answer to that. About 98% of the time I go with my gut on which method to employ.
Would you comment about what it is that you like about sewing pages, tags, etc.
Thanks, love this 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Thank you Debra 😊
Love it.
Thank you 😊
I was wrong, Cori, I do not do this technique. I cut a piece the size of the finished inside spine, sew the signatures directly onto the piece and then I glue it in. This way I do not have the flaps on the side to glue down. I find those adhere strangely when drying - should I dry it with the book open or closed? Anyway, I like your technique, very clever. Thank you for showing us. 😘
I frequently use the method you mentioned, and I’m a fan. I just like trying different things to give myself more options 😊
Thanks, Cori! Awesome tutorial! Filming makes everything have to dry before it wants to!!! 😘 We all understand! I can struggle and I’m not filming!! 😂😂 I’ve either got not enough fingers or too many that are in the way!! 😂😂💞
🤣 Sounds a lot like me!
Thank you Cori. I'm excited to try this. I'm not a fan of using pamphlet stitching.
It’s not my favorite either. I like use a sewing machine to insert my signatures and I enjoy figuring out different ways to do it.
@@CoriDahmen Well, this is definitely a better way I think, so thanks again. Always appreciate your straight forward explanations AND examples. One suggestion if I could be so bold... when you make an item which has a lot of folding and pockets built in, could you use plain paper for one of the examples? On the recent video (4 pocket booklet) I had a hard time seeing the pockets because of the "busy" paper. I love that kind of paper, but when it comes to a "sample" the plainer paper is easier to see all the folds, etc. You usually stick in a little tag which helps show the pockets, but when I look at the completed piece without the tags, it's harder to see. I DID replay it and figure it out because your explanations are so clear, but one sample with more simple paper design would help on the more complicated items. Please understand I am not criticizing you. I think you are one of the best "teachers" in this paper crafting world. But, maybe others have the same problem I have when it comes to the beautifully designed paper and folds. :)
@@JeanneJordanexteach great point and excellent feedback. Thank you 😊
Great instructions Cori. You are worried about working continuously while on camera whereas without the camera going you could pause and let things dry. I love this idea and had not seen it before so going to try it tomorrow. ( In bed for the night). Blessings from Betty in Ohio.
Thank you Betty and happy creating!
Thanks Cori for another great tutorial. I'm new to this and have a question. I've been watching a few tutorials and see that some people stitch in the signatures first and then decorate, while others decorate everything and stitch the signatures at the end. Could you discuss the advantages/disadvantages of these methods and which you prefer and why. Many thanks for all the inspiration.
Thank you Valerie and welcome. It’s a great question and I’ll definitely address it in my next video 😊
Cori, As always, I enjoyed and learned much from your video. You are an excellent teacher. One question, several times you have mentioned laminating. Do you have a video where you describe the pros and cons of laminating and what brand you have? If not, would you consider one? Thanks again. Jean
Hi Jean! Most of the time I use my laminating machine without any laminate in it. I turn it on and use it as a heat source to reactivate glue and a compression source to meld the two pieces of glued paper together. I just have an inexpensive Scotch brand laminator.
Oh wow, this is fab, and another great tutorial. I know u were stressing a wee bit at the end, with the 5 signature one, but for me it was fantastic to see how you cooed, as chances are this will def happen when I try it for the first time!!!!! May I ask, and if I picked u up wrong I apologise. But when you were talking about backing the decorated, one sided paper, with the tissue type paper, did you say you glued it on, then put through the laminator?? If that is the case, is this to ensure it’s all stuck down?? And would you put it through as if you were putting through an actual laminator pouch thingie?? Thank u once more for all the time and effort you put into your tutorials ❤️❤️🏴
Hi Kay and thank you. Yes. I use the glue stick liberally on the thin, copy paper. Then I lay down the “heavy” tissue paper, I smooth it out then put the piece through my heat laminator without using the laminate sleeve. The heat and pressure reactivates the glue as it presses the pieces together. Works really well for creating a nice bond between front and back sheets.
@@CoriDahmen awww gotcha, thank you cori for the explanation, and giving me another tool in the creative box 😊😊
These books are adorable… !, what is the advantage of three separate inner spines vs one for all three?
I’m not sure I’d say there’s an advantage. I’ve made several journals using one hidden spine insert. But, I like options and, this completely hides any spacing mistakes with holes and allows you to use different patterns and scraps for the hinges. It’s good to have choices 😊
@@CoriDahmen yes it is!
Hi, this is a wonderful idea to bind a journal. Thanks for sharing🥰 Where did you buy these cute envelopes? Thank you... Iris from Germany 😍
Thank you Iris. My friend Sue, Paper Inspirations, sent me those as a gift ♥️
@@CoriDahmen ahhh ok, thank you😘
😍😍😍😍😍👏👏👏👏👏👏
Where do you buy purple tape and what is it called??
Hi Lorie! I'm fairly sure it's just called purple tape and I get it from Simon Says Stamps. It is also available at other places, and I think it is just stampers tape or low-tack tape.
What are the envelopes called? I thought you made the cover.
I think they are coin envelopes or policy envelopes. I was gifted these.
So can I make it with file folder?
Absolutely! File folder is perfect for this project.
Where in WA are you ? Im here in Walla Walla!!
Hi Donna. I’m in Olympia/Lacey.
I am in Lakewood, WA
I am moving back to Texas soon.
Guess what l ordered? 🥰
Lol! Policy envelopes have several fun uses 😊
You over explained and you lost me.
I'm sorry to hear that. If you're interested in the response, I'll be happy to answer a specific question.
