I know Maximus knows who killed the emperor but still this particular thing is bit cinematic. 2. If Maximus goal is to reach his lovable wife and son, why did he have affair with Lucia? Director should have not complicated it so much!
1. Commodus asks Maximus for support because he’s insecure and knows Maximus is loved by the army and the people. He wants Maximus’s backing to legitimize his rule and avoid rebellion, even though Maximus is technically just supposed to obey. 2. Maximus doesn’t really have an affair with Lucilla-it’s more about their shared history and grief. She reminds him of the life he’s lost, but some feel this subplot makes things more complicated than it needed to be.
