Good job on the video man. There is a definite learning curve with the Tormek and drop point, double edge, or other non straight blades, but if you have steady hands, this is the machine to use.
I got a T8. Works great. I don't have a drill jig. Wish I had one but the cost is very high. (about $330.00). It took me about a month to lose the little magnetic scraper on the side of the resauvour. I took it to the activity center and a couple demonstrations. It fell off somewhere. Other than that it's worked out great. It's a very well made system. Works very well with the jigs or even free hand. Great investment. The speed and quality is greatly improved in my work. Buy it.
The price of the Tormek is soon forgotten, whereas the feel of quality will always linger. Mine is at least 25 years old, but still gives sterling performance. Have also updated the drive shaft, and got a black stone and a Japanese water stone (4000 grit).
Nice review! I bought one of these used and needed to learn about using it. I didn't know that you use the flat stone to load the water stone. Without this video I wouldn't have known that. Thanks!
Hello, David. I want to ask you how do you place a non parallel sides chisel in this machine.? I mean, you don't have a 90° angle between the blade side and the guide. Most of my chisels are carving chisels made by Pfeil (Swiss made). Thank you!
I find that the Tormek & the Old discontinued Jet System are interchangeable, for the most part. Same size wheels & jigs. I only bring this up, is because of the price. There are old woodworkers, passing away all the time, & their tools are quality, & available. Look on the used market before buying inferior products. I paid $600 for my Jet, & I’ve always taken good care of it. Take care, buy once! Now I can replace jigs & accessories with the Tormek parts. I’m sure there are a lot of widows trying to get rid of their husbands toys. If price is a problem, Shop around, but don’t settle for poor quality. After all, the Tormek owners will get old too. The Machines won’t! They are great machines, but how does a person wear out one, sharpening his tools? And thanks to Tormek for saving us Jet owners. We just keep on sharpening!
Paul Kettle Jr Paul -- A Tormek is one of the few tools with which I do not feel a need to use safety glasses or goggles. The slow turning wheel (90 rpm, IIRC) and the water bath eliminate any chance of dust or sparks being thrown into your eyes while sharpening. Also, unlike a typical shop grinder spinning a friable wheel at over 3,000 rpm, there's no chance a Tormek wheel will fly apart if it were to crack. So, the typical reasons for wearing saftey glasses when grinding do not apply to sharpening on a Tormek. The only way to get grit into your eye is if you were to lift the tool above your eye to inspect the edge and a drop of water were to fall into your eye. Wiping the tool off with a paper towel before inspecting the edge eliminates this risk, too.
Don't waste your time with this machine, they have been having problems with the motor over heating! ofcourse they will not tell you this, but I've had to return my 2 times, and just sold it for peanuts! way over priced!!👎

Bought one of these sharpeners. My opinion.....worth every penny. Works awesome.

Great review. Just the right amount of detail. Any thoughts on the differences between the T3 and T7?

Tôi ở việt nam tôi muốn mua một bộ máy
almost 500 pound in uk from ebay
Nice tool, but please use safety glasses or goggles as a good example for your viewers anytime you use a grinding wheel.
