😂this happened at my airport. The guy was late for an interview for a car park attendant job, rather than go around the airfield, he climbed the fence and crossed the runways. He didn't get the job if you're wondering😄
Good catch by Endeavor 5094 on the read back to verify it was a turn on to 4 and not 31. That may sound like nitpicking, but those mistakes have led to incursions at these large East coast airports with intersecting runways.
And it's better to waste those 5-10 seconds confirming than waste goodness knows how long correcting the mistakes afterwards. Also, death is a big inconvenience if you really mess up.
Homeless people commit victimless crimes all the time to get free housing and food for a few days. NYC won’t prosecute someone like this for more than a weekend and a fine
Can you cover AAL3115? We took off from KOA to LAX and had to divert back to HNL over the ocean due to two separate medical emergencies involving two flight attendants.
Imagine the pilots having to explain the delay to their passengers. "This is your captain speaking. We were just about to take off, but there is a random person wandering around out there that we do not want to run over...."
I assume there was no explanation at all or that it was more of a, "ATC changed the runway on us, so we hope you enjoy this free tour of the airport while we taxi for a few minutes more," announcement.
At least they didnt try to shimmy up the landing gear into the wheel well.. after what ive seen on the news lately that plane would be out of action for some time scraping them out

@TheTubadMoose that's a very good point, but it's surprising to think about because so much of the fence line is blocked by the terminals or busy roadways. Hopefully, this is a wake-up call for the Port Authority
Just remember the intrusive level of screenings you have to pass through to get on a plane "for security". Meanwhile, you can just walk onto the runway and behind an aircraft that's been cleared for takeoff. I'm sure no terror groups are paying attention to this at all.
Reminds me of the time I was riding my bike down what I thought was an abandoned runway. Someone eventually drove over to tell me that it was active. Oops.
I get that the ATC was stressed but, he keyed over Spirit several times creating the issue where the Spirit pilot had to reaffirm what he was doing. Then he's told to stop talking? Ok then lol.
the ATC told Spirit to not move (likely knowing he can manage only 2 planes taxiing), but the Spirit guy was overly optimistic and wanted to move to YY, without clearance
I don't think most people would have patience for someone actively ignoring a security issue, who then repeatedly clogs the frequency by trying to scoot their departure forward. If the subtle, "all departures, we have a situation. Hold in place," isn't clear for what that pilot should have been doing, then maybe the explicit, "stop talking" was necessary.
Are ground ops people also airport police? From what they said, ground ops appeared to be observing the man on the runway and not making any moves to apprehend him. Maybe they were not authorized to apprehend a potential threat. Would a policeman act differently in that situation? Would they have been waiting until someone with authority (ie, someone with a gun) arrive? I dont know, just puzzled I guess.
@@malcolm20091000 They aren't trained or authorized to make an arrest. They were there to keep an eye on the guy until NYPD arrived. I'm hoping NYPD releases the body cam footage.

There are miles of fence around a large airport, and it's pretty easy to cut through. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more.
