Most of these LNER Pacific engines do look very much like Gordon and Spencer. But I think Gordon was originally built in a slightly different design and with a different styled tender.
The original A1 Pacifics built by the Great Northern Railway and the A3s which followed had service lives of up to 40 years. I think far beyond expectations when they were built. They were upgraded because they were good to start with and it was worth spending the money to improve their performance even further. Hence the A1 was followed by the A3 with long travel valves and other improvements. And there were various improvements in the 1950s to eliminate the problem of wear in the conjugated valve gear and the Kylchap exhaust to improve steaming from the more variable standard of coal in the post war period.
Empire of India should have been a candidate for preservation. It would have been donated to India if the Indian Railways were interested in buying the locomotive for preservation upon being withdrawn from service under British Railways.
I didnt know LNER Gresely had engines with 8 drivers and a 4-6-4 I thought there was only 4-6-2s of course I'm American so I'm not fully in depth with British engine as I am with American locos.
There was only 1 4-6-4 that started as no 10000 hush hush and was then rebuilt to a4 streamling and became 60700 or the unnamed streak There were 6 2-8-2s nos 2001 to 2006 which were then rebuilt as A2s nos 60501 to 60501
@@barrymidgley7553 also the even less known Mikado 2-8-2 P1 freight engines 2393 and 2394 from 1925 but scrapped during the war. Thought of as too powerful for weak couplings and for trains bigger than refuge sidings. Lots of Gresley 2-8-0s of course.

degrading, only because it's being compared to a "kids show"? Chill tf out (and maybe read some of the Railway Series books if you haven't already? The first one was written in 1942 XD)
@@Parovoz0251 well I don't think they're really reducing it to anything is the thing, and I do value the history of these locomotives. Ah, that sounds amazing, I'd love to have been in your shoes and experience that
Imagine being designed by the same person and being rivals with each other... that would be Gordon and Spencer

Thanks for this. Interested to see some 6 wheel coaches in some shots.
Nice video with music.
4:33 aw yes My personal favorite A3 pacific of all... Sandwich.
What??????? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant research. Good to see the P2s tacked on the end, even though in Gresley years they weren't Pacifics!
They should have been kept as Mikados, in my opinion. Thompson did a terrible job as CME, and I’m glad none of his pacifics were preserved.
Gordon's doncaster brothers and cousins
Love the music.
In my opinion silver link (2509), Papyrus (2750) and Clock'o the north (2001) deserves to live on.
Muel 2 you say it
Unfortunately they were scrapped
Taste and talent. This will be a hard act to follow. Many thanks for sharing .
Great music taste
Were these engines ever used in freight trains?
See 8:17 for one example. Less commonly photographed but fast fitted goods like fish trains common.

Where the class a3 bad designs becuase they had a lot of upgrades to them. Please some help me put
A3s and A4s were great designs and produced excerlent service from when they were built in the 1930s to the end of steam in the late 60s
barry midgley ahh thank for replying I guess it makes sense because they would of replaced them if they weren’t good.
