- A commonly asked question is Why did I buy the Lotus Elise Club Racer? Well rather than answering numerous comments on social media, I decided to dedicate a video to this subject.

There are plenty of turbo kits (also Supercharger I think) available for this car, then you really have a pocket rocket!

this video is absolutely why I appreciate you so much. You bought a Lotus with just 1.6 liter engine and 134 brake horsepower instead of a supercar like Audi R8 and Mclaren 675. That means you really love driving a car, not showing off.
BTW, I don't know if you can get it in Europe. There's a car in Japan called Honda S660. It is a K-car (they have to own a parking space to be eligible to own a car) which can be exempted from this regulation. It has a 660cc mid-mounted engine and only produces 64 horsepower LOL I think in Europe you can enjoy this car at full chat.

+Seb Delanney My car had an aftermarket (AKA "boy racer", or "chav") aluminium gear knob when I bought it. One of the first things I did to that car was to change that back to the standard one. It looked cheesy as hell (this particular one did, not saying yours does) and was like touching a block of ice on cold mornings.

Hey Seb there is an exhaust company that I heard of a while ago it's called quicksilver exhaust systems, they have one called the Titan which fits the Lotus Elise, check it out you might like it.
I just found a good sounding exhaust on UA-cam by a company named Arqray and the model is called Arqray Euro. You can find the car, a yellow Elise, on UA-cam and the sound is cool! And shoots some flames!
I had to work like a dog for 12 years to save to get my realistic dream car the Elise S2. I had a Austin Metro when I was 19!!
It's the perfect choice for you, other people would maybe have chose another car, but other people are not you.
So don't care about these haters, have fun with your great Lotus Racer.
I have a Larini Clubsport exhaust with a de-cat pipe and a hurricane induction kit on my K-series Elise. It sounds fantastic for a four cylinder and it's really loud.
I haven't heard or tried the toyota Elises with Larini, but I guess they sound good too.
Hey Seb, I have the 2009 version. I have the Lotus Stage 1 exhaust combined with the TRD air-filter.For me that is loud enough for town, highway and trackday db limits. Also too loud in the Elise can be annoying if you have long trips.

I like Arqray but it seems like their Lotus products got discontinued. So I would say 2bular. They are focused on Lotus exhaust and pretty good at it.
I prefer the sound of the Arqray's though, but too bad they discontinued.
Do you, by any chance, know how much an exhaustsystem like that would cost including labour?

Yes good choice. Sensible and rare. I got insane interests Exige S driving Italy from UK. Mostly in Italy weirdly.

Much like the other UA-camr's, your car is very reminiscent of your personality. There's the smart and sophistication that is Shmee150, the loud and obnoxious that is Supercarsoflondon, the vain and quirky fun that is Seenthruglass, and finally the small and scrappy that is Seb. It fits you dude.

You sounded a lot like I did when I got a Mazda MX-5 a few years ago. I hope you have as much fun as I did.
I think you made the right decision with the Lotus over the other cars, not saying the other cars are bad but, as you stated, the Elise is more of an event. Unlike most people my own age (43), I love the raw, stripped out type of car, and I find it actually focuses my mind far more than driving about in say, my old M5.
About your comment on body roll, as you progress and get more experience, you will find that even your Elise rolls a fair bit compared to many pure track cars or even modified road cars. I remember when I drove my first performance car and that was the first thing that most stood out from the off, compared to a normal car. Some roll is not a bad thing though as it gives feedback and lets you know here the limits are. I have a track car as well, a little old Clio Williams and it is SOLID! I can drive my daily diesel about faster than the Clio on normal roads :D
I recommend a full on track day with the Elise, and as passenger with some pro drivers. It will open your eyes to a new level of driving you can't really do on public roads.

Nice video, good explanation of why you bought the Lotus! But I was just wondering, what was the reason you never drove during the "where's Shmee tour"? Was that because you were only 18?
If you're still considering an exhaust I would look into BOE and Larini, personally I prefer BOE.
Don't make it too loud, personally I think a Lotus with a really loud exhaust would look stupid. Like a Corsa with a loud exhaust (but obviously MUCH better than a Corsa haha)
Yo Seb, why did you not get the Scirocco. its got between 122-350ps depending on the Engine and us Scirocco Drivers are a little Family. plus its a little bit more useful than the Elise CR

Wow! I really didn't realise you were 19 I thought you must be older! I have just turned 16 and cannot wait to get my license! My cousin is nearly 18 and has had a car since he was 17 and he still hasn't passed yet!
Really love your lotus, lightweight focused sports cars are a lot of fun. Question, did you ever consider getting a honda s2000 or an integra type r or are hondas too unspecial over there in monaco?
Hey Seb - great review and similar feelings here - my first new car was an S1 back in the day (actually I still have it and could never bring myself to sell so I just bought other cars to go next to it). In the UK everyone goes for 2bular exhausts nowadays as has been posted below. Enjoy :)

I like the car I think that it looks great, and would be a fantastic experience to drive. But I have heard that Lotus stands for: "Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious" that would be my only concern purchasing a car of this type. But nonetheless enjoyed the video Seb keep up the good work mate :)

The problem thing applies to the Esprit with the complicated turbo V8's. These Elises with small Toyota engines are super reliable and cheap to fix :)
+GustavLjungberg cheap to fix and run in comparison to an m3/rs4/911/ect, they still cost more to run and fix than the average car. Certain parts of the car are known for poor reliability and are difficult fixes and actually quite expensive.
