  • ET looks back at Priscilla Presley's speech at the opening of Graceland in 1982, where she said Elvis would have been 'very happy' to know fans could visit his iconic Memphis estate. Priscilla and the King of Rock and Roll lived on the property for several years, along with their daughter, the late Lisa Marie Presley. At one point, Priscilla laughs when asked if Elvis' infamous manager, Colonel Tom Parker, was invited to the ceremony.

      She and Lisa had a tumultuous relationship and it was more sadness and resentment that was an ongoing battle throughout their lives. Lisa stated herself she upset and angry saying "it's MY home" but calmed down when she realized what was needed at that time. The resentment from Priscilla was so hard on Lisa that it messed up her confidence and stopped her living her dreams. Just the criticism alone was damaging. Priscilla lived there only 8 years max before she had to leave from Elvis's rejection due to her two affairs not from him not wanting her after having Lisa. But the truth will come out. She brought Lisa up scientology and paid out from Lisa's money not hers to scientology as Lisa did know. She constantly told her she had no talent as a vocalist and she'd never make it. Lived with a man for over 20 yrs and had a son but refused to marry as she'd get no alimony once remarried. She rode off of Elvis's and Lisa's money her entire life. No..this woman is the Presley curse.

      Lisa spoke many times in interviews that when she’s gone her children will take over Graceland. Lisa would often say her mom is controlling and to take your grieving 9 year old daughter and join a cult/ Scientology and tell them to fix her is heartless! Lisa needed a licensed child psychiatrist not hours of sitting in a room being audited to where your in tears. Former Scientologist said she worked with lisa as a child and it was sad priscilla would drop lisa off at the doors of Scientology and just leave her. Lisa said her mom was treated like a VIP after her dad died. Priscilla has managed to live a lavish lifestyle off the Presley name. Lisa was the only one that was truly loyal to her dad. If only Elvis had lived longer he would have never allowed lisa to join a cult Elvis was very much a Christian. Lisa left Scientology in 2016 rip lisa Marie

      You have to remember that, back then 5$ wasn’t what it was today! Inflation!! Back then it was something many couldn’t afford, just like many can’t afford the current price of entering Graceland. The most beautiful thing here is that they found a way to keep the estate on their own terms.

    • @BEEyonced
      @BEEyonced Рік тому

      5 USD was still cheap in 80s! It's not you couldn't go to Disneyland for 20 USD! Can't you even listen? Media was surprised by the ticket price and she explained that calculations were done. They are expecting a lot of people to meet financial ends. They wanted to give everyone the chance to afford a visit! Yet she is highly dumb because flying in, needing hotel the ticket is always the peanut about it all even if it was 50 USD from start!
      Who wanted to go... went, who despised Elvis wouldn't even go for free! There's nothing else to do in Memphis. If would be a different kind of story if this was in L.A. Just another sight-seeing thing.
      The only ppl benefitting from such a cheap ticket would be the local Memphis residents. And I read here several times local residents never had the urge to go or best belief the 1x visit was enough for life.

      Of cource it was . She knew Elvis's feelings on his home she knew he did not want to lose it also it was their daughters inheritance too . She could have walked away and left it to lose to save it or lose it but she didn't best thing she did to open his home to the public elvis would have backed her all the way if it meant saving his home

      @roisindubh02 she did it cos she loves him always has and always will as born out in the fact elvis has been gone now 45yrs and she has been there thru out and he never lost his home it's now the property of Riley harper and finleys some credit must go to priscilla. Its a two edged sword situation there was no money the house was facing sale of cource she did it partly for kindness to elvis but also as she had no choice open it or lose it . She made the right call .she was put in a horrible situation elvis will have been so proud of her. She did wat came naturally looking out for her family and loved ones . People need to stop berating this woman and give credit where credit is due even if they don't agree

      She destroyed the Presley name she’s no Angel she took Lisa and raised her in a cult after Elvis died. Priscilla has lived off her ex husband’s name and has managed to live a lavish lifestyle. 3 days after Lisa died she’s at the court house upset about Lisa not leaving her in her will 💰 Priscilla was making 1.3 million a year off Graceland so of course she don’t want Riley to take over.

I will always defend Priscilla for the rest of my life and to me she was the love of elvis life and ginger doesnt want to accept that and the fact that elvis never wanted to marry her because he wanted soo badly to reconcile with cilla and lisa marie . For me ginger will alaways be a pathological liar who tries to tell everybody liars and they want to re write history and wrote her book just for money and not to set the record straight . Enough is enough with ginger . My respect and admiration for cilla is huge and nothing and no one will change my mind about her . NOTHING AND NO ONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    She definitely has the brains to go along with beauty. Elvis went down into addiction and self destruction she had to divorce him. Lisa Marie maybe was too much like her father. She was trying too hard to be successful in her in right and live up to his legacy. She was a wonderful mother nothing else should have mattered. Those who managed her financial affairs did a rotten job, took advantage of her. Wished she could have beat her demons.

    • @andrewmiller4885
      @andrewmiller4885 Рік тому +1

      @@gingerlord4983 I have to respectfully disagree with you. Priscilla was merely the face that promoted Graceland after Elvis died. Elvis left her nothing in his will she isn't even mentioned in it . The house went to Lisa Marie with Vernon his mother Minni Mae and the Commercial Bank of Commerce as trustees on the will for Lisa because she was a minor at the time. However, when Vernon became very sick Priscilla approached him and asked to be given trustee- ship over the estate in his place. Thats how Cilla gained control of the estate. She doesn't own it, she never will.
      The opening up of Graceland to the public was not Cilla's idea. The fact is Cilla was lost she didn't know what to do. It was clever lawyers and business financiers who created "Elvis Presley Enterprises". The big brain behind the multi-million-dollar Empire it became was a man named Jack Soden, a brilliant stockbroker and businessman.
      It annoys me greatly that Priscilla has allowed the public to believe she was the savvy smart business guru behind the saving and success of Graceland and all the wealth it generated. IT WAS NOT CILLA WHO SAVVED GRACELAND NOR MADE IT WHAT IT BECAME.
      Furthermore, Elvis's Legacy would have survived without the house being opened up anyway. Elvis didn't need anybody's help for that. The man's originality, his music, his voice, his charisma, not to mention his killer looks and beautiful spirit ensured all that. Elvis has always been an echo that will never die, and the likes of which we shall never see again. He was and remains the biggest and greatest Icon in musical history. I'm sorry my response is rather lengthy. However, I do get fed up with the level of importance people have placed on this woman who was Elvis's Ex, they were only together in marriage for 4 years. She ran off and left Elvis for her karate instructor who she lived with for a good couple of years before Elvis and her were even divorced. Priscilla has told a good deal of untruths and has allowed the public to keep calling her his widow, while at the same time telling the public how much she loved him and still does. Oh Please, nothing is further from the truth.

    I went to Graceland in early 84, one of the first to tour the plane. I remember downstairs the yellow and black room was still the original paint and the said they were preparing to repaint it. I remember thinking it could use some new paint. Black and yellows gets to looking icky after serval years. The home was still a resident then because I think Dodger was still living there. Sure a lot has changed since then.

    After reading the comment let me say 85% of Elvis intellectual property was sold off, the same company manages the business end of Graceland. Graceland is owned by Lisa and Elvis property (his stuff). Lisa went through a ton of money but always kept Graceland. Vernon being a hoarder of everything has been a stream of income selling anything from a check to receipts to drivers license, there is still a trove of artifacts.
