Thank you so much for the tutorial!
I got cheap yoyo when i saw one since i figured itd be fun to add another thing to the list of hobbies ill learn beginner tricks in and never advance past.
I tried learning the yoyo stomp but after i put too much force into it the string snapped at the axle and it was useless, which bummed me out cause i was having quite a bit of fun learning the yoyo.
I decided to try to tie the ends back together which i failed miserably at until i looked up ways to tie opposite ends together and found your channel!
Then i went on the knot playlist and eventually happened to chose this video which worked perfect so far for the few minutes of testing ive put in, so huge thanks for extending the life of my yoyo and extending my fun :)

My careful examination of the Ashley's Bend indicates that it is Alpine Butterfly with the bight cut off, which gives the two working ends.

Khan Loo You should be more careful, because it certainly isn't.

alpine butterfly has a variation called the alpine bend. This is slightly different.

This knot is similar to the butterfly in that the free ends come out on the same side, but not exactly the same topology. It cannot be laid-up to match the symmetrical appearance of the butterfly. Both knots are of the class of knots formed by interlacing two overhand knots. There are dozens of other such knots which also include the Zeppelin bend, the riggers bend, and a bunch more (many useless) for which I have no names. The most extreme case is the true-lovers knot.

Ashley's bend is in fact a two strand footrope knot first a crown next a wall then tuck up that's all

No. It's not. The two strand footrope knot is knot #783 in the Ashley Book of Knots.

Son-of-gun, I just tied a #783 and examined the pattern more closely .... it IS the same - it's just shown tightened/set on a different axis. Apologies, Rusty Balls.
