Hey Joe, you are a Jedi Knight when it comes to cleaning & pressing comics!!!, I'm eventually going to get some books sent to you for you to work your magic on.
Book archivists and conservationists have largely stopped wearing gloves when handling paper because peer reviewed studies have suggested that they reduce sensitivity to touch and actually pose a higher risk to creases and tears. Oiliness in the skin is not nearly as huge an issue as once presumed as long as hands are clean and dry. I know a lot of comic book conservers have also stopped wearing gloves, and was wondering if you were familiar with all this and if so if you were maybe wearing gloves for some other reason. At any rate, great work as usual, and absolutely love that Startling!
I am also skeptical of “peer reviewed” as a former chemistry professor, I can assure you a peer reviewed study does not mean it’s well done - especially w pay to publish journals and low impact spam.
The tripod was pissed with CGCs assessment on that book as well. Those were some beautiful books you sent in. As least they gave you the blue label back sucks there was no grade bump. Do you think most people assume because its an old label that there's room for improvement?
This one I was hoping specifically that foxing would clear and the bend on back would bump. I was only aiming for 8.5 as it would make it the top CA version.
I've never understood the mindset of sending books to CGC to help preserve them in the slab. CGC does not care about the books they grade, and they handle them like gorillas.
You must not know how folks Handel them at shows. I have watched potential customers slam books back into boxes or force books into place till they bend 90 degrees. Or tag them w tape… more protection from people than elements. But your right that being is a slab is no better against the elements than being in a milite. Cool dry and dark is the best
Very nice Presenting vintage books . The qualified grade was a bummer. If a page is missing a a page, how does cgc decide whether to give the book a 0.5 blue label or a higher grade qualified Green label? Thanks for your show.
Good video, with some cool comics, especially the Schomburg Startling Comics, and the wacky Supe covers... TOO BAD CGC is so buggered up. They don't know the proper page count ?!! No to mention, 'jamming' books into the case improperly. All my comics are raw, GA and SA mostly, never had a CGC. In fact, I guess I see it as a bit sacrilegious. Plastic over paper... I have to touch, and smell, and read my comics. At least if I damage them, CGC didn't do it...
There are some legit fragile comics that should be slabed and plenty of other nonsense grading. In general, I don’t hate the idea of CGC just wish they were better
I don’t care what anyone says, this is a very entertaining video. I love to see you work on books.
Appreciate the support!
I 100 percent agree!!

I will keep doing so. People need to get good with them. I have had gloved hands most of my adult life since working a chem lab. Way safer imo
@TopComicsPressing Fair enough. 🙂

You're welcome!

Keep watching - book is complete - CGC screwed up the CA edition.
As for 0.5 vs green - up to them but I think they use 4.5+ as a green and 4.0 or less is 0.5 (grade otherwise if complete)
