Just a few quick things I want to touch on: 1. That cinematic is mind-blowing, I'm totally smitten. That said, a part of me feels Inarius could've given Lilith a bit more of a fight. What do you think? 2. At 0:41 - I might be tripping over the pronunciation here. Is it "anJeris"? I opted for the hard "g" because Angeris reminded me of "Anger", but feel free to correct me if I've goofed. 3. I've been grinding on this channel non-stop for a month, and it's been one wild ride. You guys are the best! 4. What's the next corner of the Diablo universe you want me to explore? 5. And hey, don't forget to subscribe! (Apparently I don't say it enough or something along those lines) Enjoy the video ♥
Great vid man! Just recently found your channel and am loving it so far! I always assumed it to be pronounced anjeris to reflect the pronunciation of angel since the council is made up of angels.
regarding #1.. generally i would've loved to have like 1-2 more cinematics in the campaign, but maybe i'm a bit spoiled by diablo3, which had quite a few cinematics. since my first real diablo was diablo3, i would loved a longer fight as well, but i do think that they wanted to go back to d2/d1 aesthethics and let's be honest, those d3 sequences and fights sure had some anime-vibes going on.
I don't know why they felt the need to kill him that way, like they are in hell. So many demons he could've died to yet nah, let's kill him with this dumbass pillar that he stupidly walks towards for no reason
@@NyxVellum that would've been a better death for him than some random zombie from a pillar lol. Was astaroth or whatever his name was down there anyway??? Like we could've fought him again but this time, he's stronger since he's in his realm and he could've killed donnan or maybe make him sacrifice himself so we can catch up to Lilith. Idk maybe better ways I can think of to kill him off
Lilith and Inarius needed each other to be good for sanctuary. the chaos lilith brought needed to be tempered by the order of Inarius but they were too blind to see that.both doing what they thought was best. only rathma truly new what was needed and that is balance.
The game shows both what happens when the order of Inarius is left unchecked (killing and torture of anyone who is considered a witch or who opposes the church) and the unbridled chaos that Lilith brought (the opening scene with the villagers). Lilith and Inarius working together was probably the best shot the humans had at ending the Eternal Conflict.
It could’ve worked if not for Inarius’ torture. That just pushed him over the edge, made him pretty much hate humans and going back to the high heavens became his only goal. At the end, he didn’t even care or try anything that was for the sake of sanctuary. Lilith did care about the Sanctuary but in such a twisted way that there was no way for it to work. Lorath was right at the beginning. “They don’t mention how a thousand years of torture in hell makes you kind of an arse”. And that’s why both of them got screwed at the end.
14:20 And that right there is why Mephisto made sure Prava survived. He knew her hatred would make her act rashly and place the blame for Inarius' defeat squarely upon the shoulders of the wanderer and his / her allies. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see her begin purging anyone and everyone who aided or received aid from them. If you thought the Cathedral's zealotry was bad before, just wait. It's going to begin ripping Sanctuary apart, all according to Mephisto's plan.
You are probably right, and Inarius will probably be revived in Hell too. Imagine him kind of looking like he does, but his light is the Darksaber color. That would allow the Cathedral of Light to continue to follow him, and by extension Mephisto, when they start openingly "purging" the citizenry. Plus it gives us the chance to knock him down again.
"A spear of Light piercing Hatred's heart." I think I just figured it out. Lilith wasn't the target of that Spear. To a degree, even Mephisto wasn't the target (unless the expansion changes things). But it's not you (the wanderer) wielding the spear either. No, it was in fact Lilith wielding the Spear of Light, forged by the High Heavens, who pierced the heart of Inarius. A soul tortured by her father for so long. A heart filled with hatred for his tormentors, against the home that betrayed and abandoned him(which he did first), and even against his own creation when they failed to live up to his standards. He even hated himself. Maybe Blizzard didn't mean to go that far with it, maybe I'm reading too much into things. But if it's intentional? Round of fucking applause.
I love that cutscene at the beginning so much. You can see Inaruis's fear and denial even without a face. I think he always knew that the heavens will never forgive him, he's just in denial since he lost everything and believing he can return to heaven is the only way he can face reality. And I have to say Im pretty tempted when Lilith said we can lead the humans and she stays in the shadows, I totally would've bought it if I didn't see all the death and destruction she brought throughout the campaign. That's the problem with immortals, they live so long they lose sight of the value of individual lives and thinks the end justifies the means bc of it
fair valid take but to be fair tho lilith did gave a choice for humans like the one sorcerer woman who wanted more knowledge forgot her name but I think she's related to the girl that mephisto is traveling with currently 😮
There is some logic in the way they wrote Lilith. It may seem cruel but a view which is less concerned with individual suffering and more focused on the bigger picture CAN be better. It's a classic argument of ethical frameworks. Consequentialism or Not... If Liliths plan were to kill some number of people BUT ultimately allow for a Sanctuary separated from the eternal conflict would we not see less people suffer overall? Of course we don't know for sure that she wouldn't immediately/eventually become some sort of demon tyrant and cause just as much damage as the eternal conflict.... but we also can't say for certain she would be the lesser of two evils. Continued suffering because of being caught in the eternal conflict vs having Lilith rule over humanity.. Interesting thought experiment.
@@BLOODKINGbroefinitely is when she was willing to trap your mind in the sightless eye for saying no to her, despite her telling you she gave you free choice. If this was reality all the Lilith simps would end up like that guy getting eaten alive by the 3 wolves in act 3.
@@BLOODKINGbro Yoooo, imagine. You side with Lilith and kill Mephisto, her absorbing his essence. You knock Lilith down a peg when she eventually tries to betray you. The heavens finally has had enough with three arch-angels (Ina, Malth and Tyr) gone and siege Sanctuary. You become Liliths champ and knock the angels down. But sike, Diablo and Baal resurrect and Lilith sacrifices herself to kill and contain them both with Imperius's and your help, ultimately killing Imperius trying to save you. Lilith asks that you contain her with all three of the Prime's essence, becoming the Prime Evil herself. Since she's the mother of sanctuary, there would be peace with angels and demons.. for a while. Until the three primes inside Lilith ultimately corrupt her and boom, Diablo 5.
I think Lilith really did love Inarius too; after she killed him, she became weaker, maybe because she felt sad. Her face shows sadness after hearing Inarius's answer to killing their son. It was like, "I love you, but you've lost it, so I must put you down regretfully."
@@kingkuder8427 I don't think that was it. Remember how she never dodged it? She let him stab her. It felt like she was trying to see how far Inarius would go. When he stabbed her, the Inarius she knew and loved was truly gone. I think that somehow it made her sad that she had to kill him, drastically weakening her in the process. She is a demon and is not supposed to feel love, and having those feelings of sadness about having to kill a loved one is a conflict in her nature that may cause her to lose power.
@@jansandman6983ove this outlook on it, however the spear certainly didn't help. However emotional trauma is something that shouldn't be laughed about, now if you were to laugh no more than 3-5 seconds, then Seriousness/concern
So my theory, given that demons just come back when they die, and the player is a person with Lilith's blood in their veins, was right next to Lilith when she died, I think that Lilith might return in an expansion using the player to do so.
I think Nyrelle is going to the crater a amount Arreat where Tyrael destroyed the world stone and is gonna try to do something with the stone. She’s gonna try to challenge Mephisto or consume his power to in turn destroy all the prime evils permanently but she’s going to overestimate her power and Mephisto is going to use that as an opportunity to possess her/be reborn at full strength. She was extremely powerful for her age and level of study, she was removing horadric seals by reading a few texts, banishing hellfire in hell single handedly, her mother taught her a lot and was used by Lilith for her power during Act 1. Shes filled with hatred against Lilith and the Evils, which makes her more easily corruptible. She’s a perfect conduit for Mephisto to do something with. She’s also really arrogant and egotistical, saying that Lorath and Donan were bitter old men and that the horadrim were weak pretty much as they fell to normal human traits and lost their ways. For Diablos reincarnation I think it would be pretty sick if Tyrael does something to try and stop her from basically Tal Rasha’ing herself and he ends up being the conduit for Diablo to be reborn. For Baal I’m not sure what would happen, we’ll have to see what happens in the expansion but I think Tyrael is gonna play a major part in some way. (Unless he died somewhere and I’m forgetting, he didn’t die in D3 did he?)
While I do think the cinematic was done well, and I think that the story of Inarius could have been drawn out a little better; however, I liked that he was taken down that easily. If we look at how deluded he was of his own grandeur; it made perfect sense that he was felled easily (hopefully to be respawned as an agent of Hell). I think the saying, "those who strive to touch a star often stumble on a single straw," applies well to Inarius. He had all of these good intentions and that paved his way to Hell. The sad part was that because he wanted to end the eternal conflict; Inarius was abandoned twice by Heaven. Firstly, he was abandoned after talking to some of the other angels about stopping the conflict and he was then struck down in a battlefield charge which left him captured (maybe Heaven intentionally let him be in a poor tactical position during the battle?). Then after the Sin Wars he was given back to the lords of Hell as the second betrayal; which is somewhat logical given that Inarius had technically betrayed Heaven and conspired with a demon to bring about the creation of Sanctuary. Heaven, it seems, reasoned that they could not afford to put Inarius in a position where he could betray them again; hence the judgement of silence. Lillith definitely was not innocent and I think that the choice that Inarius and her made was to further her own plans. Lillith seems to be more like a demon signifying contempt. We can see this in how she talked about the lords of Hell, the weak needing to fend for themselves, and even Inarius as she rips his wings off. Inarius also had this contempt and his time in Hell strengthened it.
I just wanna say, I really appreciate your pacing and diction in your videos. It's very easy to follow even without captions on. Both in the candid bits and the parts you scripted.
nope you were not, Inarius was Lilith's balance. The moment he went off the rails the balance was broken and things tilted all in favor of Lilith's chaos. She had to go too.
Exactly. I thought it was stupid how we were forced into a side. I was team Lilith all the way. She actually made sense and was right in the end. She was extreme but she had the best goal overall. When she was giving her sales pitch at the end of the game, I wished my character could chanhe sides.
I see a lot of young ones arguing for a choice to pick Lilith's side. That's so short sighted. Lilith was always evil, that's her nature... Comparing her to Inarius makes no sense; Inarius escaped the eternal conflict in search for peace for himself and fellow angels, Lilith wanted to win the eternal conflict (in her own words back in D3 "this conflict can never be won so long as my father and his brothers rule"). Inarius could have destroyed the Nephalem back when they first appeared and caused fear, he could have killed Lilith back when she assassinated the original renegade angels and demons who were pondering destroying her future army. He didn't, that was not his nature... He then was tortured by Mephisto for millenia, his eyelids ripped apart and his angelic form twisted. He was corrupted quite literally by Hatred himself. The Inarius we came to know during D4 is not an angel anymore... Lilith's plan was to reign over hell, become something like what Diablo was during D3 and win the eternal conflict. Sure, she might have spared us (after using us as the Cathedral of Light uses people, remember her speech to Elias while wolves eat a monk alive). But the Sanctuary she would rule over would be not much different from hell itself... By the end, she offers you to be the shepherd she can't be (she's aware and made peace with her nature and the nature of humanity), but unless your character was a psychopath, they can't take that offer; you can't accept becoming the strongest wolf amongst other psycho wolves (being beautiful in sin and all that)...
Great write-up, thanks for taking the time to leave it in my comment sections out of all the comment sections out there, and thanks for hanging out with me by watching the video.
Also its not the nature of a game like Diablo to allow the player to make a choice that would eventually lead to two very different paths. What would happen is there will be a bunch of people disappointed when they realise their choice made no difference.
I like this comment but part of me disagrees. Our player character is obviously being manipulated by Mephisto since the beginning of the game. I think its silly for our character to not even consider siding with the "lesser evil" in this case. Enemy of my enemy and all that jazz. Sure Lilith is still a demon and its in her nature to spread chaos wherever she goes. But she does want sanctuary and her progeny to live. After she offers to allow us to lead, and we (humanity/nephalem) destroy hell and the prime evils, and safeguard sanctuary from the angels in heaven too. Would she really even think to oppose us? She'd have no chance.
@@zachholt2085 Agree. i was practically screaming at my screen for the last quarter of the game. I just felt like Elias was the main character and we were the villain ruining his plans at every opportunity. Lilith at one point in the unseeing eye sequence literally calling us idiots for accepting mephisto's help but refusing to work with her. I get that we're supposed to be being manipulated by mephisto the whole time but i would have expected the hero to have more of a brain and not just repeat "We gotta stop lilith!" without every asking why. All she ever says is she wants to help humanity. The only people she seems to kill are the ones that get in her way to try to stop her from completing her mission. And the "Helltides" dont start until AFTER we kill Lilith? Makes it seem like her existence was preventing them and us killing her unleashed hell. It would have made more sense if blizzard just leaned into the silliness and just had our character respond "It's for the loot" every time someone said we have to stop lilith.
"Let the weak fend for themselves" More then enough for me to show Lilith wasn't this great benevolent loving mother that she wanted us to think. Still wonder if she wasn't entirely honest about the Heavens when talking to Inarius before his "death(Assuming that holds).
Playing through the game is enough to realize that Lilith is not loving. If you love someone, you don’t force your ideals on them. On top of making demons murder them unchecked…
I think Lilith correctly identifies that (in the universe of Diablo) free will equals choice equals sin. Inarius made a choice and sinned. The high heaven doesn't forgive that. The whole thought of him acquiring redemption was an act of self-deception from the very start. It was never promised yet Inarius wanted to believe in it by coopting his son's prophecy. Therefore, I think Lilith was truthful.
@@theslasher89Well, kinda. Free will equals choice, but for some reason in the Diablo universe, people use that choice to exploit, cheat, murder others. Inarius certainly got screwed by the heavens while other angels did more questionable things and were never punished for it, but overall i don’t think that a choice in itself is seen as evil. Lilith’s choice is pretty easy to be seen as evil while she is leaving a trail of genocide or brainwashing through blood magic behind wherever she goes.
Why/how would Inarius get his wings if the High Heavens no longer acknowledges him? I would have thought one of the first things that happen to angels that are forsaken by the High Heavens would be the taking of their wings thus forcing them to become mortal or at least not an angel anymore
my ending was different, because lilith and I got married and started a new line of nephalim. we agreed the childen will stay with me for the week and she gets them every other weekend
To think that Lilith and Inarius blame humanity for everything going wrong and sealing their own fate. But in actuality it was the two of them falling back into their chaotic/lawful natures that really undid Sanctuary. Imagine being the first beings among two waring factions to decide to take a different path, even going as far as paving an entirely new path away from this eternal conflict, creating new and incredible things together only to lose it all because they couldn't continue to stray away from their nature. They can't be faulted for being what they are, but it does go to show there is not salvation for Humanity with either faction. If Sanctuary is to meet its terrible fate, the only reasonable option for humanity would be to muster enough power to create a new world to initiate a mass exodus to, one placed so far away that no Demon or Angel would ever be able to reach with their influence. Without humanity, demons will no longer be able to gain any further advantages which will result in the Eternal Conflict returning to a stalemate.
Or to defeat heaven and hell on their own terms. Not save heaven from hell, or vice versa be a slave to hell. As is proven in Lore and gameplay the nephalem (players) have the potential to be far stronger than any demon or angel.
Lilith's freedom will only make human became slaves of their instincts. To have true enlightenment, people's choice must matter, it must be the factor that matters the most - like how Tyrael formed the Horadrim order. Inarius is a shitty father doesn't mean Lilith isn't a manipulative mother. She has good intentions towards human, that's true. But just like we all see in real life, parent's good intentions, if they don't hold back and keep a boundary, can ruin their children too. Basically I put her at the same level as Zoltun Kulle.
Ever since the Sin wars, she has always been looking for power, enough power to eternally end the eternal conflict. The solution was the Nephalem. Too bad Inarius has always been a prideful, chicken sht coward to realize that.
Both Lilith and Inarius are mentally screwed. Lilith is better in a way that she at least truly believed that what she does is good for the sanctuary, while Inarius just openly used the people for his own goal, to get back to heaven and didn’t care about the sanctuary at all. Of course, Lilith’s good intention doesn’t mean much because of the way she went about it. She went on about how she gave us freedom, choice, blabla, but its a lie and she doesn’t realize that its a lie. It’s not freedom if she needs to corrupt people with her blood. It’s not freedom if you manipulate people with lies to make them follow you. They are following your lies, not you. Serve and live or disagree and die is not freedom.
Lilith does not care about humans at all. All she cares about is saving Sanctuary and the Nephalem from being destroyed by Heaven. (I think a lot of people are confusing humanity to include Nephalem. It doesn't.) Humans are nothing to her.
@@frolicsomgaiety Humans came about when Inarius changed the Worldstone to depower the Nephalem. Eventually they lost their powers and became mortal and humanity was born. I gues you can call it (de)evolution?
Something that really bothered me was how the player character would so adamantly and uncompromisingly refuse Liliths plans despite very clearly being manipulated by Mephisto. I think the story did a phenomenal job at developing a nuanced narrative in which there is no clear good or evil. It was not so successful at justifying the players stance in this narrative though. If the player character has some kind of personal grudge or history against Lilith that is driving them to despise her so thoroughly that they are willing to side with Mephisto just to beat her then it would have been nice to have that shown. From what we saw, the player did not seem overly upset with any of Liliths wrongdoings they witnessed. If the player character is supposed to be more of a self-insert/blank slate then it seems like even more of a misstep because they would have had to show Lilith doing some considerably more heinous crimes for actual players to reach the level of conviction the player character had against her. I swear she only directly killed two people and one of them had just tried to kill her. In the end, a narrative like this would always benefit greatly from player choices. Barring that though, I would love to see some kind of 'villain route' DLC where we work with Elias and Lilith against Lorath and co. or something but that's wishful thinking at best.
I wish that idea would be possible. Unfortunately for an online Action RPG like diablo its just something they never do. Choices matter games are always satisfying to me, but largely singeplayer. Or if its a multiplayer game the results of the choices hardly change anything and are shallow.
Here's a big question i had. Why did lilith free astaroth? He keeps his promise and moves out of her way to let her get to mephisto's castle, But if she just never freed him to begin with he wouldn't have been there to stop her in the first place.
It’s very similar to the Witch Queen ending in Destiny 2. We kill the “mommy” of the story while being the hero of the story, we kill her and now we have to fight the next big baddy.
@@NyxVellum I think he was jus sadly the perfect currency to get Lilith closest to victory. At the end of the day she was trying to save sanctuary, while Inarius, well....
Really if Lilith did create the Blood Knights in Diablo Immortal, it could stand to reason that her warriors may just avenge her and work towards her plan again.
Wasn't Lilith also killed in D2? If that's the case it is probable that she returns. But it takes time (as we see with Mephisto's rebirth), time which mephisto shall use wisely.
I wonder how Mephisto came back despite having been absorbed by Diablo? In Diablo 3 in the final act by using the Black Soul Stone that sealed away his brothers as well as Azmodan and Belial to become the Ultimate Evil only to be sealed away upon his defeat by the Nephalem warrior in the high heavens (or maybe I am wrong and it was only Belial and Azmodan). I know that at the end of the Reaper of Souls DLC in Diablo 3, by destroying the very same stone to stop Mathael from destroying all of humanity, it allowed a very a weakened Diablo to go free but only Diablo himself, or at least that was what it seemed. Think Mephisto and Baal also managed to escape? That would explain Mephisto's presence in Diablo 4. Maybe Diablo 5 will basically have us beating the Prime Evils all over again like in Diablo 2 as well as the Cathedral of Light?
I can't remember where I read this but it's mentionned that the Prime Evils disconnected from Diablo after a while and went back to their own domains to recover.
Lol you can hear it in game how they pronounce Iosef. Yoh-sef. Of course Mephisto wanted Neyrelle to travel by herself. Less interference from his manipulation.
cant wait to face Inarius as a boss prob in the third expansion. And I can't wait to see just how hateful that man could become, especially as a plucked-down angel
@@MrBuns-yi2hk but Diablo and Mephisto can just keep respawning? plus, even in the cutscene he gets absorbed into the floor of the temple he's in. so hate to say it but: No Body=No Death
@@MrFanservice it takes time for them to reform though. That is why when mephisto cane back, he was in a weakened state. Speaking of him, he will probably be the next boss since Neyrelle's stupid butt decided to trap him in the spulstone and give him a free lift to sanctuary. We can see his influence spreading through the fields of hatred
After all the build up of Inarius and Lilitj etc i kinda doubt that its the last we will see of then Lilith, as a demon could reform right? And i think Inarius will come back in some sort of fallen Form... if not i think inarius would be really wasted as a character
Was i the only one that didnt understand our characters overwhelming hatred for lilith? Like, I understand that the farmers forced you to drink her blood and stuff but lilith literally told them they had a choice. She didnt force them to murder the priest anymore than she forced them to kill other people. It was the people who decided if they didn't join lilith they would forceably gift them and then kill them.
Our characters are manipulated by Mephisto since the start, in the snow storm. Its pretty nuanced, but if pay attention its obvious. Everything happens in the story according to his plan. And the expansions we will see the fallout of our characters seemingly being played like a fiddle. "Sure neyrelle I trust a teen to run off with a soulstone with a prime evil. Don't forget to write"
For me, the fact that Lilith could even steal Mephisto's essence make no sense. If she can do it, why couldn't Belial and Azmodan do it before D3? They are next in rank after the prime evils. Lilith power level makes no sense. She was able to murder all the lesser demons and angels on Sanctuary in the past, just because she got angry, but then is simply banished by Inarius (just like that). Then in this game she toys with Inarius and wrecks him in one single strike. Inconsistency is the name of the game. She did deserve better. Much better. Over hyped and underused. Her power should have been, deception, schemes and her brilliant plan of building a nephilim army at her side to conquer all existence. Not brute force and stealing the soul of a prime. We had the souls of primes so many times now. That doesn't go well for anyone, never.
@@NyxVellum I wasnt talking about the gameplay of a Diablo game converted to a Darksouls game. I ment something quite close to Darksouls 1 gameplay experience, but instead of Darksouls lore and monsters and BOSSES, its something with dark and "not so easy to judge about" Diablo lore. As it was in Darksouls :D Compare Artorias plot to Inarius plot xD
16:07 Looking at the map it looks like the Fractured peaks were retconned in as what we see on the map looks and is labeled as the Dry Steppes and Hawazer was also retconned in.
I don’t understand why Dolan literally went full stupid and walked up to the pillar covered in damned souls like, “eh. What could go wrong?”. Y’all are in hell of course the damn thing will try to hurt you.
I doubt this is the last we will see of Inarius or Lilith, after all the soulstone was going to be used in the first place because death is rarely permanent in the lore.
I have questions about how angels and demons “die” in the lore. Diablo is one I’ve seen get cut down and gutted repeatedly, but his soul always finds a way to come back. Shouldn’t it be the same way for Lilith? She’s defeated in her home realm of Hell, so I can’t imagine she’s just gone for good. Is it the same way for angels or are they just gone for good when killed?
@@RabidMouser For demons killing them permanently is impossible, in Diablo 4 itself Lorath and Donan both state the only way to really get rid of a demon is to trap them in a soulstone, the prime evils especially will reform after only a few decades upon being killed, as we see with Mephisto who was currently reforming when Nyrelle stabed him in the head. Lilith is probably capable of reforming as well but not being as powerful as her father and uncles it might take her longer. As for angel, and mind you this is only second hand i got from lore videos, they to can reform, but they suffer a kind of death of personality where everytime an angel dies a new one with the same powers and aspect form in heaven, to date only Tyrel has died and came back exactly the same, again it is not a speedy process and will take a few decades. That said, returning to earth is a whole other bag of bones, the prime evils could only get to earth through the combined efforts of the other lesser evils and thats why Lilith needed a key and Andriel needed a host of sorts to be summoned. So when it comes to Inarius its my personal theory he can come back but he is stuck in Hell much like Izual was. Lilith can come back but will also be stuck in hell as the way out is shut and Lorath double locked it, dead bolts and all.
Inarius pierced her womb not her heart, representing his hatred of his children. Lilith pierced his heart, representing her devotion to her children and her relentless pursuit of their protection
She is also a demon who is thirsty for power even her own kind won't trust her a reminder she unnecessary killed innocent humans good priests there are more peaceful ways to help her children but does she actually think they are her children ? Only rathna was her child
@Dantes230 Good sir, the person was just stating what her grand plan was, not taking a stance on wether Lilith was flawed, or justified, wrong, etc. You bringing in outrageous and baseless conclusions based on your own preconceptions of age brackets is immature and idiotic. Childish actions no matter how you look at it, regardless of your generation.
@Dantes230w about the fact that 90%+ of people died 50-70 years ago, after dying years ago due to the Lord's of Hell d2 to d3 and Malthaels reapers. Humanity as a whole just takes Ls all day, except whenever Nephalem show up. Yea crazed cults and weak people couldn't handle the power, but what she was clearly trying to do was like she said, weed out the weak and give her children their powers backs so they can defend themselves. Player character proves not everyone goes crazy. Yes it's a clearly flawed way of thinking... in 21st century Earth. But in "almost extinct humanity on the verge of heaven hell war 8million" sanctuary, hey maybe it was a decent idea. Have no doubt even 10 to 20 fully powered up D3 level Nephelem would end the eternal conflict, and then you get your peaceful world. Shit one took down the Prime Evil, and a Prime Evil infused Archangel. Of course for us things will just work out again, maybe we get d3 strong, who knows. Can't rally have the game where we lose lol, now it's like oh only you can get strong. Idk why, D3 stated Nephelem should be awakening again as the worldstone got deaded by Ty Guy
Lilith deserved WAY better. And we should've been able to choose who we wanted to side with. Inarius is @hole who wanted to kill us from the start. Just like Cordana Felsong in World of Warcraft. We go out of our way to save AU Garona from mind control, (as if Azeroth needs two Garonas) but when Cordana falls under the exact same kind of mind control, we make no effort to save her whatsoever and just straight up kill her. (There are other examples in that game as well, but this is the one that grinds my gears the most.) And then there's Leah, a completely 100% blameless young woman, who is forced against her will to be the vessel for Diablo. And not only are we forced to kill her, but there's not even any kind of implication of her good soul being redeemed or anything. Nope, she's just dead and gone now. And I absolutely despise the assassin for what she apparently did to the sorceress in 2. Makes me want to shove an M60 up that bitch's ass and hold the trigger down until every last bullet is fired. Glad someone said it. The devs really Shafted Lilith. There's literally no reason to believe she has goals other than the betterment of Santuary, and while, sure, the first people she came to decided to become murderers, she only offered freedom from the arrogant lies that Inarius had indoctrinated their literal children with.
Terrible design of not letting us choose a side, they created a story of ass kissing a being that wants to destroy us ,killed even his own son,who would destroy us without remorse if the nice beings from above would ask to, while pushes us to kill the only one who wants to protect her creation. Would have made me so happy if I could have chosen a side and continue with the game from that perspective .
Truthfully she isn't trying to protect humanity. she's trying to kill almost all of humanity so only the strong survive and would be mindless slaves to their own sin. She is essentially trying to create hell on earth rather then protect people.
How it should've ended ; Inarius never reaches Lilith, his " story " stops when he and his legion enters hell, Lilith reachrs Mephisto, but Neyrell manages to slip away with his soul, she's gone before the player reaches him, Lilith is there and the player gets a choice, Join Lilith, or Inarius for a never ending war in Hell where its constant PvP. They wasted two great characters in the campaign.
A lot of my opinion has been stated by other posters so I won't list them all here. One point I will make is that humanity in the game does not need either Lilith or Inarius. We like them are bound to our nature, but or nature is duality not the singular those two had. Inarius, it was quite obvious the mind manipulations he was doing with the church, but Lilith was doing the exact same thing (i.e. what she was preaching in the church in the first cinematic). Both of them were willing to twist humanity in to the service of their nature for their own end goals. I see some people side with Lilith, this is great writing on the part of Blizzard displaying how there are quite a few people that only look to the surface of things and not really look in depth at what they are seeing or are being sold (all of you Lilith lovers are her church of darkness members for reference in what I mean.) Humans in the game have both natures, had Lilith and Inarius not fallen apart it my have worked, but humans were never meant to be one sided that is why even the most evil human can have a moment where they do something that could be considered virtuous and vice versa. The humans in the world of diablo who are at their best, even if they are not aware of it, are those that strike that balance. This is mainly portrayed by the character you play. Overall our end goal is survival, for ourself and the general whole, and we are willing to do whatever it takes to do that. Be it a righteous or evil act, those that shackle themselves to one side or the other in the end always fail in the end (i.e. shoving the crystals in people to contain demons). IMO I think that is why the characters we play, their nephalim powers are able to manifest, because we stay true to our nature as humans.
Well, not really. One of the most important themes about Diablo is free will. You might think Lilith wants to "save" Sanctuary and probably from her twisted perspective is true, but that is not the point, the important thing is no matter what, she is going to impose her will to humans, by any means, "for their own good". Inarius and Lilith and both side of the same coin, they want to USE, for different reasons and goals but with the same meaning. This can be seen many times, when both of them are fully convinced that they are fully right, one can murder his own children to get redemption but Lilith can do it so thinking is necesary. The whole point is none of both is able to free their creation, even if that means a sacrifice for themselves or accepting humans decisions can be a mistake in the long road. When Lilith is going to die she can't understand why "her children" don't fully "love" her like she wants, she is even sad/angry because she is unable to accept that humans can decide something that might be even their own doom, the exact opposite with Lorath and Neyrelle; Lorath is fully convinced (from his perspective, knowledge and experience that Neyrelle is going to fail and that can lead into a worse scenario por Sanctuary and humans but he accepts Neyrelle decission. Parents (Gods) can really be cruel thinking they are helping their children or trying to protect them from they own safety, denying them the option to fail, to learn and to decide.
Here's the thing: all demons eventually reform from the void/ abyss, so Lilith may return. For angels on the other end, they don't come back, at least not as the same individual. I'm not sad about that tbh lol
I don’t know how I feel about the ending of Diablo iv it looked amazing but I still feel like Lilith was made more like a tragic figure instead of the demon we all know her to be
it's 2023, you cant make a woman a pure badguy :D jokes aside, we might see with further seasons where this all leads and at the end of d4 we'll be like "yep, she was right, we should've tip the scale in the eternal conflict in our favor" and ultimatly we can never be sure if lilith was using excuses to get to the power of her father or if she truly wished for the success of her once-nephalem humans.
My life for Sylvanas and Lilith. They got played bad, their end should have been better. Only when Women can be villians again, good characters might emerge … again …
@MorgorDre lilith can't stay dead either she's a demon she will be reborn tho it will take a shit load of time and her character did end well in the story. Tho I do wish we could have maybe had to option to pick sides it would have given the pvp a little more meaning. Like those on the side of inarius vs those on the side of lilith idk just a thought lol
UA-cam has been picky with Diablo videos in the community in terms of blood. So I decided to blur the part where Inarius impales the demon through the eye with a horn. Better safe than sorry kind of thing. Thanks for watching the video and hanging out with me! 😊
@@NyxVellum i understand that. Nothing surprises me with YT anymore. Yesterday i found out the original video of "onyxia wipe animation" was taken down after a decade or so and had to be censored. Thank you for making such videos. Its nice to watch them now with the launch of D4
we should have sided with Lilith. She was right, and Neyrelle is Dead. She is probably the new Maphisto. This isnt the first time that a prime evil has been carried off in a soul stone by a wanderer. It is not a matter of If, but When Neyrelle falls to darkness. I think Inarius deserved everything Lilith did to him and then some, for murdering their son, and sending her to rot alone in the void. She's right, they used their free will and made a choice and the high heavens were never going to forgive him for that. We effed up, and who knows, maybe we will be the way Lilith returns to the world. No telling. I do think we should have taken her hand and fought the hells for Sanctuary. Blizzard has a bad habit of doing this with their female characters, where they are accused of a bunch of things they did not do and would not go on to do, but we fight them over it anyways. Notoriously it is Sylvanas who is on that alter of Sacrifice, Lilith is new to it, but same thing different day. No Choice but to fight against her, railroaded into fighting a character we would rather follow. I am over it. I enjoyed watching her get her revenge for her son, but other than that, ehh. The ending was lack luster, our character does not even know what was said by Neyrelle and we kill the guy who saves our life in the beginning for laughs. I Liked most of it, save the end, and sick of being railroaded down the wrong side. I will stop ranting. kool vid thanks for putting it up.
Still no info on the Merchant... 😢 12039 Stone of Jordan sold to Merchant. 12040 Stone of Jordan sold to Merchant. 12041 Stone of Jordan sold to Merchant. .... Diablo Walks the Earth...
Lilith is the daughter of Hatred, Mephisto, and to believe that she was the "good girl" in the story is naive. She, like Inarius, was bound by her fate and so she could never escape own inevitable nature. Furthermore the illusion of "freedom" that Lilith was offering was, ironically, bound by a future of unrelenting chaos. A chaos that saw her worshipers descend down into blood rituals and magics, human sacrifice, cannibalism along with summoning and cavorting with demons. In the end, her plan would of just tilted humanity closer toward the path of being pawns of the Prime Evils, specifically Mephisto, and siding with Hell. Furthermore, her seducing of Inarus was all part of a greater plan, no doubt hatched by one or all of the Prime Evils, to tilt the stalemate in the war fought between Heaven and Hell. By seducing Inarus and bringing him low into sin she was able to create beings, and a subsequent pocket reality, that would have the capacity to break the aforementioned stalemate if the Prime Evils could gain control of it. The only flaw with this plan of course that such an offspring between an Angel and Demon granted said offspring free will and thus humanity could not be directly controlled by either side.
lol a prime demon like Litlith can’t really die , hence why they get thrown into vessels / soul stones etc , she will be back , I do think it would of been quite the twist if you could choose to side with her or she actually wins and continues on with her plan then leads into the expansion with the return of Meph, would of created quite the war and divide , and tbh it would of been a nice change of pain then create a cool interesting anti hero and kill it off
im kind of confused about your narrative nyx, you seem to say she deserves and she's a savior better in this video, but in the elias video you say that she's evil and has her own agenda.... which side are you on exactly?
Anyone else think Inarius will be Lucifer? Or a version if him? The ringing message og "Lilith saying "you belong in hell" as she rips his wings from him, and the floor and hands consuming him feel to specific. We have only fought prime evils bit never a luckier, or fallen angel. And I thing Inarius is exactly that. He is Hatred, and Lilith did pierce his heart.
she was literally tryna help humans return back to becoming nephlem. Immortal super humans which was the original state that humans were supposed to be. But nope, Blizzard had to kill her when she was tryna help us revert back to our original state. Granted she had ulterior motifs but still.
im gutted lilith and inarius are dead. i think those two and their story is the best in the universe, particularly lilith. such a complex character, its a shame if they are gone for good
in reality, You cannot truly kill EVIL, you can only contain it. Every time an entity is destroyed, It takes millennia for it soul to regenerate. I believe Lilith would resurrect.
Sanctuary was fucked the minute Nephalem were born. Every single one of them more powerful than their own parents? Powerful enough to kill Prime Evils, Angiris council angels? Would they really listen to their parents? The best hope they had was Inarius lowering their power via the world stone and somehow hiding that in another pocket dimension so it couldn’t be messed with
Except for Donans death, I was satisfied how Diablo 4 ended with Lilith and inarius, both flawed characters, who thoat that there way was the right path and yet, both wore wrong. I really don’t get the Lilith fanboys here, I mean she murdered by herself or by command half of sanctuary, which tell us that she doesent understand her children or their ways, or what it is to be human
Can’t wait for a crusader class. Both me and my dad are starting to get bored of Diablo already. And people are slamming blizzard over the recent patch notes. Let’s hope the game continues to be fun
I dont understand… she was his wife, he vowed not to kill her so he banished her twice into the void before. How can he kill her now? What changed him? His love is no more? Also, did lilith actually have good intention for humanity? Did she truly want to stand up for them when the real battle looming in the future against both forces of angels and demons? We are after all her children. Were we all misled by Inarius and by the carnal method of her leadership?
My feelings towards.the.story: I like stories where the outcome doesnt correlate to the intentions of the characters. On the other hand: I did not want to stop Lilith after Rathmas Tomb. Ok people will in the process, but empowering most humans seems to be the only way to stop the eternal meddling of heaven and hell.
That's fair enough. I approached this script differently to my usual videos and I don't believe the title matches what I've produced in the end. I'll be changing the name and thumbnail of the video in the next 24 hours.
Just a few quick things I want to touch on:
(Apparently I don't say it enough or something along those lines)
Enjoy the video ♥
Great vid man! Just recently found your channel and am loving it so far!
I always assumed it to be pronounced anjeris to reflect the pronunciation of angel since the council is made up of angels.
@@axemurdrer13 That makes sense to me. I'll make sure I pronounce it correctly next time 😃
regarding #1.. generally i would've loved to have like 1-2 more cinematics in the campaign, but maybe i'm a bit spoiled by diablo3, which had quite a few cinematics. since my first real diablo was diablo3, i would loved a longer fight as well, but i do think that they wanted to go back to d2/d1 aesthethics and let's be honest, those d3 sequences and fights sure had some anime-vibes going on.
Hi Nyx from my memories. The angiris council is mentioned in the cinematic movie you can confirm there, I believe it's pronounced like An J iris.
As long as you're worried about pronunciation, it's RaTHma, th like "the".
Donan dying to a wall is the most ridiculous thing i seen.
Yeah that was a weird moment...
I don't know why they felt the need to kill him that way, like they are in hell. So many demons he could've died to yet nah, let's kill him with this dumbass pillar that he stupidly walks towards for no reason
The Demon that killed his kid should have killed him. Keeps the grimdark going.
Idk maybe better ways I can think of to kill him off
For real! I was like… this is how he dies, really?
Lilith and Inarius needed each other to be good for sanctuary. the chaos lilith brought needed to be tempered by the order of Inarius but they were too blind to see that.both doing what they thought was best. only rathma truly new what was needed and that is balance.
The game shows both what happens when the order of Inarius is left unchecked (killing and torture of anyone who is considered a witch or who opposes the church) and the unbridled chaos that Lilith brought (the opening scene with the villagers).
Lilith and Inarius working together was probably the best shot the humans had at ending the Eternal Conflict.
Well said! Balance is always the answer, for extremes always mark the downfall whatever the direction is.
Rathma likes this comment.
The concept of "let's talk it out" was in its infancy at that time.
I like this take.
Yet . . . That how Khalim get kill by the other Zakarum Council priests . . .
This aged well
"A spear of Light piercing Hatred's heart."
I think I just figured it out.
Elias was obsessed with the prophecy that’s reason he summmoned back Lilith
Should’ve give us a choice to accept or reject her towards the end with the boss changing
Free will of choice is an illusion
@@BLOODKINGbro MMMM point taken
@@BLOODKINGbroefinitely is when she was willing to trap your mind in the sightless eye for saying no to her, despite her telling you she gave you free choice. If this was reality all the Lilith simps would end up like that guy getting eaten alive by the 3 wolves in act 3.
That would have been incredible.
I literally could not figure out why Lilith was the antagonist here when literally everyone else was so much worse.
Really?
yes
I think Lilith really did love Inarius too; after she killed him, she became weaker, maybe because she felt sad. Her face shows sadness after hearing Inarius's answer to killing their son. It was like, "I love you, but you've lost it, so I must put you down regretfully."
The way she confronts Inarius about killing Rathma *Chef's Kiss*
Or maybe she was weaker cause he plunged a broken spear through her gut.
@@demonichunter7925 I agree with you on that bro.
Plenty of Inarius to come. If you think he's gone. Read the story of izual. And know Inarius will be back as a demon
I just wanna say, I really appreciate your pacing and diction in your videos.
It's very easy to follow even without captions on.
Both in the candid bits and the parts you scripted.
Thank you! I try to keep it chill. :)
I still want a Inarius redemption.
Me too, the character was killed off too quickly and too easily. The writers didn’t do justice to him at all…
Me three.
Thank you!

"A spear of light peirces hatreds heart and the one who was bound in chains is set free." Thanks to nyrelle
Letting Prva go was a really bad idea. We'll have to deal with her later. I'm guessing that will come during the expansions at some point.
THE best Diablo lore on UA-cam. Well done Nyx. Keep it up Bro.
DUDE, I LOVE those little human real life clips you put inside these videos! They are Hilarious! Your the only one that does it.
I'm glad you like them. I try and put little surprises for the people watching the videos.
The way the story was presented i definitely felt like im on the wrong side of history. Very good writing
nope you were not, Inarius was Lilith's balance.
@@NyxVellum awww thank you for your amazing work! ❤️
"Let the weak fend for themselves"
More then enough for me to show Lilith wasn't this great benevolent loving mother that she wanted us to think. Still wonder if she wasn't entirely honest about the Heavens when talking to Inarius before his "death(Assuming that holds).
@Dantes230 ok boomer.
@Dantes230 Sit down before you fall down, old timer.
4.23k in a few weeks, amazing dude! Keep the lore coming!
Thank you very much. It means a lot to me.
Why/how would Inarius get his wings if the High Heavens no longer acknowledges him? I would have thought one of the first things that happen to angels that are forsaken by the High Heavens would be the taking of their wings thus forcing them to become mortal or at least not an angel anymore
If you remember D2, Izual kept his wings after being tortured and turned in Hell.
my ending was different, because lilith and I got married and started a new line of nephalim. we agreed the childen will stay with me for the week and she gets them every other weekend
I almost wish there was a choice for the player to make. Fight or join Lilith.
I would have joined her.
Dlc would be tough with a choice that huge
It would have been so cool.
@@DrClawizdeadhumans are Nephelim though
Great question. I believe it's because he HAS to grant you passage, otherwise it doesn't work. So she needeed him alive and on her side.
Great video keep them coming .
Thanks, will do!
How do you end an eternal conflict in Diablo? You stop playing the game. But, man, these cinematic look amazing! Blizzard level cinematic is the best.
It’s very similar to the Witch Queen ending in Destiny 2. We kill the “mommy” of the story while being the hero of the story, we kill her and now we have to fight the next big baddy.
Idk how Lilith was the villain here. I was rooting for her the whole game even though I knew she was bound to lose
What about Yorin?
@@NyxVellum I think he was jus sadly the perfect currency to get Lilith closest to victory. At the end of the day she was trying to save sanctuary, while Inarius, well....
Really if Lilith did create the Blood Knights in Diablo Immortal, it could stand to reason that her warriors may just avenge her and work towards her plan again.
Being a child of a Prime evil will she just not return eventually as they always do? Plenty of demons have returned again and again
Potentially
Wasn't Lilith also killed in D2? If that's the case it is probable that she returns. But it takes time (as we see with Mephisto's rebirth), time which mephisto shall use wisely.
@@tr3yize she never appeared in D2, she was sealed away by Inarius roughly a thousand years ago.
@@evanmcc99 you're right I was thinking of the event she appears in on D2. Forgot it did not effect lore.
Another amazing 👏 video my friend.
DLC = us working to resurrect Lilith to fight off Mephisto because we done fucked up.
I love your videos man! God bless!
Lol you can hear it in game how they pronounce Iosef. Yoh-sef.
Of course Mephisto wanted Neyrelle to travel by herself. Less interference from his manipulation.

A fight with Inarius would be fun.
Great video. Subscribed
I really hope they make it so Inarius returns as Lucifer.
It would be epic.
Thank you for the great writeup. Your take would have been exciting to see play out. Especially the part about the Nephalem army.
So if Inarius and Lilith are dead does that mean that they will be reborn?
I thought that is what happens to angels and demons when they die?
Good ol Inarius. Living in the past instead of moving on.
He should have practiced a little mindfulness meditation.
The CC for this video is AMAZING 😭

Imagine a Darksoul 1 type of Diablo game. Especially with all the dramatic hidden lore.
That would be a dream! Quite tough to make it feel right though, concidering how fast the combat in Diablo is.
As it was in Darksouls :D
Compare Artorias plot to Inarius plot xD
Is Lilith definitely dead? Or can she regenerate like her father?
Because then we could use her or ask for advice at least
She will be back.
Inarius will be back. Lilith will be back. Diablo will be back

Inarius pierced her womb not her heart, representing his hatred of his children. Lilith pierced his heart, representing her devotion to her children and her relentless pursuit of their protection
Lilith: "You can't defeat the prime evils."
Diablo 2: *Heros pwnd Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal as if they were pests.*
Not enough to make us hate her unlike Inarius who was shown as a big A hole.. She really deserved better
The subtitles really don’t like Inarius’ name lmao
Really don't think Inarius is done. The theory of him coming back as a demon version makes sense.
Personally I sided with lilith the entire story. So I wasn't a fan of the campaign.
Lilith wanna end the conflict by devouring all the Lord's from Hell and awaken her children from the corrupted influence's seed.
Nom nom nom
I agree she deserved better. But I have a foreboding feeling that her being gone is going to create something massively bad in the future
I hope Lilith get's a comeback and we team up with her
I'd join Lilith
Lilith deserved WAY better. And we should've been able to choose who we wanted to side with. Inarius is @hole who wanted to kill us from the start. Lilith fought for us, was banished for defending us, and you FORCE us to kill her?!?! BLIZZARD THIS MUST BE RECTIFIED. I WANT TO BE WITH/FOR LILITH. #TEAM LILITH!!! Can I get a wht wht!
Just like Cordana Felsong in World of Warcraft. We go out of our way to save AU Garona from mind control, (as if Azeroth needs two Garonas) but when Cordana falls under the exact same kind of mind control, we make no effort to save her whatsoever and just straight up kill her. (There are other examples in that game as well, but this is the one that grinds my gears the most.)
And then there's Leah, a completely 100% blameless young woman, who is forced against her will to be the vessel for Diablo.
I liked the sorceress, you FUCKING BITCH!

I’ve seriously been debating on getting Diablo 4, should I?
Glad someone said it. The devs really Shafted Lilith. There's literally no reason to believe she has goals other than the betterment of Santuary, and while, sure, the first people she came to decided to become murderers, she only offered freedom from the arrogant lies that Inarius had indoctrinated their literal children with.
Is the wanderer in Diablo IV a nephalem or just a regular human?
It's not clear. Concidering we are able to defeat Prime and Lesser Evils, I would say Nephalem in some form.
Maybe we will be allowed to choose sides at a later date? A bit like Destiny clans, we can choose a path or something?
@@evanmcc99 în comparison to anyone/anything else which see us as abominations and needs to be destroyed.
They wasted two great characters in the campaign.
she's literally the queen succubus, she just gets off on manipulation and curruption, she'a loving all of this
A lot of my opinion has been stated by other posters so I won't list them all here. I see some people side with Lilith, this is great writing on the part of Blizzard displaying how there are quite a few people that only look to the surface of things and not really look in depth at what they are seeing or are being sold (all of you Lilith lovers are her church of darkness members for reference in what I mean.)
Humans in the game have both natures, had Lilith and Inarius not fallen apart it my have worked, but humans were never meant to be one sided that is why even the most evil human can have a moment where they do something that could be considered virtuous and vice versa.
@schippes24 she was never a true bad guy in lore so 🤷
She is meant to be a tragic figure in lore since diablo 3 and the lore she has been that way
My life for Sylvanas and Lilith.
Why blur the demons face from the cinematic?
UA-cam has been picky with Diablo videos in the community in terms of blood. So I decided to blur the part where Inarius impales the demon through the eye with a horn. Better safe than sorry kind of thing. Thanks for watching the video and hanging out with me! 😊

we should have sided with Lilith.

When did Inarius escape his chains?
I thought he was bound in the Hells with his wings ripped off and that’s what the Butcher was modelled after.
lol a prime demon like Litlith can’t really die , hence why they get thrown into vessels / soul stones etc , she will be back , I do think it would of been quite the twist if you could choose to side with her or she actually wins and continues on with her plan then leads into the expansion with the return of Meph, would of created quite the war and divide , and tbh it would of been a nice change of pain then create a cool interesting anti hero and kill it off
im kind of confused about your narrative nyx, you seem to say she deserves and she's a savior better in this video, but in the elias video you say that she's evil and has her own agenda.... which side are you on exactly?
Anyone else think Inarius will be Lucifer? Or a version if him? The ringing message og "Lilith saying "you belong in hell" as she rips his wings from him, and the floor and hands consuming him feel to specific. We have only fought prime evils bit never a luckier, or fallen angel. And I thing Inarius is exactly that. He is Hatred, and Lilith did pierce his heart.
Misspelling, my apologies. I think Inarius isn't over. I think he will come back again in a further extension of the story.
the road to hell are paved with good intentions. and we got lots of good intentions.
Ah yes, bringing the greater evil into Sanctuary MUST be the lesser of two weevils
Hated how they treatet some of the less evil as common foot soilders…
she was literally tryna help humans return back to becoming nephlem.
My feelings towards.the.story:
I like stories where the outcome doesnt correlate to the intentions of the characters. On the other hand: I did not want to stop Lilith after Rathmas Tomb. Ok people will in the process, but empowering most humans seems to be the only way to stop the eternal meddling of heaven and hell.
This is a summary. It doesn't offer any explanations.
That's fair enough. I approached this script differently to my usual videos and I don't believe the title matches what I've produced in the end. I'll be changing the name and thumbnail of the video in the next 24 hours.
I can't decide whom i hate more - Prava or Neyrelle?
First cain dies to butterfly, donan dies to wall. And Lilith doesn't get an ending she deserves.
I still wish that the mc could have a choice to join Lilith's cause or continue with the story, so we could have a different ending
