Paystreak, My compliments to you. This is arguably the most insightful, intelligent commentary you have ever posted. It should be a must view for every UA-camr who thinks you can evaluate a detector in a short amount of time. All of the detecting companies are falling victim to this and to be fair, they bear some responsibility for creating the monster so to speak. When you give UA-camrs units to beta test you are asking for trouble because most are more concerned with views and subscribers than honesty. I started detecting in 1972. The concept of "learning your machine" has almost vanished. Everything now is impulse based. My goodness, if the Etrac, which in its day was the best deep silver finder ever made, was released now it would have been destroyed by UA-camrs for its iron falsing. Of course multi-frequency does that inherently. But you can tell the difference by the nulls and the false tones. I'm sure after time the Deus II update will demonstrate the same tendency. So not to drone on to long, let me conclude by saying you are obviously a darn good, experienced hunter. Thank you for posting your views and comments. Bill
Jeremy, awesome video and spelled out very well some important tips. I really respect your thoughts and insights into the deus2. I tried ver 1.0 first time today. On an earlier video you spoke about lowering the audio response down low and turning up the iron volume. Today I used the sensitive FT as my base and tweaked it to my conditions and incorporated your advice on those two settings and keeping silencer up to 2 or 3. I was in high square tones. I found 2 pieces of silver, a ring with a a stone I think is jade and a broach with turquoise gem. I dug my share of pull tabs and other junk but didn’t dig one piece of iron and don’t believe I had any falsing I heard the iron but it wasn’t what I would call heavy iron. Keep up the great videos, I really enjoy them and learn a lot from you!
Paystreak, thanks for being honest, unbiased, non-critical of others, humble, open minded, hardworking and for sharing your knowledge and experience with us. It's refreshing to see your many videos, which are insightful and helpful.
I really enjoy this video! I can run sensitive ft xy screen, "my main go to" but there's times I have better luck on deus mono, or deep hc. I can swing over a place, and go at different angles and sometimes get different readings, the detector is trying to feed the best info it can to the mind of the user, and the other 50% is the user understanding what the detector is telling you and for you to try and interpret. I do like Gary's sonar as far as nit picking between targets, but many terrains and soils are different. Wv has clay, hot rocks, coke, coal, sand, and top soil, and sand stone. It's all a little different. Thank you for this video! Being straight and honest too! - Chad. Blue Creek Detectors.
Learning the what, why and how of settings is so much more valuable than slapping on settings that may have been configured for someone else’s completely different type of terrain. A good example, my beaches are all vastly different - some have black sand, some have literal chunks of iron, some clean as a whistle but high salinity so it’s important to know how to tweak my machines on the fly if needs be. Updating the Deus II to 1.0 today, factory resetting so my current programs don’t mess it up and am looking forward to starting fresh with the new configurations. Happy hunting my friend 😄
Well said, sir!!! Discovered your channel a couple months ago, and I’ve really been enjoying it especially your real time digs are fun to watch when I can’t get out myself. It’s also refreshing to enjoy a Metal Detecting channel from someone who isn’t condescending, shouting their credentials… self proclaimed gurus seeking UA-cam fame, come on man it’s Metal Detecting let’s enjoy this awesome hobby😂 Thanks for what you do. Keep up the great work.
Very well said Andrew!! Welcome aboard!! I am so glad I can take you along with me on my adventures. Every day is a new learning experience for me. Thank you!!
Great video‼️ agree 1000%. Nobody has a special program. There is only simple different adjustments to xp’s stock programs. Or tweaking the stock programs. Some people overthink the adjustments and think it’s too much to handle. But it’s not at all. On your next signal just go through programs and then go through adjustments. Play around with it. You can’t mess up. If u get too much going on. Simply turn it off and on again. Then all back to sleep original. The more you hunt the more things click. D2 is still awesome. They will get it worked out. IMO xp made way way too many changes in v1.0. Silencer was fine. So they changed it. 👎🏻. Iron volume was fine. They changed it. And so on. The main objective was to correct full tones but that didn’t happen. Got worse. Xp. Im here for a xp job if u need me. I’ve been a troubleshooter for 26 years. Lol. But seriously.
Excellent vid man. I do save programs to my personal default. Then when I go out there are less perameters to change. Thanks for sharing your wisdom...
I have never used a program published on "the web". Apparently you and I both have a background in engineering and know that learning our tools is the best way to learn how to be better. I'm pretty happy with the v1.0 now because I know that I need to give it time and not tweak stuff over and over during one or three or ten or one hundred days. We take the data we see and adjust as we see fit.
Metal detecting is fun because I do not have anyone telling me how to do it. I am just the average Joe. Some days we are lucky to find anything to tell you the truth!!
I agree. My buddy and i hunt together, he likes to set his machine up the way he likes it. I set mine up the way i like it. But at the end of the day, we are usually consistent with each other's finds. Like you said, it's what works for you. I took your advice on swing speed and nails on a site last weekend. We only dug about 10 nails each. But that's not bad for digging 2 or 300 plugs.
It was so much more simplistic back in the early 2000’s when the first Full Band Spectrum Minelab units were available….there really wasn’t much to tweak on the machine like the multi-freq machines of today.…it was full band spectrum (simultaneous multi freq) all the time….and those machines could find the deep, desirable targets in very trashy, turn of the century parks in my areas…less tweaking allowed more time to actually fine tune ones ears and swing speed to the ground conditions to find targets in trash that only a handful of treasure hunters could master and find…..it did require lots of hours of hunting with the basic settings to become very proficient ….the only settings I tweaked on my Explorer was my noise cancel, and sometimes sensitivity a few ticks up/down from my norm….it was true hunting bliss!! I became so confident with my machine that I could count the number of hunts a year on my one hand that I didn’t find an old coin (silver, wheats, etc), and I averaged 3-4 hunts a week.
Old coins were plentiful back then and way way way less trash. Those detectors did good for those times before 5G cell towers and everything emits a wireless transmissions these days. Parts cost a fortune for those old detectors now too.
99% clicked on here for your magic program lol, very well said, love watching your content as it’s still learning as you aways give your Honest opinion on each video and your thoughts about your findings by testing testing testing, As I said before we in the Uk can not hunt parks and it’s pasture, plough and beaches mainly, the manuals give the basics and you give use logic, 😊😊😎😎
Im using the d2 with the 11 coil runnin deep hc v1.1 dry dirt and was hitting 10" plus the predetor shovel is the way to go for sure, anything less than 8" are just clads, trying to go for the deep stuff, nothing to be proud of yet.
Can honestly say that the knowledge I've gained from your videos over the years is priceless to me . Excuse the pun but You hit the nail on the head as always . We've all seen the bench test endless vids on the tube / planted coin vids etc , yes they have some merit but your raw digging vids are the proof in the pudding , for me the best person to ask for advice is the man doing the job every day , that's yourself , as my wife always says , " never trust a skinny chef " Good luck out there .
Never trust a skinny chef!! That's hilarious. About 25 years ago I knew and old timer metal detectorist and he told me " if you want to learn fast about metal detecting, take advice or follow the guys with dirt under their fingernails, never trust the detectorists with clean clothes or detect in thongs" ---remember thongs were footwear back then, not swimwear.
Great video! I upgraded to 1.0 and struggled a bit with it at first, but I'm now starting get dialed in on the settings. I always try new configurations to see how they work in the environment that I'm hunting in. One of the big mistakes that I made when I first upgraded to V1 is that I had inadvertently set the Audio Response much too high so of course I was getting all of this iron falsing, terrible EMI and non-stop racket. I think the best thing about the D2 is having full control of most of the settings so you can suit the detector to the environment. Of course it's very easy to get your configuration completely wrong as well, but I view it as part of the fun - and it's learning experience as well...
Jeremy, you did a good job of not calling those channels and forums out. However, we know exactly what you mean and agree fully with everything you just said...It's like, this version isn't "perfect " so I'm going back to the old " un perfect " version and master that.
In my test garden which is very iron and rust laden soil the new update V1.0 has improved the signals quite a bit. Probably going 2 inches deeper with a few tweaks and using the audio filter and adjusting reactivity higher. I am off to a Weekend Rally on pasture in a really good area so will see how it works this weekend.! Hopefully as good as my Nox 800 now on land but lighter weight! There is no magic program agreed! I adjust for conditions by burying test targets for each time I go out!

I agree with you 100% I have not had the problems that people have been talking about. I’m on version 1.0 I have always used a high iron volume up and I have maybe only four hours or five hours on version 1.0 but I have found things I have missed And I didn’t dig any nails and these are old iron infested home sites.
I do not dig nails either. I only had one version of the D2 that was too hot on nails. It takes time to learn new versions. This version has been very well tested.

Default programs should work when selected with fine tuning as needed. The problem with V1.00 is the default programs work poorly and require setting changes in order to work properly.
The default programs have always not worked well compared to a tuned program( on all versions of D2). I never use a default program to hunt with. On a second note, I do not have custom programs saved on the Deus 2. I go to a preset program and tune it from there.
Speaking of the ground stabilizer.....that's the one thing I still haven't understood. I've read the manual a few times for it, but just don't understand 🤔 Can someone please put that in simple terms please? Just updated to v1.1 today. Super stoked to run this beast in a few!!! 😎 😁❤

i remember for 6 months you didnt use the Deus 2, because of some reason. you had issues, then you went back to it. nothing changed software wise during that time., ive owned the D2 since it came out. didnt dig any nails in any version, im a tweeker, always adjusting, to what the site is telling me. this version to not dig nails and not miss a lot of good targets is impossible, you say you went the other day and dug no nails....so?,... what did you miss?....thats my point. there is a problem....XP know this, now at least. You are not wrong about what you say about dialing in, thats correct, but you dial out the nails in current version, you are crippling the machine....sure youll find stuff....they all find stuff.
I did not use the D2 last summer because the ground was hard as concrete. I was forced to use different detectors in the playgrounds The D2 does not perform well in the playgrounds. I dug many many non ferrous targets out of a bed of square nails with v1.0 ...did not dig one nail!!.
that's right you will find stuff, lol, I said that, i agree...what you are doing is you tuned it avoid nails, like I also said, when you do that....in 1.00 you lose good targets, that doesn't mean you lose ALL good targets. that's why you didn't dig one nail.
We miss targets with all detectors every hunt. That is why we can always go back to the same exact spot and find more targets. I do not worry about missing targets...I have more chances in the future to find those targets once I learn more about the detector or site.

I went back to .71, Used relic mode and just changed the notch 00 to 35 and upped the reactivity to 2.5 and got some rings at my beach easey Peasey. magic program activated 😂
how do you cut your beard, we need a tutorial!
My roommate does that for me.
i remember for 6 months you didnt use the Deus 2, because of some reason. you had issues, then you went back to it. nothing changed software wise during that time., ive owned the D2 since it came out. didnt dig any nails in any version, im a tweeker, always adjusting, to what the site is telling me. this version to not dig nails and not miss a lot of good targets is impossible, you say you went the other day and dug no nails....so?,... what did you miss?....thats my point. there is a problem....XP know this, now at least.
